Crazy Royal Love #1

Royally Crushed

Rate this book
One pampered princess desperate to escape the confines of royal life. One rugged outdoorsman whose survival TV show ratings are in the toilet. What happens when you drop them into the jungle together with only each other to rely on?

Being a princess isn’t the fairytale you think it is.

It’s the same five conversations over the same scones and tea every damn day until you die. It’s never having a minute without someone watching you and micro-managing your every move.

And now that I’m twenty-nine, it’s gotten so much worse because my handlers are currently seeking a suitable (read: boring, uptight, and likely horrible in bed) husband for me.

Apparently I must be married before I turn thirty and my royal eggs turn to dust.

I need out now or I am going. To. Lose. It.

So naturally, I sneak off to the jungle to co-host a new nature docu-series starring Will Banks (a.k.a. McHotty of the Wilderness).

Turns out this was a terrible idea because we full-on hate each other from the moment the helicopter drops us off.

Luckily, we’re stuck out here alone together for the next two very long weeks. I’d give anything for a scone and some polite chitchat right about now.

Although, Will is rather easy on the eyes. Especially when he takes his shirt off to get washed up. And all that loathing seems to be building a lusty tension between us that won’t be denied.

Even though we most definitely should deny the lustiness. Forever.

Because … I hate him.

Don’t I?

Royally Crushed is a wildly funny, opposites-attract, hate-at-first-sight romantic comedy adventure filled with loads of witty banter, sexual tension so high it could make even the most proper of princesses snap, and enough swoon-worthy moments that you should probably get yourself a fainting pillow.

Fun, Fun

“Royally Crushed” is a fun filled romp about two opposite people, a princess and an outdoorsman.

The plot moves quickly. Although it is a bit predictable, it is still enjoyable.

I recommend.

Mediocre royal romance. I was going to give it a 2.5 and round it to 3 stars but I don't think it is worth 3 stars.

The characters are surface-level and don't have much development. The romance is basic and I am left wondering HOW these two characters ended up liking each other.. (Although I am pretty sure this is a case of "I am starved of human touch and now that I have it I am convinced it is love.") That being said, I borrowed the entire series in audiobooks and I'm not wasting them, so I will be reading the rest of the series. :) I am a genius.

I might write a rant, depending on the rest of the series.

edit: I am not an idiot, and after listening to 3% of the next book I have given up on my aspirations to read the rest of the series.

I got an early birthday present from one of my fave writers when she released ROYALLY CRUSHED, which is the first book in her new Crazy Royal Love series. I really can’t gush enough about this book and think it might be my new favorite of hers.

If you loved the classic ‘80s film, Romancing the Stone, this book is definitely for you! It tells the story of Princess Arabella of Avonia who decides to flout royal rules and do a reality show (excuse me, docu-series) that plops her down in the middle of a jungle with professional adventurer Will Banks.

To say that Will is not thrilled to be saddled with a blue blood who’s never roughed it a day in her life is an understatement. What follows is both a battle of wills and a battle against nature as the pair learns they’ll need each other if they want to reach the finish line and achieve their goals. I adored this couple, both separately and together, and found their journey epic, entertaining, and swoonily romantic. I’m just sorry that The Wild World isn’t a real show because I would binge-watch the heck out of it!

I can't truly say I read it because I found myself skimming through it. It's easy, funny, and fast-paced. But I felt like the author was just telling instead of showing, which made it forgettable, in my eyes at least. I might continue with the second and third installment out of sheer interest for the story. I've read far more better books to settle for this.

This book started out quite fun and there isn't anything quite like it. Will and Princess Arabella get pair up as the host of a survival show where they need to survive for 10 days in the wilderness and if they back out early , they will lose the bonus. At first , there is an enemy vibe going on because Will see Arabella as someone who would only get him down. But then they fell in love.

The middle and the end is honestly quite boring as there wasn't much going on , just two of them bickering in the wild .

Maybe I will try this in print some time because I don’t know that there’s anything wrong with the book itself. But the audio? Ugh! First chapter, narrated by the female reader— great. I’m excited and looking forward to listening to the book. Chapter two starts with the male reader and I just can’t. He’s THAT awful. I can’t even make it through the chapter. So bummed. I honestly don’t understand how this guy got the job.

As far as I am aware, I have not read anything by Melanie Summers, I could be wrong, but I must say I was not disappointed by this book.

Reality Tv meets the Royal family ... LITERALLY
I enjoyed the idea of the princess metaphorically and physically saving herself while the big grizzly man needed a hand.

Princess Arabella is bored with her mundane life as a princess and is ready for something more.

Will is ready for his next adventure in nature even if he is unsure as to what the show executives have up their sleeves.

When Arabella decides to host the new adventure show with Will, they have more chemistry than they know what to do with, even though they hate each other. Will believes Arabella is a spoiled princess who doesn't stand a chance, and Arabella believes Will is a pompous know-it-all who is exaggerating every move they make.

I thought this book was funny and intriguing. We got to see how two people from different economic backgrounds could come together and survive the jungle despite the many obstacles in their journey.

The one thing I do question is if they are really in love or if the bond of trauma is what brings them together. While they do share secrets and get to know each other better, do they really know each other well enough to be "in love?

Crazy Royal Love series is the baby of Crown Jewel series & Paradise Bay series. A crossover you didn't know you needed until you got one!
I CANNOT tell you ENOUGH how Hilarious, Romantic & Adventurous this was!
What happens when a Sassy Princess who's out to prove her worth & a Hunky Adventurer who's determined to bring the ratings of the show up are teamed u together? Its pure hate & loathe at first sight.

I simply loved Arabella. She's smart, funny, sarcastic & a lovely human being. The way she handles herself inside & outside the Royal decorum screams Poise & Brilliance ( except for the not-so-smooth breakdown she had in the middle of the forest). The instant decision of going on a reality tv was so out of her character & comfort zone, yet she chose do it.
The scene where she shows up in shorts(finally breaking the royal dresscode)in jungle but is made to made a hideous jumpsuit still cracks me up till date.

Will, Oh dreamy Will. Drop dead gorgeous, snarky, rugged outdoorman with every bit of warrior & fighter cell in his body, is the most strongest person I've ever met ( except as you read along, you realize what a softie he is). The self-made, take-no-shit man who couldn't NOT pout when he was compared to Bear Grylls. Apart from being a pain in the ass, he's an amazing brother who constantly tries to do right by the show so that he could buy the dream boat for his brother.

And Boy! What Sparkling & Electrifying Chemistry these two have. I loved every second of their adventure. Their constant bickering, nagging, fighting, being mean & rude each other was all worth in the end when they realize their feelings for each other, and let me tell you its perfectly romantic, chaotic & satisfying.
Both of them proved what its like to care for someone at their worst, and not give up on each during toughest of times. And I kid you not, the sacrifices they made or were willing to make(which was even a sin to think about in the beginning) to help, save & protect one another was phenomenal & passionate to the core.

Let the hilarity begin! Another stellar story from Melanie is this killer mash up with Princess Arabella and Will Wilder.
Arabella is sister to Prince Arthur, daughter of the King. Will is Emma's brother, star of his own Wild Man documentary of sorts show, he doesn't put down roots. She first meets Will when Emma and the family return to Avonia for Emma's wedding to Pierce. Will doesn't know who she is and Arabella is loving behaving like a normal young woman. Until she gets beckoned away and that takes care of that.
Arabella is long past tired of her staid life, the expectations, the obligations she isn't interested in and being ignored basically. What she wants and needs doesn't seem to matter. When she does something totally out of character, signs up for a TV show role and leaves her family in the dust, the story takes off. Will's ratings aren't doing well, the producers insist of spicing up the show and when Arabella shows up as his new co-star, Will isn't happy-at all. But Will needs the money to do something for Hamilton. To give him back his dream. So they're off to destination unknown.
Will decides to make her life miserable so she'll give up. All that keeps him in the game is the money he so wants. To add to the show, the producers have given them a time limit to reach their destination. These two have such a dynamic chemistry between them. Not only the steamy tension, but they are definitely equally matched. Will begins to soften a little when the Princess shows her mettle and the two spend a little quality time together. He's a great teacher and she's an eager study.
He still has his moments though when resentful Will shows up. The two made me laugh. The story is seamless, so well told from both characters, alongside the side stories from back home. The Princess is AWOL after all. A few twists and turns and some ups and downs and I loved every stinking minute of these two! Could not have been better, and that ending?

Very much like Megxit, but as your usual chicklit goes, of course it involves bonobos, poisonous berries, and a man with perfectly chiseled abs. 💁‍♀️

4.5 stars rounded up! Okay I adored this book… it was funny, cute , sweet, predictable (in the best ways), adventurous and sexy. I’m also a sucker for royalty stories - think it goes back to loving Disney / Disney princesses!

Arabella and Will are dramatic and lovable characters and their story has me wanting to go off on a jungle adventure! In some ways it reminded me of that Amazon show Worlds Toughest Race.

What I liked:
- Despite being a princess Arabella is super relatable and likeable and I loved that she wasn’t a fresh-faced 18-year old but an almost 30 year old at a crossroads in her life.
- learning about the wildlife like the bonobos was fun and hilarious and I followed it all up with my own Google searches haha)
- that the characters are also a part of other stories by the author (I will likely be grabbing these other books as I love her writing and the world she built)
- All of Arabellas sassy character development and standing up for herself. She is a warrior! And I LOVED the ending of the adventure (no spoilers).

What I didn’t like:
- some of the chapter titles gave a bit away
- wasn’t the biggest fan of the news reporters personalities BUT I did appreciate the updates
- I’m a little curious and confused how it will make that good of a show to watch because it seemed like they barely had the cameras on the last half in the wild?!?!

Would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys chick lit/ romantic comedies and is looking for a funny, sassy, fierce heroin!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the gifted e-copy!

I would actually rate this now like a 2.5. I liked the first part more than the rest of the book. I thought they had great banter. I ended up laughing audibly a few times throughout the book even though I didn't like where it went or even their relationship as a whole. I'll likely check out the next book in the series. (Actually no I won't. The next book is still about them sad a couple! Noooo, they already had a book)

The below section is not technically a spoiler since it's in the synopsis but I still hid it behind a tag just in case you're like me and don't read the synopsis before you read the book.

That was a lot of rain forest to read through🤪.
I was happy to see that princess Arabella was finally getting her own love story and I was even happier that it was with Will.
I thought it was great how she wanted to explore who she is, what she’s capable of and discovered that she is a badass. Despite the crown. Or because of it... it can really go either way.
I expected to love Will right away, as I loved Harrison but it didn’t happen. Instead, I warmed up to him and saw how perfect he really is for this particular princess. He was a bit of an a** sometimes but I guess it happens when men go through growing pains 😂.
I did not realize that their story will be an arc through several books like Arthur and Tessa. I thought initially that Will’s book will be the first and then maybe his friends’ but apparently, we will see Will and Arabella again. And I can’t wait.

A mediocre royal romance or a princess and an adventurer who get thrown together in a hate-to-love story. The characters were annoying and I kept reading waiting for them to act like adults, but it was like reading an insufferable love story of two annoying teenagers not adults.

First of all --- if you need a Content Warning for Suicide in your books - THIS IS YOUR WARNING. You won't get it in the book itself. (See the spoiler cut if you want more info.)

I wanted to like this so badly - the premise is adorable, the summary is so well-written and intriguing, and it's super easy to read...

But the characters are just awful.

First, the guys. There were guys. The problem is - they were all exactly like each other. Their speech was the same. Their descriptions were the same. Their attitudes were even the same. You could have exchanged any of them for any of the rest of them and you wouldn't have noticed.

Second, the women. I cannot believe the amount of misogyny I encountered with nearly every female character, including the side characters. They're vain, self-absorbed, petty, and spend most of their time tearing each other down instead of lifting each other up. (Grandma tells Arabella that she's a boring twit; Tessa has been on a post-pregnant-with-twins diet for a year and despite being said to be JUST FINE, not a single person will stand up for her right to have a cupcake - not even the buff manny in the pool, the TV producer thinks she can single-handed save television after watching a Ron Howard Master Class (and then sends her stars into the jungle without a camera crew).

And then there's Arabella. I admit, I nearly DNFed this at the 70% mark (and I'll explain why in a moment) because I wanted to see if ANYONE was going to call her on what she did.

So one of the reasons Arabella goes on this journey into the jungle is because her whole life, she's been told that she is the spitting image of her mother... who is heavily implied to have committed suicide when Arabella was two months old because of her inability to handle royal life. (I say "heavily implied" because at no point does the author actually say how the mom dies, but there's definite implications of mental instability.) The entire kingdom therefore is determined to save Arabella from the same fate... and therefore Arabella has never been allowed to challenge herself in her entire life, has been told she is weak and delicate, etc and so forth.

So Arabella's in the jungle now, because she starts off determined to do something adventurous. And then...

And I still don't know, because literally NO ONE called her on her extreme stupidity. In fact, it seems like no one even noticed. (Maybe because, again, she and her co-star were in the jungle without a camera crew to record a television show... via selfies? How on earth is that interesting television?)

So, yeah. Two stars, because the premise is cute, there were some eye-rolls at times, the actual prose was fine. But that's it. I might give this author another go, because I refuse to judge based on one book... but wow. I might need to read the other reviews first.

4 1/2 stars.

My first Melanie Summers read definitely won't be my last! I want to go back and read The Crown Jewels and Paradise Bay series since the two worlds collide with Royally Crushed. FYI - I had no problems following this story without reading the other two series first, I just know I would enjoy getting to know these two families better.

Will and Arabella's enemies to lovers journey was a fun one. From their meetup, to their jungle adventure, to their hea, there were tons of laugh out loud moments and crazy situations. One word, bonobos - enjoy that scene, folks! :)

While I loved so much about Will and Arabella, I really enjoyed their transformations during Royally Crushed. They both had important reasons to participate in this crazy adventure, but it ended up leading to so much more for both of them and that brought so much meaning to the story.

Can't wait for more of their story as the series evolves.

Super funny, super cute! This was my first time reading something by Ms. Summers, and I absolutely loved it! So many laugh out loud moments, I could not put this book down. This is the perfect book to pick up when you're bummed and you need something to lift your spirits. Will and Arabella are such a unique pair and I loved seeing Arabella grow as a person. I believe Will did some growing, too, as he started softening more towards her. These characters were amazing taking me through a heartfelt and hilarious journey. Ms. Summers is a talented author and knows how to put together a good story while keeping you thoroughly entertained. I'll definitely be looking for more of her books!

God, it feels like I have been waiting for years to read princess Arabella's story! I remember ever since she was first introduced in The Royal Treatment I was extremely curious to read more about her and her journey to find love. I am so happy we finally get the chance to read it now that she gets her own series! And I have to say, Arabella sure didn't disappoint me ;)

In Royally Crushed princess Arabella is pretty much done with her royal life. She is sick and tired of everyone treating her as if she was made from porcelain because she resembles her late mother so much. She longs for any little taste of freedom she can get. Unfortunately, nothing she tries to do through the "appropriate" channels works out. She is always left stuck in place and ends up being bitter and miserable.
Desperate for any kind of escape, a chance encounter with the adventurous and very handsome Will Banks leads Arabella to make a very impulsive and reckless decision. She signs up to be Will's mysterious co-host at his survival docu-series. From being the "fragile" princess, that everyone caters to, she is thrown into a situation she never imagined she'll have to face- having to survive a life or death journey through the jungle with only Will by her side.

I really enjoyed reading this book- once again I was extremely entertained and laughed out loud on several hilarious occasions. Arabella impressed me with her journey- both the real one she took through the dangerous jungle and the metaphorical one- the journey of her personal growth as a person. She learned a lot about herself, life, and what is worth fighting for. I can't wait to see what will happen next for her and Will in Royally Wild. I am sure it is going to be an entertaining ride once their docu-series finally hits the air ;)
Until then, I will have to continue waiting patiently.

Thank you so much to Melanie Summers for including me in your VIP readers club and for providing me with the copy of the book to review.

Ok

I wanted to love this. I hated the royal series (even though I usually love all things royal) but I loved the paradise bay series so I was willing to give this a chance. The storyline sounded great with Will the adventure man and Arabella the princess, but neither one had any personality. Will was blah he wasn’t anything like his brother and sister, and Arabella just lived in this well everyone told me I suck so I suck personality. Then the whole constant referencing to harry and meghan the two most self absorbed, manipulative, gold digging, celebrity world obsessed couple as brave and strong set me over the edge. Truly what is brave and courageous about those two idiots who are trying to ruin the royal family? Call it what it really is, someone who wanted fame because her acting career was dismal and thought the royal family was all about parties and mingling with celebrities, not cold castles, rules, and tradition, and someone who is spoiled, selfish, and ungrateful for his own family and privileges. Truly would meghan have even looked twice at harry if he weren’t a prince? Absolutely not, because all she has ever been seeking is fame. Also if anyone is racist it’s harry himself with the dressing up as a Nazi, making crude remarks about his fellow Pakistani soldiers, etc. I wanted to read about a love story, not an annoying ode to meghan and harry who are the world’s most narcissistic couple.

Following up the Crown Jewels and Paradise Bay Series, this Royally Crushed installment is a great story that combines the Royals of Avonia with the Banks family of the Benavente Islands. We get a great glimpse of past book couples Emma and Pierce, and Harrison and Libby of Paradise Bay, as well as Prince Arthur and Tessa of the Crown Jewels. And we see more of the royal family dynamics as Princess Arabella is at the forefront of this story. She’s so tired of being boxed in and takes her Gran’s advice to say yes to the next wild opportunity that comes her way. She secretly signs herself up to go into the wild with Will Banks and his adventure tv show. Will is not happy about this! But he needs to keep his job. These two could not be more different. Will they figure out a way to get along and survive in the wild together?

I enjoyed the first books, and found this one to be a very similar vibe. It’s a fun and cute rom-com, and also has some surprisingly touching moments. The plot seemed a bit hokey with a reality tv show, but it turned out to be a fun setting for adventure and love. I liked getting to see more of Arabella and Will, and I liked them together. Their vulnerable moments were especially touching. (It was also fun to see some fictional connection to real life royals Harry and Meghan deciding to get away from Royal responsibilities.)

For the fun rom-com that this is, and maybe #7 in a combined series, this is a 4⭐️ enjoyable read to me.

What happens when a princess and an adventure documentary host get together? Riveting TV.

Princess Arabella is tired of being compared to a mother she doesn't even know and the lack of ability to make decisions for herself. She decides the only way to break free of the mold is to drunkenly sign up to be a co-host to a wilderness docu-series. Will's show is not doing so well in the ratings and has brought in a new director to spice up the show. She ends up hiring Princess Arabella to be Will's co-host much to his dismay. Will and Arabella have 10 days from where they were dropped to make it back and their hatred for one another will make those days seem much longer than they are.

I flip flopped so much with this book. I loved it and then I was cringing and then I loved it again. It was such an interesting premise that I couldn't stop reading and had to know more. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable and I really liked how we were able to see them grow and become more honest with each other.

The author showed Arabella as a very down-to-earth person who is willing to listen to Will which I thought made her more relatable. I thought focus on the adventure she has with Will as opposed to her royal duties was a fun twist to the typical royal stories.

A princess and a wilderness survivor enthusiast get together for some tension-filled moments that lead to romance. Will has plans for his future and the first step is to boost his wilderness shows ratings. Unfortunately, his ideas are nowhere close to what the producers are proposing.
Arabella wants to change her image, she wants people to take her seriously and stop thinking of her as weak what is the better way than to survive the wilderness on TV.

This story was great for many reasons - Will and Bella have goals they need to accomplish for entirely different reasons. They had no intention of falling for each other -ain't that always the way but proximity allowed for the love to bloom

A great story all in all however a little predictable in regards to a princess story and two people from different backgrounds. Will's behavior and hate for Bella, in the beginning, is again predictable. I would have expected seeing as they have a bit of a degree of separation there would have been more understanding from his side of things.
I am not a fan of chapter titles - I would like to go into the chapter with no expectation however these chapter titles were a little too detailed - one word would suffice But that is a personal choice.

A great princess read with the wilderness added in there.

One pampered princess desperate to escape the confines of royal life. One rugged outdoorsman whose survival TV show ratings are in the toilet. What happens when you drop them into the jungle together with only each other to rely on?

This started out with Will and Arabella not standing each other. The snark between these two as they waded through the jungle was hilarious. They both had their personal reasons for agreeing to the challenge and had to put up with each other.

Will had already roughed the terrain another time. For Arabella, it was all a steep learning curve consisting of bug larvae, rappelling, sleeping under the stars, fire ants, bonobos and all that the wild could throw at her. I loved seeing her confidence grow as she learned skills from Will and became an asset more than a liability for him. His respect and tenderness towards her gradually grew right along with love.

Of course, their relationship would be a bad idea once the adventure was over since they came from vastly different worlds. I loved when they finally decided to stick it out anyway.

Giles and Veronica's news segments had me in stitches. The chapter headers were also humorous. I read The Royal Treatment, Arabella's brother Arthur's story, a few years back. I loved catching glimpses of his life with Tessa in this book 😄

Loved this book. Melanie Summers has a great story telling ability & a great imagination. This book was definitely my favourite of hers over all so far. I enjoyed watching Will & Arabella's battle of wits after an embarrassing meeting at his sisters wedding & I also enjoyed seeing Will's impression of Arabella change as their journey continues. The isolated life of royalty & the life of an adventurer don't seem to be a great mix but when Arabella & Will set out on their adventure everything seems to fall into place for them after a few minor set backs. What starts out as a way to show her family & the public that she's not her mother & definitely not weak or breakable, turns into an opportunity to step outside of her royal title & just be Arabella a young woman finding herself. It's a learning curve for Will as well, because he has no choice about anything pertaining to his adventure show this time around. Definitely enjoyed the action packed story & recommend to read. Thank You to author Melanie Summers for allowing me to read this ARC for an honest review.
