How does one come to understand evil?

The Necrolord has made her move. Countless dead. Now even the Council wants to stop her. And they’ve hired me to do it.

But I don’t play well with authority figures, and as this city-wide manhunt escalates, I’m sure to offend more than a few politicians and cops.

But none of that matters.

Because the Necrolord has killed too many people already. And I need to make her pay.

My name is Kat Drummond, and I’m a part-time monster hunter.

4.5 I was telling you a few reviews ago that this series is a really pleasant surprise in a huge sea of badly-written YA books.

Aaand, I'm so happy to be proven right!

What I saw in this book was the heroine evolving. She managed to get over her prejudice and actually grow up but not in the 'adult' sense of the word, but in the 'I'm wiser' sense of the word (I don't like adulting adults, btw).

We see a young woman who has no idea what to do but who is doing her best. We see friendship and empathy and a kick-ass chick. And most of all, we see A LOT of blood, gore, decapitated bodies, and really FUN stuff! What's not to like?!

“If I don’t fight, I lose everything.”
Our heroine is getting more mature and very skilled. It may be the hardest monster hunting for her.
A surprising turnover had me tingling all over, but I’m divided between Kat’s choice. A hard, tough monster hunter with a heart of gold and very shy and sensitive underneath that hard boiled facade, this may be a discovery to accept and not be afraid of loving and being loved. I’m more and more impressed with each new installment! The world building is fabulous, with such a great diversity of characters, each with their own quirks and personalities that complement with Kat, they bring out the human and emotional side of her, contribute to her sanity and mental wellbeing. The monsters and villains are unique, a characteristic that the author has put into so much admirable effort to reflect the dark side of mankind, but also the light that still burns inside us, no matter what adversities and adversaries we confront with everyday. A stunning ending! A very thought provoking and captivating series I highly recommend. Looking forward to reading Darkness Beckons #5.

Wow. I love this series! The way the characters evolve and the overarching mystery is slowly revealed keeps me absolutely glued to the pages. I’m in total awe of how the author manages to build the tension.

And this one has some really unexpected twists, even more intense than what came in the previous books, while also having some really sweet and fluffy moments in between the monster-slaying insanities. I’m utterly addicted and will be getting to the next book as soon as possible.

great

Awesome addition to the series and poor Kat. To finally allow herself to open up to love only to have it ripped away 😭😭😭. The necromancer is trying to get Kat on her side and it’s becoming difficult to determine who is on the side of right.

Kat is back and it’s getting messy. The Necrolord has gone too far and now the council is getting involved. Kat has been asked to assist the cops with catching the Necrolord and putting her down once and for all. Unfortunately, everything just got more complicated, Colin is moving in, a She-Vamp is out for revenge, her best friend boyfriend is in love with her, and the Necrolord wants to be buddies, WTF. Its really heating up now and you do not want to miss out, get this book you won’t regret it.

Necrolord, fourth book in the Kat Drummond series is filled with twists and turns that will keep you up well into the night finishing this suspense-filled, action-packed novel. The more we learn about Kat and the people closest to her, the more we want to see how her continuing struggles, perils and experiences will affect her. Necrolord does leave us with a cliffhanger, which I usually do not like, but, in this case, oh WOW!!!! I am looking forward to the next novel in this great urban fantasy series.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

In book four, Kat's battle with the Necrolord steps up a level when she is hired by the Council to lead a team of police and monster hunters to hunt down the Necrolord. After multiple skirmishes and encounters, Kat finally challenges the Necrolord's Marshall to a duel in an attempt to get the Necrolord to reveal herself.

Soul searching, Mystery, Intrigue, Action, and Romance with some serious twists! I see a lot of growth in Kat in this one. She is more in her mind and working out who the Necrolord is and who is behind everything. The twists will keep you on your toes. And the ending has you wanting the next book in this series. It is hard to put down!

Who are the true monsters? As Kat is growing in her abilities, understanding, and competency, the monsters are growing as well. Actually, there are just new types of monsters which cause even more problems, such as trying to figure out who the bad guys really are. Suddenly good guys show their true colors, and the bad guys (monsters) show their honesty and compassion? In other words, Kat's entire world is changing. Oh, and Kat has a boyfriend...Kat has a Boyfriend, KAT HAS A BOYFRIEND!!!

I absolutely adore this series! There is action, murders, incredible monsters, love interests, friends, laughter, and some incredible world building. I have been hooked from the very beginning, and the stories just keep getting better!

I received an ARC of the book, but I have every intention of purchasing so I can keep the entire library to read again.

Zombies, vampires and a demon, oh my! Kat has faced all of these already and is now going after the Necrolord full tilt. The Necrolord has in the past already helped Kat more than once, but is tearing up the city little by little.
The Council and the police have recruited Kat to hunt down and kill her. But is everything as it seems? Probably not.
Another wonderful chapter in the life of Kat. Can't wait to read the next one

Good story and characters. A little disappointed that it sort of ended on a cliff hanger.

I read this book so fast I was a bit surprised when I got to the end, I guess also because it didn't feel like an end... What a cliffhanger! 😱

Colllllllin! Noooooo! I'm so heartbroken 😭
What exactly was Andy thinking?? "I will kill her boyfriend and then she will date me"??
I mean, I understand violent men don't think clearly but it was a bit too much brutal and too much public to be believable..
Also, Andy was so cute and lovable at the first book, it is hard for me to think of him like that, thought again- violent men etcetera...
(How many times do you hear the friends of a wife-killer say he was 'so nice and friendly'...)

I have to admit, at first I thought Andy and Oliver were vampires, mainly because they met Oliver at the vampire specialist professor's party... But I definitely got Warewolf during this book (Oliver baring his teeth..) I guess Brett was right, always get silver bullets...!

I do hate that Colin's death happened after their (and Kat's) first time having sex, it sounds a bit like the horrible trope of 'punishin' young women for having sex... 😖 (It is very popular in horror films, even happened to Buffy...)

Also, the Nacrolord is 14 years old? Really?? The powerful nacromage and criminal mastermind is 14 years old????
C'mon...

I deeply adore Kat Drummond, the monster-hunting kick-a** heroine of Nicholas Woode-Smith’s fantastic series of the Sabe name. I vastly enjoyed the first tee we o books (each separately reviewed) and then found myself addictively reading through the next three, Necrolord (Book 4), Darkness Beckons (Book 5) and Lost Huntress (Book 6). Oh Dear Lord were these books superb. They start with the Necrolord going all out and killing countless innocents. What Kat does them is freakin’ epic, in a binge-worthy (trust me, we are taking much of a holiday day off plus all-nighter) tale full of thrills, action, conspiracies and everything else you could ask for. A totally fun set of books that were each superbly written and with a great plot, and all of which benefited from the super cast and perfect world-building created for this series. A wild roller-coaster of fun. Definitely recommended.

Kat takes charge in this fast-paced adventure that will leave you wanting more
This story was intense. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. The characters evolve in every book. Kat is learning about life. She is ditching classes and fighting the undead. There is a lot of action and drama. I felt like I was there and watching everything as it happened. The book seems that real. This book has many surprises. It is not a book that you can predict what will happen next. Kat is hunting monsters and monsters are hunting her. She is tough but has a sensitive side. Kat is a very likable person who speaks her mind. I recommend this book.

This series just gets better and better. In this book we are seeing our heroine, Kat, at her most vulnerable. She is trying to cement her personal relationship with Colin and doing the job she is hired for. Andy - the one she almost dated - is sending the most unsettling messages, even though he is dating her best friend Trudy. The Necrolord is back - with a vengeance - creating havoc all over the city at a seemingly non-ending pace.

Our heroine, Kat, continues to develop and grow, this time as a leader and the hassles that go with that, and unfortunately, being a young woman. Despite hardships, she perseveres and we meet some new people and learn more about other people and entities. All that said, this to me was the darkest of the books so far and I was a little unhappy with the events at the end (no spoilers). Still, I enjoyed the book overall, as I have the series, and will be looking for the next one to be released.

Quote: "Those who try to understand evil can’t help but become a little evil themselves. And those who slay monsters risk becoming the very monsters they have slain."

Hard to put the book down, excellent story and characters. It is getting hotter for Kat in the game of hide and seek plus the obstacles she has to overcome. Emotions and relationship are complex and captivating slowly exposing what is really going on.

Received this book free from the author and decided to review it.

Nicholas Woode-Smith has the ability to draw you into the story at a level that has you feeling Kat's frustration, doggedness to complete her tasks, and her utter horror. This book left me feeling a little lost and a whole lot angry on Kat's behalf for what she endures. It is one of those books where you have a hard time putting it down once you start it and then have a hard time putting into words the way you feel about it!

Kat is becoming stronger and growing up, but the cost is steep. I didn't want to put this down till I finished. The characters are growing and the stories are becoming more intense. Woode-Smith has created a very believable world. Beware, this does end in a cliff hanger. Can't wait till the next one!!!!

I received this book as an ARC and wished to leave a review.

This one I really could not put down!!! Everything you think you may know is probably wrong!!! Kat is again looking for the necrolord but this time has the backing of the council. The necrolord toys with Kat all while Kat wrestles with feeling for Colin and what they mean. It only took me a day to read this book and I can’t wait to start the next one!!

Things are getting real now. This series just keeps getting better and more intense! Kat is hot on the trail of a true monster (in human form), but other monsters are hot on her trail. It seems the hunter might have turned into the hunted.

Necrolord is fasinating and keeps you turning each page as fast as possible. I love hearing Kat's thoughts and feelings. The roller coaster ride continues and Kat rides it like a pro against her enemies.

I highly recommend the series.
