Lasses of the Kinnaird Castle #2

Capturing a Highland Rogue

Rate this book
One kiss from him was enough to make her drop her chastity vows...
When Marianne Browne decided to visit her best friend and mistress of Kinnaird Castle, she made two promises to herself. The first one was to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Scottish Highlands away from her oppressive father, and the second one was not to kiss again a certain ruggedly handsome but obnoxious womanizer Highlander.

Especially, when her hand is already promised to another and the time for her freedom is running out...

William Fraser was always eager to please the ladies. Or mainly, the English lass who seemed the purest of them all.

But when Lady Browne surprises him by asking him to teach her the basics of being a man, William finds his attraction to her growing stronger and the realization that they can't be together hits him even harder.

Can a man like him change and claim his woman despite everything that separates them? And what of those who threaten his happiness without his knowledge?

Only she can tame him…only he can set her free…

We saw Marianne Browne in an earlier book about the English girl, Amelia Parker, trying to make her own way in Scotland working as a companion for Fiona, an older Scottish Lady. Marianne Browne came from London to visit Amelia and met William Fraser, a good friend to Laird James Kinnaird of Scotland. This is their story. A wonderful story of a man who had been hurt at love and a woman who had never known love of a man. There was most definitely a passion igniting between the two of them , a passion neither of them knew how to handle. Marianne came to the Castle to visit Amelia and be there for the birth of her first child with Jamie. Amelia had an idea on how to get them over their awkwardness, they could teach each other something. Love blossomed as William taught Marianne how to shoot an arrow and Marianne tried to teach William how to be a proper gentleman. Their love grew as they truced with each other. Unfortunately Marianne's father was not a nice man and he wrote a letter telling her he had found a husband for her and she had to return to London immediately rather than stay for the birth. Then she received a letter from her betrothed telling her he was coming to get her and she should be ready to go in 4 evenings time. The story of that journey, and the subsequent running off of Marianne and her sister, Ruth is wonderful, action packed with a villain, a battle and a happy ending. A truly great read that is difficult to put down. I loved the story and recommend it heartily.

Believable situations, realistic characters, an insufferable father whose dominance is dished out with religious righteousness, raw emotions and feelings and a romance neither of the main characters wanted but secretly did. My heart went out to the heroine and her sister whose father's strict unbending rules used the bible to enforce them. He had no love or charity in his heart for his daughters and that pained them. He had a temper and took it out on them. The hero's dead fiancée had betrayed him in the worse way and he swore to never give his heart to another woman. He did not trust them. When their mutual friend's pregnancy brought them together, they reminded me of children behaving badly. They liked each other but showed it in the worse ways possible. They tried to make it look like they did not like and hated each other. But it did not fool their friends. Their friends knew better and hatched a scheme to match make. Sad for the heroine and her sister's home life, entertained by the antics between the H/h trying to keep away from each other and delighted by the mischief minded friends of theirs wanting their happiness. A good read. I do recommend.

ONE WILD ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!!!
Holy helter! Kenna is kicking ass and taking names with this thrilling, block busting, nailbiting, jaw dropping masterpiece that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. A swirling multitude of inadvertent happenstance and surprising mishaps catapults your swirling emotions into play fluidly. The drama, angst, abuse, intrigue, mettling and suspense blaze through blaze this baby together one jagged piece at a time. Add in distress and turmoil and you have the recipe for one chart topping, prize winning bombshell. Pushing on-ward, hurdling the trials and tribulations, along with a slew of plot twists and sharp turns thrusts this baby into a tailspin with stunning impacts. The chemistry sizzles from the pages and suck you in so deeply until you feel the heat and electricity thrumming through your veins. The characters are authentic, original and realistic with depth and on point personalities that blend and flow smoothly. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it's easy to interpret each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Remarkable job Kenna, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

I liked the story and would recommend it to others. However I would like add that whoever buys the Kindle version of this book will be surprised that if they want to read the entire book (which should include the extended epilogue), they will have to take the step of giving their name and email address which then takes the person to a website to read the remainder of the book. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have seen this step taken by an author when purchasing a Kindle book version. In my opinion, it is an attempt to get readers to subscribe to newsletters or other materials the reader may not be interested in. I think this is wrong. In the future, I suggest this author should give the purchaser the entire story and not just a portion. I did go to the website to read the rest of the work and in my opinion the book is incomplete without the important extended epilogue. By reading it, the remainder of the story is revealed along with other advertising.

Your emotions swirl through you as you read this story by Kenna Kendrick! Capturing a Highlander Rogue is an unforgettable Highland romance with a strong plot that brings this read together perfectly. With a magnificent cast of characters who are complex and believable with wonderful secondary characters. William is a heart stopping, sensuous Highlander who is happy go lucky and who loves teasing, Marianne is busy avoiding Williams "wiles" and trying to control her "evil urges". A heart pounding love story with delicious passion, plenty of drama, delightful dialogue, adventure, and trying to avoid her an arranged marriage. I loved revisiting old friends that you haven't seen for a while. I fell in love with so many of the characters.

Marianne wishes to visit her friend (Amelia) in Scotland who is about to have a baby. Marianne’s very strict, dominating father will only let her go if she returns as soon as the baby is born. He wants her to marry a man he has chosen for her – who happens to be old enough to be her father.

William is the best friend of Amelia’s husband. He is suffering from a betrayal years ago.

This book is about their story. They each tried to keep their distance from each other not wanting to get close. Can they actually keep from their growing attraction to each other? Can they thwart her father’s plans for her?

I liked the characters – both the main characters and the supporting ones.
There were some funny parts and well as sad and happy.
I enjoyed this book.

This is the 2nd book in this series.
They are both stand alone novels.
They are both delightful and I would encourage you to read them both.
I am really enjoying this series.

An arranged marriage, a chance to spend time with a friend awaiting the arrival of a baby.
Our hero William arrives at his family home for Christmas.
There is lot of action, misunderstandings, & love in this book.

McKenna has added another great read, she is a gifted writer.
I have not been disappointed with any of her books.

It is always a delight to enter into this world with the tales from this author. Being Scottland is on my bucket list I adore the stories. We follow Marianne in this as she goes to visit her friend. Even though it seems her heart is going one way she eventually would seem have to go with no heart. Oh her daring it what she asks has us liking where it is going. What can conquer most anything eh? Anyways William has us fanning ourselves as this goes on and unfolds with humor sprinkled along with good romance. The end result is one fine ending to see for yourself.

Another Visit to Bonny Scotland

This book is Marianne and Williams story, but you will definitely get greater enjoyment if you have read Capturing the Highlanders Heart first. Jamie, Amelia, and Fiona are in this book too. Marianne’s father is very, very strict, but allows Marianne to travel to Scotland and then the adventure begins. A lovely Scottish romance that is pleasing to read.

Great love story!

I'm so happy Jenna wrote a story just for Marianne and Wiiliam! I loved the way William brought Mariannes's confidence and strong will out. Marianne was able to get William to open his heart up again to love. My favorite part was when Marianne saved William with her bow and arrow. I can't wait to see what she has in store for Ruth and Troy! Go out and get this book you won't be disappointed!

Wonderful Highland Romance with a strong plot that keeps your interest from start to finish. The characters, both main and secondary, are realistic and interesting. With lots of drama, adventure, turmoil, delightful dialogue, fantastic chemistry, romance and love, this story is one not to be missed. How Marianne and William overcome a diabolical father, and learn to trust each other is so well presented that you will feel as though you are right there with them. I loved this one.

Capturing a Highland Rogue

Once again Kenna Kendrick has written an amazing highlander book. When Marianne visited her friend at Kinnard castle to be there for Lady Kinnard’s birth of her baby she learned fighting, archery and sword skills. William was the teacher and he and fell deeply in love. Meantime Marianne’s father betrothed her to a sixty year old man. To find how this ends you must read the book.

Second time round

She went to help her friend before having her first child not to fall in love. But that’s just what she did. Now her father has promised her to an older man, cutting her trip short. He’s been betrayed before and not sure his love is returned. When she disappears he quickly realizes he has to get her back before it’s too late.

Kenna you have out done yourself on this one.
William and Marianne's story is a great one. An over bearing father will not stop his daughter from finding true love. Great hand of from book 1, leading us through the trials and adventures that William and Marianne take to get to their Happily Ever After.
Extended epilogue is a great lead in for book 3. CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Obedience or Freedom!

This story reminded me why I want to live in the 21st century rather than several hundred years ago. Women were subject to the whims of the men who controlled them. Our heroine dreamed of the freedom to make her own decisions. Read along to follow her as she struggles through her restraints.

Another adventure this time with the new Marianne and William. Marianne came to visit her friend and William was there. The fiesty girl from England gave William a hard time. This book has drama, suspense, twists and turns, and romance. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.

Honestly, I could kick myself for waiting to read this book last minute. Once I started sleeping was something that could be put on hold till I finished this book.

This might be the best book in the series so far.

If you have not started this series don't wait another moment. Each book is a standalone but reading them in order is so much better.

An interesting read, although quite unlikely

An interesting read and much improved on the first book as far as typos/grammatical errors. Also the extended epilogue was better.

I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £7.99 a month for the subscription)

Extended epilogues are unnecessary. If an author can not tell the entire story, choose an hobby. Not even close to recommended.
