Brandt Grace is trouble no matter what he says or does, always getting in his own way, and trying to prove he can do better and be better only to fall on his face. Book Two - Saving Grace - follows Brandt’s unintentional fall for Lola Donovan, the previously friendly girl turned quiet ghost of a girl. They connect at rock bottom, finding an unexpected source of strength in each other. Can they find a way to leave the past behind and build a future together?
Jess B. Moore is a writer of love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s busy mothering her accomplished and headstrong children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she’ll likely never finish.
Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cats, thinking the Internet loves them as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.
The Fox River Romance novels combine her interests in family, music, and small towns into a thoughtful tales of growing up and falling in love. These books can be read as stand-alone, or as a series starting with The Guilt of a Sparrow.

Growing up, everyone had a secret crush on a Grace brother. A whispered admission followed by all the reasons it was a bad idea.
If I’d been a cartoon, my jaw would have dropped open and flies would have flown into my mouth. He walked in heels? For a good cause?
Right. Wrong. They had lost some of their meaning over the years, words worn soft from constant use and too much thought. I had too often done the wrong thing, knowing it, and unable to climb my way out. When I tried to do the right thing, it often turned out to be wrong, and I had lost all concept of which was which.
What must it be like to see the world in lines and color? I imagined a mix of vibrancy and shadows, but couldn’t fathom translating objects or people or ideas into art.
I adored my baby brothers, but they drove me nuts. Did not care they were technically adults with good reputations. To me, they were brats who made too many fart jokes and cut the hair off my Barbie dolls.
My Review:
I don’t know how she does it but Jess B. Moore makes angst palatable rather than painful. She has to be some sort of magical being as she has now pulled off this miraculous and mystifying feat four times, I can think of no other explanation. Her writing is poignant, perceptive, and cunningly emotive; it stings my eyes, squeezes my heart, and plays me like a finely tuned Dobro while hitting all the feels as well as the notes to a haunting and evocative melody.
Written in my favorite dual POV, Saving Grace was a heartrending and deftly penned tale occurred during the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas and dealt with addition, regrets, abuse, shame, small-town gossip, and a load of family drama while an unexpected fledgling romance was slowly gathering speed between two silently struggling acquaintances. The characters were endearingly flawed and realistically drawn with real-world issues. Brandt had a dark history and tainted reputation and Lola was a girl with magic eyes, and in more ways than one as she could see Brandt when his own family couldn’t. Sigh, I adored them but am now more curious than ever about Hudson, the last remaining Grace brother.
Saving Grace is the fourth book in this Fabulous Series. Although it is the fourth book you can read it as a standalone, But I encourage you to read all the books as they are all so different and very good!
It is written in dual points of view which I really enjoyed as you really get an in-depth understanding and connection with the characters Lola and Brandt.
Lola has walked away from her family after she believes she has done something so unthinkable that they would never be able to forgive her. So it's best she cuts herself off and stay away.
Lola and Brandt went to school together, he was Lola's secret crush. Now they are adults and both bump into each other again, he still gives her that thunderbolt heartbeat of attraction.
Brandt has a reputation for being a bit of a bad boy and a trouble maker his family was known in the neighbourhood as white trash. But Brandt is back and his brother is not happy. One person who is happy is Lola, we can't resist a bad boy and he certainly had Lola's heart racing.
But can the two lay there past to rest and focus on their future and each other, or will secrets have a way of coming out or a charred reputation get in the way?
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Lola and Brandt. They are both complex, Endearing and flawed characters, but they have a warmth about them and watching their friendship and chemistry sizzle between them blossom was lovely to watch.
Saving Grace is a wonderfully warm and compelling story about secrets, guilt, trust, drama, relationships, family drama, abuse, reputation, moving on, reconnecting and finding love. The pace flowed between characters perfectly and their stories weaved together seamlessly.
Once again Jess has written a Gem of a book that I highly recommend. Not just this book but the whole series!
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Saving Grace is the 4th book of the Fox River Romance series written by Jess B. Moore. This book is told in alternating points of view between Lola Donovan and Brandt Grace. Brandt and Lola have known each other since kindergarten and their attraction for each other is undeniable.
Brandt, a handsome tattoo artist, has a rough past and a dark family life, who grew up with an abusive father who hurt his brothers Ash and Hudson. Staying sober is a daily challenge for him.
Lola Donovan is a school teacher whom for over the past year has avoided people and her family. Lola felt that she had done something that was a complete shame to the man she loved and to her family.
Brandt and Lola both have had some troubled past, but need each other to make themselves whole again through their love and honesty for each other. This book goes over deep topics such as domestic abuse, alcohol abuse, and rape as issues the main characters have to go through as part of their back story and their journey to healing. I enjoyed this quick read, and I loved the complexity of the characters, the small town and family story.
Lola Donovan is hiding. She is hiding from her family, her friends and the town. Besides going to work, she stays home. What is she hiding? Brandt Grace has the reputation of being a bad boy. He has been suspected of dealing drugs, he's an alcoholic and has a terrible temper. Is any of that true?
Saving Grace is the 4th book of the Fox River Romance series written by Jess B. Moore. This book is told in alternating points of view between Lola and Brandt. Even though they have known each other since kindergarten, they really don't know a lot about each other. When they meet up on Thanksgiving the attraction is there, an undercurrent that neither is comfortable with. With Brandt having nowhere to go that night after being kicked out of the house he was sharing, Lola invites him to live in her spare room until he finds somewhere else. What happens next is wonderful. I do not want to ruin the story for anyone, but these two damaged souls heal each other in an amazing way.
This is a story about forgiveness, especially forgiving yourself. It deals with new beginnings when you finally let go of your past. Some of the issues touched upon include alcoholism, domestic abuse and sexual assault, but not in any graphic ways. This is a romance, but it is more than that. It shows how two people who love each other can heal one another by accepting mistakes and moving on. I enjoyed this story and recommend it to those who enjoy new beginnings and sweet romance.
If you know me and my reviews, and if you have been following what I have been reading and reviewing, you probably know the author of this book and probably remember how much I loved her previous novels in this series. That been said, of course I loved this one as well. Jess B. Moore has never disappointed me with her stories.
As soon as I started reading I know I would be an emotional mess because of past experiences with this series. The characters and their background and all their fears and dreams are so real that I can't control myself and end up falling in love with them, and feeling like I'm part of a big family.
The fact that the characters have flaws like anyone in the real made it possible for me to feel empathy as well as really hope for them. The entire series talks about lots of topics of our society that maybe aren't really talked about, and that aspect of this book - as well as all the others - elevates the all story because it make us think. I can see myself talking to my friends about it (if they ever listen to my recommendations), and even rereading this novel over and over again, no matter the rollercoaster of emotions.
In Saving Grace we follow Lola Donovan and Brandt Grace, the story is told in both their POV and that helps us get a better understanding of what's going on and I love that. I love their interactions and how they get to know one another better, because let's be honest, I live in a small town, and we know everyone and their mothers and still we don't really know each other, despite having been in school together for years when we were kids. People grow up, live gives them good and bad moments, we learn we suffer and we enjoy the happiness we have, and we change... because that happens!
That been said, yes, Lola and Brandt knew each other, but things change and it was good to see them discover things about each other and the relationship developing more than just two people that have always known each other and have physical attraction. So for me, it was fun to see the relationship grow.
And let me just say, on a funny note, I love tattoos so I wish I could really see Brandt's artwork. I think that was really important to him, and I just wish I could see him at work.
Overall, I loved this book just as much as I did the previous one in the series. It was fun, emotional, thought provoking and in a good pace. I do recommend this novel, as well as the others, because although this book can be read as a standalone I suggest you read the three other books to get a full experience on the series and on Jess B. Moore's writing.
[I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Jess B. Moore for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]
I found this book interesting. The title is very apt and actually misleading in a way as the hero's surname is Grace. I found the heroine a bit naïve and immature in the way that she handled her transgression and you have to read almost the complete book to find out what the "terrible sin" is that drove her away from her family. Well written but not quite my taste.
I’m a huge fan of Jess since reading & reviewing her first book. Each book since has been a gem of varying hues. I love her characters, the settings she employs, and the journeys of the people who populated her town of Fox River. This one is so very character centred, we see a lot less of those friends and families amongst whom Lola and Brandt live and spend their lives, than in other books. It fits very well with Lola’s self-imposed semi-exile, and Brandt’s life on the edges of his family. Absolutely fantastic.
Saving Grace is the first book I have read by Jess B. Moore and it definitely won’t be the last! Lola is punishing herself by avoiding family and most of her friends for something that happened a year ago. Brandt comes into her life again on Thanksgiving. He has a reputation as a bad boy. As the story progresses his true character starts to shine while Lola continues to punish herself. A truly wonderful story! I received an advance copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Not sure how this should go; have never written a review before. I do want to express my pure enjoyment of Saving Grace. I had never read this author before, and will definitely read more of Jess B. Moore. The story line drew me in and I had a hard time putting the book down (like to sleep). The characters Lola and Brandt fit together so well, such a sweet love story. I found Lola somewhat naive and Brandt an awesome character. I recommend this book to everyone. It's a sweet read, but has topics that are pertinent to today and introduces discussions of those topics.
Jess B. Moore is one of the only Contemporary authors I read and this book proves why! Her writing is poignant and wonderfully owexeofice. I can’t lie, I cried a little feeding parts of this one.
The characters are relatable and sometimes that makes the novel even better. I love the dual POVs. I’m in love with character driven stories and Jess B. Moore is a brilliant writer!
Overall, I was rather fond of this story. I absolutely love Jess B Moore’ writing and I would definitely recommend this one!
*I recieved a complimentary copy of this book as part of a blog tour with Rachel's Random Resources. All opinions are my own.*
The Fox River books just keep getting deeper and better. Lola is punishing herself by staying away from her family, thinking she has done something so horrible no one will forgive her. Brandt also has a dark past that no one could forgive him for. But as they get reacquainted, they help each other. The subjects of abuse, alcoholism and rape are dealt with very sympathetically, and forgiving yourself is also a large part of this story. I loved this group of friends and look forward to more of them.
“You come clean. You learn from your mistakes. You move on and try not to make the same mistake again.”
I love these words. This story is really about learning to forgive yourself. It also looks at fighting your demons to create a worthy life. EEEEKKK Love it.
Brandt is one of the Grace brothers. Lola is a small town teacher who from the beginning feels like she has some big wounds and poor feelings of self worth. As this story progresses you keep getting teased with information. It is clear we are not getting all the details and our couple separately are dealing with some big things.
This story is awesome. Slow reveals are some are my favorite kinds of stories and this one doesn’t disappoint. It has such a beautiful message that really touches my heart. It definitely has a few hard hitting topics. What a wonderful five star story. Happy Reading Everyone!
Saving Grace is a sweet, emotional love story between two individuals who have been lost for some time in their own darkness.
Lola is a shell of the girl she used to be. She is avoiding her family and friends because of something that happened in her past. She is really in a dark place, but her friend, Annabelle changes that with an invitation. Little does she know, this day will change her life.
Like Lola, Brandt is in a place of darkness as well. He has a reputation as a “bad boy,” not to mention he is at odds with his brothers. He is trying his best to prove himself as something other than a failure. When he sees Lola, something in his world shifts, even though they have known each other since they were children.
Both Lola and Brandt are great characters who are complex at their core. They both tugged at my heartstrings. It was as if they recognized the darkness in one another, and it drew them together. They each taught the other how to be strong and believe in themselves. Not only was this a book about finding someone, it was about finding themselves and building a better life from their broken pieces.
The author touched on several sensitive issues such as addiction, domestic abuse, and sexual assault. She did it with candor and class, and really raised some great questions on those topics. I enjoy a good, emotional romance with great characters who really change from the people they were at the beginning of the book, and Jess B. Moss gave me that.
I couldn’t put this book down! It is filled with pain and angst, but the growing attraction between Brandt and Lola is beautiful and genuine.
I hated myself a little more each time, too, knowing they’d never un-see the filth on me if they knew the truth.
Written in Lola’s and Brandt’s points of view, the story is told over the holiday season where small-town family drama abounds and two unlikely acquaintances become an attraction of two lost souls willing to trust each other.
I cried for Lola, a school teacher with a secret, and I hurt for Brandt, a tattoo artist trying to escape his past. They were born into unforeseen circumstances where they want to be loved and trusted for who they truly are. Not judged by their past.
I loved the complex characters and the small-town family dynamic; however, I felt the story was too rushed at the end. With that being said, I highly recommend the fourth story in the Fox River Romance series to anyone who enjoys romances with important topics of today such as alcoholism and infidelity.
Thank you to Ms. Moore for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectation of a positive review.
This is my first book by this author and it is nothing like I was expecting. Lola and Brandt both have issues that they are trying to reconcile within themselves. This is small town America at its core. Although these two went to school together, Lola really knew nothing about Brandt and his life's struggles. The basic story deals with some touchy issues, but it is done in a very tasteful and not preachy manner. I personally come from a background with a couple of these issues and I normally choose to not read this type of book, but I am glad that I stuck with this relatively short book.
I did receive an ARC copy of this book from the author. However, this is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
What a beautiful cover. A shortish read too. The story is told through the two main characters Lola and Brandt… Good girl. Bad guy. Or is it??? Saving Grace is an easy, fast paced read set in a small town where everyone knows each other… Bless Lola she’s holding on to the past and isn’t letting go which is affecting her present. Brandt is a bad boy who’s claiming he has changed but has he? These two totally different characters end up together in a way they never expected. It’s a beautiful story with some challenges along the way and an ending that was perfect! A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend. I really enjoyed reading this one. Brilliantly written. Short chapters.
I was given this book to review. Lola comes from a loving and supportive family. She couldn’t forgive herself for what she did and didn’t allow herself any forgiveness, neither a right to be happy. Brandt came from a dysfunctional family but rose above all of that to become a strong man of integrity. He liked Lola from kindergarten. Read the book to find out more 😁.
Awesome book! I had never read a book by this author before and I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the characters, especially loved Lola and Brandt! Read this very quickly because that's how much I loved it! I am so excited to read the other books by Jess B. Moore! Great book! A must read!
ANOTHER great book by Jess B. Moore!! Lola and Brandt are so real and believable. I appreciate how Jess lets the reader hear the perspectives of both characters and isn't afraid to tackle deep topics. I definitely recommend this book!
Saving Grace is my fourth book. (I'm still in awe of this fact!) This one is full of longing and angst. Covers tough topics (like consent and alcoholism). But as a true romance, promises a happy ending!
You can read Saving Grace as a stand alone!
Or, you can read Saving Grace as the fourth in the Fox River Romance series. If you're into chronological order, it goes like this: The Guilt of a Sparrow Fierce Grace The Worth of a Penny Saving Grace
Thanks for reading, and I hope you love this story!!
