This graphic novel is heavily inspired by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but it's made for kids. The Earth blows up and a teenage girl named Kay is the only survivor. She's found by two aliens, a sort of dinosaur called Arizona, and a three-eyed dog called Euclid. Together they must find out what happened to Earth while exploring strange places from space. The characters must solve different problems they encounter, like fighting monsters, but they also learn how to talk about their feelings.
The dialogs are clever and the jokes tend to be carefully thought, with many references being made. I enjoyed a lot this aspect of the book, but I think that the language used isn't one accessible to kids younger than 12 because of the frequent ironies. I recommend this to kids who like reading about space and aliens, of course.
The characters are diverse, including a black main character and a gay main character. Their personalities are valued and expressed throughout the whole book. Even if this is a graphic novel, character development has an important role here.
One negative aspect I encountered was the fact that the book doesn't do what it promises. We don't find out what happened to Earth. This subject doesn't evolve at all throughout the book. This might depend on future books, but if I judge this one alone, it didn't fulfill my need of finding out what happened. And kids also need an explanation for this sort of thing.
To also add something personal and further motivate my rating, I didn't enjoy this book as an adult. I constantly compared it with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so that's probably the reason why I gave this a lower rating.
