Join Splat and his class on a field trip to an ice cream factory in this delectable I Can Read book from New York Times bestselling author-artist Rob Scotton.
Splat can barely sit still during the bus ride. He's imagining the mountain of ice cream he thinks he'll get to eat! But when Splat gets there, that mountain becomes more of an avalanche. It's up to Splat and his classmates to save the day!
Beginning readers will practice the –eam sound in this easy-to-read addition to the Splat series. Splat the I Scream for Ice Cream is a Level One I Can Read book, which means it's perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences.
Rob Scotton is the bestselling author and illustrator of "Russell the Sheep," and "Russell and the Lost Treasure." His latest book, "Splat the Cat" is the story of a young cat facing all the wonders and worries of his first day at cat school. Rob's work can also be found on greeting cards, ceramics, textiles, prints, stationery, and glassware. An honors graduate of Leicester Polytechnic, Rob now lives in Rutland, England, with his wife, Liz, who is also an artist.
Read for my daughter’s bedtime. Splat the Cat and his fellow cats are going to an ice cream factory. He thought he will eat a lot of ice cream when he gets there but instead the tour guy talks on and on about the freezer. His eyes glazed over and his head droopy listening. He began to daydream..
Great and easy read for a kindergartener. My son enjoyed it and enjoyed the sweet story that was told. It also made him want ice cream, so I guess that’s one small negative.
My son and I read this together and I felt that this could have been a level 2 book more so than a level 1 as labeled. Level one is geared more towards kids that are coming out of a Jane and Dick book. A lot more complicated words.
Everyone is excited for the field trip to the ice cream factory. But when the first part of the tour is super boring, Splat accidentally causes a huge mess and everyone must pitch in to help clean up.
Splat the Cat readers can be a bit zany because they are a teensy bit more worried about introducing a certain phonics concept than the plot. This one is quite crazy but still manages to have a plot that makes sense. The phonics emphasis is on the long e sound produced by different vowel blends. It'd be best to read this only with ice cream on hand or you may have problems.
There is no way this is a level one reader. My granddaughter is a level one reader and not only was this book too long, but the structure was WAY above her reading level and she is a fantastic little reader.
This is yet another mindless, pointless children’s book. It contains little substance, no plot, and static characters. We definitely won’t read it again. Super disappointing.
Splat the Cat is taking on a new adventure in this transition picture book! He is on his way to get himself some ice cream through this silly book.
I have read a splat the cat book before and didn't really care for it but I thought I would give this one a try anyway! I ended up not really caring for it that much but I am sure some kids might still enjoy it.
I don;t think I would use this as a big lesson in my class but I could use it when I pull students up to practice reading or pull some sight words from it.
Ben did not want to read this book. I told him that picture books don't take very long and that you should try them before you decide what to do with them. So we read it, he enjoyed it, but then he decided it goes on the garage sale this summer. Fine by me.
Read this to my 33 year old girlfriend & she was overtaken with joy. Then someone goes missing & her joy turned to worry. By the end we just wanted ice cream. Now I'm proud of myself for reading tonight.
Splat The Cat is baskin' in the Baskin-Robbins in this newest tale! Splatty and the kitty Cat kids of Mrs Wimpydimple's class are on a field trip to an ice cream factory, on a tour led by Professor Jellybean. Of course you couldn't be less like Willy Wonka than Jellybean, who drones on and on with a speech on the ice cream making process. Splat gets bored, leans back and hits a huge button, the BIG RED ONE! Splat!!! goes gallons of ice cream in a huge tidal wave, one a kitty could surf on!! So every feline student gets to eat away the big mess and everything is fun...until the beloved Seymour Mouse is missing! Eek! Now they really have to scarf that ice cream just to find him! Will they find him, or is he in heaven...or Heavenly Hash? Splatty still comes thru for fans of his Good Humor (lol) with 31 flavors of whoopass fun! Four stars Splatty and his ice cream dream makes you FELINE GOOD!!!
A field trip the ice cream factory is exactly how Splat the Cat wants to spend his day. As him and his friends arrive, they expect to be surrounded with the delicious ice cold sweet treat. Instead, they are met with a lesson on freezers. As the lesson drags on, Splat accidentally presses a big red button. Ice cream shoots everywhere! Personification is a huge part of this book. Each of the cats are given human like qualities as they can talk to each other as well as hold things such as buckets and mops. Without this personification factor, the book would not be only like how it is. Splat the Cat gets a five star review from me. Splat is an adorable character which children will be able to easily relate to. Within that, Splat and his friends can help teacher children wonderful things. They were able to come together as a team to not only find their friend, but also clean up the factory which they accidentally made dirty in the first place.
Splat and his class go on a field trip to the ice cream factory. They are excited to see all the ice cream and are hoping they get a chance to eat a lot of it. When they get there the are bummed to be in a room with no ice cream insight while they get a talk on freezers. Splat accidentally hits a button on the wall that released a wave of ice cream. Splat finds out that his friend is missing and his friends help him look. They all cleaned and eat the ice cream in every room, but still can't find his friend. Then a splat of ice cream lands on Splat's head. He looks up to see that his friend is on a beam eating ice cream. The owner of the factory asked how he can repay Splat and his friends for cleaning up. He asks if they all want ice cream, but they are all tired of ice cream. I would recommend this book to first time readers because it has excellent vocabulary for young readers. This book I think includes diversity because of Splat being a cat and his friend being a mouse.
Adorable & Perfectly Balanced Between Easy and Challenging For Young Readers
As a child, I loved books like this one: the kind with engaging visuals and simple sentences which introduced a few challenging words I could feel proud of myself for learning with parental assistance (or, sometimes, on my own). I feel like they strike an important balance which aids education and fosters a love for reading.
In this particular book, there's a fun story about cats who want to eat a ton of ice cream and realize in an amusing adventure that perhaps they should he careful what they wish for. It's zany and cute and kind of like a cartoon. I definitely would recommend this for youngsters who love reading.
Splat and friends visit the ice cream factory in this shaky allegory for the dangers of communism. The cats are first bored with the intricacies of labor; they view Mr Jellybean as a bore, an obstacle to their unfettered access to capital. When Splat “accidentally” spills all the ice cream, the cats seize the means of production and eat all of the ice cream.
Anti-proletariat propaganda, suggesting that such a revolution will only yield tummy aches. “Revolt and suffer,” the book warns. If your kids feast on a balanced diet of Cheerios, fruit snacks, and the rich, keep them away from this book.
Splat's class is going on a field trip to the ice cream factory. Splat and his classmates think that they are going to eat a mountain of ice cream! But when that mountain turns into an avalanche its up to Splat and his classmates to save the day!
I love ice cream and I think kids will love this book because it has ice cream and also funniness because of Splat the cat. This is my first splat the cat book I own I got this from goodwill when my mom got me a bunch of picture books and this was one of them. I love splat the cat

This is a great book because it teaches the students how to react when they make mistakes. The class went on a field trip to an ice cream factory. They were excited until they realized how boring it was to make ice cream. Splat makes a mistake and spills ice cream everywhere which created a small problem. They all worked together to clean up the mess and couldn’t find the mouse. They ended up finding the mouse by eating the ice cream. It is a very good read that allows the children to laugh and smile from
I love ice cream so this was a must to see if it will be chosen for the grandkid bookshelf. I do believe it will win a place. Splat and his friends are going on a field trip to visit and ice cream factory. They find that it is pretty boring and lots of learning until someone starts to fall asleep and hits an emergency button by mistake. I am with Splat and his friends at the end when no-one wants any more ice cream after the day they have had.
Splat the 🐱 was happy. The school field trip was to the I🍦 factory. Mr. Jellybean, the Plant Manager, greeted them and asked the class if they wanted a tour. While listening to his speech, Splat leaned against a red button. Alarms blared. What did he do? You get to read/listen to find out!! 📚 Happy Reading 📚
My son really enjoys Splat the Cat books, and when he saw this one, he really wanted to read it. His reading level has increased, and he has been able to read other level one books, but this one was very difficult for him. There were too many words he hadn’t seen or couldn’t pronounce. We will continue to practice it.
He's imagining the mountain of ice cream he thinks he'll get to eat! But when Splat gets there, that mountain becomes more of an avalanche. It's up to Splat and his classmates to save the day! For this book, the students will read the book and then write a sentence about what their favorite ice cream is.

This is a fun read for beginners. The trip and the tour the cat students take is adventurous. It was a cute way the mouse had some mystery. And too much of something even Ice cream can be excessive.
This book is fun. My son and I enjoyed it. Also good for children learning to read, it is nice and entertaining so that it will hold a child's attention. Also it's about ice cream! who doesn't like ice cream?
To easy I’m 8 so It’s easy for me I can read level 5 and chapter books my mom told me to read because it’s summer break that means I have to keep doing math and reading Ps I like Ice cream that’s why I give It 4 star
I liked the part where Seymour whispered, "For now". I also liked that all the ice cream spilled and my grandmom liked that they cleaned it all up. If you like Splat the cat you need to read this book. Alexiah Fontenord
This was a fun story to read with my daughter. She loves the fact that they ate all the ice cream. The words are simple but still a little bit of a challenge for her grade level.
My 4-yr old grandkid read and enjoyed this book a lot. We loved the colors and the characters and the ice cream. I especially enjoyed that as soon as we turned the pages, she would try to imagine the storyline. Loved it!
