I HAVE THE BEST, MOST LOVELY, LOYAL, SUPPORTIVE READERS IN THE WORLD. Here are some of my reviews:
"I adored the various storylines, loved the quirky and captivating characters, and was beguiled by Ms. Bloom's colorful and highly amusing writing style. I am hopelessly addicted. More Fat Girl, please!"
"The book was just a delight to read. Every time I picked the book up I could guarantee that it was going to make me smile. The full-length novel was funny, this one was hilarious, and heart-breaking at the same time. I was completely and utterly hooked to the pages and didn't want the book to end."
"The last thing on earth I need is another addiction, but I fear I have acquired a new one for the cunningly amusing author Bernice Bloom and her wily Adorable Fat Girl series. Mary Brown is an adorable yet outrageous Queen-Sized trouble-magnet and party animal who manages to embroil herself in the oddest of quandaries."
"I can't recommend this book enough. This series is fast becoming my favourite and I can't wait to see what's in-store next for Mary. I urge you to pick up these books, you won't be disappointed!"
"Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl is just THE most heartwarming, funny and emotional read. It's great to have a more real life heroin
Cruise with an Adorable Fat girl is a fantastic short story which is part of a series of short adventures where we follow Mary. All are standalone books.
I was so excited to be back with Mary and her escapades. This one sees Mary on a Cruise with her good friend Dawn.
I love Mary she is such a fantastic character. Representing us plus size women. She is full of fun, drama, mishaps and mayhem but that is what makes her so relatable. She's witty and has a big heart. She has become my hero as I can see me in her. I just wish i had her confidence at times.
When the Book opens we see several letters Mary has written to the very handsome Captain confirming the all you can eat Buffett and fully stocked mini bar. Oh and forget a single pillow chocolate..Mary wants the box. I was laughing so much. Nothing has changed. I knew this was going to be another fab laugh out loud read!.... I was right.
When Mary boards the cruiseliner Angel of the Sea she meets the very handsome Captain Will Homarus. He has turned Mary's head and she likes what she sees. Lol never mind she's just left boyfriend Ted on land! Watch this space!! I think things are about to get interesting.... as Will asks Mary to join him at his table!
Mary quickly settles in to the cruise life. I would love to holiday with Mary I know she would be loads of fun.
This was another fabulous read and Bernice has once again bought Mary's character to life. I loved all the characters we meet on the cruise. Bernice has managed to send my emotions on a rollercoaster one minute she is making me laugh so hard I had tears and the next she tugged at my heartstrings.
Cruise with an Adorable Fat girl is a short Believable, fun, heartwarming, hilarious read. I felt like I was on holiday with Mary. With a main character you will Love, relate too and want to be Besties with!
Once again I salute Bernice for representing the plus sized community. Making it ok to love our bodies no matter what!
I can't recommend this book enough. This series is fast becoming my favourite and I can't wait to see what's in-store next for Mary. I urge you to pick up these books, you won't be disappointed!
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Earlier in the month I reviewed the new full-length novel about overweight Mary Brown, Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl. Today I am reviewing a short novella featuring our heroine as she sets sail on a fabulous cruise, alone.
Mary was supposed to be on a cruise with her blogger friend, but just before the ship set sail she received a phone call from her stating that something had come up and she couldn’t go. Mary was also told that she couldn’t let anyone know that her friend wasn’t on board and needed to cover for her when people asked where she was. Her friend also told her she needed to take lots of photos and keep a log of what she got up to and send it to her so she can write it up on her blog. Mary had no option but to agree.
On board she met Jenette and her elderly friend, 96 year-old Frank. Frank was just a lovely humble man. He fought in the war, was taken prisoner, lost his friends and fell in love, all in a short space of time. He was on the cruise to go and pay his respects to where his two best friends died in Tunisia and to see his late wife’s family who lived in Sicily.
Every time Frank told his stories about his life I wanted to know more, and just like Mary every time he had to leave it there until another day I was disappointed.
Also among the throngs of passengers on board was Mary’s ex-boyfriend, Simon, who thought she had died of Leprosy, gay dancer Juan, who was so full of life, Captain of the ship, hunky Homarus and the germ-free couple!
Mary found herself in a pickle a few times, from being mistaken for actress Rebel Wilson, to ending up on stage as a dancer whilst trying to hide from her ex.
The book was just a delight to read. Every time I picked the book up I could guarantee that it was going to make me smile. The full-length novel was funny, this one was hilarious, and heart-breaking at the same time. I was completely and utterly hooked to the pages and didn’t want the book to end.
If I was surprised to see Simon, then he was a million more times surprised to see me ... for the simple fact that four years ago I’d told him that I had six months to live. I know, I know, it’s appalling behaviour but I’m rubbish at finishing relationships and I just came out with it.
“You look like that actress... what’s her name?” said one of the guys. “You know - the blonde one?” “Grace Kelly?” I said. That was certainly the look I’d been going for. “No, no - Rebel Wilson,” he said. “You look very like her.” “Thanks,” I said. “I was hoping I was channelling Grace Kelly.”
I don’t know a great deal about politics: only that Theresa May wears great shoes and Donald Trump is a giant, orange loon-bucket and no one knows how he was elected.
I wanted fries as well, but Juan said that was tacky. Coming from a man in tight leather trousers that finished halfway up his calf, I wasn’t sure whether that was a compliment or an insult.
My Review:
The last thing on earth I need is another addiction, but I fear I have acquired a new one for the cunningly amusing author Bernice Bloom and her wily Adorable Fat Girl series. Mary Brown is an adorable yet outrageous Queen-Sized trouble-magnet and party animal who manages to embroil herself in the oddest of quandaries. While generally well intended, the fallout of her exploits was uproariously comical and kept a smirk on my face throughout, as Mary was nearly unstoppable once she got an idea and a full head of steam, or had been into the gin.
During this adventure, Mary took her hijinx to the high seas and across Europe when offered a free cruise to accompany her travel blogging friend who was to chronicle their trip, and being an indiscriminate lover of food, Mary was wildly excited about the free all you can eat buffets. When her friend bailed at the last minute, she made Mary promise to secretly provide the blog entries to ensure more free trips. Free cruises for blogging? Where do I sign up?
Mary made fast friends on the ship and became particularly fascinated and obsessed with the tale unfolding from her ninety-year-old dinner table-mate, Frank, and eagerly listened to fragments of his tale until his nurse/companion whisked him away each night. Frank was making the voyage for a specific purpose, for which Mary just had to insert herself. Once they reached Sicily, Mary sprang into action and assembled a rag-tag crew for their expedition to locate a cottage and make amends for Frank’s seventy-year-old regret. I adored the various storylines, loved the quirky and captivating characters, and was beguiled by Ms. Bloom’s colorful and highly amusing writing style. I am hopelessly addicted. More Fat Girl, please!
Madcap, wacky, with a surprising story within a story, this is a piece of pure escapism that is absolutely wonderful. As a massive cruise fan, as well as a rather full figured lady, I just knew I had to read this.
Ok, so I clearly differ from Mary Brown in one way, I don't eat everything in sight at a buffet, but I've also never had the series of adventures she had had from just one cruise.
The cast of characters in this are great and I especially loved the Spanish dancer Juan Pedro who adds an extra level of energy to the book.
However it is Frank's story that will stay with me, who is on the cruise purely to lay some wartime ghosts to rest, and Mary hears all about the story over a series of evenings, but I will leave you to find that out for yourselves.
This is the fourth of the books in this series that I have read and I am very eager to buy the rest and start reading them as its pure genius. This was a standalone story, and really is an enjoyable way to get a snapshot of a cruise holiday with someone who gets herself into some rather unusual situations. Highly recommend this.
I met and fell in love with Mary in Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl. She is just an absolutely fabulous character and was so good to catch up with her again. You don’t have to have read any of the other books in the series as it easily works well as a stand alone as Mary is in totally new surroundings with all new friends.
One thing you should know about Mary is that nothing ever seems to go to plan. Her life is filled with chaos and hilarious predicaments. Mary is like most of us. She loves her food and finding herself on a cruise with the most delicious foods and all you can eat buffets is just a dream come true. I love how Mary has so much confidence. In fact I envied her. To go on a cruise on her own not knowing anyone. I couldn’t think of anything worse. Mary though takes it in her stride and it isn’t long before she meets a variety of people. My favourites had to be Juan and Frank.
Frank is just the sweetest old man whose life story I was just as eager as Mary to hear. It actually made for some emotional reading and it just fitted into the over all story so perfectly.
Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl is just THE most heartwarming, funny and emotional read. It’s great to have a more real life heroine for a change who doesn’t have the perfect figure or any hang ups. If you want a realistic, laugh out loud and entertaining read, then you really need to read these fabulous books by Bernice Bloom.
My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
This is one fun packed novella. Mary Brown is hilarious! Her shenanigans will crack you up and leave you wondering… but how?!
Mary is ready to brave the high seas on a free cruise with her best friend Dawn, who’ll be blogging about it in exchange. But Mary ends up sans Dawn and fully responsible for sharing the wonders of the cruise with Dawn’s followers. Our full-figured heroine manages to find herself in the middle of both the scheduled and unscheduled entertainment.
Between ogling the handsome Captain, fully enjoying the buffet and drinks specials and hiding from a former boyfriend, Mary still finds time to befriend charming nonagenarian World War II survivor, Frank and a high maintenance Spanish dancer named Juan Pedro.
I think most of the meat of the story actually surrounds Frank’s tale and the mission he is on to honour his, now passed on, loved ones. Frank’s tale is cleverly interspersed throughout Mary’s adventures and is the impetus for a mini-jaunt across Italy. His tale is sweet and well-explained. I do wish there was more of a story for Mary herself. That said, she gets into enough mischief for the reader to fully understand who she is.
The cruise setting is nicely described and the European ports of call provide a beautiful backdrop.
This novella is part of an entire series featuring Mary Brown. It’s a super quick, funny read. Try it.
What a delight to be back in Mary Brown’s life again! Still battling her weight, Mary’s personality is even bigger than her dress size. This time we follow her hi-jinks both on a cruise ship and on many trips ashore.
Mary is looking forward to catching up when her friend Dawn issues an invitation to join her on a ‘freebie’ cruise. Little did she know just how adventurous a holiday it would turn out to be! Being welcomed on board by a sexy Captain in his whites bolsters Mary’s confidence. The magnificent food which cruises are renowned for is hard to resist – and that means even more tricky for Mary than others sailing .. and, naturally where she’s concerned, there are some unexpected occurrences.
With the very touching story of war veteran Frank entwined with Mary’s other capers, this is not just a laugh-out-loud read but one which will have you wiping away a tear too. Well written and very entertaining, this is definitely another by Bernice Bloom to be recommended. Bring on the next …
My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing my copy via NetGalley. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
This is the fourth book that I have read in the Adorable Fat Girl series in just over a day and I would probably say that is it my favourite - it had me laughing out loud in places and I can certainly see a LOT of the things I do in Mary's actions.
This was definitely a brilliant way to pass a couple of hours and I am delighted that I was introduced to this series!! Honestly if you are looking for a genuinely funny, short read, this is definitely one for you, Mary is a real character in more ways than one and I couldn't help but love her!! 5 stars from me for this one!!
This is the first book I’ve read from Bernice Bloom’s popular Adorable Fat Girl Series. Unfortunately, it’s the only book I’ll read from the series.
As a plus-size female, I wanted to love the story—ready for a smart, snarky heroine I could cheer for; someone who despite their ongoing battle with weight still had the confidence to meet life head-on; someone other obese persons could emulate.
That’s not the story I found here.
To me, Mary Brown isn’t the woman with a rampant sweet tooth, a love affair with carbs, and an aversion to working out. She has an eating disorder. Her plans revolve around food. She gorges herself while preparing her plate. She’s irritable when she can’t eat with wild abandon.
Even if I could suspend ALL belief that Mary lived in a world where everyone she met was kind and accepting and a candidate to be a friend for life, it wouldn’t change the fact I don’t like Mary. Other than disapproving looks from a couple of sales clerk early in the story, there’s no offensive, uncouth character intent on picking at Mary’s self-esteem… because Mary handles that quite well herself. Her descriptions of herself are unflattering, and not in a “hey, I don’t take myself too seriously” kind of way. It’s more, “I’m pathetic, but a good person for the most part.”
Again, this is the only book from the series I’ve read and I’m not sure who Mary is supposed to be—the jolly fat person… because all fat people are jolly *eye roll*; the confident, self-assured woman living life on her on terms; or the hapless female always ending up one ridiculous situation after another? Her first night on the cruise, Mary drinks to excess and can’t remember anything. Pretty sure I missed the Ha-Ha about that.
In addition to the cruise itself, Mary was surrounded by mini-plots—Simon, Frank and Janette, and of course, no Dawn.
The whole no-Dawn thing? Silly and predictable.
Simon may very well have been the biggest tool known to man, but I wouldn’t know that based on this story. All I know is the incredible tale Mary told him to break up with him made her seem even more shallow and unlikable. I felt sorry for him. The lie she’s told Simon and the lie about Dawn should be sins to atone for…in some Mary Brown-way, but instead she blurts them out to virtual strangers and everyone has a good laugh because Mary is just so doggone adorable–not.
Frank and Janette? My heart broke for 96-year-old-vet, Frank’s story and I applauded his last “mission” … right up until boardings were missed and a job was put in jeopardy. Fun Fact: the only time Mary isn’t binge-eating or drinking too much is when she’s focused on helping Frank.
Juan was probably the smartest person in the story, but he was also the most outrageous stereotype. Pity.
I’ve read many stories where I didn’t care for the protagonist—or any of the characters—yet, I enjoyed the plot and its journey to a satisfying ending. This ending felt rushed with too many loose ends haphazardly tied together.
The cover has changed since I read Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl. The new cover (top) is very nice. The old cover (bottom) gave me a WTH-moment. Where’s the fat girl?
I know many readers find Mary Brown adorable… but I just find her annoying.
Mary Brown is: THE ADORABLE FAT GIRL. She may be fat, but that is only one small part of who she is. In this installment of her life's journeys, Mary has been invited along on a Mediterranean cruise. Her friend Dawn is a blogger and has been given a free cruise for two in exchange for being featured on her blog.
A FREE 20 day Mediterranean cruise. Who could possibly resist? Not Mary. She is as excited as a toddler receiving its first ice cream cone. Of course, the "Eat-All-You-Can Buffet" is a huge bonus.
When boarding the ship, Mary meets the gorgeous Captain of the Angel of the Seas - Will Homarus. He is so strikingly gorgeous that Mary thinks to herself; "I knew instantly that I would have to keep right away from this guy when I'd had a few glasses of wine or I'd be wrapping my legs round his neck and asking him to marry me."
Mary's first night on the ship passes in a blur and when she wakes up in the morning she cannot remember what she did the night before. But, she learns a bit about it in the morning when one of the men sharing her table says: "Yes, the captain was telling that you were performing YMCA last night and doing high kicks to New York, New York. You were quite the party animal by the sound of it...The captain said your Elvis impersonation was one of the best he'd ever seen."
I laughed out loud at this.
I do not want to give too much more away because I am excited to let readers discover all the hilarious hijinks when they read this book. It is filled with colorful characters, wondrous scenery and is. incredibly hilarious.
I rate this book as 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I highly recommend it. This would be the perfect beach read or even a winter weekend read to remind readers that summer is coming.

Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl By Bernice Bloom 4 stars Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Book Blog
After reading and laughing my way through Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl I couldn’t wait to see what would await me in the next instalment of Mary’s story and this one was just as funny! I think I was laughing within the first few pages, especially the letters that she sent to the Captain before setting sail! I loved the authors detail in this story and truly felt like I was on the cruise with Mary – I actually think I would love to go cruising with Mary!! The scenery was described really well! I was laughing out loud at Mary’s antics on the first night! She really is an adorable person! I loved Frank and finding out his story – I could tell that Mary had really formed a bond with the lovely older gentleman. Overall another hilarious instalment in Mary’s story – I can’t wait to read more from Bernice Bloom in the future!
Another amazing laugh out loud story by the amazing Bernice Bloom. In this story, you get another dose of the adorable Mary Brown and you will not be disappointed. She takes the free pass to sail around the Mediterranean for 20 days and of course, she can't forget about the all-you-can-eat buffet.
She meets some of the greatest people especially 96-year-old war veteran Frank. He was so much fun to read about and I couldn't get enough. Mary gets herself into all kinds of fun while on this trip and it's too hard to resist putting it down. I loved every part of this book, and you will too! Plus, if you struggle with your weight just like I do, this book will make you love yourself, especially on a very fun vacation!
So, do me a favor if you loved Diary of an Adorable Fat girl as much as I did, then you will love Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl just as much.
Bernice Bloom has done it again with Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl.
This time, Mary Brown is off on a thrilling cruise, as the guest of her blogger friend, Dawn. Dawn, however, ends up cancelling her cruise, leaving Mary alone on the ship, with an all-you-can-eat buffet disaster waiting to happen.
I really loved Bloom’s tale of Frank, the war hero and the focus on his story, told through Mary’s blogging exploits. She has to cover for Dawn, of course.
I wasn’t overly fond of Mary’s tendency to swoon over the captain – especially knowing that she had left loyal, loving Ted at home. But then again, I suppose men in uniform are just generally irresistibly appealing.
Overall, a lovely, warm-hearted story that showed that the only thing that out-weighed Mary’s tendency to overeat, was the size of her heart.
This cruise was fun. And the adorable fat girl is cuter and more fun in this edition of her stories. Invited by her friend Dawn to go on a cruise, Mary is all thrilled. But when Dawn wanted her to pretend that she had joined the trip, and blog about it instead of her, Mary's story gets a larger audience. The incredible story of war veteran Frank becomes the highlight of the cruise. The vivacious dancer Juan, the heroic captain and the rest of the passengers on the trip become Mary's fans in no time. Its a fun read...
All the books in the series about an adorable fat girl called Mary Brown have been very witty, I have enjoyed a fair few laugh out loud moments too. Very light, East reading but most enjoyable and as a bit of a fat girl myself can relate to all of Mary's akward moments
“…So, there we were then… an old man in an ancient suit, a nurse in a brown dress, a fat lady in sandals that were hurting her feet and a spruced up Spanish dancer- all standing on the quayside with no provisions and no luggage while the ship they were meant to be sailed away .”
Love all the books in the series and this one was definitely worth five star's. Very funny in places and although sad in others it is definitely worth five stars.
This was book was amazing. I bet there won’t be a dry eye when you read this. Mary has such a heart of gold & sticking around to help Frank well how much people would do that, especially when their on a cruise.
Yet another fab edition of the fat girl series. This had some rather lovely moments, especially in relation to Frank's story running alongside Mary's inevitable moments of hilarity. Looking forward to the next one already!
Brilliant, funny honest story. Mary is an amazing character and takes you on some heartwarming adventures. Just funny easy reading, can't wait for the next one.
