[1965, Lisboa] Has a degree in Film Directing from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema - ESTC). He taught at Ar.Co from 2005 to 2010 in the Illustration/ Comic strip department, and lectured at the Porto School of Art – Guimarães branch (ESAP/Guimarães (Escola Superior Artística do Porto - Pólo de Guimarães) between 2006 and 2008, where he coordinated the country’s first Master’s degree in Illustration. His work with comic books began at LX Comics magazine in the early 90s. He was an illustrator for the weekly newspaper Expresso and has had illustrations published in several newspapers: Público, Le Monde (France), O Independente and I newspaper. His published comic books include: História de Lisboa, O Diário de K., Solo e Selva!!! In the field of animation, he worked between 2006 and 2018 as a director and author of animated film, during which time he was awarded four consecutive grants by the ICA for short film projects. With “Pássaros/Birds”, he won the Restart award for best director of a Portuguese short film at the Indie Lisboa Festival 2009. He directed another animated short "Sanguetinta/Bloodink", which premiered at the Vila do Conde Short Film Festival. The third financial support he received from the ICA was in 2011 for a 15- minute animation "Chatear-me-ia morrer tão joveeeeem.../It would piss me of to die so yoooooung", produced by Animais; the film went on to win awards at several festivals. He directed his most recent film in 2018, "ÀTona/Afloat", produced by Animais. He currently runs a comic book publishing company, UMBRA.
Ktoś tu chyba dodał kilka znaczeń, których tej opowieści brakuje. Miejscami z kadrów przeziera głębsza refleksja, ale wszystko jest tak chaotyczne i trudne w rozwikłaniu, że dla mnie ostatecznie ten komiks był nieczytelny, zarówno w warstwie treści, jak i samych rysunków. Not my cup of tea.
Powieść graficzna to wizualne medium, w którym obraz powinien uzupełniać treść. Kreska Selwy jest niestety tak bardzo wystylizowan, że aż nieczytelna. Nie wiem czy przekaz zaginął w tłumaczeniu, czy jest zbyt zawikłany, ale ja tu fabuły za bardzo nie widzę. Może komuś innemu się spodoba.
Muito engraçado. Uma história influenciada por vários elementos que existiram também na minha juventude. Está lá tudo! Os "kits" dos aviões em plástico, as tintas Humbrol, os soldados Airfix, o kiosk das revistas de BD, as histórias das revistas Tintin, Mundo de Aventuras, Falcão, etc... Boa dinâmica no desenvolvimento da história. Recomendo para uma leitura descontraída.
Abranches traduz, sem nostalgias banais, a visão fantasista da infância. Toca nas iconografias de toda uma vertente da Banda Desenhada. Introduz contextos meta-ficcionais, entre referências diretas à técnica narrativa em BD ou a dicotomia entre a realidade histórica e sangrenta da guerra versus as suas representações simplistas na cultura popular. There are plenty of gaps in this story, and if you were one of those little boys, you’ll know how to fill them. It felt good to be there again for a while.
