Christmas at Star Inn

Rate this book
In classic romance style, these great authors give readers a real holiday treat with three novellas set at the beautiful Star Inn, an iconic B&B tucked at the base of Mount Hood in Oregon. "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Can a tree-hugging activist and lumbermill owner find love? Two bad things happened to Sally Cartwright that week. Three if she counted the pink slip received at the Home and Family magazine’s annual Christmas party. But nothing was worse than plowing into a snowbank and being stuck in a town she swore never to see again. A town she once called home. Now she must spend the long cold night in the car or follow the bright shining star through the woods to the old Star Inn. She chooses the inn and that’s where her troubles really begin… Lumbermill owner, Rick Rennick is in no mood for Christmas cheer. Having recently buried his father, he’s still trying to sort out the financial mess left behind. Unless Rick comes up with a miracle, the mill run by the family for generations is about to shut down for good. That would put a lot of men out of work and impact the future of the town. If things aren’t bad enough he’s now stuck at the old Star Inn waiting for the road back to his cabin to reopen. His luck takes another turn for the worse when he suddenly comes face to face with the past he’d sooner forget. For unless he’s seeing things the only woman he’s ever loved is standing in front of the inn’s blazing fire trying to get warm. How is it possible that one chance meeting could stir up so many old memories? Both Rick and Sally regret what happened between them, but his family lumberyard clashes with her tree-hugging ways and neither are willing to try again. It will take the storm of the century, one stage-struck young boy, a certain meddling “angel”—and even a cranky cat—to convince them that in matters of the heart, the second time around is sometimes best. "Silent Night, Star-lit Night" by Ruth Logan Herne Jed Taylor knows how to cowboy up on horseback and in their busy farm & feed store, but when he heard Mia O’Loughlin was planning a trip north the week before Christmas, pregnant and alone, he can't let her make the long trek alone. More Grinch than grace, he flies to the coast, determined to help. It wasn’t supposed to be like this... E.R. nurse and Red Cross emergency responder Mia O’Loughlin was strong, but losing her deployed husband the week before she realized they were expecting their first child knocked her off-kilter. With Christmas and her due date approaching, all she can see is getting back home to Kittitas County for the birth of her child… their child… and seeing her failing Grandpa Joe one last time. Determined to do it on her own, she reluctantly allows Jed to accompany her, mostly because the gruff cowboy showed up and won’t take no for an answer. But when a blizzard grinds their progress to a stop in Northern Oregon, the light from an old inn beckons them into the sweet town of Heywood where old truths open the way to new beginnings for both of them. And in "Room at the Inn for Christmas" by multi-published, award-winning author Mary Welcome to Heywood, Oregon where a lonely woman comes home to find healing, hope and love under the bright light of the town’s old Star Inn this Christmas season. Amanda Star is a high-powered executive in the multi-national Halston hotel chain…then she inherits the Star Inn, her childhood home, from her father. With no time to be away from her job, she impatiently rushes home to list the beautiful old bed and breakfast for sale.

An incredible collection of Christmas stories destined to spark good cheer in every reader.

Do You Hear What I Hear by Margaret Brownley -- A heartwarming reunion romance. Stranded not-so-strangers Sally and Rick are complete opposites. That's the reason they broke up the first time round but there's Christmas magic in the air and an innkeeper named Angel who knows how to wield it. There's tons of rom/com references which were fun to spot, an earnest Nativity play narrator determined to deliver his lines to perfection and tons of melt-your-heart, feel-tinsely-good Christmas moments to warm a reader with Christmas joy.

Silent Night, Star-Lit Night by Ruth Logan Herne -- Well, Ruthy made me cry. Again. What a moving story about coming to grips with the past and having the courage to move forward in hope. Mia and Jed were childhood friends in a small town that treated them very differently. Now Mia's living far away, widowed and pregnant and Jed has come to bring her home for Christmas. Only home means very different things to each of them. Be prepared for some emotional sucker-punches and a sweet Angel innkeeper who provides sanctuary when they need it most. Brimming with holiday goodness.

Room at the Inn for Christmas by Mary Connealy -- Misunderstandings and hurt feelings kept Mandy away from the inn she used to call home. Now she's back with the intention of settling her father's estate and selling the inn -- until a specter from her past gets in the way. Full time rancher and part-time handyman, Cart, had been her best friend once. But distance has definitely not made their hearts grow fonder. Anger and angst abound until a traditional Star Inn Christmas gets in their way. And then peace and goodwill turn into a very satisfying seasonal happily ever after.

Written by 3 different Christian authors, these contemporary Christmas romance novels were a delight to read. Each of the women had left their young loves for various reasons. But when they return to town for various reasons at Christmas time, love reignites for each of them. Very enjoyable Christmas novellas.

Hope and Love

The three stories in this collection touched my heart. The Star Inn is a special place, especially at Christmas time.
I loved the second chances, hope and love in this book. I admit to shedding years while reading Ruth Logan Herne's story. I can't say why without spoilers.
This is another collection that should be made into a movie series.

So I picked this one because of Ms. Herne, but thoroughly enjoyed all the stories found therein! The Star Inn features prominently, of course, and it was fun to see how each couple ended up there and what staying at the inn did for them. Sweet romances, strong character growth, and simply loads of fun makes this anthology a wonderful addition to my Christmastime reading!

I loved the three stories. Each took a piece of the Star Inn's story and wove them into one of the best set of stories. Ruth Herne, Margaret Brownley, and Mary Connealy, put together a great series in one book. they used some of the same characters in each story bu t the intermingling of the new characters with them is great. I enjoyed learning about the Star Inn and it's people. It was a great read. I was reading it at the same time as another one and this one had the best plot and best characters. I will always read a book with Ruth Herne, Margaret Brownly, or Mary Connealy on the cover of the book. I like all three authors and know that they are great writers.

Loved how these three Christmas stories all took place in the same town with the Star Inn as the centerpiece of the setting. All good stories, but especially liked Ruth Logan Herne's story - Silent Night, Star-Lit Night.

Fyi, I almost put the book down, though, because of some format issues (paperback edition) that interrupted the flow of the words at times and also because of some mistakes that should have been caught by careful editing of the book. I won this in a giveaway and would probably not buy a copy as a gift, etc, because of the mistakes in the book.

Three Couples at Star Inn

This book includes three stories, written by three different authors, that each occur during a Christmas at the Star Inn. Each of the three couples shared a history and a past that included painful memories. Like the shining star in the original Christmas, the Star Inn shines as a beacon offering hope and a future. In each of these stories, the couples realize their feelings with some help from their resident Angel.

A very enjoyable collection of contemporary Christmas stories centered around a Bed and Breakfast. This was a fun read for me. My favorite story of the set was Ruth's but all were lovely. Great Christmas read!

Christmas at Star Inn

I enjoyed each of the 3 stories. They were light reading. I did not like the fact that all three had grammatical errors, especially the first one.
