In Love

Rate this book

E neanche i suoi capelli.

I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Kara doesn't have time for boys. She is working as much as she can to help her dad. They are not poor but their economical situation could be better. And she is at college, too.
One day, her brother hits a motorbike and runs away. So, to save him from having problems with the insurance company, she makes an offer to the owner of the motorbike. She will fix it and she will drive him around while the bike is being fixed.
Easy, right? well,... no. Because the owner of the bike is Cameron. He is hot and intriguing. And he is attracted to her. Could Kara resist him?
The story is ok. Although it's a little bit slow at the beginning. And I would have loved to know how the story goes on...

My days of teenage angst are long gone that I had trouble relating to the characters. Kara’s stubbornness and hot-headedness got really old really fast, and her cold-hot-cold-hot attitude drove me nuts. But at least Kara is not TSTL kind of character, for which I am very thankful about.

I think had I been 20 years younger I would have enjoyed the story more because for a teen/young adult story, it really isn’t bad. Kara and Cam have a good chemistry and their story and relationship are believable enough.

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the online copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I had extremely low expectations going into this because even by reading the back cover I could tell I wouldn't like it. I read it despite that because a friend lent this to me and I wanted to read it because of her. Even with my low expectations, I was disappointed and absolutely right about not liking this.

This is probably the most cliché book I have ever read, written like bad fanfiction which is hardly surprising considering this was originally written on Wattpad. And it shows. All the components of a really cliché, badly written fanfiction on Wattpad are in this.

1. Badboy with a dark past. Check.
2. Girl that is inexplicably drawn to him. Check.
3. Unnecessary drama. Check.
4. A kind of love triangle (but not really). Check.
5. Communication issues between the main characters. Check.

This has all the ingredients to fail and that it does. The writing is lazy at times. Kara, the main girl, has a best friend but she is in exactly three scenes. She apparently has some issues of her own but they're never explored further. It's obvious that she's just there so Kara has a friend. Kara also talks about a mysterious childhood friend but we never find out where he is or what happened to him and he served no purpose.

The lazy writing also applies to Cameron's mother. We are led to believe that she fucks shit up whenever she returns to Cameron's life and causes trouble, but when she actually turns up, she is in one chapter, does absolutely nothing and then we find out that she just left. THIS IS SO UNNECESSARY AND LAZY AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!

The romance is probably the worst thing about this. There is zero development. Cameron and Kara both are somehow drawn to each other and just know that they should be together or something. Cameron essentially tries to stalk Kara after he sees for the first time. Kara was also talking about falling in love with Cameron after they'd known each other for LESS THAN A WEEK! Also also, I feel like Kara forgave Cameron too easily after he just fucked off for three weeks. He didn't exactly do much to earn her forgiveness, but I guess she gave him the benefit of the doubt or whatever.

One last thing because I am sick of writing this review: Cameron is an asshole. He told Kara she's not like other girls and oh my god I am tired of this trope can it end??? He also said that men and women can't be friends because "men don't generally hang around with women who won't have sex with them." I just... wow. I don't even know what to say to that than fuck off with that bullshit.

Unless it isn't already clear, I do not recommend this. Save yourself and don't read it. Ever.

Kara was unusual in that she had a lot riding on her shoulders and at such a young age. Kara had to grow up earlier than most of us and was determined to help her family. I thought Cam’s nickname of Spitfire fit her perfectly. While he pursued her, she didn’t have the time for love and hate seemed to come out - except it wasn’t hate. Their banter between themselves was funny and I really enjoyed how Isabelle told their story.

«So badare a me stessa.»
«Lo so. So bene che sei in grado. Ma riuscirai a difenderti anche da me?»

I loved Kara and Cameron as characters. They were perfect for each other. I can't wait to read more from Isabelle Ronin in the future. A five star read. The storyline was very addicting.

This is an amazing book. It will make you laugh, cry, and give you incredible false hope for finding a guy like Cam. I promise you this is worth taking the time to read because I have read it more than one time and it has absolutely changed my life. This author does not disappoint. If you chose to read this book, good luck and happy reading.
