A time of change has come to the world. The great nations are meeting to decide the fate of all at the far off island city of Altex. The powerful, the power hungry, and those who once had power will vie for control, and they will learn that their existence is just one facet of the true struggle taking place around them.

Two men, as far apart as it is possible to get, will be forced to this place by circumstances beyond their control.

Eldon Demicrus, a wandering scholar, steams north on a great locomotive, driven by duty back to his abandoned home, his dread growing by the mile.
Stathen Keldridge, Sheriff of a frontier town, has his life upended by the arrival of strangers, while tragedy catches him up in a whirlwind.

Two men, two paths, one endpoint. Their fates bound by chains.

I was pulled into the story at the very beginning

Usually I do not enjoy books which seem to be about religious and political strife among a variety of people- however this book captivated me from the beginning. I feel in love immediately with the heroes and heroines of the story. I was devastated anytime one of them fell in the fight. I also really enjoyed the world the author created and the way he wove all the different stories into an epic single story. This book was not predictable at all and I loved it. I can't wait until the next book in the series comes out.
I won't this book through a Goodreads giveaway.

(Won this book on Goodreads) Not a fan. I really tried to read this book and give it all I got. I wanted to quit so many times but kept going thinking it may get better. There were too many characters for me to follow and keep track of. One of the biggest pet peeves is the amount of times peoples conversations were cut off, either by some incident happening or someone interrupting.
