An entire city is at stake, so the ladies get busy. When Boulder City is inundated with strange occurrences, the local, state, and federal authorities come up emptyhanded. Motivated by heart-wrenching appeals on Sue's blog, Ellen and her friends offer to help. But the pressure's on like never before when their paranormal investigation is met with scrutiny at every turn, especially when they discover, with the help of a one-hundred-year-old ghost, a sickening coverup from the days of the building of the Hoover Dam."A history buff's delight! This was such an interesting book. I got hooked in straight away and was rooting for the 3 main ladies the whole time. I loved the history that was guiding this story. Haunted twists were awesome. Another great read from the wonderful Eva Pohler."--Shawnae, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★"Our intrepid heroines commit themselves to uncovering the whole truth behind the deaths of the many workers who "died to make the desert bloom". The story is captivating, the characters are fun and relatable, and the underlying mission of these wonderful ladies to help all people to the best of their abilities, regardless of whether they are living or long dead, is uplifting. I will definitely be on board for their next adventure."--txdoc, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★"I really enjoyed this book, as I do all of Eva Pohlers' work. Ellen, Tanya & Sue have done it again. Solved the mystery, put things to rights and onto their next adventure. They never give up, even in the face of adversity. These women are true "ghost healers". If you're into the supernatural, mystery and intrigue and feel good endings - the 'Mystery House Series' books are definitely for you!"--Jenny, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★"I loved the entire book, honestly. Pohler creates an engaging group of characters with real flaws that still manage to be great people. The author does a fabulous job to add some spooky stuff in her writing as well as weaving history into her story and make it all a very interesting read. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy a mixture of paranormal activity with a hint of history. The author does a beautiful job telling the story."--Laura Martinez, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★If you can't get enough of Karen White, Heather Graham, Bobbie Holmes, or Jana Deleon, then this "perfect mix of fun and scary" paranormal mystery is for you!

The Haunting of Hoover Dam
By Eva Pohler
The book takes our daring ladies to Hoover Dam. Boulder City is having strange things happening in their community. People are getting deathly ill and seeing their great grandfather's, or grandfather's, ghosts. The three ladies have to figure out why this is happening, how to stop it, how to put the ghost at rest and cross over. Lots of spooky stuff here, lol!
This book really was excellent! Great narration too!

This is another great cozy mystery/ghost story with Ellen, Sue, and Tanya, the trio of women at the centre of the Mystery House Series. When a phantom flu epidemic and ghostly occurrences strikes Boulder City, our three ghost hunting sleuths are called in to see if they can help solve the mystery. This one is not so much about a house (though there is a building involved) but more about occurrences that happened during the building of the Hover Dam itself. This story hooks you from the very start and the relationship between the women is both humorous and endearing. Their personalities compliment one another, and you can see their bond grow stronger with each book. This story entertains you with humour, mystery, suspense, a touch of very interesting history and a splash of supernatural too. The narrator did a great job of bringing out the suspense and humour and kept the women’s voices consistent and recognizable from one audiobook to the next. This is a very enjoyable story and I look forward to seeing what adventures the girls get into in the next book.

Exceptional

What a great book to get away from regular life. I loved the story except for the breakup. Too bad that Brian didn't continue on their journey especially after Paul sent the message that it was ok. I was glad that the dead finally had peace. And it was great that the new hotel had fifty rooms named after the fifty men who died.

The Haunting of Hoover Dam is the fifth entry in the Mystery House series, and while it was definitely a fun and fast listen, there are some things that still annoy me with this series.

First of all, I really appreciated the research that went into this book. Having visited the Hoover Dam and taking an in-depth tour, I learned a lot about the conditions while it was being built, so I really liked how that was included in this book. It seemed like a perfect spot to set a haunted house book as there were so many things the companies did to these people that was atrocious and abusive and was definitely a highlight of this book.

However, I still think the writing is too simplistic and sometimes juvenile. Everything comes way too easily for these women, from money to escaping situations. Any time something happens, let's just call on a ghost to get out of the situation. And now, one of them is dating someone wealthy, so there is that help too. So it's escapist reading for sure. And as investigators, the women sometimes drive me crazy. Will I continue listening to this series? Yes, because I need popcorn reading in between some of the heavy hitting fantasy and non-fiction books that I read and this fits the bill perfectly, kind of like Heather Graham.

Great book to go along with the serices.

If you have read the first four books in the series you are going to love this one about The Haunting of Hoover Dam. You'll learn more history than you may already know about the dam. The ladies embark on another haunting and this time they are dealing with the deaths that happen during the construction of the Hoover Dam. There were 50 men who died that were not taken care of the correct way. The company that was trying to save money rather than pay Workman Comp to those who died at the Dam. These ladies do such amazing work to help people of the different cities that they visit. My favorite ghost they helped this time was in the hotel. I won't tell you what happen but it has a very happy ending for this ghost. I so can't wait for book 6 in the series. Eva Pohler has a wonderful way of telling all her stories with her readers. If you have not read any of her books yet there are some great series to read and you can get all the information for her books via her website. You can also find her on all social media sites.

Each Book as Good as or Better

Wonderful series. Ellen is clearly the lead as we know a lot about her personal life, but not so much the other two ladies. Each have their own personalities and quirks and each contribute to the Ghost Healing. Tanya has been very afraid the last couple books, ever since a ghost attached to her. While the team was able to get the ghost to move on, Tanya has not moved on from the event. Sue is happy, funny, and eats a lot of sweets. I wonder if she is really happy or if that is a cover. Wish I knew more about her personal life. As you can tell, I am fully invested in the characters and want them to be happy. The mystery at Hoover Dam was tragic and affected both the dead and the living. The book had a spectacular ending.

Fantastic Series of Books

This book like the others I read was just fantastic. I am thrilled by the history aspect and the ghosts. These seem to be the things that are make me tic. I relate totally to Ellen from losing my husband far earlier than I wanted to. The feelings she still has for him and the feeling of being controlled by her own doing in her marriage. Not sure I would have let Brian go but I don't think I am or will ever be ready to remarry. Since the next book in the series was the first one I read I will move on to the next in my order! Read these you won't be sorry!

The one thing I really enjoyed about this series is that the historic places all teach something about the history and the characters are realistic. Each of the three ladies have characteristics I relate to and problems I have encountered with my own family. Throughout the series the ladies stick together and have each other's backs. My only complaint is that they use the Ouija board like a direct phone line to the spirits. Other than that, the stories are very interesting and only a little scary. They do not keep me awake at night from fear, but rather from trying to solve the case.

When a phantom flu breaks out in Boulder City, a message on their blog request that the Ghost Healers, Sue, Tanya and Ellen, please come there and help them out. Medical professionals say the flu is psychosomatic, but there are so many victims that seems impossible. After meeting with a couple of victims, and touring the Hoover Dam, the ladies begin to connect the dots and figure out what is really going on.

This is an awesome series!

I love how there's history combined in the ghostly story line. It's hard to put my Kindle down once I start reading. Sometimes I'm reading so fast my eyes can hardly keep up. I always enjoy each ghostly mystery immensely and look forward to each new adventure with the 3 friends, Brian and Kirk!

I appreciated the history used in this one because it's a part of our past that I don't know a lot about. The three investigators still annoy me, and Ellen needs to get over her concerns about Paul (I mean he's been dead for 2 years). As investigators, they drive me up a wall. But the books are fun for me, so I'll keep going and just grit my teeth a lot.

Great read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is the third book of the series and they were all enjoyable. Funny with bit of mystery and three characters of an undermined age having a good time. Can't wait for the next one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially since I live in Las Vegas so I know the Boulder City area well. Also, my name is Tanya so, it's fun to read a book with one of the main characters having the same name as me. A great paranormal read!

A Good read. Don't know if the history is true or not. Or if some might be. It makes you believe is is.

I like the 3 gals and their paranormal investigations….sometimes the writing drifts into juvenile prose, but I can overlook that….

I absolutely loved this series. The trio of women, Tanya, Sue, and Ellen. In the fifth installment of this series the ladies are called upon to help solve a phantom flu epidemic that’s going on in Boulder City. Strange things are happening in the town and the ladies are on a mission to solve the mystery. I was hooked from the beginning and I found the history of the Hoover Dam to be very interesting. The author does a fabulous job to add some spooky stuff in her writing as well as weaving history into her story and make it all a very interesting read. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy a mixture of paranormal activity with a hint of history. The author does a beautiful job telling the story.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Debbie Andreen did a fabulous job!! Patiently waiting for the next audiobook to see what trouble the girls get themselves into next!!

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book! This is book 5 in the series, and can be read as a stand alone, but you will get so much more if you read them in order!

Ellen and her friends never have a dull moment. Uncovering secrets of the past is what these ladies seem to do best! The history aspect is great and keeps my interest.

They died to make the desert bloom!

In this 5th installment of the Mystery House Series, author Eva Pohler, once again weaves her unique blend of literary magic to produce a spellbinding story incorporating historical fact, clean romance, and paranormal intrigue. While the story could be enjoyed as a standalone, I think the fullest appreciation will be had by those who have read the whole series. The delightful main characters, Ellen, Sue, and Tanya evolve throughout the course of the series in terms of their personal lives as well as their professional endeavors as paranormal investigators and ghost healers. This story has them traveling to the Silver State (Nevada) to probe the possible paranormal etiology of a mysterious illness that has left medical experts baffled. Their research uncovers a link to the Hoover dam and those who died during its construction. While the dam represents an amazing architectural achievement, the working conditions and corporate greed cast an ugly shadow over the project. Our intrepid heroines commit themselves to uncovering the whole truth behind the deaths of the many workers who “died to make the desert bloom”. The story is captivating, the characters are fun and relatable, and the underlying mission of these wonderful ladies to help all people to the best of their abilities, regardless of whether they are living or long dead, is uplifting. I will definitely be on board for their next adventure.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that the narrator, Debbie Andreen, gives an excellent performance in the audiobook version of this story. She has a wonderfully pleasing voice and the ability to make the characters and the story come alive.

I was provided with a copy of the audiobook version of this story by the author and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

The Haunting of Hoover Dam by Eva Pohler is about Ellen, Sue, and Tanya going to Boulder City because the city is filled with strange occurrences. I love the relationship between the characters. My favorite character is Sue because she is funny. Overall, this book is amazing.
