Hmmmmm no rating since I dnf at the halfway mark:( It’s too bad because it started off good and had me intrigued but then lost its gusto immediately unfortunately! A lot of inner thoughts and very wordy as I prefer a lot more actual talking amongst my couple but that was very minor. Now what I didn’t care for was the turn these two took after their first unofficial dinner date. I just didn’t end up liking the characters, found the son to talk WAY older than what he was and that alone very early on was a red flag but the way Carter behaved at that first dinner and the brazen way she was with her inquiry just totally turned me off! I kept going begrudgingly because I hate to dnf but I finally threw my hands up and tapped out!
Maybe it’s a me thing but the storyline esp the execution incl both characters were a no for me this time!

First I have to say that this is the first book I have read by this author and I just loved it! I know some people didn't like it because it was over the top in the beginning but I thought it was well played out for a single dad who has enemies and is willing to do anything to protect his son. His son is his life and no matter what or who comes into their lives Carter will protect their hearts so they do not get hurt again.
Carter is a single father who loves raising his son Max. He is very protective of him and wants to give him the world. Then his son needs a tutor and the new girl in town is willing to tutor Max. Only Max starts to care about Ryan and so does Carter. There is something about her that makes Carter want more from his life. She gives him the one thing he lost years ago and that is hope.
But Carter has enemies because of his previous job and they are out to get him but he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Ryan and Max. Soon Carter is falling in love with Ryan and he wants her to be a part of his and Max's life. This story has so much in it that I loved reading it and was anticipating what was going to happen next. I have to say that this is a good romance novel so if you love romance than give it a go because you will fall in love with Carter and Max!
Way over the top and unbelievable. Unrealistic Interactions and banter with the MC’s. At the 54% mark I got bored and started skimming. At the 67% mark I just couldn’t do it anymore. First book by this author.
I wanted to like this book. I did. But god, was thinking written. I'm not a big fan of insta -love, but when it's well executed, it can actually be pretty good. This was not well executed. The story was rushed, all over the place, and just didn't make sense. The premise seemed interesting, but the execution just plain sucked. The characters acted pretty irrationally most of the time and were generally not compelling or interesting. The way the characters spoke was especially frustrating to me because it just didn't seem realistic or, frankly, believable. There's also typos galore. God, that's annoying. All of this made me feel so removed from the story. It was almost unbearable. Don't waste your time for this freebie. Not worth he effort.
This book came as a recommendation on Facebook. When I read the blurb, I was intrigued enough to add it to my “books to read” list which houses all the Kindle Unlimited books I run across during my reading journey.
Honestly, I was expecting a lot more from the book than I received. The whole story feels very rushed and over-exaggerated. The concept of a single dad is not lost on me. I love me a good Single Dad Romance, but this one fell short for me.
The beginning did hook me in. I felt myself liking Carter and wanting to know more about his demons. Ryan comes into the picture and she’s got some demons of her own, though they are nothing compared to Carters. Once they get going, it feels so rushed that I feel lost and confused by the entire storyline. The constant back and forth was driving me to the point where I almost just stopped mid-way through, but that’s not the kind of reader I am. If I start a book, my ultimate goal is to read it.
The details were lacking so I was finding that my mind was wandering off trying to picture things. I need details in a book. I NEED THEM. The steamy scene added some detail but that was pretty much it for the details I was looking for.
All in all, the story has a lot of potential but the rush of it made me excited that it was ending and I could move on to the next book in my list.
Let it be known that Carter was an asshole. Ryan was fine I guess but she needed to stick up for herself more. She just lets Carter walk all over her with his hot and cold mood swings.
There is a miscommunication trope in this book which I wasn’t a fan of. Carter made assumptions and refused to talk it out like an adult. He also had some weird hangups about journalists even though one of his friends, is, in fact, a journalist…? I understand he had his reasons for being mad (despite Ryan showing absolutely zero evidence of trying to manipulate him for a stupid story) but instead of calmly explaining why he is upset, he proceeds to kick Ryan out, slam the door in her face, and ignore her. Grow up my dude! He also referred to Ryan as a bitch in his head and honestly he really irked me for about 80% of this book.
His kid Max was adorable though and their interactions are some of Carter’s only likable dialogue. Max was clearly the emotionally mature one in that household even though he was only seven years old.
Side note: Can we talk about how Ryan addressed her grief about my dead mother and was sobbing her eyes out to Carter, then almost immediately after, was going to get physical for the first time with him?? AND the only reason they didn’t go further was because of the rising tide…? I mean, nothing screams “ravish me” like being emotionally drained after talking about a dead relative! The timing just felt icky

Ryan is a reporter/teacher moved to a small town to start over. She meets Max and Carter, a single dad and son. But it seems that Carter has some serious secrets of his own that might put them all in danger. This is a special ops guy goes civilian and meets his true love story. Of course his shady past is going to haunt them and put them in danger.
What I like: some twists and turns to the story not expected. Interesting minor characters. What I don’t like: lots of unsaid story between characters and immediate response to physical attraction-no build up. Sex without a condom or talk.
This book has so much promise. I jumped in after reading some of the reviews...the end result; I finished it to see if it got better. First off, I don’t care how hot a guy is, you me horribly not once, not twice but 3-times and then I’m all hot and bothered: don’t think so. Absolutely love the little boy Max; except his character is too adult for his age. Then in the end, it was like we need to wrap up this journey so let’s just end it. Struggled to even give it the 2-star review, but figured since I’d finished it, I’d give it that extra nudge. I am interested in the next book though...hoping it’s better.
*4 1/2 star rating* This was so cute, it was awesome! I absolutely loved the ending! I think it was my favorite part, really. Not sure why it had any reviews lower than a solid 4. It was entertaining and delicious! Ok, so there were some not favorable moments, but it was still a fun read. Yes, I was annoyed that Ryan was gullible and weak on forgiving and letting things slide pretty quickly, but she made up for it when it mattered most. And Carter might've been annoying on some things but the man is delicious! My brain would short circuit as well! Anyways, really, truly enjoyed this. It was a really good read.
This was a fantastic and well-written book which I enjoyed reading very much. Carter certainly had his demons, giving him the reasons not to get involved with Ryan. But, love ruled. He couldn't stay away. I totally loved Ryan's strength and the way she stood by Carter and Max. She was the perfect fit for both of them. This book had angst, intrigue, lots of love, and an HEA that made it a very worthwhile read. Once you start, you won't be able to put it down till the last page. Definitely worth a one-click!
3.5 stars. Free read. If you can push through the first half which is a bit OTT, typical single dad not wanting another woman in his or his sons life, a bit of immaturity by the supposed two adults and a very sad background story, you will enjoy the last half once it picks up pace. Loved Max the son and the Millers. Once Connor got his head on straight and realised what Ryan meant to him and went into Seal mode I quite liked him. Probably won’t read it again but enjoyable enough for a contemporary romance.
The moment Carter met Ryan, sparks flew for both of them. Carter has a son Max and the small town they live in, knows that Carter keeps to himself. The reason has to do with his SEAL days and every day is a risk for him and his son. Ryan was tired of her journalist job taking over her life so she moved away to a small town for a peaceful living as a teachers aide. Ryan and Carter both seeking peace but found each other and their life becomes anything but peaceful. Great story and great characters!!
Have you ever hated a cover but loved a book? I almost didn’t get this book simply because the cover was not my thing but then I saw snippets of the story in ads and knew I had to read it and I am so glad that I did. I loved every minute of Ryan and Carters story. Even the parts where Carter drove me insane with jumping to conclusions but knowing the back story I understood why. Ryan was an amazing heroine who had a backbone and stood strong despite all that was Carter... and Max... dear sweet Max made this story. That little boy steals your heart from the first scene he is in!
He saw things during his service, tried to do the right thing but his team paid for it with their lives. He has to protect his son in every way! She's an ex-reporter who left her job to get a fresh start after a terrible wake-up call. Will he let her in? Is she really just wanting a fresh start? Will they survive the threat? Read and find out!
Carter gave me whiplash with his "I want her but I can't have her" to "I can't stay away" to "Betrayer!" to "I believe you and love you" and it was ridiculous. And Ryan is stupid with her "I know you say we're in mortal peril but I have to get ready for work now". WTAF?
Also, what the hell happened to the dead guy on Ryan's front porch? Carter just breaks the guy's neck and no one ever mentions him again? Yeah....
It took me way too long to read this because I did not like either the hero or the heroine. They were really self centered and impossible to like for the first 1/2 of the book. Over all ok, but it's really hard to read a book with you don't like the characters- that said they got to the point where they were ok, but it was a struggle getting there. Otherwise, good grammar and editing. And I did like the Millers.
Maybe someone like Ryan is exactly what I need. Someone who can help me bury the past and leave it where it belongs.
We need each other. I know it instinctively. Ryan is the other half of me, the thing that’s been missing in my life for as long as I can remember.
This was an insta attraction / love. Carter is a single dad, and his son Max was comic relief in the form of the cutest little boy who says the funniest things. This was action packed with spice. I enjoyed it.
This book was a little over the topaz one point I felt the author has saw to many action romance movies. Some of the things in the book didn’t make make sense. Max, Carter son is adorable I feel he is the next Gordon Ramsey kid chef. All he wants his is dad to be happy, however Carter likes to send mix messages to Ryan.
This book is definitely a little different. The love story is unbelievable with how easily they fall instantly in love and the forgiveness being given too easily.
With how many plot holes there were I felt I couldn’t give any more than 3 stars.
Interesting and well written, held my interest til the end. Didn't care for Carter in the beginning but reading further changed my mind. He was a great dad to Max and realised Ryan wasn't out to sell him out to the press.
Loved this book!!! Very well written and a page turner! I would recommend all my reading buddies to read this book. The storyline was cute and unpredictable! I will definitely be looking to read more by this author as this was my first!
I really enjoyed the story of Carter and Ryan. Little Max was totally adorable, also. The story had a little bit of action mixed with passion and laughs. The author did a really good job with this story.
This book was the perfect amount of suspense heat and chemistry. I loved Max as well. Such a perfect little boy and I loved his character. Would love to see a book of him all grown up. Loved this book
First read from this author. She did an amazing job. I loved how Ryan pulled a joke on Carter in the beginning and watching him trying to figure out if she's joking or not. Both characters were great especially Max.
Love me Like This is a good story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I personally didn't have a deep connection, with the characters, but loved the Alpha side to Carter and the strong side of Ryan (the heroine). There was some twists and turns and it was an page turner of a read! Loved the epilogue!!!
This is a great book. It has a lot of elements that captures everything that goes on. There is love, action, mystery, and will make you cry. I enjoyed following Carter and Ryan's story, it had me crying and needing to know what was going to happen. You can feel their emotions as you read.
It’s a very intense book that involves a lot of things that many would consider heartbreak. I was not all that enamored with the characters, but it was still a very, very well written story with a few parts that were just kind of not realistic.
