“You tortured the male I loved for two decades”

What I love mostly in the BDB series is that the heroes and heroines are less than ideal. And they never had an easy life. They have all suffered somehow and they all have survived and surprisingly they joke about it frequently.

Let's think about it.
●The King himself, Wrath, is blind. He has lost his parents growing up. He blames himself because he did not help them.
●Phury is not whole. He has lost his leg to save his brother. He was made fun of this. Of the fact that he put others before himself. He was also a drug addict and with many psychological problems.
●Zsadist was a sex slave for almost all his life. His skin is marked with slave tattoos that he will never get rid off.
●Visious has been treated horribly by his own father. He was neglected by his mother. For many years he needed pain to function.
●Saxton has suffered the fact that he is gay. He was beaten and neglected by his father. He was betrayed and rejected by his lover.
●John Matthew is mute. He was raped. He grew up without parents as a poor boy. And he has a split personality. He will probably never remember who is truly.
●Tohr has lost his wife and child. He was forced to love someone else. He has lost his best friend. He suffered a huge trauma and he was not allowed by circumstances to kill himself.
●Qhuinn has mismatched eyes and apparently this is a disadvantage because he was thrown out of his home and he was never treated like a real son.
●His brother, Luchas, was tortured by lessers for many years. He was placed into a 50 gallon drum filled with black Lesser blood. Now he has lost his leg, the use of a hand and his will to live.
etc. etc. etc.

There are still secrets in America.

So when I started “Prisoner of the Night" I did not know who Duran is, but I was expecting to read about his really tortured, sad past with lots of torturing , neglecting, suffering and obviously his losing his will to live.

And really this used to be Duran's life spiced with his thirst for revenge and his imprisonment for more than 20 years. Until he met Ahmare.

“Show yourself.” She took another step back. “I’m not afraid of you.”

Ward has created two new very strong characters and each one has his/her own sad story to share with us.

Ahmare's brother is about to suffer a fate worse than Duran's. Ahmare has already become a killer for him and now she has to use Duran to find something precious and return it to her brother’s torturer.
Duran will have no objection as long as he can have his revenge for his mother’s murderer. But 21 years as a prisoner have made him the shell of the man he used to be. What I loved about him is that despite his rough manners, he is still so innocent and pure deep inside.

Based on the life of these two characters, an amazing sideline story (to the main BDB story) is unfolded:
-A religious cult under the nose of the King and Scribe Virgin that managed to be secretive for so many years.
-Two new super villains who have already committed the worst crimes again the vampire race and they still remain unpunished.
- A new order of silent soldiers that I have a feeling that they will play a role in future books.

Although there are more than 20 books so far in the BDB universe, this story felt fresh and like a new start. I truly enjoyed it.

Another novella set in the BDB world! I really like that JR Ward is writing these and giving us a glimpse into the lives of “ordinary” vamps who aren’t Brothers. As a warning, parts of this one get pretty intense. Duran has been held captive and tortured for two decades, and there are some pretty graphic descriptions. Our heroine, Ahmere, is AWESOME. She’s on a mission to save someone important to her, and is a baddass in her own right. Plus we meet a collection of side characters in this one who are equally intriguing and have me excited about future novellas

Both Duran and Ahmere have their own missions and various dangers present themselves alng the way. Seeing some of Duran’s psychological wounds and the after-effects was especially interesting. This was one novella where I almost wished it could have been a full-length book, just because then there would have been more time within the book to show Duran’s journey, which after everything he went through, had to be a long progress. And now we wait for “The Savior”!

*warning: there are multiple Dungeons & Dragons references within this review. If you don't want to get a bunch of nerd-cooties, you should probably move along...

Considering this was a novella which means that insta-love HAS to happen, it was pretty decent.

The love story is between Duran, a guy who has spent the last twenty years being tortured in a dungeon, and Ahmare, a vampire girl who is trying to rescue her brother from the Dungeon Master.

Not that kind of Dungeon Master! Besides, those idiots decided to rape and kill the inn keeper who wouldn't let them bring their tamed goblin wolves into the inn, and then rolled a fucking natural 20! I'd bring out the dragon too!
(If anyone at all whatsoever gets this joke, you let me know. The above was a real life example of D&D tomfoolery while I was DMing.)

So, no, this DM is an evil guy who gets off on torturing people and makes sure everyone around him does his evil bidding.

Again, wrong kind of Dungeon Master. But, dammit, those morons insist on poking the fucking bear. I will rain dragon fire down on their asses if they roll to rape one more goblin!

Okay, so maybe I have a little bit of empathy for the Evil Dungeon Master. He probably didn't start evil, but everyone around him was such an idiot that he just grew into it. Maybe he had awesome plans when he first set-up his lair. It was supposed to be a great entertaining journey for his friends, but then they showed up and started fucking with everything and pillaging his stuff and killing his guards.... and suddenly he's the evil villain?

I get it, dude. I get it.
Also, this everyone in this story was saved by Oreos, which totally makes sense. It just proves the thing I have always said:

It was entertaining, but it did not reach me emotionally.

This was too fast. I didn’t get to enjoy an actual romance. The story is all action and suddenly, after 24 hours of meeting, the main characters are in love with each other. I enjoyed reading, I liked the idea, but I needed more.

To me, this story doesn’t belong in the BDB series. It feels more like a spin-off series. But as always happens with this universe’s books, it was nice to read.

I enjoyed this new cast of characters from the world of Jr ward. It was a great storyline with great characters and villians. It's about Duran who has been held captive and torchered by a evil warlord vampire chalen for over 20 years,but when ahmare brings the head of one of his enemies in trade for her brother who is also being held,she's sent to bring back chalen's beloved with the help of duran. Great chemistry and dialogue a great short read.💖💋

This might be the last time I buy a Ward book. Damn it! When will I learn!!

Firstly, why is "BDB" in ()??? It has nothing to do with that! Wrath might have been mentioned a couple of times and that's it!

Secondly, $5.99 for a novella??? Really??? And of course, a full book is priced at $15.99 + tax!! Now. If this was on the level of Lover Awakened I would have paid the money no questions asked. But I fear Ms. Ward peaked at that particular book. And now we're waaaayyyy too many down the line, watered down, messy unintriguing numbness

I might dislike this book slightly less than Tohr's book--Don't get me started with THAT one!

Reading others' reviews (WHY didn't I read them before I bought this???) I'm somewhat mollified to know I'm not alone. The characters were uninteresting, I never could bond with them or care about them. The story line was VERY loosely strung together. I kept trying to skip to the "good parts" only to find there were no good parts to skip to!!

Even the "passion" was not very passionate. Very disappointed that Ward would continue to put out such mediocre work while milking the "money cow" with the BDB.

Never again! I'm done falling for this trap!

Makes me FURIOUS that there were so many better authors out there charging for so much less but unable to get their work out to readers bc we've got the wool pulled over our eyes with this crap.

I should have stopped at Lover Reborn. Biggest let down of the decade.

Learned my lesson tho. True.

This novella is set in the world of the Brotherhood featuring two entirely new characters. Ahmare is seeking to gain her brother’s freedom from Chalen, his brutal captor, forced to comply with demands that stretch her moral limits. Duran is also one of Chalen’s captives, imprisoned for 21 years because he won’t divulge the location of something precious to this heartless leader of a silent force. Ahmare and Duran are made to team up to fulfill the final challenge, both having similar goals but with differing motivations.

There’s no lead up to the action in this story as it ramps up immediately. We learn about Ahmare and Duran through their revelations to each other as they make their way to the secret destination. Duran’s tragic history is heartbreaking and despite the brutality he’s experienced, there’s a sense of innocence about him that tempers the violent aspect of his nature. Ahmare is formidable in her own right and recognizes Duran’s nobility. I was struck by the constant contrasts of good and evil, violence and tenderness, passion and affection. All transitioned at will, making this an emotionally laden story filled with contradictions. And, as Duran’s history is slowly revealed, the discoveries are shocking.

I was happy to get the audio version because Jim Frangione knows how to deliver these stories. It moves at breakneck speed, not reading at all like a short story because so much happened. Ahmare and Duran are always at the center and it was remarkable how well defined they become. There are outcomes that I suspect will impact the Brotherhood and I don’t think we’ve seen the last of these characters. This was such a good story and I’m pleased to have enjoyed yet another novella in the series.

(I received an advance copy from the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review)

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Standalone (Novella) Book 16.5 of Black Dagger Brotherhood series
POV: Third Person
Rating:

Ahmare had an important task to complete. In order to save her brother from a tyrant, she must find what he seek. To do so, she found an unlikely ally in Duran. Both of them had their own personal agendas, but together, they worked for their goals. Unfortunately, success might cost them more than what they’re willing to pay.

Details were bad. Connection was bad. Seeing him as anything other than a tool was bad.

I’m definitely drawn to characters like Duran. With his past, I liked seeing his mentality and adaptability. Ahmare was also thrown into an unfamiliar situation. She overcame the issues with a rational head.

As the grim reality of their “relationship” resonated with him, he thought it was ironic that his version of freedom was about killing another. It wasn’t a safe home, a mate, or even an absence of physical pain.

The story was entertaining. I like reading novellas that are not related to the main BDB storyline to keep the series fresh. However, I wish the Love wasn’t too insta (considering this is a long novella) and the overall story could use a little more intensity.

Prisoner of Night is a story of avenging loved ones. It would appeal to fans of The Black Dagger Brotherhood series and can be read as a complete standalone.

One of my favorite authors, J.R. Ward, released a novella set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. As this is one of my favorite series by her, I was very intrigued to see what this little treat would be like. I’ve always believed in Ward’s writing, but wondered how her writing would fare with short stories. As you know, her books tend to be on the long side, but I’m happy to note that this story definitely fulfill my BDB fan needs nicely.

This book is about Ahmare and Duran, two vampires who had had their fair share of bad luck. Ahmare’s brother has been taken from her and she must to many impossible things in order to get him back. The most challenging is to track down someone with the help of Duran.

Duran has been held captive for twenty-one years and his first chance at escape involves working with Ahmare. The two are very different in the beginning but you can definitely feel the way their love grows with for one another. I like that Ward didn’t make it about instalove, which is what you would normally see in a shorter story. But she takes her time, creating conflict and tension while also building that romance in a believable way.

I really enjoyed this story and I think if you’re a fan of Ward and the BDB series, you’ll want to read it to get your fix. Reading this book makes me excited for the next installment as Ward continues to keep readers on their toes.

Beautiful & tortured Duran so broke my heart. Few authors could do tortured Heroes/heroines? the way JR Ward could. The only difference was how I felt after reading. Torture in books written by other authors only succeeded in driving me away, no more, one and done.

I loved the way Ahmare saved him. Totally deserved five extra stars! If you loved the Shadows in the previous BDB books, there was kick ass Nexi, another Shadow for you to fall in love with. The bonus? This story didn't have just One but Two HEA couples. Not one but two despicable villains. I was in the BDB Heaven reading this (should have been) nightmarish story!

3 Stars!

This wasn’t a horrible read but if your a die hard Black Dagger Brotherhood Fan (like myself) you may be a bit disappointed. The Brotherhood gets a honorable mention but there are no apparences. Sadly, I didn’t find the H&h Ahmare and Duran compelling characters and the storyline was just okay.

All-in-all this was a nice novella till we get more of our beloved Brothers. I LOVED Dearest Ivie so I had high expectations which unfortunately fell a bit short....though I seem to be in the minority here. That said, this was a fast paced read with plenty of action. Happy reading!

A love story in the midst of violence and payback.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I never read any of the other books in the series so I am not sure if I was missing something or not. However, to me, this was a standalone. I had no issues following the story.
This book smacks you in the face soon as you start it. It is raw and gruesome in parts, written with such imagery that you almost want to read it in bits and pieces due to the violence. But it also compels you to never put it down!
It’s a story about vampires, but not a traditional image that we normally would expect. This is a story about the battle of good and evil. A story of right over wrong. A story of love, compassion, and understanding.
It’s a thriller and a romance with incredibly strong, fierce, and insightful characters that make you cringe on one hand and cheer for a well deserved happily ever after on the other hand.
I don’t typically read a lot of paranormal or urban fantasy books so I was intrigued to say the least. There are few authors that can write a love story in the midst of violence and payback well and J.R. Ward is one of the best!
Prisoner of Night by J.R.Ward is an all consuming read that may change the way you feel about paranormal romance. Just be prepared for the raw, gripping description.
As a Black Dagger Brotherhood fan, I’m game for anything that resides in the same world. And as I read the opening pages of Prisoner of Night, I knew I was going to be consumed alive by another dark, raw, compelling story by the master J.R. Ward. Once I began, the outside world ceased to exist for me until I read the final page of this novella – one that reads with the depth of plot and fully-explored characterizations of a full-length book.
Ahmare is on a mission to free her brother from the horrors of evil warlord Chalen’s dungeon. She does the unthinkable in order to fulfill the terms of Chalen’s agreement only to be told it’s not enough to settle her brother’s debt. Chalen charges her with one final challenge - to find and bring back his beloved. Duran has been held captive and brutally tortured in the same dungeon as Admare’s brother for 21 years. Admare and Duran must work together to retrieve the object of Chalen’s desire. It is through their journey and intimate talks together that we learn the depth of both their sad pasts. Duran’s is especially tragic, and my heart bled on the pages as he opened his to Admare. He’s on a mission for revenge while she’s focused on freeing her brother. Is it possible for both to achieve their goal without hurting the other?
There’s no easing into Prisoner of Night as the action is immediate and ongoing in this raw, gutsy novella. The contrasts between good and evil, love and hate, forgiveness and revenge are clearly defined and thought-provoking. All of it swirling together swept me up in a whirlwind of emotion that had me fighting tears as the outcome is unclear until the very end. Prisoner of Night is another knockout in this fantastic series. And I suspect we haven’t heard the last from this couple, along with some outstanding support characters like Shadow Nexi (I hope!). A raw, gritty, Must Read addition to the Black Dagger Brotherhood world! I loved it!
3.5/5 - *** EDIT ***
Gallery is going to lose readers for Ward and the BDB series. Bad advertising and watered down everything.
I’m concerned that this new publisher is watering down everything great about Ward’s work EXCEPT the language. I’m not impressed. Why are there swords instead of daggers on the covers? Why are the covers weird? Why was the book advertised as a Legacy book on the UK cover and a BDB book in the US?! It’s a damn novella in the BDB world. When the author has to go on social media to clarify it’s a story in the BDB world but the Brothers aren’t in it and give page counts because the publisher screwed up that’s BAD!
Gallery is going to kill the BDB franchise. It’s sucks but they don’t know what they are doing with this series beside their trash representation. Anyone see the US cover — that looks like her tongue! Also they are gouging the readers pockets, $5.99 for a novella WTF! Ward is the only author I’d ever pay that much for what should be $3.99 at most.
________________
@bdb.for.life.true is my handle on Instagram, and I want BDB FOR LIFE TRUE to be the way I feel forever about anything BDB, but damn, give me something to hold to, please!
I honestly don’t know how to rate this book. I’m not impressed. And I thought it being twice as long as her other novellas it would have depth to it. It doesn’t. All the depth is in the prologue that everyone hates but I like.
This reads like one of Ward’s many subplots in the main BDB series. For me to care about these characters, any of them they to be way more fleshed out. And I feel like Ward used cheap tricks on her fans. Dragging out who Duran’s dad’s name is or who Chalen’s beloved was — cheesy cheap trick with that whole subplot.
Yeah it has a beginning and an ending and yes not one but two HEA’s but the middle felt like an emaciated mess. For all the time we spent with Ahmare and Duran I really didn’t connect with them as a couple. I felt for Duran until he became “unbroken” basically the hot water scene at the end, then there wasn’t a lot of special about him.
Honestly as a huge Ward fan and probably even bigger Black Dagger Brotherhood ANYTHING fan I’m disappointed. More disappointed than boring Lover Enshrined and more disappointed than some of the mating choices. I’m even more disappointed in this novella than the epic clusterfuck, fandom divider, The Chosen.
If I could give 5 stars for Ward’s unique voice as an author I would. The story and characters, 2. There was more story with Story of Son which is a little over 100 pages than this novella which is around 300 freakin pages!?!
There’s two very vague sex scenes. Nothing like Ward would write in the past or hell the last BDB book, the Thief. V and Jane got down in that book — graphic and hot. This is like watching a sex scene with Vaseline smeared over the lens.
WHY HAS THE WARDENS SMUT BEEN WATERED DOWN?!
I read other PNR authors under the Simon & Schuster umbrella. None of them have graphic smut. I’m sorry but Ward has always come through in that department. Not so with Consumed or this novella. I’m scared for The Savior.
P.S. the stupid #watchoutforthewaterfallshot is also a cheap trick, it’s Duran in the dungeon when he bonded to Ahmare immediately. Water was pouring over his head. Duh Ward, the fact that you went on about dark spices for a good while, any BDB fan would get it. #salty
Prisoner of Night is a quick novella length read that packs a punch.
Ward submerses the reader into her story telling with dark and graphically descriptive circumstances that will make the light-hearted reader cringe. That being said, I wouldn't have wanted to miss this shorter additions to the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.
Fast paced, bone chilling, goose-bump raising, and a perfect example of why J.R. Ward is the queen of storytelling.
I received this ARC copy of Prisoner of Night from Gallery. This is my honest and voluntary review. Prisoner of Night is set for publication Jan. 7, 2019.
Who knew vampires had cults too?
I mean J.R. Ward really knows how to build this world, and keep building it. Just when I think she's done, she keeps doing more and expanding this incredible world.
I have not been as deeply invested in a Black Dagger Brotherhood couple since Lover Eternal. Don't get me wrong. You are definitely reading a review from a certified fangirl. But normally from book to book , I feel invested in one character more so than the other in getting their HEA. And connecting with one solidly is not a bad thing, because JR Ward writes an entertaining adventure each and every time for this reader.
Wrath and Beth. Rhage and Mary. They have been forever my equal-on-a-pedestal-in-love-with-both. In a game of choice one to live, I'd tell you to off me because I can't choose who I find fascinating more. Until Ahmare and Duran.
Ahmare is driven by the need to save her brother. Using the 'weapon' known as Duran, she's going to make it happen at all costs. Duran finds helping her leads him on a path to finally realize the revenge he dreams of. What they didn't expect was a connection to each other. Once again, JR Ward spins a deeply woven tale that has you rooting not only for them to get the desired outcome of the quest they are on but to find a connection. I found I was captivated by the strength of character in which each individually and as a couple endured through the process. They are tested in ways that can and should break them apart. Being a part of their journey is what kept me engrossed for the entire read.
As a fan and avid reader, I hope we get to spend more time with the characters introduced here in future books within the BDB and BDB Legacy worlds. Now here comes the surprising part of my review...
There are 16 books to read and to some readers that is a daunting task. Do you start with book one and see if this is for you? Okay I vote yes. But... you know maybe you need a sample. If you don't mind only subtle references to the entire BDB world, I would actually recommend you maybe start here. This story is a singular look at characters without needing to know backstory on how they get here or those characters involved. JR Ward gives you a complete story within their piece of the BDB world that will have you scrambling to read more.
Es un libro que tiene como protagonistas a la raza de vampiros y sombras, pero solo nombra a la Hermandad, así que se puede leer individual.
Tiene un par de personajes a los que da ganas asesinar por su conducta. Posee una trama totalmente nueva y llena de acción.
Aunque no me convencieron los nombres de los protagonistas, Ahmare y Duran, me gustó mucho su historia.
Relectura, junio 2020: La historia de Ahmare y Duran me llegó más en esta relectura, vi más las emociones que los personajes van mostrando, y me gustaría verlos en el futuro.
This book was a great piece of shit! My God, I've never been so bored with a book written by JR Ward. The romance is extremely forced and chiche, the characters are one-dimensional and the story is not at all exciting.
What troubled me most in this story was how the romance was built, in less than 24 hours, despite all the trauma and danger, the main character decides to have sex with a guy she took out of a dungeon ... just because he was attractive. Why have a minimum of self preservation if you can have an orgasm, right?
I know JR Ward writes books that the characters fall in love fast and blah blah blah .... but in this case it was SO ridiculous that I could not approach the novel as a positive thing.
Though by JRW standards this is a novella, this book is longer than a lot of contemporary romance novels.
So what did I think.
AWESOME
This woman can do no wrong. I loved Duran (though every time I heard his name I thought of Duran Duran).
Duran was the kind of male I love— broken. Which is why V is my favorite. Funny enough Z never really did it for me. Anywho, I loved him and Amiri together.
Great read, wanted more. Never to end would be good. I can’t wait for next installment.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood is one of those must-read PNR series that everyone knows, reads, and loves, and for good reason. There’s nothing quite like this world of vampires and alpha-males, both of which I can never get tired of if J.R. Ward writes it. Some of my favorite bookish heroes have come from this series (RHAGE!) and for that I will forever be grateful to the Warden.
In Prisoner of Night, we get a little break from the BDB boys and are introduced to two new main characters: Duran, whose father sold him into imprisonment for twenty years, and Ahmare, who will risk anything to save her brother’s life. These two have one common enemy, Chalen, who is Duran’s tormentor and holds Ahmare’s brother hostage. They must band together in order to free themselves of Chalen, even while having their own agendas. There’s an immediate connection between them, but they try to ignore it to reach their end goal.
Ahmare kind of made him want to stick around.
Even though that was crazy talk.
While I can’t say that I loved this novella, it was a nice addition to the BDB world. It doesn’t add anything to the main storyline, but we do get to discover new characters that maybe we’ll see in the future again. And not only do we get Ahmare and Duran’s romance, we get a bonus love story in this novella too, though I wish both were fleshed out just a bit more. Now, I’m dying for the next actual BDB book, The Savior, which is Murhder’s book! I can’t wait to see what J.R. Ward has in store for us in his book!
This was the perfect little snack read while waiting for the main course, Savior, to come in April! I am a massive fan of these characters, Ahmare and Duran, and I really hope we get to visit them again in the BDB world. The absolutely creepy intro sets the tone and feel of this novella for its entirety.
You do not have to have read the previous novels to enjoy Prisoner of Night. It's a great way to get to know Ward’s writing style and a bit of the genre. A perfect way to kick off the new year, book friends!
I should've read the reviews before jumping into this one. I originally thought it would be a novella around one of the Brothers in the series. This is based in the BDB world but does not include characters from the main books. Overall, it was still a good read (I mean it IS J.R. Ward we're talking about here). I recommend this for anyone who needs a fix while you anxiously await a new release.
This was a great book, it's storyline was amazing, the hero and the heroine were made for each other and the villains were very mean.
Definitely a must read of you want a short story with great romance and some action.
I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
One of my favorite authors, J.R. Ward, released a novella set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. As this is one of my favorite series by her, I was very intrigued to see what this little treat would be like. I’ve always believed in Ward’s writing, but wondered how her writing would fare with short stories. As you know, her books tend to be on the long side, but I’m happy to note that this story definitely fulfill my BDB fan needs nicely.
This book is about Ahmare and Duran, two vampires who had had their fair share of bad luck. Ahmare’s brother has been taken from her and she must to many impossible things in order to get him back. The most challenging is to track down someone with the help of Duran.
Duran has been held captive for twenty-one years and his first chance at escape involves working with Ahmare. The two are very different in the beginning but you can definitely feel the way their love grows with for one another. I like that Ward didn’t make it about instalove, which is what you would normally see in a shorter story. But she takes her time, creating conflict and tension while also building that romance in a believable way.
I really enjoyed this story and I think if you’re a fan of Ward and the BDB series, you’ll want to read it to get your fix. Reading this book makes me excited for the next installment as Ward continues to keep readers on their toes.
4 Estrellitas para éste relato que he disfrutado mucho. La verdad es que no sé si es una novela corta o un relato, porque es bastante largo para ser un relato corto. Bueno, pese a ello, lo he disfrutado mucho.
He vuelto con ganas al mundo de la Hermandad de la Daga Negra, y en éste "Prisoner of Night" no sabía que iba a encontrar, pues al igual que en "Dearest Ivie" la acción ocurre en el mismo mundo vampírico creado por la Ward, pero con personajes que no conocíamos.
Estos personajes son Ahmare y Duran. Ambos vampiros civiles, los padres de Ahmare murieron durante las redadas y ella y su hermano Ahlan se quedaron solos en el mundo. Con los años Ahlan se metió en líos derivados de las drogas, y le debe mucho dinero a un señor de la guerra, Chalen. Así que Ahmare, ahora convertida en profesora de lucha, se dirije a la fortaleza de Chalen, que fue guerrero en el campamento del Sanguinario, para liberar a su hermano.
El trato entre Chalen y Ahmare será que ésta vaya a buscar a su amada y se la traiga, a cambio de devolverle a Ahlan. Pero Ahmare tendrá ayuda de la única persona que sabe dónde está la amada de Chalen. Duran, un prisionero de Chalen.
Duran es un vampiro inadaptado al mundo que le rodea. Nació en el seno y mediante violación de un vampiro letal, fundador de una secta. Cuando el padre de Duran le robó a Chalen a su amada, éste lo cogió prisionero y lo ha torturado durante veinte años. Así que la venida de Ahmare hace que Chalen libere a Duran para que la ayude a recuperar a su amada.
Así, Duran y Ahmare se adentrarán en el corazón de la secta, destruida hace años, mientras sortean los peligros que se avecinan, y que pueden entrañar al propio padre de Duran.
La acción ocurre rápido, al igual que el romance. No lo llamaría instalove, pero sí que Duran se enamora en seguida de Ahmare y pronto empieza a desprender el olor característico de los machos emparejados.
Confieso que la historia me ha tenido algo confusa, pues creo que Chalen podría haber recuperado a su amada mucho antes y no le habría costado sonsacárselo a Duran. Pero de algún modo debe salir la historia para crear el romance.
Al menos es concluyente, el romance queda bonito, como sólo la Ward sabe hacer, y ya me deja con muchísimas ganas de coger el siguiente libro.
