Gable Judson needs a hideout. A safe place to escape the shambles of his Hollywood life. When college pal James Bracelyn offers a secret cabin an hour from Ponderosa Resort, Gable’s got the car pointed toward Oregon faster than paparazzi pouncing on a nip slip.
Gretchen Laslo needs a retreat. Not just to work on her PhD dissertation, but to flee the messy breakup that left her inner critic shouting “duh, girl.” Meeting sexy, mysterious Gabe the night before she leaves is just another reminder to stay focused on her brain, because her heart’s kind of a dumbass.
When a Bracelyn family mix-up collides with the worst storm to hit Central Oregon in years, Gretchen and Gable end up accidental roommates. Roommates without internet or TV or—God forbid—an ice cream maker. With both hiding secrets they’d rather not reveal, whatever will they do to pass the long winter nights?
When Tawna Fenske finished her English lit degree at 22, she celebrated by filling a giant trash bag full of romance novels and dragging it everywhere until she’d read them all. Now she’s a RITA Award finalist, USA Today bestselling author who writes humorous fiction, risqué romance, and heartwarming love stories with a quirky twist. Publishers Weekly has praised Tawna’s offbeat romances with multiple starred reviews and noted, “There’s something wonderfully relaxing about being immersed in a story filled with over-the-top characters in undeniably relatable situations. Heartache and humor go hand in hand.”
Tawna lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, step-kids, and a menagerie of ill-behaved pets. Snowbound Squeeze is book eight in the Ponderosa Resort Romantic Comedies series by Tawna Fenske. This is a novella that even though it has plenty of humor, it packs a bit of a punch, at least it did for me. I didn’t expect that. And, even though there is one more book in this series, this novella is a tiny peek into Tawna’s other series, Juniper Ridge. Which now I am going to need to read!
Gretchen Laslo is one of Jonathan Bracelyn’s sisters. She is a research scientist, currently not only holding down a full time job but also working on her dissertation. She has no interest in television but has a fun obsession with all of her appliances.
Gable Judson is a Hollywood legend, his entire family is. But currently he wants to be anywhere but Hollywood while his name is splashed across the newspapers. He wants to hide out for awhile. His best friend from college offers him a key to a cabin that belongs to his family but no one uses. It’s remote and rugged and a perfect place to try to figure out his life. Except it seems the Bracelyn’s gave someone else a key to the cabin as well!
Gabe and Gretchen are forced to stay together in the cabin while a huge blizzard batters the area. Only their time together is perfect, full of laughter, blanket forts, snuggles, and so much more. Gretchen has no idea who he is and Gabe loves this time getting to know each other without the history attached to his name. But as the storm dies down and their time comes to an end, one thing becomes clear, he should have told her.
I met Gretchen briefly in Jonathan’s book and was so happy she got a story of her own. What a surprise, though. And like I said earlier, now that I have learned of the other series, I know I’m going to have to read that too. Hopefully I will get more of these two in the future as well. And maybe some of the other couples from this series I’ve fallen in love with. But for now, I’ll concentrate on the one additional book left to read in this series, Dr. Hot Stuff, which is Izzy’s book. I can’t wait!
He looks like the product of a cloning experiment between a hot professor and an underwear model…
I nod at the bread machine tucked next to the fridge. “Well, Giancarlo made bread… I name all my household appliances. It makes me feel rich and exotic to say, ‘Giancarlo is home baking bread,’
The Sweary Coloring Book for Adults. “Your family’s Christmas presents beat the hell out of mine”
You’re the one who gets to decide. Holding on to betrayal is like swallowing poison and waiting for the other person to get sick.
My Review:
I adore Tawna Fenske’s irreverent and clever wit and deft comedic style with the same level of fanatical fervor as I do her vibrant, quirky, and highly endearing characters. Her agile storylines are easy to fall into and keep me smirking and fully engaged from beginning to end while also observantly and thoughtfully tapping on relevant real-world issues and concerns. I have reveled in each of the smartly plotted and keenly crafted installments in this series and am already eagerly anticipating the arrival of the next one. I do believe I am irrevocably and zealously addicted.
I can’t stop kissing her temple, her ear, the pulse fluttering in her throat. I can’t stop breathing her in, marveling that salmon chowder and fallen trees and accidental gunpoint threats turned into the best sex of my life.
I always experience belly laughs and real, genuine joy reading Tawna Fenske’s books, and I’m happy to report that Snowbound Squeeze keeps that streak alive. What a delight! It’s funny and sexy and swoony and adorable—it also has some social commentary that complements the otherwise lighthearted story—and I read it cover to cover in one sitting.
I can’t recommend this series or this author highly enough!
Snowbound Squeeze is the eigth sexy delightful book in the Ponderosa Resort Romantic Comedies series.
I fell in love with Tawna's Rom Com's after reading her wonderful Assassin in Love series, Killer Instincts. It has the right mix of humour, angst, trouble, heartache, insecurities, haunted pasts, and longing. I laughed and sighed my way through the book as our couples come together with hope in their hearts.
This delightful book has big tough men brought to their knees by sassy women. But there are moments of tension and suspense to give the story another layer.
Snowbound Squeeze is another humorous, romantic, 5-star read by romance author Tawna Fenske!
The whole Ponderosa Resort series is a delicious, LOL (literally!) series. This story of Gretchen and Gable keeps it going. I enjoyed this heartwarming, swoon-worthy read. The characters (GAH! All the Bracelyn family as well!) and the storyline are fantastic and will make your heart full. I loved what brought these two together, from the backstory to them being trapped. I loved this snow-melting romance!
Plot: Both Gretchen and Gable have been told they can use the same isolated cabin (by mistake), so when the weather turns bad, they're both stuck there together. Gable is a famous Hollywood star who is hiding out, and Gretchen is a biologist looking for specific animals. The catch? Gretchen doesn't really engage with pop culture and has no idea who Gable is. That suits him just fine, but Gretchen is a stickler for honesty, and him not telling her who he is may be a deal breaker.
Commentary: I always feel bad when the character in a book is trying to hide because of fame (sports, acting, whatever) and then the other character is mad they kept that from them. I mean, the whole purpose of hiding was to keep it a secret. While I understand wanting complete honesty, it isn't realistic to believe that your brand-new love interest will tell you everything about themselves (even big things) within a week's time. But on the other hand, I understand wanting to feel like the person you're falling for trusts you; how can you believe someone when they don't tell you everything? (Although it is fair to think that someone will recognize a world-famous Hollywood star - that was just a fluke that she didn't know who he was). Still, these two were sweet together, the book was funny, and I enjoyed this one.
So I read this to break up the monotony of reading a large chapter book, and for what it was definitely served its purpose.
The reason I am giving this five stars instead of two or three lol is because I read the authors “about me” and got a better comprehension for what these books are supposed to do.
So this is a silly over the top literally love at first sight/love within a couple of days novel. And she actually delivered. It has the same exact plot of most hallmark and lifetime movies where there’s a couple it’s forced proximity, so they fall in love they have their spicy moment then there’s the drama the climactic point of the story. Which in this case it was a little bit silly in my opinion for the MMC to be that pressed about the situation that he had literally no control over and it was down for the FMC to be that mad about it for her to walk out in the middle of a snowstorm.
Overall you get your happy ending you get some spice and you get a sweet story that is supposed to be a little bit more on the humerus side.
I love this series! Anytime I get a chance for an ARC with this series, I jump at it! With this little novella, Tawna manages to still add in the humor, romance and plot twists I’ve come to expect in this series. When Gretchen, who is a book/study nerd who is so busy she doesn’t have time for much else gets trapped in a snowy, mountain cabin with a Hollywood hunk who is attempting to hide away, it’s a quick little story of falling in love fast. I’ve always rolled my eyes at books like that but I just love these characters so much it’s hard to do that. It definitely could have been a full book all on its own. The way Tawna writes these stories though, it makes me want to be friends with all these characters!
This was a freebie on Amazon. Although it's #8 in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone.
So, the trope is snowed in in a rustic cabin far from civilization. This can make for a cringy story. I've read a few about total strangers getting sexy in a matter of hours, then coming back to reality. This couple have already been introduced, though they didn't know that both of them were promised the same remote cabin. The hero is hiding a secret. The heroine is on the rebound from a bad break up where she was lied to.
I liked this story. The author writes well with some humor thrown in. This is also the tie in to another series about the hero's siblings.
Build your own blanket fort, grab a cup of hot cocoa (or maybe something stronger), and settle in for a read that will warm the cockles (whatever the heck cockles are) of your heart! This Ponderosa Resort rom-com continues the fine Fenske tradition of adding heat and hilarity to her readers' lives. Brava!
Snowbound Squeeze will heat you up this winter! This quick and steamy read is perfect for those cold nights when you're curled up with a comfy blanket and some cocoa. With secrets between them, this steamy romance will have you laughing with Gretchen's quirky names for objects, and swooning from Gable's charm. A delightful addition to the Ponderosa Resort series!
This was a fun and relaxing read. Great for passing time or just the lazy-day book. Interesting characters, emotions, steaminess, good dialogue and a super sweet ending. Enjoy!
This was even better than I was expecting. This story surprised me so much with how much raw and vulnerable issues that were discussed between Gable and Gretchen, which lead to some great intimacy moments. I loved that so much. It really went deeper than I ever thought this was going to be especially with this being labeled as novella. Novella usually don’t go into that much depth so that was a very nice surprise with this one. It was vey welcome.
The story began after director/actor/writer and one of Hollywood’s elite needed to get away from Hollywood for a little while due to a little bit of controversy with one of his films. It took a little while to figure out what that something was, but that added a lot of great mystery and suspense and made me want to keep reading to find out what it was. That intrigued me, but I knew it had to be a doozy due to the fact that he wanted to isolate himself in a cabin where no one would no where he was. He just wanted to be alone with his thoughts.
The first interaction between Gable and Gretchen was just so good. It was just filled with chemistry and attraction. They just played off of each very well with all their flirty banter. Plus it showed off just how much of an amazing connection that they had. How they really got each other. It was so good.
I loved seeing them get to know each other over the course of the book. It started pretty immediately with their soup date. They learned about each other’s quirks and idiosyncrasies. They had fun time doing it too. They were enjoying each other company.
The only hitch he didn’t reveal who he was since Gretchen was more a bookworm professor that didn’t spend a lot of time with movies and TV. In fact she was just out of the whole culture loop of the entertainment industry, which made it easy for Gable to hide his identity from her. He didn’t want her to see the it boy, but just himself for who he truly was. He felt like for the time he could really be himself.
That continued on as they were stranded by a blizzard in an isolated cabin that they both were going to use, but didn’t know it until Gretchen arrived after Gable the next morning. It was just a mix up, but a happy one. Not that they had a choice since they were stuck there, but since they enjoyed each other’s company it wasn’t really an issue.
What I liked most was how they got to know each other over the course of being stranded. They began to understand each other and like each other after discovering more and more things about one another. It was great to see that connection grow and develop through the story. This story could have easily just focused on the physical attraction and nothing more, but it took the time to establish the emotional connection first before they end up in bed together. I loved that so much.
They had really great date night moments that I really enjoyed seeing. Like them building a blanket fort, which then they used to color in as well as have sexy time but more importantly cuddly moments. It was very romantic yet sexy at the same time. It was just really cute and lovely to see all those date nights and moments where it showed they understood the other person and showed it in little ways. That was crucial I thought.
There were some very humorous moments that made me laugh out loud. There was a moment when they were doing a career test and Gretchen misread a word, turning it very naughty and Gable went with it. It was so funny and hilarious. It was a moment that they could laugh together about, which is rarely seen a romance novels. Just that they could fun together was great to see.
As I said it did get deep with some of the issues that were present. It was a balance from lightness with all the banter and flirting and such. It got really heavy at times, but it showed how complete their relationship truly was because they could deal with the issues as a couple. They handle it together and work it out.
The love scene was amazing. It was hot and sexy yet full of emotions as they connected in a way that they needed to connect with each other. It was always more between them than scratching an itch. It was about sealing their bond physical that they already sealed mentally. It was sweet and tender too.
I did think the whole declaration was a little soonish. I could see them falling in love, but I didn’t think they were quite in love with each other yet. It just a small difference, but it made a difference in the believablity factor. I just didn’t quite by it. Though I really enjoyed them together, and I did like seeing them in the beginnings of falling in love, I just wasn’t expecting the “I love yous” come that soon.
The truth about Gable did come out and though there was friction because of that. It didn’t really last long or have much of impact once Gable apologized. I think Gretchen was very understanding especially after what her lying ex did, but I think she understood by story’s end of where Gable was coming from. Their reunion was pretty sweet I have to admit.
I also loved the friends/family dynamic. I enjoyed seeing it played out even though it was a bit confusing about who was related to who and how. That was due to Gretchen’s brother’s father having a lot of children. It was a bit confusing when Gretchen said “Oh, he’s my brother then this was my brother’s brother, but not my brother” that threw me off a bit as I tried to figure it out, but I still liked seeing the interactions that they had with each other.
Overall I really enjoyed this story. I loved the intimacy building in this story. I loved the date nights that they had, which were very sweet and romantic. I loved the whole survival thing as they were stuck in a cabin during a blizzard together. They were funny moments. There were dark moments. There were moments of suspense and mystery. There was romance. There were sexy times. I just like how they connected and just enjoyed being together. It was just a good time.

Another very fun (and super funny!) story from Tawna Fenske!!
Gretchen just wants to get away and work. Gabe needs a retreat from the mess his Hollywood life has become. They share one very interesting (and flirty) dinner together before going their separate ways...only to find themselves snowed in together at a remote cabin. A lot of fun, steamy hijinks follow but Gretchen and Gabe don't really know each other...or what they themselves are looking for.
I love this series so much and this is a great addition!!
The next installment of the Ponderosa Resort series is a short novella for Gretchen Laslo and Gable Judson. Both needed an escape from messy situations when they find themselves unexpectedly stranded at a snowy cabin. The attraction was immediate (being a novella) but didn’t seem rushed. I really enjoyed the storyline and could see how easily it could be extended into a full length novel.
Ho-hum. Same-ol', same-ol'. Another Fenske rom-com, and another five-star rating. What can I say? If you like romantic comedy, you'll love this gal's books. Lots of humor, lots of sweet romance, and lots of sizzle.
As with all Tawna Fenske books I've come to love there is wit, laughter, and a sweet story, this story did not disappoint. If you are looking for a quick read, please read this story.
Have and Gretchen 's story was sweet. Two strangers meet , eat and leave. Second chance meet finds them stuck together in a storm where they fall in love.
Great book of the series. Gable needing to hide away from all the paparazzi until things calm down has gone to a remote log cabin one of his friends owns while picking up the key he is invited for some food by Gretchen who is cat sitting. There is mutual attraction between them but Gable has to leave and she didn’t recognise him. He gets a shock next morning when he woken up by a woman with a shot gun but as the shock wears of realises its Gretchen. Great hen can’t believe that Gable is at the cabin her brother said no one is in the snow storm is getting worse but when Gretchen decides to leave a tree falls over blocking her way looks like she is staying. Once the snow storm passes Gretchen snowshoes to the town when there rings her brother and tells him all about the man she has met but then her brother tells her who Gable Judson is. Gretchen doesn’t watch telly, Netflix, watch movies so that why she didn’t know who Gable is. Gretchen returns to the cabin but Gable realises straight away that she knows who he is and she is angry he didn’t tell her especially after how they feel about each other. Gretchen walks away from Gable and he doesn’t stop her only when his brother turns up and informs him of what is going on and how many nominations his film has he just knows he needs Gretchen and when he is with her he is his true self now time to go get her back.
This story begins with James college buddy Gabe needs to disappear for awhile and he gives him the keys to cabin far from the Ponderosa Ranch Resort. Gretchen happens to show up at James & Lilly’s place to borrow some dill for her famous salmon chowder. Gretchen is Jon’s half-sister. She is related to a Bracelyn. Gretchen meets “Gabel” and invites him to have some soup. He takes the invite and so begins the attraction between Gretchen and “Gabel”. But he does leave shortly to go to the reclusive cabin as planned. But who gets woken up later in the cabin with a gun pointed at him with Gretchen holding the gun? Gretchen is supposed to stay at the cabin while she does her research on a sighting of a Sierra Nevada red fox nearby by an abandoned cult compound. But she finds “ Gabel” sleeping in her cabin instead. So begins the adventure of Gabe and Gretchen. Did I mention Gretchen has people names for appliances and that Gabe is keeping a huge secret. There is a snow storm, building a blanket fort inside the cabin and as always lots of humor and heat 🔥. Tawna made this Novella very entertaining and hot during a snow storm. A quick read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars! Looking forward to new series with Gabe’s brothers.
Great story! I loved both characters. Gretchen is getting over a break up from a snake of a guy and trying to reorganize her life and finish her dissertation. Gave/Gable is trying to his out and step back from his high profile life after tragedy stuck at an event. They got to know the real them. He didn’t disclose he was a huge director/actor/producer with a famous family but he was honest about his true self. She assumed what he did for work and he just never corrected her. But lying by omission is still a partial lie. But he was still reeling from the loss of life at his event and all that was tied to working with a horrible person. She jumped to conclusions about him as a person because he didn’t disclose every waking detail of his life like she did and lumped him in with her cheating ex and bolted. Yes he lied but she just gave up. He was going through something major. She went through a lot too but when people die around to and you feel responsible that’s a whole other level. I loved how they just clicked. Their laughter and banter about random things was awesome. And how they were there for one another in a crisis. Love the ending. Can’t wait for more.
I always look forward to the newest installment of the Ponderosa Resort Romantic Comedies, and I am so glad that we're getting the stories of side characters from previous books.
When Jonathan promises Gretchen the use of a remote cabin where she can work on her dissertation without any interruptions. The only problem is that Jason promised the same cabin to Gabe, an old school friend that needs to get away from everything and everyone.
From the first moment Gretchen and Gabe met, they hit it off. The conversations flowed so easily, and Gretchen seemed to be the only person alive that doesn't know who the very famous Gable Judson is. Snowed in, stuck in a tiny remote cabin, Gretchen and Gabe get to know each other, and neither of them can fight the attraction to one another.
These two are such a sweet pair. Despite Gabe's celebrity, he is sweet, funny and tender - and he's falling hard and fast for one very witty graduate student that has a soft spot for home made ice cream, and it turns out, one very well hidden movie star.
I loved the story, loved the characters, and I can't wait to see what Fenske throws at us next.
I first heard about Tawna Fenske in August of 2015 when her book "About That Fling" was featured as a "Kindle First." I have fallen in love with the way that she tells a story. Her characters are fun, and even ones you may not like at first tend to grow on you. Since then, I have read anything that I have found by Tawna.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Bracelyn family. Although this book was about Jon’s sister Gretchen, I liked that there were still appearances from the Bracelyn brothers. I could not put this book down once I picked it up…and now I’m a bit sad that I’m done with it already.
I liked that there were small clues to Gabe’s identity, but that we found at everything about him when Gretchen did. I have to admit that I did expect what the truth was. I’m glad that the book ended the way that it did, and I am excited to read the new series staring the Judsons (although it won’t come out until the fall).
I got this book as an advance reader copy, but the reviews are my own.
What can I say about a book that starts with the most unique meet-cute I’ve ever read! Gretchen and Gabe meet while she’s borrowing dill for her salmon chowder...which she invites Gabe to come try. That right there shows the signature fun and zaniness in both the Ponderosa Resort series and author Tawna Fenske’s writing. Gretchen is just a quirky as the rest of the Bracelyn family, even though shes not a bio Bracelyn herself. She’s enchanted with the handsome, slightly secretive Gabe and his romantic gestures, but notices that he doesn’t share much about himself. There’s an interesting trail of breadcrumbs to who he is, but even this reader was surprised to hear his whole story. Even though this story is a fast read, it doesn’t feel rushed or incomplete. We get just enough cameos of past characters to give series readers a chance to see how they’re doing, but not enough to confuse or overwhelm new readers. It’s a definite stand-alone read, and possibly the beginning to a new series!? Gabe and Gretchen are a couple to cheer for.
Tawna Fenske has done it again. She’s written another wonderful book to add to her Ponderosa Resort series, and this time it’s Gabe and Gretchen who have found their happy ending. This series is filled with interesting and quirky characters, and you can always expect a little heat and a lot of heart. Gabe is a wounded soul, hiding a heartbreaking secret. Gretchen is guarding her heart after a harsh betrayal. The story, however, isn’t full of angst and sorrow. Instead, we watch as two people get to know one another, sharing who they really with one another. I loved Gretchen’s habit of naming appliances, and sympathized with Gabe over his desire to be seen without the typical preconceived notions most people had of him. I also couldn’t help but long to make a blanket fort of mine own, though it definitely wouldn’t be as romantic as the one Gretchen and Gabe shared — darn! As mentioned, this book is part of a series, and can be read on its own, but I’d highly recommend getting to know the other residents of Ponderosa Resort, too!
This is a great book; this is the eighth book in the Ponderosa Resort series written by Tawna Fenske. This was such a great book, I kept me reading way past my bedtime! Gable Judson is a famous director in Hollywood and is trying to escape the media. His college best friend offers him a cabin an hour from the Ponderosa Resort he can’t get there fast enough. While getting the key to the cabin from James he meets Gretchen, but the last thing he needs is a relationship. Everyone he knows wants him just for his Hollywood life. However, Gretchen is the only women he as met that doesn’t recognize him. Gretchen laslo needs a quiet place to work on her dissertation. When she shows up at the cabin the next day neither one is aware that they were promised the use of the cabin. When they get snowed in they agree to be roommates until they can get out for help. What they weren’t prepared for was falling for each other. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next book by this awesome author!
Loved this book in the Ponderosa Resort series. I absolutely loved Gretchen and Gabe(Gable) was perfect for her. Gretchen is a researcher who spends all of her time reading or working with no time or interest in watching tv or movies. Which was perfect for Gable who wanted to get away from the celebrity life after an incident on his previous job. That is why Gretchen was introduced to him as Gabe and he loved that he could be himself (or Gabe) with her. When plans get mixed up and these two are snowed in at a cabin they learn more about each other, of course some things don’t get said when they should and problems arise. I loved having some of the Bracelyn’s show up- Jon (Gretchen’s brother), James and Mark. Plus we meet Gabe’s brother Dean and hear about his other siblings. This was a fantastic book and I can’t wait for more in these series!
I really enjoyed this story and loved Gable and Gretchen. From Gretchen with her many amazing quirks and naming her appliances to Gable and his mustard grandma, so many things to like about these two. They were each trying to escape different things and ended up snowbound together. Gable was very romantic making Gretchen the blanket fort and snow mint chocolate chip ice cream. As always, I enjoy the Bracelyn’s and unknowingly two of them put these two in the path of each other and helped Gable get to Gretchen to make things right in the end. I really liked Patti and Colleen and I’m hoping we get to see them in a future book. Of course, we must have a moment of silence in honor of Sarah, Gretchen’s ice cream maker that was a casualty of the Great Tree Crash of 2020. Looking forward to reading Dr. Hot Stuff.
This was a very fun, relaxing, comical story. It was fun to go back to childhood with the blanket fort in the living room. It was comical to hear about the grandma's, especially mustard gramma. It was relaxing because both Gabe and Gretchen were able to let go of their issues for a couple of days in the cabin. But unfortunately reality finds its way into their relaxing, fun times.
Both Gabe and Gretchen have issues in their real lives and they both appear to be bearing the blame for things that were out of their control. Will they be able to overcome these issues and self-blame?
It is such a joy to see more characters coming out of the Ponderosa family. Cord Bracelyn seemed to breed like a rabbit, but these side characters add even more flavor to the series. I'm looking forward to the Judson's coming to town and seeing what they do with the cult compound.
