Remember when dead in the water was just an expression? Not anymore.

Fresh from her unplanned stay in the Otherworld, Quinn MacKenna is forced to wait in Fae’s worst Air BnB—a grotesque gingerbread house in a forest full of breadcrumbs—for the captain who will guide her ship to the fabled Atlantis.

But just as idle hands are the Devil’s workshop, idle minds are the Titans’ torture chamber.

The last thing Quinn needs to do is climb down the rabbit hole of her own fears and self-doubts to confront her inner Beasts. She has enough on her mind as she struggles to rediscover her identity and frets over the whereabouts of an old friend bent on vengeance and mayhem. An old friend she may have to put in the grave, whether she wants to or not.

Before she can worry about any of that, Quinn will first have to heal old wounds, enlist the aid of allies old and new, and somehow survive the turbulent tides of fate. Unfortunately, in order to stay afloat, she’ll have to sail into yet another unfamiliar world, a realm of monsters and men and gods so old they are known only as Titans.

It’s all hands on deck—monsters, sea-dogs, and scallywags—as Quinn strives to save who can be saved and beat those who must be beaten. With new powers at her disposal and an ill-matched crew to manage, it will be up to her to navigate these troubled waters. Odysseus may as well have taken a leisure cruise back from Troy compared to Quinn’s fatally fateful voyage.

Quinn will have to bring enough rum to get a Cyclops drunk. Or die trying. Because it’s awfully hard to steer when gods are rocking the boat.

And the world desperately needs her to come back home.

This book is a little different than the other books in this series. This feels very much to me like a wrap-up/set-up book. I think some people aren’t going to be very fond of this book for that reason. And, truthfully, there wasn’t much forward movement in the plot. However, I liked this book because it showed me how far exactly Quinn has come since the first book, but I do admit that a couple things irritated me in a good way. LOL! And, boy, the end was a slap in the face, but I do like cliffhangers. No spoilers! All in all, this was an excellently written book, there were surprises, with was some action, and I look forward to the next. I received a complimentary copy, and I voluntarily reviewed it.

Let's call this a 3.5. And here's why:

Quinn is off again on another adventure to another improbable land. This time it's with the Neverland crew mixed in with the Greeks. We have the motley crew of James Junior (Peter's adopted son, biological son of Hook), Tiger Lily, Helen of Troy, Tinkerbell, and Narcissus; a mixture of characters that boggle the mind if you think about them too hard.

I kept starting over when writing this review, because each time I started I got lost in the minutia of her various travels up to this point. She has been to so many places, played so many parts, met so many people and learned so much about herself that by this point it seems almost redundant to say she's on a journey with friends and then try to fill in all the details. To do that I'd have to retell the whole book.

I'm not going to do that. What I will say is, I lost a little due to confusion with this one. The road to Atlantis seems to have taken way too many detours, even if Ryan (Jack Frost now) seemed to be taking the same convoluted route. And there were losses along the way that struck a chord, leaving a definite hole where those lost had been.

One thing that was obvious, there is a lot of introspection on Quinn's part in this one, and it was a necessary evaluation of her life up to this point. She needed to take a close look at where she was headed and how she intended to get there. To say she grew up quite a bit is an understatement, and I have to say I kind of miss our snarky, loud mouthed troublemaker, even if growing out of that was a necessity for her to successfully complete whatever it was her mother set her up for, whether it be destiny or simply some unreasonable quest she created.

This book seems to have been one very long book broken down into 2 books, of which this is part one. Because that seems to be the case, we're left with a multitude of questions and a cliffhanger. And one thing I never thought I'd see happen with Shayne and Cameron, has actually happened. Not a single thing was resolved, and we have to wait for part two to get any kind of resolution of anything that began here. That was the one true disappointment I felt in this edition of Quinn's quest. Between the lack of resolution, and the loss of our snarky, wise-cracking Irish troublemaker to maturity, this book left me disappointed.

However, since I am a huge fan of Quinn's, and because she is, quite possibly, my favorite character, I am quite willing to wait for part two to get answers to the myriad of questions I have piled up. I just hope Quinn can get back to being the carefree girl we all loved to be shocked by, and that the next book isn't too long in coming.

The writing, as always, was exemplary, which, no matter the topic or the possible disappointments, will always be what brings me back for more. I always know that if they left me a little dry this time, they'll make up for it in the next. And that, in my book, is true talent. So, all things aside, these are still authors always worth reading. Always.

This book was given to me as an ARC with the hopes of an honest review. This review was written in my own words and of my own volition. As always.

I absolutely LOVE Quinn, but this one felt a bit like a struggle to read in a shorter sitting. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just a ton to digest. Some rereading to make sure I wasn't missing things, lots of references and plenty of out-of-left-field moments. I miss Quinn's snark--not as much thrown in as I would've liked to break up the seriousness (the hippie Vegiants felt a tad bit forced as comic relief). Narcissus is a likeable side character, Helen rubs me the wrong way--don't trust that bitch as far as I can throw her, Obelius is admirable (but I have a bad feeling he will be sacrificed to the cause) and James has his own mystery that left me intrigued. These characters could have used a bit more character development to really hook me, and I wish there were more action scenes like the one at the end (had that "just when it's getting really good..." feel), but overall, I liked it well enough.
The near end redeemed it all for me, when James is speaking about Peter to Quinn: "I'm so glad you lost your sorry." Each book in these series has those certain lines that just suckerpunch you with a-ha moments of clarity, resonating within and leaving your ears ringing. That was the one. That scene brought it all home for me, and back around for Quinn.
Cliff-hanger ending...yes and no. It didn't feel cut-off for me, but an exciting to-be-continued.

I’m drowning!

Are you kidding me right now?! I can barely articulate how fantastic this story was but I am so beyond angry at the ending!!! Arrrrgggghhhh!!! Just when the story sucks you in like a whirlpool (wink wink) and you’re gobbling you the pages like you’ve got six mouths (more winking) it just...just...ends.

I’m convinced Shayne Silvers and Cameron O’Connell get years added onto their lives every time they leave a reader staring dumbfounded at their written pages. If you’ve followed Quinn at all then you HAVE to read this one. You have to. Because I’m drowning here in a sea of “are you kidding me?!” and I desperately need someone to cling to!

Another fast, almost too short installment in the stories of Cameron O'Connell's Phantom Queens, Sea Breeze is Quinn Mackenna's eighth foray into the madness of the Templeverse, and while evident change is in the making, breezy does seem to be the word to apply to this installment.

The quality is still at its peak, the tone of O'Connell's writing and how it ebbs and flows with the qualities of Silvers' crafted universe still works to the favor of the plot and characters well. Quinn Mackenna has been forced onto the sidelines to await an opportunity for the next phase of her journeying to begin, and when it does it throws her headlong into a number of terribly heavy, complex choices with longstanding consequences to them. Tackling them out of necessity also pushes Quinn to reflect on the greater backdrop of her life and the choices she'd made to get to the current point, realizing in many ways how she has changed and grown from who and how she used to be. Much of the baggage that once defined a significant portion of her character has crumbled away or become so distant and different from who she is in the present that it feels almost like someone else's life, and she doesn't lie to herself about realizing it.

The plot at hand is almost cozily tucked away from the greater drama going on in the Templeverse, but not to the extent that its meaningless to it all, far from it if the implications are correct. Old choices and older events rear their head in strange ways, and with a few classic Templeverse twists and turns in the mix, things are on course to throw a few more revelations and hard choices Quinn's way.

The only issue is again, how quick an installment it is, coming in and leaving right like a proper breeze. It seems more prelude to the actual journey rather than the first few actual steps of it, and while the introspective growth of Quinn is a great narrative focus and her interactions with the other characters do a lot to give them some development with eachother, it does leave one feeling a bit like they went into a full course meal and it stopped just past the appetizer.

A separate and somewhat baffling note is what may or may not be a editorial/narrative oversight, or possibly even authorial retcon, its hard to say, but there's a focus on a particularly important plot point that seems to now be the exact opposite of how it was originally described, changing the entire context of it and the situation at hand in the current story. The details were initially given back in the fourth installment, Dark and Stormy, and going back to reread the portion in question just validated my sense of confusion over it. I'm not sure if this is something that needs adjustment, but as it stands now it reads genuinely strange enough that it threw me right out of the story to go and check if I wasn't going crazy or not.

Overall the rest of the story though keeps to the feel of Quinn's development, and the breadth of it aside, it does hit on some good events and character moments as usual. And as usual I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Sea Breeze : (Phantom Queen Diaries Book # 8) : Shayne Silvers & Cameron O'Connell.

Read November 07/11/19 - 12/11/19

Quinn MacKenna, The Goblin King : Oberon,
Eve : The Sappling of Tree of Knowledge, Cathal : The Faerie Hound, Helen of Troy,
Narcissus, James Pan, Tinkerbell, Tiger Lily of the Brave, Neverland, Queen Adonia of the Laestrygonians Giants, Obelius the Vegiant, Ryan : The New Jack Frost, Dr Victor Frankenstein And So Much More!

Original, Absorbing And A Thoroughly Entertaining Read From Beginning To End… With Out Of This World Cameo's And The Well Known Name Dropping Of Historical & Mythological Figures By These Authors Is More Shameful Than A Movie & Rock Star's Tell All Bioepic!

This is the first book book of Shayne Silvers and Cameron O'Connell I have read, but will definitely not be the Last!

I'm not one to re-write the synopsis of the story, so if you want that, then I suggest you read the book jacket, honest who can write it better than the author's anyway?
No this is my thoughts on the book & her author's & why you should buy it and read it.

Starting this universe at book 8 of The Phantom Queen Diaries (series 3) which interlaces and constantly crosses over with the other 2 Series, The Nate Temple & Callie Penrose Series' made it difficult at times with so many references to past characters, places & events, but in saying that, I was still able to easily read and throughly enjoy this novel coming in so late. But can not wait to catch up reading all 30 or so books, but I will do so in order so when I re-read this book I'll update my review then and hopefully it makes more sense.

I Just Love, Love, Love This Dynamic Duo of Caped Crusaders & Their sarcastic witty action packed sequences & Star of The Show Quinn MacKenna.
These boys will that have you laughing your ass off one minute, then sitting on the edge of your seat the next, reading just as fast as your eyes & brain can comprehend!

Quinn is a very different character than any of read before, but I still don't know enough about her to say too much. I believe she's part Fae part Human, but are Wizards classed as Human or Freak? So can she be both Fae & Wizard, I'll guess that's something I'll learn along the way!

Unfortuately coming in at Book # 8 or 30,
I've just missed too much back story, for now, but I am sure I'm going to love her as a favourite characte, I already think highly of her & love seeing a 'Blood Nut' or 'Ranga' as a lead star! I'm still not even sure who her Mother was / is and what powers & gifts she gave her daughter. And whether her Mum is Dead or Alive? Much to learn, but we do find out who her other parent is which I had to say was a big shock to this reader and Blew me away!

But I guess these books are just those types of stories. Full of big twist & turns that are unpredictable and keep over 1 million readers coming back for more and more!

This novel from what I heard (from the authors mouth, oops txt) was so large it had to be spilt into 2 and is the lead up into all the on coming action of Hurricane Book #9 in Phantom Queen Diaries, but this one is still worth while revealing her own bounty and booty if 'ye follow the treasure map to get you there!

As for the Dynamic Duo, what can I say about these two that hasn't been written before.
A pair of Evil Geniuses who love to leave you hanging off the edge of the cliff from one nail, while your other arm & legs swing precariously for purchase. And now 4 the death defying wait! Thanks Guy's you Suck! But love ya really.
I swear they have a whole book of future plotted out story arc's with twist & turns that you'll never see coming just to screw with your mind. You should see the stuff this bloke posts in his author Facebook group Shayne Silvers Den of Freaks! It's so tormenting! They've created more than just a world here,
a whole universe where all the weird & wonderful, frightening freaks, friend & foe's gather to play, battle, love, f-#k, frolic and throw down.

A place that feels so incredibly real, you'll feel as though you're the character walking in the heels of Hook's leather boots, Quinn's wearing or walking in the sexy supple smooth skin of Narcissus' as he stares admiringly at his own refection, or feeling the power packed muscle behind Giant Obelius's arm throwing a javelin or swinging a sword as big as a tree!,
It's a place hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the world would kill to be part of, with many finding cameo's as characters or even if only part of it while reading, but even after the last page is done & dusted, The Templeverse & her character are hard to let go.

But than again, I'm not sure my head not heart & body could take all the near miss death scenes, battles, villains & buddies both Freak & Regular that create the love & carnage of this incredible adventurous land.

They 'The Characters' stay in my mind for weeks after closing that last page of a book. But that's what the Den is for, Shayne created a place where all his fans aka 'The Freaks' can gather like one big Freaking Family, even putting on yearly get togethers called FRIENDSGIVING which he attends. This bloke is not your average author & is always giving back to his fans & constantly communicating with them & why he became a favourite of mine b4 I had even read 1 page of his work! Sorry Cameron, I believe your just as big a part of the Den & participate in FRIENDSGIVING too!

Brilliant writing & incredible story arcs by an awesome team of two collaborating authors. Often I feel while reading collaborations or stories that author's write in another author's world, you can tell one has the lead or who has written the book by the writing style especially if you know one's work well.
But here I can't define who has done what, the only major difference I've picked up is there's not as much of that brilliant Silvers' snarkey witt & humor, but it could just be this book as it's all I've got to go off with Cameron.

Fabulous world building of a never before heard of universe full of Notorious characters, people, places, lands & ships like The Jolly Roger from Peter Pan / Hook fables.
All this gets bought together, coming from mythology, fables, legends & history meshing to create a story that packs a punch like being slapped upside the head with a 4 × 4, changing everything you ever thought you knew!

Like villians suffocating in the sands of time sliding into the bottom of an hour glass, so too are the Days of The Templeverse!

I RATE SEA BREEZE
4.5⭐ Out Of 5⭐!

And definitely recommend this read!

I recieved an ARC Copy of this book from the author's and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

Breakthrough Book!!

I think this is Quinn’s breakthrough book! It is, by far, my favorite of her series. Quinn has been a hard character for me to embrace. However, after this book, she is totally a part of the Templeverse for me!

Loved loved loved this book! The mythology, the history, the action, the pace, and the writing is excellent. The new (and returning) characters are fantastic. I only have one small problem. The ending! It kind of sneaks up on you and it’s a doozy! I NEED BOOK 9 NOW!!

So... get reading.

Quinn sets off on a epic journey to an unlikely destination. First, she has a promise to keep to Eve, and the fulfillment is outstanding. Then, setting sail not with the allies she had intended, but those that were left in their stead, she encounters trials and threats that turn tales from the Odyssey on their head. Though she doesn't reach her final destination in this book (this is a series, after all), the journey within is wrought with descriptive wonder, excessive danger, action, and a few laughs. Dynamite trip, and I look forward to the continuance of Quinn's quest.

An amazing, exciting tale that grips you from the first.

Quinn is an amazing warrior and Sea Breeze gives you a deeper look at her. She picks up some new friends to help her along the way. I love the way the Phantom Queen series blends characters of myth and legend with a modern twist. Sea Breeze takes you on an exciting journey and is filled with magic and lore. You are swept away from the first sentence and taken on an amazing ride. You come to a deeper understanding of Quinn and her quest to keep everyone she cares about safe. You'll gobble this up in one sitting and howl for more at the end.

Once more into the frsy

Time waits for no man, children grow up and move on, leadership is one of those on the job training things and Quinn McKenna has her fingers in all those pies. Neverland is just the beginning and Charybis isn't the end. Come sail away and see where the guys take you this time. You will like the ride. I guarantee.

It's a bit chilly on the way to Atlantis

I think we are back to seeing what Quinn can do and who she can be. She's sorting out herself from her other adventures and making new ones. Get to meet some new funkadelic characters.

I am forever entertained by the characters in this series. Great story, mythological creatures, mystery and twisty's. Quinn is in a race to catch Ryan, her longtime friend, who has been turned into the winter Queen's assassin, Jack Frost. Trying to save him, she returns to Neverland for reinforcements as she navigates Fae to reach the spear before Ryan. Now with unknown magic, nor how to wield it, she bets everything on this voyage. Cliffhanger.

Quinn has returned, and after the personal bombshells she has endured you would think that she would deserve some time off, but that is not to be. Quin returns to the Fae realm in search of he new nemesis, Jack Frost, and is directed to find Atlantis. On the trek she picks up a new ragtag crew, and revisits Neverland, to find nothing is the way she left it. Quinn has great power now, but how will she wield it? As she takes up a journey reminiscent of Odysseus's, she finds herself thrust into roles and situations where she must answer that very question.
This book definitely feels like it is more of a setup for things to come. There are some great scenes, and some great snark, but you do have to read with some patience.

Cameron O'Connell and Shayne Silvers have done it again. They left us hanging. Another cliffhanger which will leave you begging for the next book. There are a lots of loose ends and no answers, but that doesn't mean the story isn't entertaining! Giants. Cyclops. Monsters. Tinkerbell. The Jolly Roger. Neverland. And a tree that bears all knowledge. How could there not be adventure and excitement?! Greek mythology, Celtic mythology, and Neverland - mixing all of these is bound to end in adventure! (Or disaster). Can't say too much as I don't want to spoil it for any one, but be prepared for the "WTF?" moments, and "Oh Wow". Enjoy, and join me in the wait for the next book!

Quinn’s on the hunt for Jack Frost, and her ‘hunting party’ is quite the incongruent assembly of characters. There are feels, battles, more reveals… And Narcissus is back, as beautiful as ever – of course – as a great foil for serious situations.
I have mixed feelings about this latest installment of Phantom Queen. On one hand, I feel this book is really ‘Quinn’. That is, her thought process and personality feel more real. On the other, this is clearly a ‘bridge’ to the next novel, with an ending you’re probably going to hate. I’m just glad it shouldn’t be long before Hurricane comes out to carry us further along Quinn’s journey.

Shayne Silvers and his Phantom partner-in-crime Cameron O'Connell always deliver the goods.
That being said I found this a little slower-reading than the usual edge of the seat, they-did-what? storyline. The action was certainly still there but was cushioned by more backstory than usual. It felt like the (Sea) Breeze before the storm and that it must explain something yet to come.
I really enjoyed this unexpected change-of-pace and the story did not suffer. If anything it accentuated the action as the ending was definitely edge-of-the-seat stuff. Can't wait for the next instalment.
Excellent as always.

Don't you hate it when a good plan falls through? What can you do? Danger just chases Quinn wherever she goes! I love Quinn. She's on a dangerous quest with lots of pitfalls, a new crew of allies, an old map, a pirate ship, and magic she doesn't understand. If I'm ever on a dangerous trip, I'd want Quinn with me! Her ability to improvise and survive is awesome. This book has action, great characters, a quest, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense, monsters, loyalty, magic, the 8th sea, giants, challenges, humor and more.

I would never have thought that a book could seamlessly blend the mythos of Ancient Greek mythology with Neverland and come up with such a brilliant storyline. Quinn faces inner conflict and growth like never before. A line in the story really hit home for me. “I’m so glad you lost your sorry”. Don’t live in regret...read this book!

Wow! When told to go big or go home, Cameron definitely went EPICALLY BIG!! A lot more introspective than we are used to from Quinn, but it works and allows to understand both Quinn and those she interacts with. And Quinn’s quest to find Atlantis and keep her promises leads to interesting shipmates. Though I’m waiting with bated breath to see what happens after that massive cliffhanger

While this outing may not be the most action packed of the Templeverse and it ends on the mother of all cliffhangers, there is a lot of inner contemplation, character growth and depth, Quinn is slowly coming into her own, and you can tell the events in this book are leading to something big in the next 1 or 2 books.

Cameron O'Connell and Shayne Silvers, kudos to you both yet again

If you’ve gotten this far in the series, then I hope you enjoy Quinn’s adventures and the band of characters that often accompany her as much as I do. and if you do, it means, you’ll enjoy this one. It’s Neverland meets Greece.

I’m incredibly disappointed

This series has really grown, and I’ve grown to love the main character ,Quinn. The first seven books in this series were released at an unbelievable rate of 7 in 9 months. At the end of Salty Dog there was a jaw dropping conclusion. The fans of this series have been clamoring for more. More Quinn, answers to questions , tie ins to two other series. I myself have whined and bitterly complained for months. Finally we were told November, eight months after the last release. I was thrilled, finally Quinn and maybe some answers. My title pretty much explains my feelings. This book seems so different from the others. It’s not just that there was very little excitement. Quinn has a certain “distinctive flavor” to her speech. The book is written in the first person which is normal for this series. The words that come out of Quinn’s mouth and her endless, endless , monotonous thoughts are from two completely different individuals. When she speaks she’s tough and direct. When she’s thinking it’s as if somebody opened up a dictionary and picked out every 4 or more syllable word and threw them in a sentence . It’s not consistent. This book was incredibly frustrating for me. It wasn’t the cliff hanger. These authors are notorious for cliffhangers. I almost expect them because if how many there seem to be. Maybe it’s because I was looking forward to the advancement of the series. IMO this didn’t advance anything. I was told it’s about her growth. Maybe it was her growth in mental word choices? I almost wish I skipped this book. I’m not sure about the next book, I’m conflicted.

What can I say about this one? There seems to be less snark in it than in most of the books in the Templeverse. There is plenty of the fast-moving action you expect from Quinn, though.

Quinn Mackenna is trying to get to Atlantis to stop her former friend and now bitter enemy, Ryan O’Rye, who has taken on the job of being the new Jack Frost, from doing something (I forget what). But it’s another one of those sorts of nightmare situations where she just can’t seem to get there.

Neverland has died, along with Peter Pan and Captain Hook. For most of the book, Quinn is trying to rebuild Neverland so she can get the few remaining Neverlanders to take her in the Jolly Roger to Atlantis, or to wherever she needs to go to find out how to get to Atlantis.

Once that’s done, however, Quinn sets sail with James Hook, Tiger Lilly, and Tinkerbelle, along with Narcissus and Helen of Troy across an expanse known as the Eighth Sea. There befall the things that befall, and just when it looks like things are looking up again, that ending happens. The only clue that Quinn isn’t about to die is that it would make no sense to cut off just there if that was going to be the case.

Sea Breeze : Phantom Queen Book 8

I have so enjoyed Quinn MacKenna and all her issues in the previous stories, but this book wasn't up to my usual expectations. It started off very slow and almost boring for almost 8 chapters. Mostly reminding us of previous situations, characters and what Quinn has learned about her past. Things started to get better, but the problems, battles and characters just didn't keep up to Shayne and Cameron's standards!! The ending leaves you hanging, but of course you know she must come back. I feel bad for Quinn, as all she ever seems to want is to get back to Boston and her old life and friends. Instead she wallows in Fae worlds, (just like Nate Temple), still struggling to find what she really is, helping those who don't have her interest at heart and still at a loss to what her powers truly are.
I can only hope we don't have to wait months and months for the next book to pick up where this one left off.
