Communication...
Communication of wants, needs and desire. These are the emotions running through this story.
Austin's childhood was dismal. Abandonment by a father who left the family and abandonment by a mother who, while physically there, became an alcoholic. Austin's sister, Megan, was his only sense of stability. The siblings essentially raised themselves. Their mother entered Rehab numerous times, only to relapse over and over again. Still, Austin and Megan stood by her, hoping 'this time' , they would finally have a sober and loving mother.
My feelings on this aspect of the story may not be to everyone's liking, but I would have cut my losses and moved on with my life. I know alcoholism is considered a disease but there comes a time when you have to live your own life and not let someone elses, even a family member's life choices, hold you back from finding peace, stability and love. The program offered at the end of the story sounded hopeful but so did the other numerous Rehab programs. This latest version was left as...maybe, hopefully, this time it will work. Hmmm.
Austin and Logan were best friends in high school. Austin 'abandoned' Logan because of fear and insecurity, meeting up years later at an elite soccer program in Paris. Their friendship rekindled and Logan slowly began to realize his feelings for Austin went beyond just friendship.
Communication, trust and confidence in self worth. These are some of the things these two men had to work through. And they did. True love saved them.
