What are you facing today? When you are struggling, you have a choice to walk with God . . . or let the darkness envelop you. It is not always easy, but God’s Word captures this struggle perfectly in the Psalms. Although they are often known for their passages of praise, the Psalms are also full of lament.
This study is about that in-between space―walking from the lament into the praise. Full of encouragement and reassurance that we will see God move, this study will help you to see the fuller picture and the light that we can turn toward in Christ.

“These are some of the best Bible studies on the market. Not only has Teresa found a way to teach biblical truth with profound wisdom, but she does so in a winsome and relatable way.” ―Kat Armstrong, author of No More Holding Back
“These guided studies are for any woman who is wrestling with a sense of direction and believing in her worth.” ―Marshawn Evans Daniels, Godfidence Coach, reinvention strategist for women
Saying Yes in the Darkness: 7 Weeks in the Book of Psalms is one of three new studies by Teresa Swanstrom Anderson, and you are not going to want to miss a single one! It is absolutely brimming with new insights, helpful charts, thoughtful questions, all of which get you digging deeper into scripture than before. Not only does Teresa lead you into the Psalms, but she also teaches you how to study and introduces other resources that can help you as you grow. I have done my fair share of Bible studies over the years, and while others have left me disappointed with a shallow outline or overwhelmed by being all story and no scripture, Teresa's studies are a breath of fresh air and exactly what I was looking for! I cannot recommend them enough!

This study found me at a season of struggle and indecision. Inbetween the pages, I was able to find strength, direction and so much more. Will be keeping this study close at hand for refreshing, and look forward to checking out other studies in the series.
Generally, I would say this is an ok study. I learned a good bit. But, I would enter a caution. The author quotes out of the Passion Bible which gives me great concern for those seeking truth. The Passion Bible, why do we need another Bible translation, has so much added to it that one has to be so cautious reading. It would do one well to not even consider it. There was only one theological issue where she calls the Holy Spirit Savior. I talked this over with two solid believers. I read what she wrote to one and that person's eyebrows jumped to his hairline with the words, which sent my radar up higher. I am not sure if she did not mean what she wrote and it was an oversight or if that is what she believes. But, for me, it gave me a concern. Because of this, I would not recommend this study to someone who is young in the faith. Overall, I thought she did a good job but when dealing with Scripture, there has to be extreme caution to make sure all is right. Nevertheless, I did learn from this study.
Anderson guides her readers to dig deeper and cultivate a deeper relationship with Christ through the study of David's life through Psalms. She makes the Bible very approachable for every person, no matter how much or how little they know about the Bible. She shares various resources, commentaries and apps to help the reader seek answers and more knowledge and understanding. It's as if she is right next to you, guiding you every step of the way. I love how Anderson didn't just focus solely on the Psalms, but also included 1 and 2 Samuel to give the reader a greater picture and understanding of David's life.
This study of Psalms challenges us to learn to walk through our dark seasons to find the light. We grow the most during the in between on our journey to the light.
I highly recommend this study as well as her other two Get Wisdom Studies.
Definitely was impactful going through this Bible study . I learned so much about God through the eyes of David and Samuel. More so David. I can relate and see myself in David and his trials. But seeing God with him every step of the way is so enlightening & heartwarming. He makes me more confident in my doings and relationship with God knowing no matter what it is it is already forgiven and my hands have already been cleansed by God. For he is the light, and the light that shines from within me. I am never lost or alone. Always engulfed in his presence whether I know it or not. I am always protected in the shadows of his wings and he guards and loves me with his life yesterday, today, and forever. And I am so very thankful for this book for helping me reach this place of peace with my relationship with God.
This book will arrive in 1 week and I cannot wait to dig in! I will come back and update after finishing the study. I've done another study of Teresa's (on Philippians) and read her book, Beautifully Interrupted, and if this study is even half as good as what I've already read, I know it will be amazing. I do already know that I love that the writing portions are included IN the book so it's easier to take with me to the coffee shop or porch swing. I love how Teresa encourages her readers to ready, study and research for themselves. And I love the questions she leaves lingering that will produce real change in my life. Anyone who has experienced a season of darkness will be especially blessed by this book!
I am LOVING this devotional book! I have been looking for something exactly like this for a while now. I wanted to find a devotion book that I could do with a group, but also get a lot out of it by myself. Her writing style is relatable and yet asks questions to make you think. That's my favorite part......that she asks you questions and you get to really dive deep into the Bible. Check out all 3 books!
I just received a copy of this study and it is the next Bible study that I am going to read! I am looking forward to studying the Psalms in a way that acknowledges both the attitude of praise and of lament - the full picture! This is definitely something that is really relevant to the world we're living in right now, so I'm thankful that Teresa wrote this study!
I haven’t received this book yet but just knowing how the Living for What Really Matters study through Philippians is, this book is going to be amazing! I’ll post my final review after I’ve received and finished it!
Just got this book and I can't wait to dig in after looking through the first few pages. Teresa has a way with her words that I really am able to connect with and get such a deeper understanding of the word.
I am anticipating receiving this study in the mail as soon as it launches. I have already begun one of the other studies in this series and it is amazing. I just know this one is going to be just as wonderful.
I just received this study. I am finishing up another study written by Teresa that I am enjoying so much. This is the perfect next study especially during this difficult time in the world. I’ll be back as soon as I finish to update you with all the awesome gems!
Can't wait to get my hands on this book - ordered to study with a dear friend of mine. Well formatted with readings, historical references and plenty of room for reflection. You can pre-order so you have it when it releases on July 14th.
Another great Bible study by Teresa Swanstrom Anderson. Her deep dive into the historical context, biblical languages and surrounding passages are simple to follow, but also full of depth. She uses a variety of sources, translations and paraphrases that enrich the study. I appreciate her personal touches and the very real applications, but the depth of study as well. It is a rare combination - especially in devotionals and Bible studies for women. Highly recommend this study!
Psalms is one of my favorite books in the Bible. This is a well written collection of devotions. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
This book is on the top of my to be read pile. I cannot wait to dive in to the Psalms with Teresa. The way she links things together makes the scripture make more sense and easier to relate to.
I just got Saying Yes in the Darkness and cannot wait to dive deeper into it! Teresa always inspires me to dig deeper into God's word, trust Him more, and lead by example!
I can’t wait to study the Psalms along with Teresa. This study challenges us to praise God even during times of immense struggle. This study is beautifully made.
The study of Psalms thrift the lense of David's hardships and victories gives depth to the words written in his psalms. He knew hardship. He knew victory. And through it all he understood God's hand, His grace, His love, His sovereignty. We know who God is from David's writings. We know what God does. God gives us a foundation to understand Himself through the Word. We also have application and kinship with David since we know his full story, good and bad. We know how God loves, guides and protects even in the midst of our own darkness: trials and sin. I love Anderson's studies. These are good both in groups and for personal study.
