Divan of Shah

Rate this book
Divan means a collection of poems. Divan of Shah represents an unconscious longing for union within. It is beautifully illustrated and a wonderful amalgamation of some of Shah’s brilliant work filled with the raw emotion of love as if he himself has spilled his heart onto a canvas and has painted love itself. Shah has tapped into the collective unexplored and perhaps his own realm of dreams.

The book meticulously presents so many aspects of love in specific detail which harkens one’s appreciation for love even more than before and some examples of love we may have taken for granted. It shows the limitless power and ways love presents itself and how it can change one’s life for the better or worse.

This one is a thoughtful collection of poetic lines that invites the reader into the dimension of love, which happens to be the idea of a reflective mirror having no color yet for all colors of the embodiment are reflected back.

never make a lady cry

let them reside within celestial eyes
for even paradise unveils its reflection
through the radiance of their glow

Divan of Shah is a poetry book. Now, you need to know that I'm not a big fan of poetry. This poetry book did a good job though in keeping me interested! The poems are about dance and love which was nice to read about. Especially the ones that were about dance, it reminded me of when I used to dance years ago.
I can't tell you if the rhyming/analytic things were okay because I suck at that. But I enjoyed the story it told. This was a very okay poetry book and I gave it 3.5 stars!
My favourite poems: Where are you & Romantic retreats.

Received this book from the author for the honest review.

I haven't read poetry in a long time. So "Divan of Shah" promised not only a great plunge into the genre but also into a different culture.

description

A few things I liked - it's a beautiful release. Illustrations/icons portray the emotion/theme/topic of the poem very nicely and give an amazing, coherent and cohesive style while also maintaining minimalistic approach. The poems are not hidden behind nice graphic - they complement each other nicely. The poems are light, they read easily, they are light, a little instructive/appreciative.

A few things I missed - the topic's of each poem are quite repetitive. The topic of love for mother and woman lover are noticeable and featured in almost every poem. And the love is always an ethereal aspiration or an object of praise. I would also loved to see different rhymes, choice of words that weren't that common or that the poet himself tried to dig deeper and find his own unique voice or style - so far for me the poems were quite common. I also suggest that author dove deeper into his personal experiences and used it as a base for a poem making them "stronger" and leaving a long lasting impact for a reader.

It's authors first book and I wish all the best in the future!

Divan of Shah by Shah Asad Rizvi is a collection of poems.

First, let me thank the author for approaching me and providing me a copy of his book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis and Opinions:

Although I occasionally read poetry, it is not my favorite genre of book.  However, the topics in this book were very light, and most had a "joyous" feel, mainly about love, and dancing, most very romantic.  However, none of them seemed very deep, and I had problems relating to them.

The author uses a lot of repetitive prose in his poems, which both pulls the reader into the poem, and sometimes drives me nuts.

So, I did like a few of the poems, but others did nothing for me.

Now, all poetry is (or should be)  written from the poet's heart, and therein lies the problem, because the words will always be open to interpretation, and interpreted by the reader.  If the reader is in a bad mood, the same poem may have a totally different "feel", than if they were on cloud nine.  So I have always felt it is very hard to judge a poem.

However, all that being said, I was asked for "my" review.  This one wasn't for me, and although all books are written from the author's heart, poetry is very personal, and I really had a hard time rating it.

If you are a poetry reader, give it a shot...

Divan of Shah is a collection of poetry and quotes. I was given the privilidge to read this collection of poetry by the author for my honest review.

I enjoyed several of the poems. In fact several were bookmarked for quick access to be reread. I think my absolutely favorite poems were 'Dance of Life' and 'Never.' I love the quotes that the author had between each poem. I felt this collection was very inspirational and intimate. The poems were different levels of love. I would definitely recommend this book as a great gift any lover of poetry.

I received an ebook copy of this in exchange for a review from the author. I am typically not a big reader of poetry but from time to time its nice to change things up a little. This collection of poetry is cleverly split between quotes and poems alternating per page which nicely breaks up the book and giving the reader a different dynamic. Centered mostly around love and creativity this poetry collection overall was very well put together.

I found some lovely pieces that I could relate too "Beloved" being my Favourite Poem in the collection and a Favourite quote of the collection being:

"Elevate your individuality to the status of a crown that serves no title"

My only 2 issues of this collection was firstly that some of the poems were starting to feel very similar in context and in some areas felt like it was the same message reworded.
Secondly; that this collection is designed mostly for a person with particular spiritual tastes in poetry which isn't really me. However if this is you I highly encourage you to read it as you will benefit far more than I could with this particular collection.

overall though it was a nice change for my use genre, it was light and hopeful.

I always been a fan of Shah poetry and it is being a delight to have a compilation of his poems in this book.
He writes mainly about Love, Dance and spirituality. Poems are classified by topics.
I found his poetry is soulful, catching deep desires of the human condition in his words. His style is full passion, sometimes using intrinsic words but easy to understand.
This is a book to scape the mundane and connect with soul and heart. It is specially a treasure for dance lovers, as his poetry about dance is so beautiful.

Thank you to the author for sending me a free review copy.

Alternating between longer poems and short wisdoms, Diwan of Shah is a collection of poems and wisdoms mainly on the beauty of love, the longing for a lost love to return and things to make sense again and the magic one can experience in dance.

Not following any particular sorting of topic, the collection is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster when read in order - going from swooning to desperation and back - but then again most titles allow for a determination of subject so one could specifically read just one particular kind of poems if needed.
As for the poems themselves, they're easily flowing, though not the rhymed kind of poems. Of course not every poem does speak to you in the same way but overall I did enjoy the majority of them, my absolute favorite being 'Meaning of love'.

And then the layout is just beautiful. A lot of thought must have gone into it and as a result the book would look very charming on any coffee table - both closed or open at any random page.

Divan Of Shah is a remarkable piece of poetry. It reflects the key aspects of life such as love and sorrow and how individuals perceive it from a certain point of view . The true beauty is sowed deep into the words and represents how life is journey with many highs and lows . The author beautifully describes how blind love can be when one is in it and how dreprieved and dark it can be when one loses it . It truly represents the irony love contains as we revell in love but never appreciate it's presence and only realise what it truly means when we lose it .This is the true beauty of this anthology as it represents the absolutes of love and the absence of it. I would highly recommend this book to read and am thoroughly waiting for the next anthology from the author would recommend to read for anyone. I would personally rate it a 5/5

Thankyou to the author for sending me a copy of this beautiful poetry book in exchange of an honest review!

"𝑶𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒖𝒃𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕. 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕."

"𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒆, 𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆."

This book carries a set of 106 beautiful poems that are somewhat relatable at a very minor level to me. Every poem belongs to love, loss, longing, heartbreak etc. Before every poem there's a quote.
Each poem is of different theme.
Series of poems are kept randomly.
Because of which it was tough to get through the emotion of it. Apart from the series issue each poem itself is beautifully written. With the smooth language of this poetry book, even a beginner can read it easily.

Giving it 3 stars because of the random arrangement of the poems which took the essence of poetry.

Firstly, thank you so much to the author who kindly sent me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!!

This is a poetry book with such a range of poems, including love and loss! The author is extremely talented and a fab writer.
Some of the poems really stuck with me and it was really lovely to read.
However, I just didn't find the majority of poems to be relatable to me - I couldn't relate to a lot of them and when looking for poetry I enjoy them more when I can relate to them - but obviously this is just a personal review/preference. The author is brilliant and so talented when writing poems but it just didn't relate to me on a level that other poems do, but that is just down to me and my personal poetry preference!

Thank you to the author again, it was a lovely read!!

I wanted to say thank you to the author for reaching out and gifting me this book. I enjoyed the poems. A silent dance- was a favorite of mine, It spoke to me about dancing from the heat and not for anyone but yourself, which is good advice. Believe in yourself first, then others will follow your lead. With out you, was another I liked, it was sad yet heartwarming, Such reverence for one so loved and missed. The poems were love stories, of heart ache, passion, or just as simple as being beloved. This was my first book of poems and I really enjoyed reading it.

The poet is a true maestro of words , he has expressed those feelings in love and intimacy which one is unable to express in words. He has given an altogether new meaning to ‘dance’ which is not just bodily but goes deep down to the soul . The poet takes you to a journey via a path where your mind has always been afraid to tread on but longed to take. Loosen your braces and let him take you to his mystic world of ecstasy, love, longing, desire and dance
A true master piece, a must read!!

Divan of Shah by Shah Asad Rizvi is a collection of more than 100 poems.
It covers a lot of areas that you normally find in poetry books like love and heartbreak but one of the most recurring themes is dance.
There are quite a few poems just dedicated to dancing.
So it was really refreshing to read something new.
All the poems are 1-2 pages long do it's not a lot to read.
If you are someone who loves reading poetry I'd definitely recommend it.

‘Divan of Shah’ offers a wide range of poetry about dance, love, longing and dreams. The thoughts the author shares with the reader feel quite intimate. They were also very transparent, which is both a strength and a weakness. The emotions of the poet were clear throughout the texts and that made them easy to read, but it sometimes left little hidden meaning for the reader to discover or to interpret. What I liked about this book was the dynamic between the poems and the variety of subjects. There was a flow of feelings that was sparked and Shah Asad Rizvi has a good eye for detail. While reading it’s easy to feel the passion this poet has for words. Overall an enjoyable read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much Shah for giving me a copy of your book! This is my first read for 2020 and I was not expecting to receive an arc this early in the year. I feel so honored!

I’ve read several poetry books before and I have to say that this is probably the first poetry book I’ve encountered that is overflowing with content. There’re a hundred and six poems in here. They are beautiful and easy to comprehend. I felt a connection to some of them, however, there are also some poems that felt a bit off for me. I appreciate that he writes so passionately about dance and it shows in his work. I just wish that the poems were arranged in a way that makes sense. I think they’re all jumbled but there are times where I feel as if there’s a pattern and it somehow tells a story and then it goes off and the pattern is broken.

Overall though I think that it’s good, but it could have been better with a few tweaks here and there. I think the author really loves what he is doing, and I would encourage for him to continue writing. I would love to suggest this book to my friends who love reading poetry books.

Thank you again, Shah! And well done.

I don't read a whole lot of poetry, but the author reached out to me on instagram and asked me to read his book and give an honest review. I'm so glad I accepted because this book is truly lovely! It was a very quick read, but a great one. The author has a beautiful way with words and there was so much passion in his poems that it was nearly tangible. My personal favorite was "This World," which speaks to the simplicity of love and how when in love nothing else seems important or necessary. I look forward to more from this author!

3.5 rounded to a 4
Although the flow of the poetry could be placed better, I really enjoyed this book. He writes with heart, sincerity and with experience. Can you dance with life, love, or heartache and still have hope and positivity? Read the Divan of Shah and let the author show how he can.

I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book of poetry. Thank you Shah Asad Rizvi.

Before I get into the review I would like to thank the authors for kindly reaching out, asking me if I'd like to review his book and providing me with the ebook. This is his first book and I wish him lots of luck with his future works!

This book as a gorgeous design and I can only imagine how beautiful the printed version looks. But to the poetry, it's what we're here for anyway. This is definitely modern poetry, but not entirely modern. There's definitely a touch of classic poetry with lots of rhymes and rythm and I loved that, it seemed like poems had a melody to them. It was beautiful and easy to read them.

The majority of these poems were about love which I don't mind as some people might, I think love is a beautiful subject to write about. But there was one love that I would like to point out, a love for one's mother. it was really nice to see poems dedicated to a mother and mother's love. As someone that has a good relationship with her mother, I found those poems beautiful and touching.

Fun thing about some poems, that made me love them so much, is that they felt like I was in some old movie. With tho people in the university falling in love, and he recites her poetry while they lay outside in the grass. And they're so in love. And everything is pink and perfect. This feeling is probably why I loved this collection so much. I didn't feel these poems because I had similar experiences, I felt them because the author made me feel how he feels, which is a skill of its own.

There's a mix of short and long poems in the book, so I'll share couple of short and my favorite long poem. I never share poems, but since this book is Shah Asad Rizvi's first ever poetry book I'll give you couple of poems I loved.

“To expect
is to disrespect
the unconditionality of love”

“Once you arrive
at the sanctuary of love,
questions and answers
finally meet”

“Even with a thousand
reasons to complain,
there will always remain
a blessing to express gratitude”

“When, when your heart called
Then, then my love arrived
And so, continued this tale of our lives

When, when you wailed in despair
Then, then I consoled your lips with joy
And so, continued this tale of our lives

When, when distances appeared in our paths
Then, then embrace of union brought us near
And so, continued this tale of our lives

Tale of our lives, that reflection of love
Tale of our lives, that bounty of trust
Tale of two, suffice of life
What more to ask of life, but to be with you”

Honest Review. (Not a paid review).

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy for me to review! :)

I have to say... I am not the biggest fan of poetry (shameful to admit as an English major haha). So when the author reached out for me to read their work and write a review, I was a little hesitant. I didn't want to review something I wasn't going to be confident about. But I was WRONG.

Divan of Shah was different and was so easy to read. The author writes beautifully and there were many poems that resonated with me throughout. I enjoyed it very much and was able to finish through it in one sitting! And then re-read it again! I appreciated the thought that went into the layout of the book. After each page, there is a break with a quote and then another poem. It was light and beautiful.

I specifically enjoyed the "Anthem of Dance" because I am a dancer, as well. So, it reminded me of this poem during my dance classes quite often. (Also, used this piece for my improvisation dance class!) I can't repeat myself enough saying how beautiful it was. Just every word and every line truly was awakening and refreshing.

Even if you aren't a lover of poems, I recommend checking out Divan of Shah. It is quick and easy to read and will make you smile due to the beauty within the work!

"When doubt is removed from belief, what you seek will start to follow"

First of all, I would like to thank the author for sending a copy my way in exchange for an honest review.

I am a big fan of poetry so I was ecstatic when the author asked me if I would like to review his book. Divan of Shah is a beautiful collection of 106 well-crafted poems. There are a lot of poems that really resonated with me. I particularly like the ones dedicated to mothers, it is just so sweet and endearing to read. Each piece is heartfelt as you can really feel the passion and dedication behind the words. The book format is an alternate between long, quality poems and concise poems.

My personal favorite is the one titled: And I Roam. The poem really speaks to me as it is about a person who is searching for someone, despite not having the security that he/she would ever find that person. I think the poem is open for interpretation; it is about a search. Maybe for a person or maybe for something else that your heart desires.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants a collection of poems with a little bit of everything in it: love, heartbreak, passion, etc.

Okay, so I have always been a fan of English prose. I haven’t read many poetic works except those, that are taught in school. So, when the writer Asad Shah, asked me to read his poetic collection for a review, I wasn’t so sure. So with a skeptical mind, I started reading his work. I was surprised that it was actually good, applaudable. The book is a collection of about 50 poems, encapsulating the theme of love, longing for the love lost, desire, union and hope.
The poet is thoughtful, reflective and empathetic in his writing... he writes,
~ Masks of smiles, worn each day
Behind them all, sadness remains skin
His writing is poetic, thematic and flowy. Each poem has stanzas that are connected to each other, almost like a symphony. Also, after each poem, there is a beautiful quote, that gives a good insight on writer’s literary ability.
The poems are short, easy and readable. All in all, it was a good read.
Thumbs up!!
PS: All of You and Looked for you were my favorite reads, because they somehow reminds me of God.

Divan of Shah by Shah Asad Rizvi ★★★★

I received this e-book from the author. This does not affect my review or opinion. All thoughts are my own and I'm being 100 percent honest. Thank you to Shah Asad Rizvi for providing me this e-book for reviewing purposes.

I am not someone who knows a lot about poetry, but I did like this book. You definitely get plenty of poems in the Divan of Shah. The topics are nice, but do get a little repetitive. The same themes keep coming back, which can be nice for some but boring and repetitive for others.

I enjoyed reading these poems and they definitely helped me calm down in during these difficult times. If you're looking for a nice poetry book to read during the quarantine I would recommend the Divan of Shah.

The layout of this poetry book is really pretty and I loved the whole aesthetic of it!

3.75/5 stars. I was given an ebook copy of this poetry collection in exchange for an honest review. I’ve always loved poetry. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t. In fact, I myself even write poetry. Anyways. It’s no surprise that I really enjoyed this. Honestly. The written style was very flowery but also not flowery? When I was reading these I kept feeling a magical element and I haven’t read many, if any, poetry collections with magical elements, Personally, I would definitely recommend this poetry collection to anyone that enjoys poetry, writes poetry, or is just interested in poetry.

I’d highly recommend this poetry book , Divan Of Shah by Shah Asad Rizvi. This authors writing is very delicate and wise, healing. The poetry he writes is about how life’s a dance, and to never take it, or love for granted. He writes with passion that’ll instantly put a smile on your face, and his words are passionate and sincere. If you’re looking for a good poetry book that’ll brighten your day and give you a positive vibe and outlook on life, this would definitely be a book I’d recommend to pick up.
