"All of the characters . . . look cozy enough to cuddle. Readers will especially be drawn to Mama Mouse, who is huggably plump and convincing in her love for her child." — SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
Making their way home one evening, Little Mouse and his mother see other baby animals and their parents, all settling down for the night. Mama Seal says she’ll dive as deep as the deepest ocean for her pups. Daddy Frog claims he’ll jump as high as the sky and bring back the juiciest bugs. And Mama Rabbit will dig the deepest, most secret burrow to keep her little ones safe and warm. "What special, special babies," sighs Little Mouse. What could his mama ever do to show him how special he is? Jan Fearnley’s humorous and endearing bedtime story captures the unique bond between parent and child - and reassures little listeners how very special they are.
3.5 Stars This book is so sweet, it is giving me a cavity!! It is a really sweet mother child book. The pictures are nice and the story is a good subject for kids that need to feel loved and secure!
I didn't know baby rabbits were called kittens? Can someone help be here?? WEIRD
Thanks wikipedia for clearing this up "A male rabbit is called a buck, and a female is called a doe. A baby rabbit is called a kit, which is short for kitten. Rabbits have a gestation period of around 31 days. The female can have up to 12-13 kits, very rarely litters as big as 18 and as small as one. A lovely, reassuring story for young children, where a Mother Mouse tells her child that she will love him no matter what, even when she's cross. The illustrations really make this story as they show a variety of animal families as they settle down for the night. Despite the simplicity of the storyline which might make it appear as if this book would not have reread value, the illustrations have lots of hidden details which could be interesting to spend some time with. I could also see this becoming a bedtime favourite because of the comforting message.
I love this book! When it’s time for the story books to come out at bedtime, this would be among ,y top five books. The author’s story as well as her lush illustrations, create a setting for young children to learn about the habits of animals and how they care for each other.
Per Tunnell- this book has good quality. There are characters that are real and believable. There are frogs, rabbits, mice, etc. The book has repetitive lines and the tone is loving.
Another lovely book that I think children will love. I loved reading it as a parent to my child. Great way to express parental love and promote self worth within a family structure
Today I was at the library with my youngest son 22months. He was intrigued by all the books on the shelves. As a new talker he kept saying over and over again, "books Momma books!" We sat down together to find some books...when he found this one! Is it ironic that this book is about a Momma & her baby?
A great bedtime story for children of any age! "Making their way home one evening, Little Mouse and his mother see other animals settling their babies down for the night. In one lullaby, Daddy Frog claims he'll jump as high as the sky and bring home the juiciest bugs. And Mama Rabbit tells of digging the deepest, most secret burrow to keep her little ones safe and warm. 'What special, special babies,' sighs Little Mouse. Could he ever be that special?"
I would love to own my own copy of this book. I would use it inside and outside the classroom! Such a tenderhearted book! Each child is special to their parents & that parent should do anything possible to keep them safe each night! Each child needs to know how special they are!
Mamma mouse and little mouse are making their way home to bed. As they walk, Little Mouse notices all the mommy and daddy animals who are getting their children ready for bed and remarks that the children must be very special. Mamma mouse says "Just like you" but Little Mouse wonders if that can be true because his momma is so small compared to the other animals.
Best Line- "The red evening sun snuggled down to the hillside, resting on purple pillows of clouds."
This was a good story about how moms and dads care for their kids. While Mama Mouse and Little Mouse are walking home, they see all the others animals and what the parents say they would do for their children. Little Mouse then asks since his mom can't do all the things that the other parents promise, maybe he isn't special. She assures him there is plenty she can do and he determines that being able to do all those things must make him very special.
Soft and simple illustrations compliment this sweet story of a young mouse and his mother. The young mouse begins to realize that many of the other animals do very similar things with their families just like he and his mother do. But it also points out that there is a uniqueness to us as individuals and in our own relationships.
A great book for preschoolers and younger. The illustrations are adorable and the simple language was easily repeatable my my 3 yr olds. No educational value except for reading and instilling the love of books in your child! Highly recommended for the smaller children.
I love this book! My mom read it to me when I was younger. This is also the book that I decided to read to my first classroom! It is a very good story and tells the story of a little mouse and a mama mouse on their way home. The little mouse questions whether or not they are as good as the other animals but the mama mouse explains how much she cares for her baby. This teaches a very good lesson and shows young readers that they matter. This will most definitely be in my classroom when I’m older!
