The Carolina Caper: An Adventure Guild Story

The end of summer can be sooo boring, especially for budding archaeologists.
Stuck at home just weeks before the new school year and with zero chance of even one last mini vacation, Desmond Elleryby is dying for some excitement. So are his two best friends, siblings Corin and Diego Townsend.
They try entertaining themselves by learning to fly some of Desmond’s new drones, but nothing compares to their recent escapades in Italy and finding the lost treasure of Julius Caesar.
So, when Diego learns that tantalizing artifacts from a homegrown American mystery lie close by in a local museum, the kids are bursting for one final adventure before school.
Their task? Examine a group of ancient stones to find clues to the disappearance of an old English colony that vanished five hundred years ago from the North Carolina coast, the famous Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. Legend says one of those disappeared still speaks from beyond the grave in clues she left engraved on those rocks.
Unfortunately for the kids, some very bad dudes stumble upon their mission: ruthless criminals who want to steal those same artifacts—and the hidden, powerful truth those relics might conceal.
To outwit the enemy for a shot at solving this centuries-old riddle, Corin, Desmond, and Diego band together yet again as the Adventure Guild to ride out on another heart-stopping adventure.
USA Today best-selling author Ernest Dempsey again joins up-and-coming writer Chandler Dempsey to expand their rich, vibrant world of ancient mysteries, hidden truths, and three of the youngest, bravest treasure hunters you’ve ever met: the Adventure Guild.

Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.

He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.

His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.

He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.

Once again Ernest Dempsey has teamed up with his nephew to create this very enjoyable adventure featuring a group of young friends and their minder/bodyguard (The adventure guild) who manage to get involved in an investigation into the theft of a historic stone tablet.
The stakes are raised when a connection between the stone and some strange floating lights is made, and the realisation that a crack team of agents are also investigating the phenomenon.
I really like that although this book is actually aimed at young people, it is still a very good adventure story, and the lead characters actually behave like kids, not miniature adults, meaning that readers of all ages can enjoy it.
I also enjoyed the participation of the IAA team from Ernest's Sean Wyatt series, which was cleverly used to explain how some of the research was carried out.
I received an advance copy of the book and have voluntarily written this honest review.

This fourth story in the Adventure Guild series is without a doubt the best yet. While I have to admit I’m a history nerd and much of what is contained in this story happens to be events I’ve been interested in for years. The Dempseys have woven American history events from colonial times, World War II and present day with modern day intrigue, action and adventure into a story line that is near spellbinding. Along with the strong story line, the main characters in the Adventure Guild stories are very well developed and each have their shortcomings which adds to their believability.
If you have read the previous stories this is a must read, if you are new to the Adventure Guild stories, The Carolina Caper could be read as a stand-alone story but be advised this story may lead to reading the other three. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.

Carolina Caper

I have read almost all of Ernest Dempsey's novels and I love them all. In fact I wish he would write faster. I especially love his Sean Wyatt novels. Unfortunately they come very slowly. I make certain that I pre-order all his new novels so I have them as soon as they come out. The only derogatory remarks I have is that in quite a few places ,key words are left out. You can fill them in from your own knowledge but it would be nice if they were there. GREAT Novels. I love them.

Really enjoyable mystery!! Love the young adults in the Adventure Guild! They are so believable! The adventure is an unusual one, but the writers are so talented that I felt involved in it! Really great book not marred by cursing and sex!

Desmond, Diego and Corn manage to get themselves in trouble just by being curious and following through with the mystery of the lost colony of Roanoke. Interesting story line, well written and well developed characters. Looking forward to next installment!
