I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

*hurridly returns it back to Kindle Unlimited* I love the oriceran universe books, in fact, this is the first time I've rated a book in that universe 1 star. Ladies and Gentlemen, I somehow finished this book but not without skipping some pages and eventually skipping to the end. Can I get some applause, please? This book hurt my eyes, every word felt like I was trying to lift a brick, the writing was chunky and slow. Every page just FELT.LIKE.A.CHORE. I also didn't particularly care for any of the characters at all and found the pacing to not suit the book, we get some tidbits of information about Atlanteans (Took you long enough) Not enough to make me want to continue this series, unfortunately. I appreciate the authors writing books in weeks but I think with more time, this book could have been perfected.
Note: To the Authors, if you're reading this, please don't consider this as being mean against you.
Not bad, but a little predictable. Liked the characters and the setting of the Tavern. No romance for the mc so that’s great, and what I assume might be a hidden legacy for Cali because certain events happen that usually accompany the lost royal, or other important person trope.
I not only read a lot, I'm a sucker for a great deal. That means that I purchase books that go on my "future" read list. So I'm taking a break, buying less and reading my back log. I'm having fun! I have read TR before with his Special Ops books. I really enjoyed them! That said I think this series fits my reading tastes better like this series better! Many more books to read in this series, I'm going to really enjoy them. Peace
Wonderful story packed full of magic and mundane humanity. The tale has many twists and turns with just the right amount of snark thrown in to move the story along. The author provided some world building and character development. It's ends with a cliffhanger to draw on nicely along to the need to continue to the next installment in this series.
Great start to a new series in the Oriceran Universe.
Towards the end of book 8 of the Federal Agents of Magic series, Nylotte did a deal with someone for information and the payment for this information was to break someone out of Trevilsom prison on Oriceran.
I was squeeing when Nylotte made an appearance and broke Tanyith out - I do hope she makes more appearances in this series cos she's one badass Drow and now that Diana and co have gone into hiding, she will find herself at a loose end with no one to train.
The main characters are all likeable and I'm sure we will find out more about their histories in future books.
I have a sneaking suspicion the detective, Kendra, has a secret she's hiding - is she magical? Time will tell.
Cali is an intriguing, compelling character. Trouble seems to follow her. Gang members spy on her. A detective leans on her for information. Being Kidnapped and assaulted are par for the course. I like the action, humor, and flirtation. I look forward to the next book.
A kickass heroine, a slightly cagey ex-con, a wide dwarf, and a magical creature combine their effort to keep the peace. Although the first two have secondary personal concerns to get closure from the past. I highly recommend this book to all who love a great urban fantasy. Enjoy!
Excellent start to a new Oriceran based story. Characters seem well rounded and extremely likeable. Most new series start slow whilst the story and background builds, but this was straight into adventure, bodes well for the next one.
An awesome new series set in New Orleans. Magic behind the scenes. Stroll through the city with Cali. Magical busking, martial arts, and a smartassed dragon. A new adventure you’re going to love.
An awesome start to a brand new series, Scions of Magic! A truly worthy read. I can't wait to see what happens next! Do yourself a favor, it you love the Oriceran books, and pick this one up. Keep churning out the awesome stories, guys!
What a great beginning to a new series! I liked most of the characters and can’t wait to find out more about them, looking forward to the next book! Thanks!
This is a fantastic start to a new series and filled with adventure fun banter and a dragon? People making new friends and allies and mayhem along the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book of the Scions of Magic series!
Cali is a fun hero for this opening book, & I love that, although she's half Atlantian, she really does have a sense of fun.
The people around her - those that she looks up to, and learns from - are all great characters in their own rights, and I really look forward to learning.more about them all - especially Zarden, or Zeb, as he prefers to be known as.The pacifist Dwarf, with a Battle Axe, called Valerie!
Cali also has a Draksa - a mix of lizard & dragon - called Fyre, who she bonded with for life! Fyre can shape change, and teases Cali, a LOT!
Cali's only living relative - that she knows of - is Emalia, an elderly fortune teller, who is also related to Cali's Mother, through her Father's line. Emalia is training Cali in her Magical powers.
Cali is also training in the Martial Arts. Her Sensei, Ikehara Goro, gives Cali free lessons, in return for her helping out cleaning and tidying the building that she, and his other pupils, train in. Cali respects him greatly.
In this story, Cali meets Tanyith, also a part Atlantian, who had been imprisoned in Trevilson Prison for crimes he didn't commit. He was rescued from the prison by the Drow, Nylotte.
Both Cali and Tanyith are looking into the gangs currently affecting their lives, in New Orleans, and decide to help each other to find out the truths they both seek.
Tanyith needs to know who in his previous gang, had framed him to rot in prison, and Cali needs to know who murdered her parents.
Detective Kendra Barton, NOPD, is in Specialized Investigations, and she and Cali meet quite early in the story. I like Kendra, and hope that she and Cali become friends.
This whole story took my attention from beginning to end, and I really love how convoluted, and involving, it is.
There are so many layers to Cali's story, and I'm really looking forward to learning more about her, and the people she is close to.
So, I'm going to finish this review - I loved this book - and get on to starting book two of this series: 'Mystical Alley Groove'!
Once I've finished this second book, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about it!
For the most part, this was a fairly decent book, and I liked it. The only thing is, there's absolutely zero closure. Normally, you'll get a few threads tied up by the end of a book, or you'll get a sneak peek of what may be coming in the next book, but it almost always comes with a solid resolution to *something*... This book didn't do that. Sure, it gave you the whole look what's coming next thing, but it did it in such a way as to make it completely ignore any possible threads hanging around for the book. Absolutely nothing got resolved by the end of this book, not even the main character got more than a nod to her heritage, otherwise, the second book could begin with everyone at the same place the first one started, and nobody would even know the difference. I feel like this book could have closed at least one major plot line, but chose not to by passing it off to the next book instead, and doing it in such a way that it didn't even resolve the problem, just postponed it for another day. So it feels like there was this big build up, then just poof, nothing. The whole book just peters out without so much as a see ya later. Very disappointing.
The characters are interesting. There are lots of questions and mysteries about the characters and their backgrounds. In the case of the main character, she seems to be a clueless as the reader, and that is a GOOD thing.
This books has some real meat in the plot. The interactions between the gangs and the main characters are interesting. The varied interests by all of the concerned parties and the actions created by those interests keep us guessing.
This is the beginning of a series that I think will be well worth my time.
Great start to this series. I really liked Cali, and I think her powers or cool. My favorite thing in this book that was fry. He was awesome and good for a lot of laughs. Can't wait to see how this series progress is. Cali seems to have a nack for getting herself into trouble. Let's hope her merry band of misfits helping her are able to keep themselves and Cali safe. Cali is a strong, independent and sassy woman. I like strong female MCs. Told from her POV. Based off book one, series will need to be read in order. Ends in sort of s cliffhanger. On to book two.
Another AWESOME series with another group of AWESOME characters! Calise is different from the other Oriceran heroes in several ways but the same sense of justice guides her. Martha Carr and Michael Anderle along with T.R.Cameron again bring the incredible magic!
Liking this series and the characters so far...and the dragon lizard sidekick is great! NOLA is always a fun location for a story and getting more info on the Atlanteans is very satisfying for some of those who have read other series in this universe. Can't wait to read in...
I have enjoyed all of the books set in the oriceran universe, and this was no exception. The characters are interesting and help expand the depth of the universe. There is a bunch of action and the descriptions of everything worked really well for me. I recommend this book.
An amazing opening...you start the tale at a flat out sprint...and never slow down. Dwarves, atlanteans, magic, mystical creatures, betrayal, family....so much that means you will not be able to put it down...and you are going to want to continue the journey and see what happens next!!
This book really pulled me into it. All the different characters involved have their own intensity to keep you reading. I really look forward to more books with these characters.
Really, following Oriceran series is like a condensed introduction to Texas and Vegas area. I'm really glad at last some of the Author focused somewhere else!
It was fun to read at some points, but I simply couldn't fully connect with the writing nor the characters. I didn't care a lot about them, to be honest. I'm still considering if I should pick up the second book in this series or not.
It started out a little slow but picked up speed as it went along. Not sure how the pieces/players got together but it is interesting so far. Love the lizard!!!!!
