Ta tåget: på spåret genom historien, samtiden och framtiden
Som hängiven resenär sedan tidigt 80-tal var Per J Andersson en av de första som vurmade för tåget. Äntligen har debatten hunnit ikapp. I Ta tåget tar han oss med genom tågets historia, via de tidiga järnvägarna, höghastighetstågens revolution och allt däremellan. Det är en personlig bok och på samma gång en historisk odyssé, en klimatbok och en hoppfull uppmaning att inte sluta resa - bara göra det hållbart.

Han har skrivit ett flertal guide- och reportageböcker, samt dokumentärromanen New Delhi Borås den osannolika berättelsen om indiern som cyklade till kärleken i Sverige, hittills översatt till tolv språk. Come pendolare (anche se ormai da marzo sono in smart working, o lavoro agile che dir si voglia) h o un rapporto contrastante con i treni. Credo nessuno ami prenderli per lavoro, e combattere contro ritardi, pulizia sommaria, sovraffollamento, scioperi, aria condizionata mal funzionante (ma solo d'estate, d'inverno è più facile che manchi il riscaldamento). Unico vantaggio: il tempo extra per leggere.
Ma quando si tratta di viaggio, è tutta un'altra cosa. Che sogno percorrere una tratta antica e gloriosa, magari impiegandoci giorni, guardando i paesaggi mutare, attraversando un intero continente, senza fretta. O girovagare per l'Europa con l'InterRail, zaino in spalla e spirito d'avventura. Cose che, purtroppo, in un paio di settimane di ferie a disposizione non è possibile fare, così si prende un aereo e si arriva subito alla meta. Ma che bello sarebbe avere il tempo per fare come l'autore di questo libro, e attraversare con tutta calma l'India, gli Stati Uniti, arrampicarsi sulle Alpi. Andersson racconta dei propri viaggi, del micromondo che si crea all'interno di un treno in cui degli sconosciuti dividono per molto ore o anche per giorni gli spazi ristretti; accenna a come treni e ferrovie abbiano cambiato la civiltà e influito sulla storia, e sottolinea la sostenibilità ecologica del treno, e le buone ragioni per cui andrebbe incentivato e sviluppato.
Le parti noiose del libro sono quelle in cui si sofferma sulla gestione del trasporto ferroviario nella sua patria, la Svezia, ma per il resto è una piacevole lettura, che fa venire voglia di saltare un un treno e partire... e gentilmente Andersson si premura anche di fornire tutte le informazioni utili al caso, come e dove prenotare in tutto il mondo, tratte e tempi di percorrenza, consigli per tratte spettacolari. Sapete che l'agenzia britannica Railbookers organizza un viaggio in treno intorno al mondo della durata di 55 giorni? (14.172 sterline, compresi tour, hotel e 51 pasti... più che altro colazioni. This was an informative book, with a lot of interesting news, bits of info, and anecdotes about the story of the railways and trains.
Not all the chapters were interesting in the same ways, some of them were a bit boring, but it is more a thing about personal tastes and interest than a fault of the books. For example, I didn't really care a lot about the chapter in which he talks about traveling by train with children. The chapter wasn't so interesting for me, because it is not something I am interested in at the moment, but I am sure that if you are a parent in need of ideas this would be useful.
I appreciated a lot the more historical ones because we can know more about faraway places and things that are part of our imagination (like the far west, for example!).

Questo libro mi ha fatto scoprire che esiste davvero un "Polar Express", la Arctic Circle Route, che viaggia su una tratta di diciotto ore da capolinea a capolinea, che porta in luoghi dove è facile vedere l'aurora boreale, che un biglietto per tre giorni sul percorso costa 30€ circa e che io desidero partire domani.

Som alltid välskrivet och engagerande. Hade läst en del av kapitlen när de förkom i Vagabond, men de är värda att upprepas. Tågsemester nästa, hoppas jag!

En utmärkt bok! Per J. Andersson blandar egna upplevelser med fakta om järnvägens dåtid, nutid och framtid. Som svensk tågresenär blir man emellanåt förbannad över hur eftersatt svensk järnväg är.
Boken fungerar för övrigt bra för inspiration till framtida resor. Det enda som egentligen saknas är en tyngre kritik av järnvägen t.ex. höghastighetståg. Det nämns men texten är mesta fylld av en romantisk underton till järnvägen. Inte mig emot, jag är numera en hängiven proselyt.
