I shiver at the sudden chill running through my veins. I glance down the hall to the main room where the shadows seem to be growing thicker and darker by the second, causing the daylight outside to appear as if it’s fading. Swallowing the lump of fear in my throat, I take a deep breath. “O! The One Hidden in Shadow Lies in the Netherworld. This door shall remain sealed eternally, to keep The Shadow within. Beware any who try to open, or it shall be thy doom. If the seal be broken, may the gods have mercy upon us all.” I peer into the shadows, the sound of my footsteps reverberate down the stairway. There’s a heavy sense of foreboding—dense and full like the humid air after a rainstorm. Everything in me repels from the door...screams for me to run. But at the same time a strong curiosity pulls me down...down into the dark hole below. Is it the burial chamber from my daydreams? And if so, what evil could possibly be inside? Ancient beliefs about the gods and fear of evil are all too common. I’ve never been the superstitious sort, but I wonder...could there be truth to any of it? Of course not. It’s just ancient interpretations of things we know to be science. Right?
Archeologist Azure Rivers doesn't need anyone. At least that's what she's spent the past twenty years telling herself. But the reappearance of an old acquaintance, daydreams she can't explain, and the discovery of the mummy of an ancient evil threaten to change that. Colliding along the way with romance, fate, and a long lost dream, will Azure learn to trust others or be forever alone in misery?
From a very young age, Sandy Ann Allred has loved reading. She would stay up late into the night to finish a book (especially if it was a ghost story or a supernatural mystery). She has been writing and creating just as long. Throughout school, she took every creative writing class available. Before publishing her book, she has been a popular fanfiction writer since 2007. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she grew up both in the majestic desert there and the evergreen forests of Ferndale, Washington. Her passions are writing, singing, photography, Ancient Egypt, and most of all, her family. She currently lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico amongst beauty, humor, and wonderful chaos with her husband and their three adorable little boys.
This is a great book. I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the Trilogy. I found the subject to be interesting, so much that I want to do more reading about the many Women and Men who spend their tim carefully digging in dirt to find pieces of history long forgotten. Thanks Sandy, I do love your first book.
I don't think I've ever read another book with such compelling mystery. I felt like I couldn't stop reading until I had more answers, and the book stayed entertaining while I waited for those answers. It was a very definite page-turner. I loved the characters; they were complex, flawed, and very much lovable. I can't wait for the next one!
I haven’t been so excited to read a book in a while! The shadows tomb gave me the page-turning adventure and plot that I love, with a surprising (may I add, steamy) romance! The main character Azure Rivers has mysterious “daydreams” about an ancient Egyptian family, and not even her closest friends can understand why. She goes on an unexpected journey to learn more about herself as she sees through the eyes of the ancient past, where danger and magic threaten everything she knows.
I fell in love with all of the characters in this book, each in their unique way. All of them felt real to me, but I especially connected with Roni, Azure's best friend and the “mother” of the group. I love when I can’t predict a story, and this book kept me guessing and wondering what was going on until the very end! And, of course, I can’t forget to mention the insane butterflies I got reading about Azure and her long-lost friend. 😉
I was so impressed by this story. If romance is your go-to genre, this book is much more than that. Once you get a taste of the intensity behind a book like The Shadow’s Tomb, you’ll find a genre you never knew you needed. I’m itching for the other two books in the trilogy! HURRY UP!
Enjoyed reading about Azure's adventures. Not only in her profession but in learning about herself. Looking forward to seeing where those visions lead!
