I wish I had read this book before I got surgery. I’m over a year post-op now, and it would have been useful to have some of this stuff back then. If you are pre-op (or even post-op like I am), this will be worthwhile to have and read.
This cookbook that prepares the reader for having bariatric surgery. What foods to eat, and lifestyle change that needs to be done before you undertake the surgery. There are examples of what to eat and what to avoid. What you can and can't drink. Prior to surgery, you need to quit smoking or using tobacco as there are risks if you continue, plus no alcohol. There are 10 weeks post-op meal plans and shopping lists to help the person who has had the surgery. The recipes are easy to follow, with a post-op serving suggestion such as full liquid, puree, soft foods, and general diet. Plus the recipes range from early post-op foods to desserts and they sound pretty good. I am not reviewing this book for myself but for my sister who is living with extreme pain and has to lose weight before she could have the bariatric surgery. Paging through it, I am finding that this book would be perfect but looks like a totally different lifestyle that you would have to be serious about to be successful in your weight loss journey.
I have six grandsons and four of them seem to have surgery on a regular basis for their deviated septum's and one for his bi-lateral cleft lip and palette so this cookbook was of real interest to our family. We missed being able to use the recipes before the surgery this last time but have decided we're going to use the timeline and recipes for the next surgery. We've tried some of the recipes and although some of them weren't a favorite we did find them palatable. We thought it would be a great asset in the healing process.
This book made me less fearful of the bypass surgery I am going to have soon. I would recommend this book to anyone considering gastric bypass surgery.
Very helpful tool when you aren't sure what to make or how much to have. I have a paperback as well in my kitchen because I love having the actual book.
Lot of pre op information, as well as post op food suggestions. Well structured and easy to follow. Would recommend for anyone in the process of lifestyle change.
My wife is pre-op and wanted to try some recipes to see what she would enjoy eating post-op. Most of the recipes in this cookbook are quick and easy for meal prep. Even better is they are recipes our family will enjoy.
