I am a big fan of horror films but don't normally go for scary stories, so it was fun to read something different to what I am used to.

I really liked the variety of topics in this book. Zombies, spiders, possession, murder, the list goes on and it made the book much more interesting.

As the saying goes, you can't please everyone. We all have our own tastes in books so I started this one knowing it may not all be my cup of tea. My enjoyment of the stories varied. Some I was really engrossed in, while others I wasn't as drawn to. Some of the stories go into gruesome detail so they aren't all for the faint hearted. But for me, I weirdly enjoyed it. The details definitely add to the terror!

I really liked how all the stories ended. If you are hoping for a happily-ever-after kind of book, this isn't for you.

I rarely read short stories but 20 horror shorts from four authors (only one of whom I'd read before) at an extremely low price and all for charity was too good to overlook. And I'm glad I went for it!!
Yes a couple are average but I took something from pretty much every story. My favourites were
After Life
Double Helix
Touch & Go
Pillar Box (my God I'll be careful next time I post a letter!!!!)
Zom
But a special mention to Black Friday which could be closer to reality then we'd like to admit (Although hopefully not!).
There are some genuinely creepy and gut wrenching moments not to mention some neat twists and the whole thing had the "just one more story before I go to bed/work etc" feel about it.
Highly recommended for anyone who likes quick reads and/or horror.

Four writers each present five short stories, short enough to read when having a coffee break, each with enough punch to make a disturbing impact…

The great thing about short story collections is that you can always dip in wherever your mind takes a fancy. I was originally going to write a line on each story because each one had its merits but then I found myself giving too much away and I want you to read and enjoy them as much as I did! So here's my highlights. You'll find I haven't outlined any of the stories because as I said, I wouldn't want to give away anything. And this is definitely worth the read.

Mark Walker presents “Creepy Stories”. His stories have plenty of the gore factor (just my kind of horror!). I particularly enjoyed “Spider” and The Apple of my Eye”, because of the added humour arising from twists. I think “The Apple of my Eye” would make a good short film or audio.

Rachael Howard gives us “Sinister Stories”. Her stories reminded me of various horror films I have enjoyed. For example "Mother" had a certain creature also found in “Slither” (this story was my favourite of her collection) and “Incubator” reminded me a little of “The Island”. The parallels I drew with films in no way detracted from my enjoyment of these stories. It would be interesting to know if she was inspired by the films mentioned or not!

Steve Pool's collection was titled “Dark Stories”. Although still loaded with visual snippets of gore,
his stories had some interesting ends. My highlight was “Worklife” because we all know someone a bit like “Whitehead” and the reveal towards the end was unexpected.

Last and certainly not least, Emma Pullar with her set of “Scary Stories”.
“Pillar Box” is a gripping story with twists – there's more to the what lurks beneath than first appears. “Black Friday” is a wry look at the craziness of sales and I just love that last line in that story which so characterises the British public. “The Collectors” has a creepy edge to it – woe betide latecomers! I loved the tug of war in “Demon Me”. My favourite from her collection was “Zom”. Not just because I love zombie stories but for the punchy end.

Great stories for a Great Charity.

I don’t read short stories very often but this seemed great idea for me. I do like horror and had a busy time ahead so little bite size stories were ideal. All except one thing I kept thinking just one more.

There is 20 stories by 4 different authors and with a wide range of topics such as zombies, ghosts and spiders just to name a select few for everyone to enjoy.

Spiders are a fear of mine and think that’s the one that will stay with me for a while.

Although the stories gripped me to varying degrees I enjoyed them all. They are very descriptive and gruesome so not for the faint hearted that’s to be sure but that’s what I loved most about them.

If I had to pick a favourite I think it would be Black Friday as it also brings the memories of when I see crazy shoppers, especially through the holidays. It meant I was able to picture it very easily happening in a very disturbing but enjoyable way.

I would recommend to anyone who likes horror stories especially those short on time and can’t read much.

A great collection of short horror stories you can dip into whenever you want. Some are creepy, some are gory, and there's something for everyone who loves horror.
It's not easy to create a short story that pulls you in and keeps you reading, but these authors have managed to do that!
And even better, proceeds go to a cancer charity - so you get a great read and help donate money to a good cause at the same time.

Uuuuuugh...that's the sound of goosebumps running up and down my spine. A collection of 20 very good (and quite a few excellent) horror stories, not of the "psychological thriller" or "slasher fest" mould, but those good old fashioned horrors that stay with you and linger at the edges of your sleep and make you go uuuuuugh! Read with the light on!

Amazing collection! I usually use short stories as a small break between books but I got so hooked on this I read it all at once. All of the stories aren't for everyone but every horror fan will find at least one author for them. I finished it a few weeks ago and I'm still itching from one of the stories! Fantastic little read.

I do love a good short story collection, especially a creepy one, and this collection has 20 scary little morsels - some more unsettling and disturbing then others, but all together good fun.
Recommended for anyone who likes their horror bite sized - and for a great cause!

I was left feeling slightly underwhelmed by this collection of short stories. Some of them did have a good theme to the story but I felt they lacked in suspense and scare factor. Having said that, I think this is just purely down to my personal preference and the type of books that I’m used to reading and because I’m used to reading full novels, they obviously have far more tension and suspense building up in the stories, that the short stories left me feeling short changed. Like I say, it’s down to my personal preference and I’m sure if you like short stories, this would suit you.
