Elves are the undisputed masters of the world. Sun Elf Kings rule with impunity. Moon Elf squires and servants are their right hands. Sea and Forest Elves roam the wilds both protecting the lesser races while keeping them properly in line. Even Dark Elves, feared and hated by their own brethren, are considered superior in every way.
From the earliest time of his life, Ajax was granted the dubious honor to be trained as a "mud-knight", a human granted privileges and treated with small scraps of honor in exchange for helping defend his Elf King's realms from orcs and other monster invaders. But when he learns his King intends to unlock a fell, dangerous magic by killing a helpless soul, the knight casts aside his vows of servitude, steals away the enslaved soul, and becomes an errant roaming the land in hopes of setting that soul free.
But his King is not the only one who craves this power, and there are other Sun Elf Kings who are just as merciless. Ajax's only hope for salvation is to gain the trust and support from the last people who he ever thought he would ask: other elves. The only way they will survive is to embrace the trust, devotion and love that builds between them.
And even that might not be enough when the anger of Kings has been roused.
* * * * * * * This full-length novel contains fantasy style action, adventure, magic and violence. There are also explicit scenes of descriptive sex, which includes harem elements and all sorts of naughtiness.
Surprisingly good Not Gamelit, RPGlit, or Isekei. There are several XXX sex scenes, but otherwise this is nearly classical Fantasy. Well constructed plot. The female characters are not carbon copies of each other (still a bit thin). The book is a good balance between story and smut, and the smut is pretty good. The MC is is balanced, not to preachy, not a scumbag anti-hero, and certainly not that tired old "It's wrong to have two lovers" trope. The numerous sex scenes make sense when and where they happen within the context of the story. This isn't Herald of Shalia good, but I'm impressed.
I've never touched a Shawn Keys book. People I follow and trust have given his books bad reviews so I wrote him off. I went into this book with one hand holding my nose and the other hovering over the Eject button. I did not expect to get far, but Damn if this book didn't win me over pretty quick. Once again, This isn't outstanding. -It's just pretty good. ----------------------------------------- -The rest is me trash talking that Horrible cover - feel free to skip- It would be a lie to say that ghastly cover was the second thing that almost stopped from reading this book. It was absolutely the first thing that almost stopped me from reading this book. Shawn Keys name on the cover was the second thing. I tell you I only took a second look because I have a wee goblin fetish (only a fraction of the size of my Orc girl fetish) and those freaky leering faces on the cover look way more like goblins than elves. Yeah I get that's supposed to be candle/lantern light and that effects the color scale, AND that the definitely green one is a sea-elf, but... they don't look elvish to me. They look photo-shopped, and that's my second problem here. Who photoshops a friend's face onto the cover a smutty book? and as identifiable characters who are going to preform some seriously lewd acts? Now I know why the sun elf princess isn't on the cover. Did those ladies know and approve of their likenesses being used in this way? ...And just how would that conversation go? "You wanna be on my new book cover? Yeah? Do you wanna be the thieving hoe, or the one who loves to get her booty-hole stretched out?" Are these girls friends of the Author, or the cover artist? Because if these girls actually inspired the characters from real life I feel a much more fitting tribute would have been to have painted a flattering picture of them. -Don't judge a book by it's cover. yeah-yeah, I didn't. I gave this book a chance despite it's cover. but bad covers bug the hell out of me. Especially bad covers on good books.
Simply put, if you like elves you will like this book. A great amount and care and detail has been put into the lore in the novel. Not only are the elves described in thorough physical detail, but their culture, customs, and history is as well. The variety of different sub-groups of elves Sun-Elves, Dark Elves etc, was a joy to learn about and each female elf companion felt distinct. Not only though personality and actions but with dialect and knowledge.
The MC was a little less interesting, but still considerably well written. It's very easy for musclebound barbarians to amount to little more than a wall of meat with a big weapon (pun intended) but Ajax was insightful, intelligent, and curious to the world and people around him. I had no issue with his POV.
The plot is fairly straightforward but I enjoyed the mystery aspects instead of it being too generic of a fellowship quest. Fight scenes were pretty good and sex scenes were effective!
I will be checking out the next in the World Walker series!
I read one of these types of books in between serious books , sci fi, short works , etc and they are all mostly the same. This book however is a new twist with a well developed and thought out bit of world building. Were there some grammatical errors? Yes but not enough to distract from the store and the charming characters presented here. Get cracking Mr Keys, I need the next installment please .
The story in its own right was very entertaining even without all the personal interactions. I always enjoy stories involving elves and this one was not at all disappointing. The only disappointment was that I now have to wait for the next volume. In the meantime I recommend this book to those who like adventure and romance.
As with so many other authors, Shawn Keys has left the reader hanging! He wrote a very good book, then writes continued in the book " To The Edge Of Creation ". Well, just try to find the continuation. It is not there. How very disappointing. Chances are I'll not be reading any more of his books!
Good as far as harem books go, as the women are all competent and complementary to the group, and the MC is a character I can see them being interested in. Overall writing is good, so the not-so-strong plot wasn't a complete liability. The sequel has potential to be very interesting, so I'll be checking it out.
Mr. Keys is an excellent new author. His voice is unique and extremely expressive. The world he creates is fantastic And all the characters dynamic. The plot does along and I can't wait to see where the story takes us next.
Outstanding book and aheck of a ride, great characters and plot. Non stop action, twists and turns that are completely unexpected, really well written and entertaining story.
At last, an original story, not a melding of other ideas and myths. Written in Mr Keys' style, enjoyable, well-reasoned with good character development and a few surprises.
Miss Keys is a master of the written word, the playing of the human heart a symphony, and what is impossible for some, the desire of one’s heart. Thank-You, Young Lady, for giving one’s dreams flight…
This was a great book! I feel the author did an excellent job with the story and I really liked the main character and his elves!!! Can’t wait for the next one!!!
Choosing a world of Elves, humans and other beings r ruled by magic makes this a wonderful change in the harem genre.Add in delightful sex and you have a winner.
Shawn with another masterful job with his words. Loved all the characters and the world is interesting as well. Looking forward to the edge of creation.
