I read the 2017 edition of this guidebook. Profusely illustrated and reasonably detailed, considering the scope of its subject, this is a good first overview for those contemplating travel to Mexico. It mostly covers the popular tourist destinations . The trademark gimmick of this line of travel guides is its 3-D type maps of areas of interest ( city centres, historical districts. museums, etc). They're nice to look at and provide some idea of where you'll be going but from personal experience I can say they can be confusing, because they sacrifice scale for the 3-D effect. It gives you the basics regarding practical information and personal safety but like many guides it's wearing rose colored glasses, when it comes to the violence plaguing Mexico. The cartels and drug wars get a one sentence mention in the history of Mexico article. It deals with the most dangerous parts of the country e.g. Juarez by ignoring them completely. I saw only one warning, that a certain market in Mexico City was dangerous at night. I prefer the Lonely Planet's Mexico guide. It is enthusiastic about the many positives of the country but it doesn't pretend the problems don't exist and gives very specific information to keep travellers out of trouble, without over dramatising the situation.
On the other hand this book is very, very pretty. As with a well illustrated cook book, you may find your mouth watering. -30-

I've always used DK guides when going abroad as I have found them to provide an easy to read, but also comprehensive introduction to another country. The glossy colour diagrams make it easy to appreciate the complexity of the locations that you visit and the little bits of extra data are really great - such as introductions to local cuisine or the differences between Tequila and Mezcat. Although this may not be the cheapest guidebook on the market, the quality more than compensates for the price.

Overall another great guide from DK which I have no hesitation to recommend to others A*****.

Chose this one over Lonely Planet for the photos, which are swell, but do not quite take the place of trademark LP irony. Guess you can't have everything?

I brought this book for our holiday to Mexico alongside the area specific Lonely Planet guide. I always buy both whenever I go to a region as they both give different information. I like the DK guides as they give you more history to the place and suggest places to go to go see the culture and heritage. They also have lovely drawings, pictures and maps. Which are always useful. They aren't so good at suggestions for food or places to stay but that's where the lonely planet guide comes in. What one book lacks the other has. Turns out all the activities I had highlighted to do from the DK book our holiday rep and travel company gave us all the info for anyways but it's always good to know they aren't doing you out of an experience or you aren't missing anything.

Used this book for a trip to the Yucatan and wish, on the whole, I'd found a guide for that area specifically. (There is a "Top Ten" Eyewitness Guide for Cancun and the Yucatan, but I wanted something more in-depth than that.) Only thirty pages of this guide were devoted to the area we actually went to. However, on the positive side, the introductory sections on history and culture were fairly useful. However, since the book is rather heavy, I looked it over before the trip and then just left it at home.

DK Eyewitness Mexico travel guide is presented in a region by region style. The reader can see the highlights at a glance and wonderful things to do depending on how many days are available in a certain region. A must see is listed so if you only have a certain numbers of hours before moving on, make this the place to visit. Using the maps and photographs, this user friendly book gives insights into the history and culture of the area. For the latest and best representation, check the publication date to make sure it is the most current.

Had fun exploring Mexico through this book, discovering things and cool places I never knew. One day I will go, I figured I shouldn't have to wait until then to get to know the lay of the land and dream about what I'd like to see one day!

Book is well organized by region and interests. The maps are easy to follow, the descriptions thorough, photos beautiful, and the cultural and seasonal tips are great! This is how I'd design a travel book!
