That's the question that drives each friend, each foe, and every strand of the stories woven together in Born in Syn.
From an eerily intelligent infant, to individuals wrongly accused or imprisoned, to insiders who know things they wish they didn't and outsiders determined to bulldoze their way into the action, dozens of small decisions and huge risks pile on top of one another, contributing to the creation of a future that will change everything.
War. Ambition. Family. Betrayal. As every character hurtles us ever-faster forward, one truth becomes Even the end of the world was once the beginning of someone's story.
Beth Kander is a USA Today bestselling writer with tangled roots in the Midwest and Deep South. The granddaughter of immigrants, her work often explores how worlds old and new intertwine—or collide. Beth earned an MSW from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Creative Writing from Mississippi University for Women, where she has also served as a visiting professor. She calls Chicago home these days, and is lucky to live there with her very favorite characters: her heroic husband, their two brave, hilarious kids, and a giant rescue dog named Oz.
Even better than the first book! The second installation of the trilogy is a rich tapestry of interwoven lives and loves as the families and backgrounds of each character is revealed in delectable vignettes.
This was a fantastic second book! I think I enjoyed Born In Syn a fraction more, and it was because I loved Ere and Ever so much! This book takes us back in time to see how the Syn movement began, so we spend our time with the Fell family tree and work our way up to where we left off. While completely necessary and fascinating, I missed Ere and Ever so much, and I can’t wait to see what happens to them in book 2.
I love how Beth Kander writes, and this book was no exception. The characters are fascinating. I especially loved Howard as a kid. I also loved seeing theories I formed in Book 1 be proven correct.
All in all, a great book, and I’m so excited for the final installment!
