This series was amazing!!! I loved the drama and twists. I never could have guessed what was going to happen next. I can't wait for more stories like this!
I really didn’t want to finish this book. I didn’t want the story to end at all and was tempted to never finish it.
This whole series was amazing, quick and full of so many things. This last book had so many twists and lies in it that made it so the reader couldn’t stop reading. The ending I feel was a little rushed but ended how it was suppose to. And I’m so glad there is a spin-off series to read because my heart hurts from finishing this series. I definitely think I will read the series again and highly recommend it.
I loved this series! All of the plot lines weaved artistically and came together at the perfect time. I’m so excited for the next series JM Kearl brings us in this wonderful world of magic!
Story line is good, but ruined by the many, many grammar mistakes.
For my clean readers: violence-murder, fighting in battles, etc. Language-everything but the f-bomb. Romance-kissing, sex, seduction, making someone sleep with them through spells, etc.
Great story and ending but definitely needs a good proof reader/editor. Too many grammatical and typo errors it’s annoying. I am glad Daelyn became queen she and Boaden will make a great team. Although she is strong and powerful she lacks confidence at times and a little immature. Boaden keeps her grounded. Interested to know the story of their daughter in the next book.
This is the final book in a trilogy written by J.M. Kearl. I have progressively rated each of the books at a lower rating than the previous book. I do enjoy the writing style and cadence of Kearl. This book does lead into a follow-up series of books: Allied Kingdom Academy. At this point in time, I do not have any plans to read that series.
I really tried to like this book. However, the further I got into the book, the more rushed it felt to me. What should have been a very dramatic climax ended very abruptly. It was summed up in only a few pages. There was a lot of time dedicated to character development. But some of the conflicts which were brought into the story line did not have a resolution by the end of the book. I am sure this is in order to lead you into the "Allied Kingdom Academy" series.
Rival follows the struggles of Daelyn and Kyria as the fight each other to gain control of the throne. They are placed in a series of three challenges, each harder than the last, to determine who should win. In order to complete these trials, they are given very clear mandates on not using dark magic to affect the other candidate. The question therefore lies in what they are each willing to do to protect themselves, their family and friends, and the kingdom they love so much.
Battles are fought, deals are made and a challenge for the Queendom is made.
This last volume of the series brought this story to a grand finale.
We see new relationships made, old ones solidified and Daelyn’s challenged.
The betrayals, the vindication and karma coming around full circle leaves everyone where they should be.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story as a whole. The storyline was strong enough to keep my attention. It was full of magic, action and romance. The characters developed nicely throughout these books, each finding their place in the world. It was full of surprises which kept it intriguing. I would highly recommend it to any fantasy reader.
I am so glad I stumbled upon this series. This was my least favorite of the three, but I still enjoyed it very much. I had already fallen in love with the characters in the previous two books, so it was fun the spend more time with them. However, I felt like things happened far to quickly and it felt rushed. It seemed like there was a big conflict, then it was quickly and easy resolved a couple of times through the story. Some minor character’s stories were left up in the air with no conclusion, which was disappointing. I will say, the Queens Challenge felt just a bit too much like “Goblet of Fire” for me.
Overall, I enjoyed the whole series. I will be reading more by this author, and will recommend this series!
I was distracted and disappointed that two extremely powerful women were fighting over a man. It was petty, and completely unnecessary to further the plot. There was a legitimate power struggle, and plenty of valid reasons and opportunities for sabotage. She's literally threatening to take away the throne that is yours by birth, but you're mad over a man. It makes me sad to know this was written by a woman. She created two badass alpha females, and reduced them to forgettable cliches. What a waste.
While this series had some grammatical errors, I was not detered from reading, and it was still a fast read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and watching them grow. The ending of Rival was fast-paced and seemed a little rushed, but I didn't mind too much because I was just as eager to find out how things played out. I wish we got to see more of the cat, Sir Gideon, I absolutely loved him. I can't wait to see what happens in the spin-off with kids.
Although I enjoyed this series I stopped reading for a while as the writing style was a bit jarring for me. The narration often took me out of the book. I have read other books by this author and have noticed an improvement in her style. So while I can only give three stars for this series I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading her books.
The stories are interesting but characters are not fleshed out. Book switches from 1st person to 3rd person several times. It doesn’t flow but I did have to finish the 3 books to see what happens.
I loved the challenges and characters in this trilogy! I couldn't put it down. It reminds me of Throne of Glass and I'm here for it! Love these books! The only thing I would change is that there was another about the main characters! But I will settle for the next generation!
This was too neat and tidy for me. No consequences for treachery, everything is shiny and perfect and too easy. Plus the spelling and grammar mistakes were just too much!
The last book in the series!!!! It wrapped up nicely and I'm so satisfied with the ending. Not to mention how the vibe of this book was like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I really like mazes/puzzles so I was super into this. On top of everything, the series ended, but one of the characters gets a series to themselves so HECK YES!
