Growing up can feel pretty complicated sometimes. There are so many challenging aspects of adolescence, and I thought the authors of this book did a great job capturing that, as well as offering valuable insight and advice on how to survive this period in life. I especially appreciated how current this book feels - while still focusing on timeless issues like self-esteem, changing bodies, and hormones, "Celebrate Your Body 2" also has essential sections on things like social media, cellphone addiction, and sexuality. I would definitely recommend this book to parents of teen girls, especially if they're uncomfortable having a lot of these difficult conversations with their daughters. This book feels like it was written by caring, supportive older sisters (who just happen to also have medical degrees).

I think I like this better than the other one, and more importantly, I think my daughter will too. It feels more fact based that some random person's opinions.
The main thing that seemed clearly missing was any mention of period supplies other than pads and tampons (eg period underwear or cups).
Oh the joys of puberty! Hopefully this book will help the girl in your life develop from girl to woman with confidence. There are 8 chapters: A New You! * Taking Care of Yourself * Your Beautiful Body * Menstruation: The Big Change * Your Amazing Brain * Relationships * Sex and Sexuality * The Whole Picture
This book is not just about bodily changes but social ones also - how workload at school increases, relationship changes to parents, importance of choosing good friends etc.
WARNING to more conservative parents: This book talks about gender identity. After providing details the authors state, "It's important to accept yourself and other for whoever they want to be." If you have not already talked about sexual intercourse with your child you many want to do so before she reads Chapter 7 or use this section of the book as a catalyst to help you explain it all. Authors state in this chapter, "Sex for reproduction must be between a man and a woman but sex for pleasure can be between people of any gender identity and expression." NOTHING is mentioned about waiting until marriage or the benefits of abstinence. Masturbation is described as normal.
Chapter 2, Taking Care of Yourself, contains a wealth of very practical advice for growing girls. Many drawings accompany the text throughout the book. Your Beautiful Body is beautifully done! Chapter 4 contains step-by-step instructions on how to use tampons and pads etc. Technology wisdom is shared in Chapter 5. Chapter 8 wraps it all up with good nutrition, exercise and sleep guidelines. Many resources are listed at book's end.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Thanks, Liz
I have been a solo rural pediatrician for 32 years. Every year I try to read as many of the books as possible cover to cover that I recommend to my patients and their parents to make sure they align with evidence based medicine and my practice philosophy and that they are worth the read. Sometimes I’ll be able to adopt a turn of phrase used in a book to help explain things to my patients. This book gets a big, beautiful ☑️ on all levels! Ideally I would hope you read this with and when your daughter is about to go through puberty. In addition the last addendum that gives reading lists and websites is spectacular. Thank you Dr. Leff and Dr Klein for this wonderful book.
I love this book, it is a very good place to search for questions. It also makes puberty sound not so horrible, I would not change anything. If you are having trouble with emotional emotions it talks about anxiety, depression, and just normal mood swings. I love this book and everything about it.thats why u have it a 5 star rating.
Again, I just really think I hit the jackpot with this series when it comes to approaching puberty in a balanced and positive way. So, for that, I'm rounding up!
Read through before giving to my daughter. She had questions about why kids look like their parents and I wanted to give her a basic background and not make things awkward. She had already read the Celebrate your Body Part 1 book and enjoyed it so this was a good follow up. She read through the reproduction chapter and said “oh that’s where it comes from” and then finished the book. I let her know that if she had any questions I can help clarify things and she went about her day. The book also provides a list of other resources that can be helpful and more in depth.
