Jonathan not only has to look out for assassins but monsters so horrible that his enemies have decided to come together to stop this threat. But what could stop a dragon? Join Jonathan in his adventure to rise up from a simple commoner to take his place as The Queen's Champion.
I know a bunch of you have been asking exactly you the heck I am. First off, my name is Whiskey Flowers, I was active duty army and now I am a proud member of the New Mexico National Guard. In my day job, I am a corrections officer, I watch the best and brightest Albuquerque has to offer and make little money doing it. I am originally from Oakland, California, home of dumbasses and knuckleheads everywhere where I attempted to become their leader until the army put me on a different path. As many of you have pointed out, I never got my high school diploma, I am a GED student but I make it look good. If any of you are ever in New Mexico and want a drinking partner, I got you.
Well thank you Whiskey Flowers. I really enjoyed this series. The temperament of Jonathon is refreshing an honesty. I do like it when people just say it as it is. His son has picked it up himself. Laughter is good for the soul an you bring it to the table. Great read. P.S. You still need a good proofreader. Give me a hey I can help you out.
The Queen’s Champion is the second novel in The Lighting Mage series by Whiskey Flowers.
The prose! The writing displayed in these far outweighed that of the last book. It was such an experience to explore this world more fully, and receive a deeper grasp of its development and structure.
Jonathan is blossoming into an even more astounding character. He still has those uncivilized moments, and I still cherish his courage and bravery. It’s always fun to laugh outright when he goes toe to toe with stuffy nobles. Those of which vary in degree of annoyingness. I had high hopes for Farrah’s strength of character, this book has definitely showcased her faults. Russell was slightly surprising. Although there has been no miracle turn around, he seems to have gained some reason.
I was so sad over the loss of many tertiary characters. Over the befuddling loss of family. At the remarks of arrogant nobles asking for that which they can’t deign to ‘lower’ themselves to give; such as respect, even when it is due.
Heavy sigh. I really wanted to enjoy this book. Unfortunately, too many amateur mistakes made my enjoyment fleating at best. I have issues with consistently reading the same verb tense and usage errors. The author and editor really need to learn the breakdown if the verb "go.". "Had went" is almost never correct. Too frequently confusion over "less" versus "few." Singular verbs given to plural subjects. And way too many more. This could have been an enjoyable read, but I was often thoroughly distracted by the errors and had to keep myself from throwing my reader against the wall in frustration.
Jonathan matures some in this book, though he is still rightfully upset about how his parents died and he is still fairly young. Which is related to the disparity in how commoner and noble makes are treated. Jonathan is understandably upset about his treatment, but it does tend to blind him some and he does not try to work with those who are not trying to actively demean him and actually try to help. Of course, sometimes their help is a bit heavy-handed, so he rebels.
It will be interesting to see how things worked out in the main series!
Full disclosure, this is the most biased review you will ever read. I believe Whiskey Flowers is a man among men. He once shat out a particularly tough bowel movement that grew up to become Chuck Norris. He let out a particularly nasty fart that became Hurricane Carrie. Solicitors knock on his door to buy his things. Chil FIL A opens on Sundays to feed him. Elon Musk based the Cyber truck off of a drawing he did in kindergarten. And any other awesome stuff you can think of
Very entertaining series all in all. Great for a weekend time pass reading. A very gripping storyline mostly due to its simplicity. A simple set of characters. The language becomes very sophomore as the series progress on. If you are one of those that involve deeply and create your imagery while reading a novel, the abrasive relation between the characters starts to be a annoyance. Quite a few spelling mistakes and silly stuff like that as well.
I really enjoy this writer's style, and his excellent gift of storytelling, but I am frequently irritated by the poor use of English. It became increasingly obvious in the latter chapters of this book, and started to spoil what had been a good journey. To be honest, it was a hugely disappointing finished - it just fizzled out suddenly - a very weak ending.
Overall enjoyable reading time. Not a perfect written but what is perfect for me would not be for others. I did enjoy the multifaceted story of the fight in front and behind the scenes. Not in depth politics but still more than many stories and really added to the reading of the story - quality. Well worth the time and cost. If you find the overview of the book interesting then I recommend buying.
The hero is young with young enemies. He makes mistake after mistake, just as anyone young with a lot of power would do. The disdain the nobles have for the common is overblown, especially when most of the common will marry into the class. However it is a small flaw and given the age, not totally out of bounds.
Great book some grammatical errors but unlike previous books not enough to pull you from the story. I believe this book is an excellent follow up to the first book.
Jonathan Thunder is a powerful commoner mage. Noble mages look down on him even though he wins over them frequently. He is continually challenged by those who want to put him in his place. I like the action, humor, and attempted romance.
I love this universe, I love this family and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Job is not one to be messed with and it’s good to see him grow past his anger even if only marginally
The story is interesting but could use a lot of editing. Is he Jonathan, John or Jon? Could really use a grammar review too. OK but Jonathan comes across as a hothead rather than a sympathetic hero. Think I'll give the next one a miss.
I thought this book was better than The Lightning Mage. I think this book shows how some people are convinced that the way they think is the right way to think and will do anything to keep it that way.
This is book two an a prequel series to the Author's other work. There were a lot of issues with editing and grammar, however the story was so fun and engaging it does not matter! Love the world, MC and the plot/storyline! and can't wait for the next book!
As fast and enjoyable as the first book but with a very similar problem, when everything is moving so quickly it’s a little harder to care alongside the main character through their happiness and grief.
