The Post Human Chronicles

Rate this book
Adaptation. Speciation. Extinction. All species must undergo these processes, sooner or later. Seagulls now hunt pigeons. Chimpanzees now hunt monkeys and lower primates for their meat. Humans have recently undergone speciation and you totally didn't notice. We're here, and we're watching you. We're not like creatures/beings from Comic Books or Sci-Fi novels. We don't fly or walk through walls. We look just like you. We are black, white and brown, and every shade in between. We differ genetically, that's all. Planet Earth is in peril, and no longer big enough for both of us. You're getting voted off the island. Look, we don't expect you to give up without a fight. It's been a long time coming and we're ready for you. The endgame for our two species starts now. No, we don't wish you luck ! Sincerely, Samuel.

DNF at 50 pages. The premise was interesting (a new species of humans arising out of the old one, implying they're going to eradicate the current species as happened before), but this book REALLY needed an editor. Written as the internal musings of one of these new humans, the narration was very repetitive, included lots of weird and imo unnecessary italicized paragraphs, and unnecessary capitalizations (Black denoting a category of people you can capitalize; black denoting the colour of someone's clothes, no). Although this narrator is supposed to be a mutant born to normal humans, the way he thinks feels more like a snobbishly superior alien dropped into a foreign species than a person who has realized he's different from the people among whom he has grown up. The dialogue, when it happens, is stiff and artificial. And, annoyingly James Bond style, it seems like everyone (male and female) is constantly throwing themselves at this arrogant snot's feet, because of course he's irresistible because of reasons. Which you could argue is the unconscious attraction to this new-superior-species, but in that case you should also see people kind of blinking and wondering "WHY am I attracted to this guy even though he's a jerk?" and they don't. They're just slavishly puppy-eyed.
Full disclosure: I tried this book after reading the author's previous mermaid-zombie novel (which turned out to be a poorly written excuse-to-voyeuristically-write-lesbian-sex novel) to see if his writing had improved any, but the same problems persist (interesting premise, horrible writing, and once again--if you flip ahead--look, more male-fantasy sex, this time fetishizing big-bootied Moroccan women).
I won't try this author again.

Have you ever wondered if there might be another human-like species on the planet Earth ? People who look like us, act like us, but are different genetically ? In this story, the protagonist is a superhuman renegade who tries to save hapless humanity from his own species, which uses science and technology to undermine and eventually eradicate humanity. A shocking story, especially given today's pandemic. I liked it.
