I'm the author of the Agatha-nominated Gray Whale Inn mystery series, Tales of an Urban Werewolf. the Margie Peterson mysteries and the Dewberry Farm mysteries (plus a new fantasy in the works). My reading is like my writing: eclectic!
I grew up in the Northeast, but I currently live in Austin with my husband, two kids, and a houserabbit named Bunny. Feel free to visit me online at www.karenmacinerney.com; I love connecting with readers.
I like these short stories but I did not realize when I bought the book that some of the stories I had read before. This book is more of a compilation of previously published short stories. In addition, I wound up sending back another book that I purchased because the same story is also in this book a well. So, one has to be careful about double checking it you wind up purchasing the same stories two or three times. It had been long enough that I enjoyed the stories again and really enjoyed the new one about the iPhones and buried treasure. There was also a very short bonus story that I found intriguing, plus a sneak preview of the up coming Grey Whale Inn mystery to be coming out soon.
Four Seasons of Mystery by Karen MacInerney is a collection of stories from the Gray Whale Inn Mystery series. An interesting collection including recipes.
This book is perfect for anyone who has not yet read Karen MacInerney's Gray Whale Inn mystery series or just wants a bit of re-read of highlights from the series. There are four short stories and one very short story included in this collection. Each story takes place at a different time of year: summer, fall, winter, spring. The first three stories are previously released short stories: Blueberry Blues, Pumpkin Pied, and Iced Inn. The fourth titled Lupine Lies is only released with this collection. As a bonus is a very short (4 pager) story about a haunted story that has potential for a future book.
The series is centered around Natalie Barnes who buys the Gray Whale Inn, a bed and breakfast on Cranberry Island in Maine. Every time you turn around, there is a murder on the island and Natalie just happens to find herself in the center of it all. Her best friend Charlene is always by her side as is her boyfriend later turned husband John who happens to be the local sheriff.
As always, these mysteries are cozy and the characters are familiar faces that fans have grown to love. It was nice to revisit some stories and see how the overall storyline has grown throughout the years. Come fall in love with the mysterious Cranberry Island!
Great way to introduce others to the world of Gray Whale Inn
I have the short stories that are in this book individually, but it is great to also have the collected edition. This collected edition is a great way to introduce Natalie and the Gray Whale Inn to friends who may not have begun reading the series. I began reading the series because a friend gave me the BLUEBERRY BLUES short story (included in this collection) in the hopes I'd enjoy the series.
Love these short stories of the Gray Whale Inn. The newest being Lupine Lies and Alter Flowers! 5 short stories in all. You’ll want to read these if you are already a fan of the series AND if you read these first, you’ll certainly want to devour all the books in the series.
I love a cozy mystery where the mystery doesn't involve someone dieing. This collection was perfect! The stories were intriguing and fun. Loved the botanical knowledge too.
