The final installment in the bestselling series is here!
The fate of Alice Wonder, Jack Diamonds, Fabiola, Cheshire, Lewis Carroll, the March Hare, and Constance will be revealed -- and of course Professor Carter Chrysalis Cocoon Pillar's mysterious intentions.
Amidst the chaos of the Wonderland War, Alice protects the March's secret, hoping she didn't kill everyone on the school bus -- again! The Pillar has one last trick under his sleeve while the Cheshire is determined to kill him. On the other hand, Mr. Jay's true identity is revealed.
But why are children all over the world reading Lewis Carroll's books in unison? Where the heck did the mushrooms come from? Are Fabiola, Constance, Jack, and Lewis still alive? Who is Mr. Jay? Why is everyone talking about the Mad Hatter? Where has he been all this time? And most important of all is Alice just a mad girl in her asylum cell imagining all of this?
In a final worldwide battle, the Wonderland War will come to and end -- or a beginning?
Warning:If you've read through the maddening series so far then you know it's going to be a hallucinatory, unpredictable, over the top ending that matches the insanity of the earlier books.
Bestselling author of the Grimm Diaries and Insanity series. A traveller and collector of out-of-print books from all over the world, obsessed with the origins of folk tales and the mysterious storytellers who spread them. Many of his books made Amazon's Top 100 Customer Favorites in Kindle 2015 & Amazon's Top 100 kindle list. Cameron lives in Yerba Buena San Francisco California. When he isn't writing or collecting books, he is playing music or enjoys the silence.
The final book of the Insanity series gives the final conclusion of the story, but takes many chapters, many twists and many characters to do so. The one thing that goes down hill, as many have pointed out, is the grammar of the book. Sometimes sentences didn't make sense and it was clear that a proofreading was much needed.
Other than that, the final book follows the motif that the rest had, with the many characters appearing and disappearing from one page to another and the mad twists complicating the story and turning it into a frustrating mess until we reach the ending. At least, this time, we finally get a reason for why the end of the world is happening and what had happened in the past. The conclusion was sweet too.
As I wrap up this review of the book, ready to put behind all those beloved characters, I would like to comment on the series in general. Insanity has a strong start and builds up the whole story well, even though, sometimes, it felt like even the author didn't know where things were going. And the final books were not as good as the first ones. Still, all in all, it's an entertaining series and easy to read.
It took me a while to finish this book... To be honest, I forced myself to read it as slowly as I could, since this one is the last of the series and I don't want it to end.
There were a few moments that I actually disliked, but in general, the book impressed me a lot.
*** spoiler alert. do not read below if you didn't read the book ***
The thing I didn't like that every one of the Inklings knew about a Jabberwocky personality. Who he was, why he became the Jabberwocky and when this happened. Only Alice knew nothing. The second thing goes from the first one - Alice's ignorance. She knew nothing about everything the whole book! I imagined her as Jon Snow with this beard and black clothes and face reaction to every news.
The third and the last is The Hatter being the Pillar (but I loved it as much as disliked). The moment when Pillar was burying him in the grave with teacups - and from the Snaps of Insanity you're all aware the Hatter is alive - just drove me crazy!!! I've almost believed that Hatty really died and Pillar is a totally different person. But thanks gods, the Hatter is really alive. And what really hooked me that this The Hatter being the Pillar was ALICE'S PLAN. WHAT. A. TWIST.
Nevertheless, the ending is what it should be. The Wonderlanders are in the different dimension. And want to believe - without a war.
The Mad Hatter aka Professor Pillar is flirting with Fabiola in the shop where she works. It says that she doesn't remember anything from her past, but I want to believe that's not true. And I have thoughts that she really remembers because of her way talking to Hatter/Pillar and choosing the Pillar costume for him. That looked nice :) I can't imagine how HARD for him was to be Pillar - to be in his skin, make bad things, hurting people. And how HARD it was for him looking on Fabiola and seeing her hate because she thought that he killed the love of her life and this love of her life was every time in killer's body... Now they are finally together *sobbing*.
And Alice finally not killing Jack Diamonds on the bus. Poor girl is finally with the love of her life. I was so freaked out when she chopped of Jack's head and then we are known that was Jack Spades and then - that it wasn't him and Diamonds really died. I almost cried with Alice when Spades told her Malice fooled her. In this new dimension, she's a popular girl who remembers all about the past and makes everything to be with Jack. Hope to see the story about their daughter one day :)
Can't wait to order the paperback from Amazon and re-read the whole series again.

While the book concluded the larger storyline satisfyingly, I found all of the grammatical and spelling errors to be extremely frustrating and distracting. Whoever edited this book was either asleep while editing, or was too familiar with the material to catch and correct the words. At times, it made me feel like I was reading a story that was written by someone where English was not their first language. Overall, it detracted from the enjoyment of the story.
I started reading Cameron Jace's books when he was a brand new author. The first several books were good. You could tell they were well thought out and PROOF READ. As he pushed out notebooks and got better know it was like he got bored with his own material and tried to write too many books at a time. The last several books on this series were poorly written and this one was the worst. Did anyone edit or PROOF read this book before it was published? It is so hard to read through spelling and grammar errors and typos! The story line was repetitive and boring. I would have been upset if I paid for this book.
So we finally discover who Mr. Jay is and I would never have guessed his true identity alone.
It makes immense sense that he would be this significant character from the original books and I can't believe he has all this power.
Not to mention, at the beginning of this final installment we discover The Pillar's deal with the Looking Glass. And yes, he made one and boy it is a vilely, clever one.
Pure frabjous, madness!
Also, to add onto this mirror nonsense...IT HAS HUGE CONNECTIONS TO TWO MAJOR CHARACTERS THAT HAS ME MIND FRAZZLED.
LIKE YES CAMERON JACE FEED ME MORE LORE!!!
The connection...if it wasn't there...could have changed this series drastically. Hell, this universe could not have existed. It truly proves that choices matter.
~~♡~~
Eventually, Alice comes to a big decision. But after numerous questions and arguing, it turns out its a choice she won't have to make, Fabiola and an old friend will.
Karma sure is a b***h.
Yet she can't sit and wrap her head around the information she has gathered, for little Alice must make her grown choices and save the ones she loves.
~~♡~~
I have written some of these reviews as I go and at the point, I am currently at, all I can say is ...
SCREW YOU CAMERON JACE! I DIDNT NEED THIS FEEL TRAIN RIGHT NOW!!
Not only does someone discover an old flame's feelings but someone also loses their flame (in a madness way).
P.E.M.P.A.S = Please End My Pain And Suffering
~~♡~~
I JUST FINISHED THE BOOK AND I AM CRYING SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.
LIKE THIS BOOK HAS BROUGHT SO MANY FEELS AND I LOVE IT!
AND THEN THE LOVEY DOVEY DORKY FRABJOUS HOO-HAH JUST MADE ME SQUEAL LIKE A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL!
DAMMIT, Y'ALL READ THIS SERIES, THIS BOOK, AND ANYTHING WRITTEN BY CAMERON JACE!!!
What I hate (in the most loving way imaginable) is that these books keep my attention from start to finish. I am as addicted to them as anyone on the Pillar’s mushrooms. I can’t get enough of this series. The only thing is there are some slight spelling errors that most avid readers (like myself) do not care about. Also, I was confused because it seemed that the Cheshire Cat had already figured out who pillar was but then he was still confused ? Seemed inconsistent. Lastly, it seems that there was a slight anti God and anti religion theme with a catering towards evil and me as a Christian was not too happy about that. But, I adored the action. I adored the twists and chapter cliffhangers because although my heart was wrenched back and forth and it got tiresome, that’s how life is, it is a series of cliffhangers until the information is somewhat discovered—which usually leads to more cliffhangers. The wording was eloquent and beautifully smooth. Cameron has grown so much as a writer. I am so excited for the pillar series and hope we will see some of these characters again because I am not ready to let these characters go.
I love this book series and the final book gives this story a great ending. Everything is clear although it isn't, because the author knows how to mind fuck you.
I was hooked on the first 4-5 books of the series, then it just seemed to go from well-planned and executed to rushed and chaotic (not in a creative/insane fashion that would suit the series), like the author was struggling with churning out the last few books and forgot what was in the first books. The ending was okay, but I had to force myself to finish it, and had guessed most of the plot twists by book 7 or 8.
- This has got to be the fastest i have ever read a book and i consider myself a slow reader. - I like how in the first couple of pages, instantly my mind just snaps back into that familiar place of this insane world and these mad characters. - It was also WAY TOO SHORT for me and i could have read hundreds of more pages. - I would never get over how crazy and loving Alice and Pillar's relationship is. - It was a wild ride with all the revelations and sentences hanging in the air at the end of the chapters. - Something is revealed that i thought wouldn't sit well with me but i ended up enjoying. On top of that, i kind of theorized about the reveal earlier in the series but didn't put too much thought into it. - It was fun, it was wacky, it was emotional and yes,
Shit. I don't know what to say about this book without all the spoilers. So read this with caution. I don't know why, given the dual personality of Lewis Carroll, I didn't see this book coming. And holy freaking crap, it was so good. Such a great conclusion to this series. I love how everything ended for Alice and Jack. Pillar's story arch was beautiful. The whole thing was just epic.
Quotes: Defeating evil isn’t a one girl’s job. It takes a team. Evil only kneels to numerous hits from all sides of the good people.
The greatest revenge against evil is to neglect it. It will take a piece of you, but you will not feed its fire. And then you will cross over. Wounded a little, but you will have survived—and you can always heal with time.
“Age isn’t quite an accurate measurement for adulthood. It’s what you experience that makes you older, not the barcode in your passport,” he says. “A few weeks ago you cared whether you were mad or not, whether you were doing the right thing or not. Hell in heavens, a few weeks ago you still cared about your past and held it like a chip on your shoulder, not knowing that the past has passed. It doesn’t matter. We all messed up in the past, or there would’ve been no point in the future.”
You can fight humans, animals, and even fight yourself, but how can you fight nature. It has no soul. Doesn’t spare. It’s unpredictable, and it has been here before all of us, so it has the mother-load of advantages. Sometimes I think we, humans, are strangers to this earth. At some point, we came and settled. But these plants? They’ve been here since day one. They’ve created this place.
"Spot on," Malice says. "You see, Alice of Wonderland, we all know the world is a shit hole - ahem, pardon me - I mean a rabbit hole. Children don't need lies. They don't want you to tell them there is no monster. They want you to tell then there is a monster but that they will be alright. That they will be able to kill the monster.”
“Look, Cheshire, no one really knows what this whole universe is about. We do our time and hope for the best, enjoy the moment, and if lucky we put a smile on someone else’s face or leave a legacy to be remembered.”
“Ask anyone if they know what this life is all about,” he slightly waves his cane at people as if they were lost sheep. “We just like to pretend that we do, though. That’s why our fiction has to make sense. You have to tell the reader why the hero was able to use this kind of magic at that certain point in time. You have to logically explain to them why the heroine fell in love with the hero while in real life it’s never so clear.”
In the final installment of the Insanity series, we finally learn the fate of Alice Wonder, Jack Diamonds, Lewis Carroll, Constance, and the rest of the real world and Wonderland. We also get a glimpse of Professor Carter Chrysalis Cocoon's mysterious motives. In the middle of the Wonderland War, Alice struggles to protect the March Hare's secret, all the while hoping that she didn't kill everyone on the bus again! The Pillar has one last trick up his sleep and the Cheshire is determined to kill him. We finally find out the true identity of Mr. Jay! We also find out the reason that all of the world's children are reading Lewis Carroll's books in unison.
There's so very much going on in Looking Glass! So many questions are answered and all the loose ends are tied up. This was such an exciting, eventful installment to the series. I loved the way each chapter had its own cliffhanger and the way that you got the viewpoints of most of the major characters. It really kept my attention and I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I loved every minute of every book of the series, but this may be my favorite. I couldn't wait to get all the answers to my questions, but at the same time, I dreaded coming to the end, knowing that the series would be over. I've loved every book by Cameron, so far, but the Insanity series is definitely my favorite series by him.
I loved the first and the second book, it was fun to see where everything was going and the characters were super fun but later we just had the same dialogues over and over again and more questions and no answers. It should have been 4 or 5 books but 10 is just too much and then you have a lot of scenes that don't add up and aren't fun anymore. Unfortunately this book doesn't show us anything, it has to tell us, we don't discover anything for ourselves and it'd be super fun to realize a bunch of things instead of showing us. All those dialogues and little chapters were killing me because it was just too many words and no conclusion, I skiped a lot of pages and I was able to understand the all story because honestly before 80% of the book nothing really happens. I was so excited when I read the first one, it's a shame that it ended that way.
Okay, I love the story of the series. I really do. I did figure out a lot of the twists well ahead of time, but I generally do that. I don't know if other people do that or not. Also, the book had a rushed feel to it. A lot more telling than showing. There was a feel of "I just want to finish this series already--I'm over it."
Aside from the rushing, there's another serious issue. Spelling, grammar, and sometimes entire sentences that make no sense due to missing words. Edit. Read over it. Have someone else read over it. The mistakes, and they multiply exponentially towards the end, completely drop the reader out of the story. It's irritating. Fix that, and I'll add another star, maybe star and a half.
This is the final book in the official series, though there appear to be a few short stories in the middle as well as at the end. I believe that with the way book 9 ends, you can be satisfied with it there or you can continue with the short stories. This book contained more foul language than I recall in the previous books, and some scenes made me more uncomfortable. There are also places where an editor would have come in handy (to catch words that weren't misspelled, but weren't the right words where they were used, for example).
There is a greater comprehension of who is who and why they do what they do. It is definitely sad in some parts, but it also provides resolution. It isn't my favorite book of the series, but I applaud Jace for his creativity.
I am not sure how he does it but the insanity in this series finalized perfectly with this series finale. My sympathy to his editors because when I edit I work on making sure the story is cohesive and makes sense. With this series that is darn near impossible! This book only has a few errors but it does not detract from the book nor the series. I'm still trying to figure out if Cameron Jace is pure genius or just purely insane. My money is split right down the middle he is purely insanely genius! No one could come up with these characters in such minute detail into such mad adventures from just two simple book, but Mr. Jace did and turned his fans into real mushroomers for understanding the madness written! Well done!!
After years of reading the Insanity series by Cameron Jace, Looking Glass is the last book in the series of Jace's retelling of the Alice in Wonderland Fairytale. This has been a bittersweet ending for me, after reading about the "insane" adventures of Alice Wonder, Pilla da Killer, Cheshire, Fabiola and the rest, finally came to an end. This book is perfect for fans of Cameron Jace Grimm Diaries series or for those who have read books 1-8 of the Insanity and wants to find out what happens at the end. I would also recommend the series for readers who love a great Alice in Wonderland retelling.
This was a great book. Aside from twists and turns at every level of what is sanity vs insanity and fact vs fiction intermingled, there is the underlying confusion of who are we really. Having a Malice/Alice, Spade/Diamond, Carolous/Lewis (spelling-) doppelganger is a good way to say every person is both. And sometimes we have to use a bit of the darkness to win. Carter Pillar (Hatter)has it figured out. He had to come to terms that to save everything, he had to grow up and lose in the process. Maybe he gets a happily ever after now and Alice. We shall see
I love this series with all my heart. But I have to say the ending was not what I had expected to end such an amazing series. I would have liked to know what happened directly after the wonderland war in the present world. Other questions like what happened to Oxford, the children, how did Alice find jack again and why do they not know who they are ?? Overall I love Jace’s writing in the sense that he keeps us in the books. He always has another plot twist up his sleeve which I appreciate because it keeps me enticed. I love his mad way of story telling

This has been a wonderful and crazy ride! Every one of the Alice Wonder books seems to outdo the previous! The only fault I could find with any of the Storykiller's books is that there are a lot of spelling errors and an occasional sentence I had to re-read a few times to understand it (you'll find that with pretty much any book from any author). The content really tied up some loose ends and made you try to use your brain to make sense of the amazing nonsense! 💕 this is a series I will re-read over and over again.
I finished reading the Insanity series today and my poor heart is still recovering. After so many twists and turns and mini heart attacks, now I feel like crying and laughing at the same time. Every few chapters I had to stop and take a little break to calm myself to not rush through it. Constant tension and suspense. Not knowing what the characters would do in this beautiful madness of a series. I've never read anything like this and 100% recommend it. I'm sad it's over, but also so glad about the epilogue. Thanks Cameron!
There were certain aspects of the series finale I loved; however, there were too many grammar errors to overlook.
Cameron started off the series with a bang. He finished it with a dull ka-thud. The ka-thud being me hitting my head on the wall for spending so much on this book.
At least I can say I own the complete series. That's something, right? *eye roll*
I was so excited to see this series continue so I stopped reading a book I was half way through and jumped right into this marvelously mixed up world of Alice and Pillar. I was not disappointed! Be sure that you've read the other books though,as this series builds on each prior book. Bravo for the finale, although it is a wish for it to not end! Waiting eagerly for what next comes from the Storykiller!
I wish I hadn’t read this one 😟not only was it a grammatical nightmare (was there an actual editor? Can I volunteer for the job??) but it felt like a hurried and jumbled ending to a long series that I had previously enjoyed. I truly think the author should have ended after 5 or 6 books, it just started unraveling after that. I hate to write such a poor review because I usually enjoy Jace’s books, but this truly was not what I had hoped it would be for a last in a series.
3.5 stars. Just didn't grab me like the last few books. Lots of content errors in the eBook version but I didn't dock stars for that, just saying. Got tired of being on the cusp of learning a secret just to be denied because a distraction occurred. It was fine for awhile but was too much. Also this book seemed all over the place, which is saying a lot when you look at it from the context of this series 😁
So often after you've followed the story from the very beginning, the endings can leave bits untied or just tied up wrong.. Not here, not only was it a wonderful story, exciting and heart felt but there was a huge sense of mad rightness in the end. I'm just sad its over.
The finale that I was waiting for! Just all the characters idiocies come to light, you find out who is who and what is what, and in the end they all seem to get that happy ending that you didn’t think would ever happen considering all they have gone through. So sad to see it end but happy to have a great ending to a great series.
Oh my goodness. I have read the entire series again to get to this point and have not been disappointed. Pillar, still my favourite character. The heroics, the twists, the turns kept me going on this roller coaster. Loved it. I don't want to add any spoilers just a clever way to end a wonderful series. Thank you Cameron!
I’m honestly not sure what I think of this end to the series. For much of the book, I was just hanging on in there in the hope that something would make sense. It did in the end but I feel like I waded through an awful lot of confusing rubbish to get there. Frankly I’m not convinced it was worth it. I could have read one of the reviews with spoilers and learnt as much.
