Cole Baxter loves writing psychological suspense thrillers. It's all about that last reveal that he loves shocking readers with. He grew up in New York, where there crime was all around. He decided to turn that into something positive with his fiction. His stories will have you reading through the night--they are very addictive!

This book was somewhat predictable but still a decent story. Our main character struggled to accept her role as a wife and mom, part of a family she did not remember. A few big surprises kept my interest right until the end.
What She Forgot is one of those stories that had a lot of potential but didn’t quite live up to it. Throughout, I was curious to see how the pieces came together. Although I remained curious, I kept hoping for more.
My main issue with this one is that I felt too much time was dedicated to the boring everyday details of suburban life, rather than the mystery I was interested in. I wanted to be shocked and surprised, with details being slowly given, but too much was the drama of everyday life. When the details started to come together, however, things were really obvious. There was a lot packed into the end to give a bit of a twist, but these things happened to quickly for me to enjoy.
All in all, this one wasn’t quite what I had hoped for.
Another fun read by Cole. At under 200 pages, this novel is on the shorter side, but it still packs a punch! It reads very quickly, and was interesting throughout! I loved the plot as it isn’t one that I’ve seen. The twists are fun! I just didn’t care for one of the reveals, but I see that it adds to the story so I’ll give him a pass!
I am sorry for giving this only 2 stars. I am sure the author worked diligently to write this. The story was very unbelievable and easy to predict the road it would take. I will try another of this author's books with the hope it will be better. I like giving second chances.
Not going to give a synopsis of this story. Here you will only get my opinion. A quick afternoon read that will have you shaking your head, then smiling to yourself and thinking liars and the deceiver shall reap the rewards they deserve. High on a list of recommended.
In the mood for a mystery read and one filled with amnesia and gaslighting? What She Forgot by Cole Baxter starts with Hannah waking up after being in a coma for six months. When she awakes though, she has lost her memory and can't remember a thing including her name. She just knows that according to others she is Hannah. The thing though is that "Hannah" is confused as her memories should show some recognition but it doesn't and according to a binder that her daughters made- she used to love things that she hates now and her personality has changed. During the book, we learn that the accident caused the death of two people - Bernie Thompson who we learned was Hannah's high school boyfriend and then a female stranger whose body was burned beyond recognition and she was in the same car as Hannah. During the book, Hannah's mother also seems to be suffering from dementia, but is she going crazy or is this not her daughter Hannah but someone else? A Doppelganger? I had a feeling the book would take the direction it did, but then woah - that ending blew it all out of the water, and even then, with the way the book ended - you are left thinking - is it Hannah or someone else? You just don't 100% know as it was left a tad open-ended. Overall, if you are looking for a good easy-to-read thriller, then check out Cole Baxter's What She Forgot as you won't be disappointed.
Hannah woke up dazed and confused in a hospital. What happened? No voice, no idea how she got there, and no idea who she was. A car accident had put her in a coma for 6 months. Now she’s awakened to a husband and kids she has no memory of. She returns home, but nothing about her old life seems right. Hannah spends the whole time feeling lost and confused.
There was some odd phrasing to the writing. For instance, “he pulled the door to behind himself.” That’ so odd. I mean, the writer wasn’t British, right? The story itself was kind of slow and trivial. The only bright side was that she was being stalked before, but it didn’t quite progress from there.
The concept was interesting, but the read wasn’t too exciting.
I cant remember anything. I wake up in a hospital after being in a coma for 6 months, so they say. I'm not knowing my name my life, or that I'm a married women with 2 daughters. What i do feel from what I've been told doesn't feel right. Hannah has to learn how to live with the knowledge of whats been told to her is the truth, even if it's no longer applies. A wonderful suspence read filled with great characters and a captivating storyline. Highly recommended.
At the point where my Kindle indicated I was 25 pct. into the story, I had figured out something was up. But, there's all kinds of wrong here! Another viewer pointed out that Hannah was released from the hospital just ten days after waking up from a six month coma! And, she walked a whole the first week she was awake! This is impossible, of course. Things that bothered me? Hannah has been home from the hospital a whole month, yet her mother hasn't been to visit her. Mother calls, and Hannah asks who it is? "Oh, you two never could tell who it was on the phone." Hmmmmmmm. Which two? Ding, ding, ding! Is there another Hannah? Another woman? There are several bothersome instances that aren't clarified. Oh, and Hannah's mother is described as frail, "not entirely there", with "old, wrinkled hands" on several occasions. Her mother is 63! The relationship with her daughters is oddly okay. But, wouldn't they be able to tell if their mother was not their mother? The scenes in the schoolyard were laughable, as was the psychological doctor at the hospital. I did finish the book. It ended predictably, but not satisfactorily. I trust I'm not the only one who saw through Hannah, unlike her close, close friends.
Once I started, I couldn't stop reading. The beginning of the book is just watching Hannah face her loss of memory which is wonderfully written, but the author manage to convey so much more as we share Hannah's discovery of her old world. When her memory comes back, it is a whole different world. What She Forgot isn't just the intriguing title, is changes everything for Hannah. Several great twists kept me hanging on when my eyes would barely stay open. I will be checking out more books in this series.
Man I think Cole Baxter is becoming one of my favorite authors. Another great one! I definitely had my guesses on where the book was going to go and it totally went a different direction and was better then I had imagined! A fast read, hard to put down cause you just want to know what really happened to Hannah.
Fast-paced, well-written, and unforgettable. I loved this thrilling, chilling book and look forward to reading more from Baxter. I had no idea what twist the story would take next and always came upon it with a gasp.
Let’s just say that the supposed “plot twists” were so cliché I had seen very similar versions of this story line in several other books, Netflix films, and TV series...
Hannah wakes up after six months in a coma but when she has no memory of anything whatsoever and when she hears the name "Hannah" she doesn't recognize it. The author drops clues that might lead you to believe Hannah isn't really Hannah. Is she or isn't she? And, if not, then who is she? And if she IS Hannah, then why are her interests and behaviors so different from pre-coma? I couldn't wait to find out the answers to these and man other questions and read the book in two days. A really great story with lots of surprises. I love that the surprises kept on coming towards the end when the book's earliest questions were answered. Hannah (or not Hannah) was a great character with a lot of guts and smarts. I liked her and loved this book. I'm adding this author to my list of newly discovered favorites. Great fun and a real summer-page-turner-type read.
This was the first book I’ve read written by this author. I thought the idea was good but how it was executed wasn’t to my taste. It was a very slow starting and I struggled to get into to begin with. The thought of someone waking up in hospital after being in a coma and not remembering anything seemed interesting but there seemed to be lots of fillers and repetitive elements like the moms at the school gate. The twist came very near to the end, but then there was a twist on top of the twist which I didn’t think was completely necessary and did get a little confusing. That’s not to say the ending was bad, the last couple of chapters draw you into the story more than the rest of the book did however I felt like the end was a bit of an anti climax. I don’t think I’ll be reading it again.
What She Forgot by Cole Baxter is a mystery thriller with a shocking twist. Oh wow! This was a full-hand story! And that final twist! That twist was just something!
It started kind of slowly and reader definitely feels that something is not right there but is hard to pin down what pieces do not fit together. Then one twist hits you unexpectedly followed by a wow moment!
This was such an easy and fast read! So easy to follow the story, no confusion and I loved the main character. She was strong and terminated and logical!
Some things get confusing and Hanah starts to question if she is actually Hanah...sh and she is the only one who survived. As an unexpected surprise comes the husband and two daughters. Some things get confusing and Hanah starts to question if she is actually Hanah...
Hannah wakes up from a 6-month coma without memories of the car accident or her life before ending up in the hospital.
The total memory wipe is such a great place to set up the cast of characters. While Hannah’s two daughters and husband easily accept her, others are suspicious. Little cues make us wonder just who the heck was Hannah before the accident. And who is she now?
The denouement, when it comes, is just so outlandish and at the same time, perfectly neat. I was a little miffed that my guess was both right and wrong at the same time. Very good hook, line and sinker!
Took me forever to read because it just didn’t hold my attention. It was slow. I knew from the start how it was gonna end and sure enough it did end that way. I found this book in a fb ad and took a chance on reading it since it’s free on KU, but I’m glad I didn’t purchase it because it’s truly not worth the read.
The easiest part in writing a book is the 1st chapters. It becomes a bit harder in the 2nd (main) part, where you need to have more twists, more suspense, and more mystery. In that main part the reader should not be able to guess what is going to happen on the last 3rd of the book. Especially in the last chapter. Most writers are easily crossing the 1st rule for the beginning of the book. Not many are able to keep up with the main part's rule. Only few can pass the rule of the last part of the book. Cole Baxter didn't past very well on the main part since it was quite easily predicted what the outcome will be. That lead to a total failure of the 3rd and last part, which was disappointing and didn't make much sense. Anyway the book was readable, and even enjoyable. When I read a book, and look forward to hold it again, I give it a 4 star.
I bet much enjoyed most of this book. The plot kept evolving in an interesting way. I did not give this a 5 star rating because, for me, the end seemed a bit far fetched.
I knew it! But even if I knew what Hannah’s deal was, I didn’t know even the rest of it. LOL!! Brilliant.
If you’ve read Freida Mcfadden’s Brain Damage then this fits right into that exact spot of medical-domestic thriller. Sooooo entertaining, sooooo intriguing, and soooooo good.
Cole Baxter has quickly become one of my staple authors. Engaging writing and good execution of the plot makes a perfect combo.
