Can anyone figure out what’s wrong with M.E.N.? Journey along as three, young, African-American ladies, from South Central Los Angeles, Monique Harris, Eve Nelson, and Na’Tosha Jimerson try to navigate through life, dealing with inconsistent partners and society’s stigma of being angry, black women. When it comes to being let down by their significant other, the million-dollar question are men the ones truly at fault? Or, is it actually the “M.E.N.” from within who’re to blame?
Monique, Eve, and Na'Tosha, are the "M.E.N." that the title refers to. These women have been friends all of their lives and have each others' backs through wonderful ups and some really serious downs.
Monique seems to have it all together, but had a hard time letting her guard down to allow herself to be loved. Eve seemed to have it all and it all fell apart when her husband, DeShaun, turned from a loving, ambitious man into an abusive, cheating, lying, drunkard. And Na'Tosha...lawd...where do I begin? LOL. Na'Tosha was a very successful hairstylist with her own salon, but her weakness was Bo, her lying, cheating, stealing significant other.
And then there was Sunshine who came in towards the end of the book and all I can say about her is "da hell?" LOL
But, I digress. These women all learn some valuable lessons about love. One learned what love was NOT; one learned how to let go and let herself be loved; and one learned how to love herself again.
A wonderful book that will have you side-eyein', laughing, and tearing up from the beginning to the end!
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. C. W. got straight to the point with the drama, humor and reality. I could relate to each woman which made this read a page turner. It draws you in. Very good read. And with little to no grammatical errors because that’s very important. Kudos to his editor.
What’s Wrong With M.E.N. was a fun, contemporary novel about 3 ladies who were childhood friends who stayed together as ride or dies even through the ups and downs. However, the main plot and focus is and the journey of their relationship and love life woes. The book was VERY entertaining, but it also had some underlying messages that were well taken, which I’ll say more about at the end of the book.
But first, let me say that chileeee this book had me cracking the hell up from beginning to end. What’s wrong with M.E.N. !? Everything! Everything is wrong with these ladies! The characterization was phenomenal, and they were easily distinguishable due to great writing. Let’s get into the each of them.
M stands for Miss Monique. Miss insecure. Miss “every man doesn’t meet her standards.” Miss friend zone any and everybody she can. Miss rich and bougie!! She’s the perfect example of that friend who is super annoying because she keeps turning down all the fine niggas who want her that everyone else is dying to have. Now granted, there are reasons for why she acts that way — her heart has been broken, and she’s developed a pretty hard exterior because of it. And the men she dated online were scrubs lol. But I loved watching her growth and by the end, I was happy for her.
E stands for Eve, who my heart went out to the most. Her ex-husband Deshaun was so outta pocket, I was just begging for somebody to beat his ass. She was really just trying her best to make it work with taking care of her kids, dealing with her problematic ex, and move on to give her heart to someone who deserved it.
And last but not least, N stands for crazy ass Na’Tosha. She was just WILD. Bold, potty mouthed, loyal, and crazy, she was still a sensitive person who struggled with her on and off girlfriend Bo. She was definitely not the brightest crayon in the crayon box, however she was the most entertaining character in the book.
Some of the messages in the book that were takeaways were the importance of friendships, allow yourself to be loved after heartbreak, leaving toxic relationships, and self-reflection so that you’re your best self for someone else. Great read, go ahead and dive in on KU!! 💖
This book made me laugh, reflect on friendships i have with my girls and for once relate to all the characters being that I have girlfriends similar to each character. I truly enjoyed it and look forward to the next one!
