SHAMELESS

Bodyguard.

Shadow.

Warrior.

The Marines trained me to be a weapon. Tactical warfare was in my blood. I didn't think twice when I was deployed for the fifth time because I was born battle ready. Then a mission went south and left me with a medical discharge.

Too many years downrange, I didn't fit in the civilian world. Taking a job with the best security firm in the business seemed like a solid plan… until I was assigned babysitting duty for a spoiled little rich girl. The only thing worse than the assignment was the client's mouth. She thought she could run it—all over me—and not suffer the consequences. She was wrong.

Now she was about to find out how shameless a bodyguard could be.

*SHAMELESS is the sexy new standalone book in the Alpha Bodyguard Series.

The Alpha Bodyguard Series:

SCANDALOUS – Tank's story

MERCILESS – Collins's story

RECKLESS – Tyler's story

RUTHLESS – Sawyer's story

Shameless is emotional, angsty, action packed and a whole loft of dirty talking. I don't think you can get more alpha than this hero, and man did he have a mouth on him! He's the kind that comes off like a big jerk that will just turn you on. The heroine didn't stand a chance, especially after hearing about the hardware he was wearing. I had to look some of that up because I had no idea that was a thing. 😳 This is nothing like your mommas fluffy romance books!

Sybil Bartel is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. I love her alpha heroes. I’m loving this series and how we get to see glimpses of the other characters we grew to love in previous books. Neil will always be my favorite, but gah do I love Shade! I’ll admit I had to Google some of his, erm, hardware! “Cyborg”, Talon’s nickname for him was pretty hilarious. I loved this tatted, pierced Italian Stallion!

Summer, I thought she was irredeemable after reading about her druggie antics, but she came through. She acknowledged that she’s an entitled, spoiled brat and I appreciated it! There’s an age gap in this one and I loved how Shade is so shameless about it, and who Summer Amherst is, among other things. I’ll read everything by Mrs. Bartel. Her books are such a great escape. They have angst, heat, suspense, and intrigue-a winning combination!

I loved this book more than my first read of this author.
Summer gave more than she got and I enjoyed her sass and mouthy comebacks where hero was concerned. And Shade was an alpha through and through. I adored the second part where they both tried and finally succeeded in the their relationship.

In the beginning I was disappointed and almost dnfed the book because of a scene where hero reveals intimate details of his ONS infront of heroine.
But this book had a charm and I wanted to see how their relationship will proceed. Also I loved the protagonists who were so different from each other. So I’m glad I continued.

Safe and recommended.

This book was a struggle to start because one of the two main characters was not someone I liked... it's a side carrier from an earlier book in the series. I sincerely worried this would be a bratty, high, horrible FMC.... and if she's that way I didn't want to waste my time. HOW WRONG I WAS! the author does a great job maintaining the age of the FMC in her personality but instead of the story focused on her past it's on the ex marine's past and her future. Definitely glad I gave it a shot. Bonus points for a pierced pecker :P

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 STARs for Shameless

Let me tell you, after reading this eighth installment in Bartel's Alpha Bodyguard series I am certainly shameless in how IN LOVE I am with these hunky, mouth-watering, sexy and too hot to handle alpha men.

Like, seriously. I would pull the trigger for these men.

I couldn't wait to dive into Shade's story. He's been dangled in front us for months, and I am so glad he's finally here. I came running to find out about mysterious Shade. Man oh man, did I find out so much about Shade. I actually think I'm going to need to run to the hardware store in a few, for research purposes only. I swear.

This book was the perfect cool down to the hottest summer we've been having, and I mean that because this book finally gets something I've been wishing - no begging - for, a snowstorm! Okay, maybe I was only begging in my head. But, I'm so glad that this novel had an element different from the other bodyguard books. There was still the bodyguard element to this book, and it didn't veer far off the path that the rest of the series follows. I love it, the inter-connections, the characters knowing each other like the back of their hand, the twists and turns. The surprises! All of it. It slays me. I'd like to say Shade shaded me and cooled me down, but he only made me hotter. The snowy element cooled me down. But then Sybil went and cranked up the freaking HEAT!

This book is HOT, HOT, HOT! Age-gap, forbidden (sort-of) love, smart-mouthed heroine and off the charts romance? You got it, coming right up.

Phew, I think I started sweating half way through this book with all the pent up tension. Sybil Bartel took a different approach in this book... it was more of a slow-burn to me, rather than an instant love connection. Of course, it was still very thrilling, fast-paced and upbeat in the sense of having no filler chapters (we LOVE an action queen).

I know I say this a lot, but I think I just found the love of my life. Move over Tank, Sawyer and Ty... Shade's in town.

The epilogue.... SHADED ME. I wasn't expecting it at all. It was very different, more promising and forever than Sybil's normal epilogues. It gave me a sweet, warm blossom of hope deep in the middle of my chest that had me grinning like a fool.

In the year of disaster, Shameless is here to save us all. A MUST READ ROMANCE, the best romance of 2020.

If I were only allowed to choose one author to read for the remainder of my life, this is the one I would choose. I don’t know how she manages to do it, but EVERY SINGLE TIME, I am drawn in and stuck like glue to these pages, and Shameless is no different. The banter and chemistry between the two main characters are what I crave in every book that I read. The action, the steam, and the suspense is the icing on the cake. I loved this book so much. It’s never too early for a re-read, right?

2.5 stars

This had one of the best opening scenes ever. The banter between this couple was hilarious. They had amazing chemistry and I could just imagine these two being that super passionate couple who fight & bicker at each other like cats and dogs but also love on each other just as ardently.

Shade was hot as fuck with all his muscles, ink and ... erm ... hardware! Lord have mercy!

Decent amount of couple time in this book, but once again all of the love scenes in Bartel's books read the same, which after 6-7 books becomes boring as hell. It's such a pity because with guys like these, you know the sex would be a lot more creative, but she just won't go there. It's always the same positions - missionary lying down or maybe on a desk or wall and deep penetration. Great the first couple of times you read it, but after a while ... yawn!

I'm not asking for some BDSM type sh*t ... just a little bit more creativity with the sex scenes. The more creative sexual acts are only ever imagined or told as second hand information ... why tf mention it, if you aren't gonna show it? Grrrr...

I like Bartel's writing and her super authentic, true to life alpha heroes ... but it's becoming apparent that I'm not the biggest fan of her plotting or (most of) her heroines. She writes heroines for every woman, which is good I guess, but that means half the time I don't know the type of female character I'm getting & that can make or break a book for me. I have a certain type of heroine I like and if the female lead deviates too far from that, I can't relate to her and the book ends up suffering for that.

While this book had its moments, it's probably my 2nd least enjoyed book of the series after Callous. I skipped book 7 since I don't read ym/ow books and I haven't read book 9 yet so I don't know if that will change, but all I know is that I'm not a fan of new adult heroines, esp super young ones like Summer. I'm not really a fan of the new adult genre at all, though I always unexpectedly find myself reading a lot of NA in spite of this dislike.

I generally prefer older heroines (mid to late 20s), just older protagonists, full stop - whether male or female. I think new adults have so much life to figure out that they aren't fully aware of what a real relationship entails and demands (even though they think they do) so it's hard for me to buy into the relationship lasting any amount of time when one or both are so young.

I don't read romance just for the thrill of new love, I also read it for the hope that one can find a love that has the potential to last a very, very long time, if not a lifetime. That means creating conditions in which the characters have a chance to make this happen.

A spoiled, over-privileged 19 yr old junkie fresh out of rehab is a hard sell as serious relationship material, esp with a dominant 36 yr old man like Shade. This relationship just felt like a repeat of her stepmother's disastrous relationship with her father, who was also significantly older than his wife (Summer's stepmom). I can believe they're wildly in lust ... but not much else. Speaking of said lust

I didn't read book 7 so I didn't see the worse of all the shit Summer did as a result of her drug abuse (and I'm damn glad I didn't because I probably wouldn't have been able to read this book if I had), but I did get a glimpse from book 6 where this child got shot twice by her drug dealer/pimp!

So yeah, I knew she was in a bad way due to the drugs. And this wasn't just a few pills ... but hardcore drugs and pharmaceuticals this girl was hooked on. You don't get over that in 6 mths. I don't care how much money she has to buy the best medical care.

Once drugs take root in your brain, it's fucking hard to get it out. In fact, you never actually do get it out because recovering drug addicts will tell you that even after years of sobriety, that craving for drugs is still there, you just learn to ignore it and fight every day to not let it overcome you. Some lose that battle and succumb to addiction again after years of being clean.

This shit ain't no joke. Summer coming out of rehab and jumping into a hefty sexual relationship with a man almost twice her age is just a trainwreck waiting to happen. This girl doesn't even have a job to keep her occupied and distracted. And just six weeks prior to her release from said rehab, she was giving one of the night nurses a blowjob in exchange for weed. Yuck! I did not need to read that. I lost respect for her. Moreover, that act alone goes to show that this chick is nowhere ready to get serious about her addiction, much less a relationship.

I dunno, maybe Shade will love her enough to inspire and encourage her to stay on the straight and narrow, but we weren't shown enough growth in their relationship to indicate they can make this relationship work beyond their initial chemistry which they absolutely do have in spades. But that's not enough for me.

I think I would have been less pessimistic about their relationship if we'd gotten an epilogue a few years into the future, maybe 5 - 10 years, and we see that they're still happy and going strong, and Summer remains sober and doing something productive with her life. Maybe with a few little S H Ds running around. That would have been so cute.

We didn't get that, though, so I'm over here unsure & unsatisfied as fuck!

Of course, relationships between older protags can and do fall apart too. Usually it's without lack of life experience, maturity and a demon drug addiction complicating things even more, though. I like om/yw couples, but I need the girl to be a little bit older than a teenager (a positive, though, is that Bartel is wickedly good at imbuing her characters with personality & behavioural traits that's age appropriate & true to their status in life. Summer was as bratty & entitled as you can expect a spoiled, immature 19 yr old rich girl to be). However, I wanted to believe their relationship can last beyond lust. I didn't believe that here so I can't rate this more 2.5 stars.

Every time I read a new Sybil Bartel book, I think this is the best one yet and this book boyfriend is now my favorite, and then she writes Shameless, puts Jonny James on the cover, and makes me fall in love yet again. This book is all fire, Alpha male, and dominance. Shade is everything you say you hate, but secretly love in a man and when you find out his real name, SWOON. And Summer makes you want to scream and root for her in the same breath. I loved this book from first page to last and have the Kindle highlights to prove it. If you want a book with an entertaining plot, excellent dialogue, characters you want to know in real life, and sexy times that will make you melt, this is THE book! 5 Flames!

Oh Sybil, please don't stop... you just keep giving us what we all wish we had! Every Summer day needs a little Shade to survive. Well, I guess in this case it's a whole lot of SHaDe! I want to know how I missed him? It is always nice to have the crew show up to help and to see the angst between some of them. Can't wait for the next one!!

A great book to read. Shade is a bodyguard that doesn't let anybody push him over. He is sexy, stubborn, protective and good at his job. Love that he is very protective, sexy in a man. He gets himself into a little bit of a crisis. Summer is a teenager/woman. She has been in trouble her whole life. She is finally ready for something else for her life. I felt bad for her and the way she was brought up. No child should have to endure that. Getting these two together was a good match. She figured him out quicker than any other woman has. He wasn't ready for that. They had great chemistry and I love that in a couple. She is quite stubborn too. I love these two. I highly recommend reading this book. Another great read Sybil Bartel. Definitely wasn't disappointed. Love it.

5 stars is simply not enough for this masterpiece! But then again it never is for a Sybil Bartel book! Step over Beyonce, theres a new Queen B in town...and shes about to blow your mind with delicious fantasies of this alphahole hero! Where do I begin with Shade, he is rugged, crude, possessive, dominating, protective, pierced 😏, and just all around make your panties melt off sexy. I mean how does she create these men so perfectly?! I did an inward groan at the beginning of the book when i realized the heroine was Summer from previous books, I was not a fan of hers...however in true Mrs Bartel style she had me loving her by the end of the book. We got to see another side of her that was strong, mature and entertaining, one who could go toe to toe with someone as intimidating as Shade. This will be another one of those come back to time and again books because it just grabbed ahold of some piece of me that belongs to Sybil's books, this world she has created with Luna & Associates, is my favorite escape from reality. She truly has a gift, and I'm so thankful to have found her books! ❤

Shade...where do I even start with this man? You would think 8 books in, Sybil Bartel's alpha bodyguards would start to blend in or sound the same. Not the case here. Every alpha male she brings to life with her words are unique and sexy AF. They all have their quirks (or kinks hehe) that set them apart. Add in her interesting choice of heroines to compliment her alpha heroes and you have yourself stories that seem familiar but different every.single.time!

Shade is one hot Italian alpha. He's inked, he's big (6'5 and big in allllllll the right places), he's pierced (ladies, you aren't ready!) dominant, he expects his woman to listen, to obey...and I ate up every second when Summer pushed every one of his buttons! The banter was so damn hot between these two!

Speaking of heroines, Sybil is an amazing writer and storyteller for multiple reasons. One of these reasons is the unconventional heroines she pairs with her heroes. I could probably count on my hand the times when I would be reading one of her books, a new female secondary character would pop-up that was downright unlikeable and annoying. I would think to myself, please don't use this character as a future main heroine. Then Sybil does, and it blows my mind how she can take a character that seems irredeemable and show a side that is human and vulnerable. In Shameless, Summer did some truly shady things in a previous book. I downright disliked her. When I found out she would be the main heroine in this book, I was worried but quickly remembered how crazy talented Sybil is and jumped in with an open mind. After devouring this book, I honestly couldn't see Shade with anyone else. Summer has many layers to her and her back story and being able to get into her head helped to better understand why she did the things she did and what she has done and is doing to better herself. That's skill. To create three dimensional characters that show immense growth by the end of a story is truly a gift.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but we get a few unexpected surprises from previous alpha heroes that had me squealing with glee! Also, I need Ronan's book like, yesterday! And Harm? My lord...just when I think she can't create another mysterious, sexy alpha, she does. And I want him. I want a Ronan and Harm sandwich. A girl could dream!

Ladies, this book checks ALL of your jealous, possessive, dominant alpha boxes. Shade has definitely left an impression on me that I will not soon forget. Go one click this scorching hot read now!

Well, I will admit, Ms Sybil Bartel is sneaky. I had to go back and re-read Callous and Relentless before getting into Shades story. This is hardly a hardship, I must say. I got so caught up in all those bodyguards, by the time I regrouped, I was so ready to dive into Shade and Princess' book. Saying all that, this is a STANDALONE, you don't need to read any other book to enjoy this. Ms Bartel ensures you get a great back story on the characters.
What I loved about Shameless was the banter between the two characters. I wasn't a big fan of Summer in the previous books, but I knew Sybil would work it out. Summer had such a way of drawing Shade out and letting us see into his heart and soul. S H D....wow! What a man, bodyguard and alpha hero. The action was amazing as always. The cameos of our favorite alphas is always welcome and a treat. Talerco had more than a few scenes, to my delight. And, yes, Summer got a nickname which I thought was perfect! Obviously, Thomas, Andre, Candle, Harm and Ronan. Wow wow wow, as usual Sybil gets us ready for our next heroes and I can't wait. Thanks for the opportunity to read an advanced copy and share with others how great you are. It's so great to read a book you don't want to miss, a book you won't be able to put down. Enjoy Shade and Summer, it's a wild ride.

Holy Bookgasam, this book is hot hot hot

Do yourself a favor , go one click this and dive back it to the Alpha Bodyguard world with a heaped helping of Italian alpha goodness.

Shade is the epitome of alpha male, stubborn , arrogant, full of himself but the one women who stops him in his tracks is the last one he expected. Sent on a job to pick up spoilt brat Summer from rehab and bring her home , like often happens with these alpha bodyguards best laid plans never quite pan out.

When a past mistake comes back to bite Shade it ends with his latest jobs life is in danger. He doesn’t want to be responsible for the loss of a client so he sets off to get her to safety, but this princess is a sexy feisty woman who is going to be very hard to resist.

The banter between these two keeps the characters real, I was worried she might end up being a whiny bitch , but she was feisty and gave as good as she got so was likeable .

I have a whole new appreciation for hardware and will struggle not to laugh next time I’m at the local store to buy some nuts & bolts!!!

Be warned , this book is scorching hot , chemistry is through the roof and this alpha is a dominant beast who isn’t ashamed to deliver maximum pleasure ........ brace yourself :)

Marine vs Princess

In Shameless, we meet Marine & alpha bodyguard Shade; he is tall, dark, hot, quiet and mysterious.
We also have Summer; beautiful, young, vulnerable and just out of rehab....

The story is well written and as always Sybil rocked it!!
Love that the main characters were fully developed. And the chemistry between the main characters and the secondary one was exceptional.
It's an emotional roller coaster, some great action and oh my goodness can't forget the EPIC sexy and steamy bedroom scenes

The queen of Alpha military bad boys has really outdone herself with Shade...

Shade definitely puts the “A” in Alpha and is ALL manly man! Loved this story and the dynamic between the hero and his woman. Added to this adrenaline fueled adventure is a quick appearance by my man Candle (hey baby, you doing good? 😉) and the ever upbeat Talon. I’m convinced there should be an app where you can enter your name and it comes up with your Talon nickname 😍.

Ya’ll need this book in your life and on your bookshelf!!

I always wait eagerly for the next book that Sybil writes and am never disappointed. SHADE definitely delivers! Chemistry, alphaness, age gap, sass, and danger make for a story I read in one sitting. The cast of L&A show up, Talon appears with his special brand of nicknames and insight. New names are also mentioned which I can only hope means more to come for the series. I am excitedly waiting for the next book to be released!

Sybil Bartel has a way of writing about strong, sexy alphas and the ladies who love them in a way that makes you feel like you know them. Shameless is just one more notch on Sybils amazing list of hit books, with a tough as nails bodyguard who has a soft spot for the snotty trust fund princess. Shade is one hot alpha bodyguard with all the dominance and protection you’d expect from one of Sybil’s books.

Well, Ms. Bartel (IMO) hits ANOTHER one out of the park with 'Shameless'.
Shade is the deliciously intense moody broody Alpha hero, former Marine, lethal, grumpy, no-nonsense & focused. And he is REALLY REALLY not happy with his current assignment.
The heroine is on the cusp of being 20, is spoiled, has a huge sense of entitlement combined with a deeply hidden personal insecurity & bone deep craving for actual love from someone.
Her father gave her money & things but no love, no time & no praise. Her stepmother tried but the heroine's sarcastic & downright vicious defense mechanisms were already long in place before her stepmother's arrival. And as she grew older the emotional damage needed strong & stronger self-medication which finally lands her in rehab.
Again.
Only this time she makes it through the entire treatment & waits to be picked up. Only neither her father or her stepmother show up.
Shade does.
And Shade makes it crystal clear from the start, he has no time or interest in indulging or suffering her attitude, her temper tantrums or self entitlement. She makes it clear she'll keep trying.
This one is a tightly & wonderfully written roller coaster ride involving a hardened, hard a$$ former Marine & a young woman who's made too many wrong choices in her short life. And yet another bad decision on her part causes Shade's assignment to suddenly veer 180 degrees from babysitting to protecting the heroine from vicious killers. But the longer they're in close contact the more each realizes just how much they're attracted to & intensely desire the other. No matter the age gap (approx 20 yrs), the differences in lifestyle or the financial chasm.
Although there isn't a lot of bedroom activity in this one, there IS a LOT of sensual heat & lust that almost seems to fog up the Kindle's pages. And Shade & the heroine's constant verbal & emotional battles ratchet up both the sensual heat & tension & place the reader on delectable tenterhooks wondering & worrying what will happen next.
And as always, Ms. Bartel's writing is smooth, sucks the reader into the book immediately & keeps you there for all the nail-biting action, suspense, danger & of course the sizzling heat.
Shade was, for me, an absolutely stellar Alpha hero, huge, muscled, moody, broody, grumpy & possessing lethal abilities. YUM!!
However, (& this is purely my *personal* dislike) I truly did not care for the heroine. At all. To be clear, she was very well written; I felt her actions & personality were completely realistic. And that's why I didn't care for her. She was too drama ridden, too reactive, too shoot from the hip emotionally: all believable for a 19 yr old, but if not for her banging body I don't know that ANY of the Luna & Associates operatives would be interested in her. But that's my feeling.
All in all this is another superb entry in Ms. Bartel's 'Alpha Bodyguards' line up, with excellent writing, an intriguing plot, danger, tension, sizzle & action. And, I have to say I truly enjoyed it immensely.

Oh my gosh. This one is off the charts H O T !!!!! Sybil has given us Shade. His alpha personality is in a league all of his own. Love this book so much. If you’re familiar with all her books you know that she does alpha like nobody else. Luna & Associates personal bodyguards are always swoon worthy, but I’m telling y’all she has outdone herself this time. Love to see Talon, Thomas, Ronan, and Candle again as well. Get ready cuz we meet a totally new awesome Summer this time too.

SEXY! AND EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED FOR THE WEEKEND! I've always been a fan for bodyguard troupes and even better when the heroine's a mouthy/bratty socialite. I plead guilty that this was an absolute fantasy delight and it didn't hurt that the characters were HOT AS FUCK.

SUMMER had her moments where she proved to be 19 years old in maturity and sometimes surprises you with her jaded view on life. A typical trust fund baby with daddy issues, Summer's the wild child you can expect her to be, one who partied too hard and attempted to fill up the emptiness in her life with fake friends, money and drugs. I haven't read any other Alpha Bodyguard books prior to this so I wasn't entirely sure if Summer starred in any, either way, I don't think she was the good guy in them seeing as how she was a drug addict and nearly caused her stepmother's death. Summer's mouthy behaviour was a front she wielded - a defensive mechanism, I presume. I found her annoying and difficult to like in the beginning, before we got to see the insecurity and loneliness that was eating her up inside. Otherwise, she could be sweet and cute and I guess the japanese people would have a term for someone like her - a total tsundere.

SHADE, my my my, that one had a mouth on him - a complete alphahole. I guess you don't need me to tell you what kind of jerk he is, as I'm sure other reviewers have said the same. He's the hot kind you want to slap in the face yet fuck him seven ways till sunday. A medically retired marine, Shade works with Andre Luna and has been assigned to "look after" Summer. Naturally, the two clash the moment they meet and the sexual tension builds. For a 36 year old, I wouldn't say he acted his age most of the time. If not for his protectiveness and consideration, I can understand why he's never dated a single woman, other than the fact that he only fucked them and leave em, thus leading to the plot drive. If you ask me, the entire reason that got his holed up with Summer in his mountain cabin was ridiculous. He couldn't keep his dick in his pants, fucked a mafioso's lunatic wife and now has to answer for it. THAT MADE HIM LOOKED ENTIRELY RIDICULOUS...and made me want to scream ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? I expected them to be hunted down by the mafia for better and legitimate reasons other than the male lead screwing another man's wife.

OVERALL this was a guilty pleasure. I enjoyed it very much, and while I adored the sexual tension, I would have loved to see more smexy times, and of course had a better development between Shade and Summer. Frankly, he wasn't wrong that the end of their story was only the beginning of their life's story and I was secretly thrilled by what a possessive caveman he was. When he said he wanted to put a baby into her.....mmm mmm, that just checked off my well-pleasured box.
