Silver Springs #7

A California Christmas

Rate this book
Up-and-coming TV anchor Emery Bliss can’t imagine anything more humiliating than the sex tape her ex revenge-posted online. That is, until it causes her to lose her job on top of her self-esteem. Seeking solace—and anonymity—in Silver Springs, Emery isn’t looking to get involved with another man anytime soon. But when she’s thrown back into contact with Dallas Turner, she sees something that his many detractors have missed.

Being home for the holidays and his adoptive mother’s wedding isn’t where mountain climber Dallas feels most comfortable. Thanks to his troubled childhood, he’d rather be on a rock face alone than trying to connect with people. Emery, however, makes him want to overcome his past…somehow.

Both Emery and Dallas had been planning on a quiet, solitary Christmas, but the sparks between them are lighting a fire strong enough to last—possibly forever.

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she continues to publish two or three novels a year, in a variety of genres.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. Now that they are empty-nesters, she spends her free time babysitting her two grandchildren.

When she’s not with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising money for diabetes research. To date, she's raised almost $2.6 million. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!

A California Christmas by Brenda Novak is a 2020 MIRA publication.

An engaging romance!

Emery, a news anchor in Los Angeles, and her colleague, Ethan, embark on a relationship, defying the contract they signed, stating co-workers are not allowed to date.

When Emery decides to break things off, Ethan, obsessed and angry, uploads a sex tape online, one Emery had no idea even existed.

Due to her public persona, his 'revenge porn' quickly goes viral. Both she and Ethan are fired for breaking the dating rules. While Ethan lands of his feet, Emery is hiding out in Silver Springs with Aiyana, the woman who runs Horizon’s Ranch, too mortified to be seen in public.

When Aiyana’s family begins to trickle in for Christmas and Aiyana's wedding, Emery gets reacquainted with Dallas, one of Aiyana's adopted sons.

Dallas is a rock climber, haunted by his tragic past. Although the pair were classmates, they never got to know each other- but now, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them.

Obviously, neither of them is in a place to even think about relationships. That doesn’t mean they can’t help one another through some difficult times, though, right?

Southern California at Christmas – okay, not the cold, snowy climate, we often expect in holiday themed novels, but the Christmas spirit is just as strong, and important no matter where you live or what the weather is like. In fact, I thought the idea of setting a holiday story in sunny California was a great idea!

The characters each have heavy issues to face. Emery is almost paralyzed by her predicament, her ex is making her life miserable, and her parents are going through a contentious divorce. Dallas is coping with a guilt so consuming he can’t live life to its fullest, much less entertain the idea of falling in love and being happy with Emery.

I enjoyed watching the two face their fears, accept the path their lives have taken, seeing them give themselves permission to open their hearts to hope and love.

While the book does take place during the holidays, and Christmas is mentioned periodically, as with other Christmas books I’ve read this year, it is definitely not a prominent theme.

As I’ve said before, the bright side of that is the book can be read anytime of the year, but I’m still on the hunt for that emotional, warm, fuzzy, heartwarming tale fully centered on the holiday featured in the title and on the cover. I think I may have to hunt down some older books to find what I’m craving.

Despite that, I really enjoyed the story and liked the premise, location, and the characters, and of course the touching love story. For those who noticed this is a part of a series, I have not read the previous installments and it didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the book at all- but did make me want to catch up with series someday.

Overall, another lovely effort by Ms. Novak!

Multiple story strains in the second chance romance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This novel is part of a series of which I have not read any books prior. However, that really didn’t distract me from following the story and enjoying this book.
Novak writes a story about a family who takes in troubled kids. It’s a huge family of boys who has struggled with abandonment, abuse, and other tragedies in their life.
It’s a healing process that the author chooses to spin in a beautiful light. It’s not often that you find families willing to dedicate their lives to supporting troubled youth.
The story features one of the troubled youth who is now a grown adult with his own up-and-coming business and when his secret crush comes back to town under the shadow of a crushing blow it’s he who supports her.
Delicately and tentatively they reach out and become stronger together. It’s a slow and delicate process throughout the book interacting with others, slowly developing that heated connection that Novak expresses with plenty of steamy passion.
The story is real, raw, and explores topics that we don’t usually see in a romance. A lovely combination of women’s fiction and a heated love story that is a delightful second chance for love.
A California Christmas by Brenda Novak is the seventh book in the contemporary romance Silver Springs series. Now as with a lot of romance series the main characters in each of the Silver Springs series change in each new novel with the setting being the common theme so they can be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so.
Emery Bliss had the career of her dreams as a TV anchor and was climbing up the ranks. However, Emery did make one mistake and that was getting involved with a co-worker which as against the rules. When Emery did try to break it off he posted a sex video of her online for revenge and she ends up losing her job over the whole scandal.
Due to all the negative publicity Emery decided to head to Silver Springs and hide out with Aiyana at Horizon’s Ranch. Aiyana is known for helping those in need, including Dallas Turner who had been adopted by Aiyana when he needed her most and who has returned to the ranch for Christmas. Dallas is still never good with people but there is just something about Emery that he soon finds himself drawn to and the sparks begin to fly.
I have said it before but I’ll say it again Brenda Novak is an author that once I picked up one of her books I wanted to find time to read them all. Her stories always just pull me in and don’t let go until the end whether it’s a romance or thriller and A California Christmas was the same way. I haven’t read this entire series myself so I can also say for sure that it reads fine as a standalone. The characters were likable and the story engaging so I will still continue to read any by this author I can get my hands on.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Emery Bliss is a Los Angeles television news anchor with a promising career ahead of her. It all changed in an instant when a disgruntled ex-boyfriend uploads a sex video he secretly taped and ruins her professionally and personally. She returns to Silver Springs where she grew up, in retreat and hiding out at Aiyana Turner’s home who graciously offered her help. Christmas is fast approaching and all of Aiyana’s sons will be home for the holidays, the first time she’ll have them in the same town in years. That includes Dallas, a professional mountain climber, who had a crush on Emery back in high school but is a confirmed bachelor because of the demands of his career. However, his decision to help Emery regain her confidence and footing is threatening that choice.
What happened to Emery is called revenge porn (or nonconsensual pornography) and there are laws against that in many states, including California. I appreciated the educational aspect included in this story as so many women are victims of this kind of assault and may be unaware that there is recourse. Dallas focused on Emery standing up for herself, going above and beyond in doing so. He didn’t try to have all the answers, just being that rock when she needed one and getting her to reach out for legal assistance. That aspect of the story was fascinating and was the foundation for their developing relationship. It was a slow burn and needed to be, which suited my sensibilities.
I don’t know what it is about this series but I’m forever hooked and drawn into the stories. Watching Emery stand up for herself and recognizing Dallas’s merits was empowering. There were other issues going on involving Dallas’s biological father, Emery’s parents and her former job. I liked how it all connected with both characters’ growth and enlightenment. There’s also a nice surprise related to Aiyana that was an added bonus. This was a wonderful story for the beginning of my holiday season. Even though there are many uneasy moments, the strength and resilience of this family seems to always override the conflicts. I switched to the audio format after the first book and am still enjoying the narrator. She’s a good storyteller and delivers a strong performance.
Favorite Quote:
Attitudes are as catchy as the flu.
My Review:
This holiday romance featured multiple storylines which were all equally engaging and well-nuanced with family drama, wedding prep for an older couple, career crossroads, a revenge-porn sex-tape scandal, a new budding relationship that was meant to be a non-romance, and new beginnings. Ms. Novak’s small-town characters were immensely likable, realistically flawed, and held my interest. The story threads were busy and eventful yet relatively easy to follow, even for someone like me who is not familiar with the series or read the previous installments, although now I am feeling the pull to do so as I am quite curious about several of the characters.
Free solo climber Dallas Turner has a messy past. He climbs to escape, to free his mind. Going home to New Horizons ranch for his adoptive mom’s wedding (and Christmas) the last person he expects to see is Emery Bliss, his high school crush. Emery was Little Miss Perfect back then and she’s gone on to a successful career as a TV anchor… until her spurned co-host posted a sex tape and Emery was the one who got fired for it. She’s hiding out at New Horizons, trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces.
There were some really odd things about this book that just made it fall a bit flat for me. Emery not getting to be there at the final confrontation to catch her tormentor, with Dallas teaming up with her ex instead? Some dude called Brian who Dallas talked to only on the phone being the one to give him the Words of Wisdom he needed, rather than his loving mom Aiyana? Then there was a weird Chekov’s Gun which never went off, when Dallas called another free climber he’d been coaching to check on him and the guy didn’t answer his phone and never called back… I really thought that one was going to be either, they guy had suffered a serious fall and Dallas would feel guilt, or the guy would call back and rave about Dallas’s coaching abilities, making him think more seriously about his possible purchase of a gym. Instead, it was raised, dropped and never mentioned again, meaning it breaks one of the cardinal rules of writing… if a scene doesn’t advance the plot, it doesn’t belong in the book.
Dallas as a character reads a bit like the author watched Free Solo and developed a massive crush on Alex Honnold (namechecked several times in this book) and decided to write a hero heavily based on him, but with added Tragic Backstory. I was honestly horrified when Aiyana made the decision not to tell Dallas that his real father, the man who murdered his mother and sister, was out of jail and looking for him because she didn’t want it to ruin HER wedding… and surely, parole boards talk to victims before deciding whether to let violent criminals like that go? Or advise them that they ARE going to be released? It just felt like there was too much going on. Like the revenge porn plot against Emery wasn’t enough for the story, so Dallas just HAD to have major stuff going on too? Oh and Emery’s parents are undergoing a messy divorce and her grandmother has dementia… it got to feel like misery p*rn at one point and it really detracted from the romance, because it’s hard to believe in a happily ever after when all that stuff is going on and not all of it gets resolved at the end.
I’ve enjoyed some of Brenda Novak’s books before but this had too much suspense plot and other stuff going on at the expense of actually developing a romance between the two leads. It’s not terrible, but it really missed the mark as far as I was concerned. Three stars.
A California Christmas is the 7th book in the Silver Springs series by Brenda Novak. I've really enjoyed reading many of Novak's hoiday tales in the past but A California Christmas fell flate for me. Generally, when a holiday tale comes along in the series the author gives you enough back story about others surrounding the main characters, or even the main characters themselves. I found myself getting annoyed because the author assumed I knew things that I did not SO, with that said, I wouldn't recommend this book unless you've read the others in the series. That said, and this is such a personal quirk, I cannot read and engage with any character named "Dallas." Seriously, that's a great name for a city and it's a great porn name but it is not a great name for a character who doesn't work for the Chippendales. This one was not for me.
*I received a free review copy of A California Christmas from NetGalley. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
This series is such a feel-good series, and I mostly enjoyed my trip back to Silver Springs in A California Christmas.
Emery was in hiding at Aiyana's New Horizons after her ex boyfriend and former news anchor colleague leaked a sex tape of her. Not only did she feel incredibly exposed (I mean - who wouldn't?), but she also lost her job, and had a lot to deal with personally with her parents' divorce on top of everything else.
Dallas is one of Aiyana's adopted sons, and he's one that hasn't been present very much in the prior books in the series.
I have to admit, my favorite part of this novel was the fact that Aiyana and Cal were finally getting married! It's been a long time coming, and I sort of wish this story would have been all about them. Aiyana's backstory hasn't really been explored much, and she's the pillar of not only New Horizons, but also of both her community and her family.
Parts of the story felt a little hastily thrown together, Emery got a job with Susan at her bakery - and somehow, Susan is now little Mrs. forgive and forget, after being so filled with hate for most of her life. There was also the fact that Aiyana thought Dallas' biological father had changed, thus she gave him the means to get in touch with Dallas against Dallas' wishes. Not only that, but she paid him off to keep him away until after Christmas, and that didn't seem to be like her at all.
While I overall enjoyed the chemistry between Emery and Dallas, I wish the story would have concentrated fully on one couple.
Good book that takes place at the New Horizons ranch in Silver Springs. Aiyanna started the ranch many years before to help at-risk young men. Some of those boys she adopted, and they have grown into fine adults. Aiyanna is about to marry her long-time love, and her adoptive sons have returned to Silver Springs for the celebration. One of those men is Dallas Turner.
Dallas witnessed his father murder his mother and sister when he was a boy. After years in the foster system, he ended up at New Horizons. Even after all these years, Dallas bears a tremendous amount of guilt, feeling that he should have saved them. He prefers to spend his time on his solo mountain climbing career, where he can hide from his memories, than around people he has to talk to. The last person he expects to encounter when he comes home for his mother's wedding is his high school crush, Emery.
Emery left Silver Springs after college and moved to LA, where she became a television news anchor. Her career was going well until her secret relationship with her co-anchor ended. When she wouldn't get back with him, Ethan posted a revenge-porn video on the internet, causing an end to her career and a hit to her self-esteem. Sinking under the weight of despair and depression, Emery ends up at New Horizons, staying with her mom's friend, Aiyanna. Silver Springs is the perfect place for her to lick her wounds and decide what to do about her future. The last thing she wants is to get involved with another man.
I liked the development of the relationship between Emery and Dallas. His protective instincts are aroused when he hears what happened to Emery. I loved that he immediately believed her story and that he wanted to do something about it. It was sweet to see how Dallas made a point of helping Emery overcome her embarrassment and fear of appearing in public. Though there were sparks between them from the first, they tried to stick to being friends. Neither felt they were in a place for more than that. Emery questions her judgment when it comes to men after being so wrong about Ethan. Dallas is too haunted by his past to believe that he can give Emery the stability she needs. I loved the support Dallas gave Emery as she made decisions about her future. There were some fun scenes where that support was a bit more involved than I expected. The more time they spent together, the stronger their attraction grew until they couldn't help but give in to it. As they grew closer, I liked seeing Emery chip away at Dallas's walls and help him work through his guilt, but there are still obstacles that face them. An unexpected visitor from his past brought back his pain but also helped him confront it. I liked the effect it had on him and his hopes for a future with Emery. I liked his big moment at the end, and the epilogue was terrific.
A California Christmas by Brenda Novak
Silver Springs #7
Coming into this series on book seven was not a problem. I wasn’t sure who everyone was, but it didn’t matter in the telling of the story of Emery and Dallas. I settled in easily and enjoyed it thoroughly!
Emery Bliss has had a horrible situation descend on her…revenge porn on the internet that won’t go away has cost her not only public scrutiny and castigation on the internet but also has seen her fired from the job she loved as a news anchor. Tail tucked between her legs she ran to hide in Silver Springs with a friend of her mother’s. In addition to the chaos in her personal life why not throw in parents in the midst of an acrimonious divorce and a grandmother facing senility and she is a wee bit beyond woebegone.
So, who does she meet in the first few pages of the book? Dallas Turner, home for the holidays to help his mother get ready for her wedding. His mother and brothers, all adopted sons of Aiyana, are intriguing characters I wish I had met in book one and followed through the series BUT…perhaps in the future I will catch up with them. Anyway, the story was delicious and delightful and filled with ups and downs and problems to sort out and solve. Love wasn’t a given but it was definitely hoped for.
What I liked:
* Emery: a professional woman on her way up, battered on the internet, struggling to cope, in need of a good friend and a safe place to stay. I liked her.
* Dallas: a professional mountain climber, carrying a heavy load from childhood, a good friend-brother-son-man, he has a lot to give, needs to learn to open up and to move forward. I liked him.
* Aiyana: a strong woman with a backstory that no doubt was told in the past…intriguing woman and wonderful mother to young men that cold have been lost without her.
* The way the person who posted the intimate tape online was exposed and made accountable
* The way that Emery and Dallas slowly came together
* The brothers
* Cal, Aiyana’s fiancé
* The woman who hired Emery for a short time
* That the perpetrator of the revenge porn post was eventually dealt with
What I did not like:
* The double standard related to tape that went online
* The person that put the video up online
* Knowing that this sort of thing happens in real life
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author/in this series? Definitely
Thank you to Harper Collins - Harlequin-Mira for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Brenda Novak’s A California Christmas delivers a heartwarming holiday tale that’s as emotionally resonant as it is romantic. The story follows Emery Bliss, a young TV anchor grappling with the fallout of a devastating personal scandal. After her ex releases a sex tape, she escapes to Silver Springs to find solace. There, she crosses paths with Dallas Turner, a man with his own painful past. Dallas has spent over two decades trying to outrun the dark family trauma that now threatens to resurface. Together, they navigate their personal struggles while finding unexpected connection and healing.
Novak skillfully weaves themes of resilience and redemption into this holiday romance. Emery is a strong, determined protagonist whose vulnerability makes her deeply relatable, while Dallas’s complex layers and unflinching loyalty make him an ideal counterpart. Their chemistry is palpable, and their journey to trust and love feels genuine. The idyllic Silver Springs setting enhances the story, creating a cozy yet emotionally charged atmosphere perfect for the season.
That said, the novel occasionally falters in pacing, particularly as it juggles the intensity of Emery and Dallas’s individual backstories. At times, it feels like there’s almost too much packed into the narrative. Still, Novak’s ability to handle heavy topics with sensitivity and grace ensures the emotional core remains intact.
Overall, A California Christmas is a touching, thought-provoking holiday romance that balances the joy of new beginnings with the weight of past pain. It’s perfect for readers looking for a story with heart, substance, and a dash of holiday magic.
4 out of 5 stars.
Pretty good romance novel. The main couple got "together" pretty fast so this was more about them getting through their issues than it was them just coming together. There were several things going on with the story so it never lagged. I haven't read any others in this series, but I plan on getting them in the future!
A sweet book where two humans hurt by their past came together to find love and blessed peace with one another. A sex tape released online caused Emery to leave everything and come back home. Dallas too came back for his mother's wedding. Romance ensued
Brenda Novak was an awesome author and all her books helped to put a smile on my face. This too did its job to make me happy. The writing brought out nuances and emotions. The story held my attention.
Overall, a sweet read to escape the realities of life.
The unthinkable has happened to news journalist Emery Bliss: a sex tape has been leaked online. She loses her job as a result of this and retreats across the country to give the gossip and news time to die down a little bit. She ends up staying in Dallas Turner's childhood home at the invitation of his mother, and since he has come home for Christmas, the two are thrown into close proximity. Neither are looking for a relationship, but the more they help each other through baggage they're carrying around, the more they fall in love.
Normally I like to read series books in order, but I saw a lot of reviews that say the Silver Springs novels can stand alone and any one is a good starting point. So I began this series with the 7th book because it is a Christmas story.
This is a good story. I have really enjoyed some other books by Ms. Novak-especially her non-series title One Perfect Summer from early 2020. I like the way she gives the story depth by including issues. This book had some fairly heavy issues like murder, found family, and revenge porn.
I loved that most of the characters are all a part of this one huge family. When I looked back at the synopses of the previous book in this series, it looks like many of the other family members have been highlighted in previous installments. This was really obvious to me while I was reading. The story reads okay as an entry point into the series, but if I'd have known the origin stories for Dallas' siblings before reading this one, it would have been better. I'd have probably been more able to keep up with who is who (there are so many siblings!), but it would also have helped me understand the ages of the siblings. They range from young, to middle/high school, to adults who are married with their own families. There was so much that was alluded to from the siblings' pasts that made me feel like I was missing out on a lot.
One little thing: It wasn't as Christmas-y as I had hoped. I wish there had been holiday things that made me feel surrounded by the holiday while I read. Snow, meals, decorations-things like that. Mostly, Christmas is the time setting of the story and is happening in the background of everything else rather than being a large part of the narrative. That's totally okay; I'll just adjust my expectations when I read this one again in the future.
I feel like I will connect more with this installment when I go back to the beginning of this series and start over from there.
Professional rock climber Dallas Turner is heading home for Christmas. Although he is a loner by nature, he wouldn’t miss this family gathering for anything. Aiyana, his adoptive mom, is finally getting married. She basically saved Dallas from himself and his nightmarish past. He still struggles with ghosts, but Aiyana and his adoptive brothers have made life bearable.
Walking through his mom’s door, Dallas didn’t expect to see Emery Bliss, an L.A. news anchor, wearing next to nothing. Dallas had known of Emery when she was younger. She went to high school in Silver Springs, while Dallas attended the school his mom ran for troubled kids.
Aiyana opened up her home to Emery after a sex tape posted by her ex-boyfriend caused her to lose her job and her self-esteem. Emery needed some time to collect her thoughts, and to figure out her next move. She certainly wasn’t looking for another relationship anytime soon. How could she ever trust anyone again?
When Dallas helps Emery find her confidence again, the flames of desire start to build between the two. But Dallas knows he could never give Emery the stability she needs; there is just too much still haunting him. Emery wonders if it’s better to just walk away before she gets hurt again.
I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, yet I was immediately immersed in the story and attached to the characters. Novak has an ease in her writing that makes the narrative feel natural and comfortable. Silver Springs is a place I’d love to revisit.
A California Christmas by Brenda Novak is a wonderful, romantic festive tale set in Silver Springs, California. Even though I'm extremely late to the party, jumping in at book seven, this was still a fabulous read for me, working just fine as an individual story. TV anchor Emery Bliss has returned home, spending time at New Horizons ranch following an embarrassing and humiliating time in Los Angeles when her ex revenge-posted a revealing tape of her online, resulting in her losing her job she adored. Not looking for romance any time soon, she’s thrown back into contact with Dallas Turner, who's home for the Christmas holidays and his adoptive mother’s wedding...
The story is real, tender, and explores some topics not often seen in a romance. A heavenly story with another chance for love, the plot unearths some wonderful, touching moments between Emery and Dallas and I particularly liked Brenda Novak's portrayal of his supportiveness towards Emery. I welcomed the big moment at the end of the tale, and the epilogue was superb. An immensely compelling and engaging Christmas romance that I really enjoyed, I'm looking forward to reading book eight - When I Found You - as well as the rest of the series.
So this is my first book by Brenda Novak. It's the seventh book in the Silver Springs series involving a small town with some complicated residents. And a large family who takes in troubled youth.
Our heroine Emery Bliss, moved to Los Angeles in hopes of being a famous news anchor. All is well until her ex posts a sex tape of her online, which causes her to loose her job and she runs home seeking solace. Since her parents aren't in town due to their impending divorce, she stays with Aiyana, who is the hero's adopted mother.
Dallas, is home helping with his adopted mother's wedding and Looking for ways to cope with his past. An unexpected guest brings up feelings from his childhood.
They are prompted to help with Aiyana's wedding which starts them down a path that nether one was seeking. Both having their own relationship hang-ups, Dallas helps Emery in a slow and tentative process which brings them closer. Did they find something in each other that they didn't know they wanted?
It's romance story filled with real topics that are typically raw and emotional to the public and aren't usually discussed in the way that she writes them. The healing process of each character is what will draw you into this story.
I want to thank Netgalley and the Publisher MIRA.
Well it's the time of year when I switch to Christmas novels. This one was enjoyable, but it wasn't super Christmas-y.
It's a book in the middle of a series but that didn't bother me. There's enough background on the characters that it didn't feel like I was missing context.
There is some open door romance, so if that's not your thing, avoid this book (and probably the author, but I've never read her before so don't take my word on that).
There was some nice depth to most of the characters, and a twist towards the end that actually managed to surprise me, so overall, it was pretty good. I'm not tempted to rush out and buy the whole series or anything, but it did its job.
Welcome back to Silver Springs!
Where Emery is currently staying after losing her job, her boyfriend, her reputation and her self respect !
Enter ... Dallas who would prefer solitude instead of all the messy entanglements of a relationship. I cheered and cried for this couple. At times I wanted to yell at them and hug them !
Just when you think you’ve read the best book in this series, the author digs deeper with each book !
This was my favorite Silver Springs book! It was the steamiest and sexiest by far !
We get to catch up with all our favorite neighbors, attend a wedding and celebrate the Christmas season !
This is an interesting story that takes place around Christmas time (it's actually Christmas for just about 5% of the book). There's some romance, some vengeance, and some family time. Emery's life is changed after her boyfriend and cohost decides to release a sex video after they broke up. She tries to escape to Silver Springs, where she stays with a family friend. There she spends time with their family, and rediscover what is really important in life. I was not a huge fan of the main characters (Dallas is a weird guy, Emery is not relatable), but the story is interesting and has a bit of suspense to it.
Returning to Silver Springs feels like going home for me. This is the only romance series like this that I've read, and I can't help but love every story. Ms. Novak has a knack for writing a story that pulls you in and has you rooting for love right from the start.
I loved the chemistry between Emery and Dallas. Even more than that, I loved Dallas's journey. This is a book that any fan of the series will enjoy. It isn't one I would read on its own, just because you'll miss so much backstop. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday trip to Silver Springs and am looking forward to reading the next installment.
Brenda Novak has added another fantastic book to The Silver Springs series. Dallas has a hard time overcoming the event he witnessed when he was six years old. Can a new woman in his life help him to overcome his desire to go through life alone? This book is well written and certainly was a page turner for me. If you’re a fan of romantic fiction, don’t miss this book. Better yet, start at the beginning of the series to see how how all the characters have evolved.
Another fabulous book by one of my favorite authors. She brought Emery and Dallas and the whole family from New Horizons together for the holidays. Emery had a fabulous job that she loved but her boyfriend ruined all that after she broke up with him. Her career was ruined as well as her reputation. She was welcomed to hide away with Ayanina and her family and the lost son Dallas was back home for his mom’s wedding. Dallas became her protector and much more.
Thanks to Brenda another awesome Christmas story of love , some mystery as well.
I love small town series romance, for me there’s something wonderful about going back and visiting characters, like visiting friends and family - but ones you actually want to spend time with. This particular series has the added bonus of having kids that had troubled childhoods, Dallas’ mom and sister were killed in front of him basically, and he goes to the boys’ home and school.
Now, for me, these are the characters I love seeing get a HEA, and if they have bumps and issues along the way, well, they have reasons.
The story is set in Silver Springs. It tells the story of Emery Bliss a tv anchor who has had a sex tape featuring her and a former boyfriend. The boyfriend is her co-anchor who claims to know nothing about the tape. The male main character is Dallas Turner who is in town for a wedding and Christmas. The two meet and sparks fly but both are damaged and not sure what to do next. The book was an easy read.
I enjoyed this book, but my fault for reading it as a standalone. I think I would have rated it higher if I knew the backstories of the characters. It's not what I would call a holiday book, the title is a bit misleading. Overall a fun read with some steamy romance! I will be rereading once I have caught up with the series.
