I usually love Debbie Macomber books, but this is a huge exception...two short stories about two couples that discover each other again after years apart, knowing each other in their youth and now getting romantically involved. Opposites attract was the basis, but fighting their feelings was too obvious and I couldn't like the characters. Just one if those books that once started, couldn't wait to finish...

I found the two stories in this book to be an enjoyable read with an interesting premise of relationships developing between people who come together after years of not seeing each other. Both approached it quite differently, one from a friendship perspective and the other from a love/hate relationship. Communication and self esteem were key issues. The second store included elements of suspense after serving on a jury trial that ended as a mistrial.

Ms. Macomber has combined two short stories in this book. White Lace and Promises and Jury of her Peers.

White Lace and Promises

Maggie and Glenn were best friends when they were children. They have each moved on with their lives but are reunited at their friend's wedding. Are they each feeling the same sparks for each other. Love is definitely in the air and they seem to have caught it.

On a quick and impulsive decision, they decide to go to Las Vegas and get married leaving the wedding early. Will they be able to keep the romance alive? A book about rediscovering what they had as children and seeing if they are now older and continue to feel the same way about each other.

Jury of his Peers

Caroline and Ted have not seen each other since high school. Called to serve on the same jury they realize how much they have in common in spite of the outward appearances. He has always loved her but he has to convince her that those feelings never left. An ok read not one of her best.

I have never read Debbie Macomber before, and this book was a disappointment. Neither of the two short stories had likeable characters or a good solid story you could get into. There were no endings, the stories just basically dropped off. These two stories were flimsy at best, and I don't know why I kept reading and finished the book. The author is popular and her stories are supposed to be really good, so I will try another book of hers in the future.

Sorry but these two stories fell short for me.
I had trouble relating to the characters and their decisions and how to deal with their feelings in their relationships.
At times I was annoyed with how they dealt with things.

This book contains two short stories. The moral of both is pride is dangerous and could cost you what you really want and two communication is key in any good relationship.

Only read the first of the two stories. It wasn’t a page turner. There wasn’t anything you were looking forward to. It was honestly mostly everyday life stories.

Finding You Again by Debbie Macomber is a two-in-one read. It contains two similar in nature kind of stories that pull readers into the characters' lives. I was totally enjoying the reads especially, The White Lace and Promises story. That particular tale was my favorite of the two. It features two best friends who later meet up at a mutual friends wedding. It has been ten plus years since they have graduated high school together.

One is a female artist who inherited a lot of wealth. With that wealth comes a lot of money hungry sharks. Thus, she's not so happy. She also misses her best friend slash nemesis, Glenn. Glenn works for a company and missed out on marrying a woman because she married another man. He comes back to his home place for a friend's wedding. He instantly connects with Maggie his childhood friend. She has grown into a beautiful person inside and out.

He and Maggie soon feel reconnection and attraction that hits them like an unexpected storm. Soon, their lives take a fast turn and it's up to them to fight for wha they want. I was laughing a lot with these two. Maggie makes Glenn dig deep into his feelings and open up about what he really feels for her. In that way, she has become my favorite heroine.

WHITE LACE AND PROMISES:
I liked the overall plot of the story, though it sounds like something I've read before. The main female protagonist, Maggie, got on my nerves throughout the novel. She seemed...unlikeable to me, but that is just my opinion. This is the first Debbie Macomber novel that I have read so I am sure not all of her characters will annoy me this much. Marrying someone after not seeing them for twelve-to thirteen years may seem inviting to some people, though it may just happen in novels.

JURY OF HIS PEERS:
The main protagonist of this novel I liked a whole lot better than the first one. Just wanted to start with that. I liked the plot a whole lot more, though, but I think that author wanted to end the story so she wrapped up the story a little too soon. I would have liked to see more of the jury part and the death threat part of the story a lot more. The author kind of just pointed at it but at the core, it was a romance novel.

So overall, I gave this book of these two novels three stars.

I’m exhausted from pushing through to read the entire first story - White Lace & Promises. I cannot hold onto this book a minute longer to ensure Jury of His Peers.

The first few chapters of White Lace piqued my interest, but soon I grew weary of the constant emotional battle this couple was putting one another through. The actions were that of a couple of teenagers rather than successful adults who were reunited at their friend’s wedding after growing up together as kids/teenagers.

I only kept reading so I’d know how the story ended and honestly, it wasn’t worth my time to find out.

Sorry to the author whose many other titles I’ve enjoyed - this one has me switching gears to read a more engaging story from a different author.

3.5 rounding down to 3 because of the 2nd story. The first story was well thought out, the plot had enough time to develop even if the relationship was too quick....but that was part of the plot so it was totally believable.

The.second.story. I literally was grumbling under my breath the entire time...the plot jumped HUGE gaps in terms of character development, the female character was almost too stupid to be believable and the characters chemistry literally made no sense in it's development.

Both stories are very Hallmark...the first one is the story that you roll your eyes at because it's cliche and corny but still cute...the second story was just obsurd and a waste of my time.

These stories annoyed me. The first one was better than the second, but in both the leading ladies were childish and annoying. The second story, it seemed as if the author lost focus and would just throw things in out of nowhere. Also, the leading girl was so whiny and moody. We all are sometimes, but not as much as this girl. The storyline about the mistrial was ridiculous, too. None of that would happen.

I liked the theme of the two stories of people reconnecting and the complexities of working through differences. However, I had a hard time liking the characters, felt the character development was too fast, and part of that was getting past the writing felt very conventional and unrelatable. Even the second woman who was portrayed as a contrarian, ended up having far more traditional views and fawning over this man which I would find uncharacteristic. it was hard to read at some points.

Two short novels. I enjoyed this first one the best -- the story of Maggie and Glen who reconnect at a friend's wedding. They elope and than realize that their impulse may have been a rash decision. In the second story, Caroline and Ted meet once again when both are selected for a jury. Typical Debbie's style, a quick read.

I love Debbie Macomber but I didn't love this one....two stories in one book. White lace and promises just a little too over dramatic for me.

Jury of His Peers was actually good...hence I gave the book 3 stars. Nice story moved along fairly well and clean. Very predictable which takes a bit away from it but overall...nice quick read.

While the story was good, it became frustrating that they just wouldn't TALK to each other to avoid a ton of heartache.
