Conflicted
Not quite sure I fully get the cliffhanger to this volume. Although Edward and Thea are finally making strides in the right direction, and appeared to actually be communicating rather than continuously holding back and/or playing games, it all falls apart in a heartbeat. I mean I understand why Ed immediately reacted as he did, but I didn't get why the allegedly new and improved version didn't stop to hear Thea's explanation when she attempted to offer it. Under the circumstances you'd think he'd have learned from experience.
The first two storylines didn't throw me off as often as this one seems to be doing. As with the past two, both primary characters are complicated, but not necessarily that much more so. I hope that the next, and final, volume clears things up satisfactorily reasonably early on because I haven't been disappointed yet and don't want to be so now.
On a review unrelated note, I previously commented on an earlier review about how editing issues (correct words, pronouns, tenses, undeleted words after obvious sentence revisions, etc.) were interfering somewhat with my enjoyment in reading this series. I know the series was completed before I even began reading it, but it would really be great if, prior to publication, this concern could be taken into consideration for future books. I know from reading reviews (of other authors' books) that I'm not the only supercritical reader relative to such problems and they, honestly, do impair reading enjoyment when you have to keep stopping to read back a sentence. Don't know if there's a great call for it, but maybe I should start thinking about a career change.
