I found this book discounted on Amazon via Bookbub; this is my honest review.
-Practical exercises throughout the book.
-Annexes with helpers that apply to any situation.
-It's all about why, when, how, etc.
-Divided in chapters for different situations such as downsizing for health, end of relationship, empty nesting, etc. The steps are the same for all: The task ahead, the logistics, the emotions, what's on your mind. your next steps. In this part of the book, I thought most of the chapters resembled themselves and most of the emotions too, when you think about it, it's no wonder.
-Something that came up that I really, really liked is that if you're moving elsewhere , now is the time to "recreate your home space and lifestyle. Plan what type of energy you'll want to feel in each room ... energized, relaxed, inspired - it's your choice". This will also help you choosing what to keep and what to leave behind.

Nothing New

Chose this book because it touted great insite with what to do with photos. It barely touched on the subject.

A couple good tips but nothing too new and the author was repetitive, like she strung together a bunch of blogs posts and lectures and called it a book

I had heard about books that could be perfectly summarised in one chapter but go on and on to fill the right number of pages. I finally know what people mean by that - Downsizing would be the perfect 1500-word article, but is instead a mediocre book.

The 5-step method with which the book starts sounds useful and I am definitely going to put it into practice when downsizing my belongings. Instead of focusing on what we want to let go of, I am going to focus on what we want to keep - this was the biggest lesson I took from the book.

However, the rest of the book is too repetitive. I get the idea of addressing the various situations in which the reader may be, but the execution is too long-winded.

I listened to Downsizing as an audiobook and I did not have access to the .pdf material that usually comes with it due to getting it from my library. This had an impact on how I experienced and now review the book.

I still recommend this book but only if:

1) you are already sold on the idea of downsizing and are only looking for a practical method to do it, and,

2) you have access to the physical version of the book from your library, so that you can read only what suits you and then return it, or do not mind spending money (and raw resources) on a book that you are only going to skim through...

Good section on downswing after a death or a elderly transition. Wish I’d read this before I had to do both.
