Winter is drawing closer while Slate and Shale have become the undisputed rulers of the Scourge. The first clutch has hatched, and their forces have been reinvigorated for a conflict with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, their entry into the realm of Somnium hasn’t come without its costs.
Far to the east, the Lord of Light’s mortal enemy, the Vallyr, have learned of their budding settlement. In an effort to wipe them out once and for all, Mors dal Ventrix, Patriarch of the Vallyrian Collective has summoned his army and sent them west. While the Scourge leadership is on the warpath, things aren’t so easy in their capitol city of Bastion. The Cult of the Leech saboteurs plague the city, a strange Prophet claiming to be from the Lord of Light has arrived, and the Scourge must struggle to recruit enough warriors to fend off the much larger Vallyrian forces.
In book two of the Scourge Wars, Slate must accomplish one thing: adapt or die.

First off, the only reason this book isn't a five star ranking (and I mean the ONLY reason) is because of a few editing issues. Incomplete words and repeated sentences. Other than that, this is shaping up to be a bada$$ series. I'd love to see more cunning and tactics by the Scourge in future engagements but they are already a highly formidable species. Some of the best original "monster" species in the genre. Good work. Cant wait for book three.
I thoroughly enjoyed the character development in this book, we got to see a whole new side of the supporting characters. Especially Sumnu. He stands out from the others, in the he brings light into a lot of darkness sorrounding slate, the MC. Also Bastions' snarkiness was an absolute delight.
It leaves me wanting for more. Was very excited to see the sequel up so fast. While I did see some editing errors for me it did nothing to take away from the quality story in this book. Highly reccomend!
This books focuses a bit more on the mechanics behind controlling a territory, support characters, and third it goes into evolution. It is very different than the first book, because this one focuses on everything else. Which is good to see a different side of the MC and how analytical he is with his moves. There is very strong potential for a sequel here, and I love how the author is making improvements. There are a few reviews that focus too much into editing which doesn’t bother me. I usually highlight and report to qualify issue then Amazon contacts the author. Once that is complete the book is updated and the errors disappear.
The first book was pretty interesting. This one already has the characters established and is the start of a war. The writing was fine and fairly easy to read. What I didn't like was I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's starting to remind me of some of Grosse's work in this case where many of the characters are under some sort of mental influence. A bit if horror with some good battles. Score: 7.5 out of 10
I like the evolution of all his leadership team, one thing that I think could use some work and would add more chapters would be more focus on the scourge children and their overall personality’s (or lack there of) not once did any of his children say or do anything of note, he didn’t really talk to’em so that kinda makes them just look like drones and fodder, while I think you could get more personal with them as individuals serving in the scourge army, their beliefs, thoughts, relationships, etc. love the book overall though.
I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.
So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
This one was certainly a fun read but it wasn’t as attention grabbing as the first one. Although the characters and action are well written, my speed reading picked up in parts where I just wanted them to skip the back and forth and go straight to business. Still, it wasn’t so bad that I was skipping pages and the lead up to book two is worthwhile. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Please share with all Gamelit Authors. This story of a guy getting selected to lead a faction in a gods game is actually unique. Can’t wait for the next book.
Another excellent book in the series. Definitely not just yet another reskinned dungeons and dragons. Well written and entertaining, and a little disturbing.
Just like the Main character this writer seems to be evolving and leveling up this story gets better the more your read while not one of my favorites it is still Damm good I would say needs more harem and more sex other than that not bad at all
Great story from an interesting Light side viewpoint
I love the story and characters, not a fan of some of the errors but the story keeps me drawn in. I am enjoying the Lord of Light and the Scourge being seen as her servants.
I’m loving the escalation! The various classes seem to be increasingly specialized, and this honestly feels like a game world I would enjoy playing/living in!
