Foley and Rose #1

Vengeance List

Rate this book
At police headquarters in steamy, tropical Darwin, a cop is brutally slain - right under the noses of his colleagues. The equally savage murder of select members of Darwin's legal fraternity follows, leaving investigating officers completely baffled.

Is there a serial killer at large, and what connects the victims? These are the questions lead homicide investigator Russell Foley struggles with, while facing his own personal demons brought about by a failed marriage and the disintegration of his relationship with his best friend.

Meanwhile, Sam Rose - private investigator, former police detective and one-time best friend of Russell Foley - is hired to covertly investigate the killings. But after his best friend is murdered and his newfound love kidnapped, Sam has to race against time to not only save his own life, but the life of the woman he loves.

Can Russell and Sam put their past differences aside, and catch the killer before he claims another victim?

Not the best

I really enjoy murder mysteries, but not sure about this one. Neither of the main characters were particularly likable. Don't get me started on the unrealistic female character. A total fantasy. I actually laughed out loud almost every time the author described her, especially (spoiler alert) when she comes to the door in her nightie. Absolutely no woman, especially if she's single, wears that to bed, let alone answers the door like that. The story line was okay. I hope the author can create better female characters in the future.

I almost gave up early on, even with a dramatic, shocking and gory murder to start the book. That didn’t both me, but then the writing dragged as the author seemed to want to develop ever character right away rather than imbed some of that information as the story progressed. However I hung on and I am glad I did!! Suddenly the story picked up and became a fast paced thriller. I will definitely try the next installment of this series.

Dick & Cop

Detective Rose and Police Foley deal with a string of murders in Darwin (NT). Author Gregor has started a series focused on these two, deftly filling in their characters with backstory and competition as the reader begins to see the hot and humid port capitol. A bit gory at times, crime scenes are cringe worthy. The villain proves to be worthy of that mantle. An excellent read.

As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.

Very entertaining.
4.5* A new author to me. An interesting storyline. I enjoyed the introduction to the main characters, giving some background to their careers and their relationship, although It felt a little long winded to begin with so I skimmed through the mundane bits...just enough to get me to the main plot. An exciting read it turned out to be, gritty and tense with some great casting. An Irish character gave me a welcome giggle to an otherwise toe curling frantic hunt for a murderer on the lose. A nail biting satisfying ending. I'll be reading more by this author.

Intense!

For those who like crime thrillers you will love this one. A series of murders take place in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The police are baffled and have no leads. Sam Rose, former police detective turned private investigator, is hired from outside the force to find the killer. Sam accepts partly out of curiosity and mostly for the money, but it becomes personal when he discovers that he is on the killer’s list.

This started off well with a gruesome and inexplicable crime and some interesting characters but then became a bit cliched with the usual cat and mouse storyline - killer lures hero into his trap only to be rescued by rival/old friend. Minor characters used as pawns and killer becomes increasingly unbelievable in his abilities and insanity.
I have the second in the series on my Kindle but not sure I’ll rush to read it.

At the police headquarters in Darwin, a policeman is killed. But this will only be the first of potentially six killings on the murderer's list. Can DI Foley or his ex-partner P.I. Samuel Rose discover the killer and stop them before all are dead.
An entertaining and well-written modern crime story. A good start to the series.

Quite an interesting approach for a murder investigation.
Also it had a very nice little sex scene about half way, that might proceed in future episodes.
Fairly fresh and a fairly quick read, thankfully not too many 'explanations', new chapters assume what we more-or-less expect, which is refreshing.

WHEW! BLOOD, GUTS-N-GORE. I REALLY ENJOYED, I WOULD’VE READ THIS IN ONE SITTING BUT SLEEP GOT IN THE MY WAY. THE STORYLINE AND CHARACTERS WERE GREAT THIS WOULD MAKE A GOOD MOVIE. I LOVED THE THOMAS HERRON SERIES AND THOUGHT THIS WAS ON THE SAME LEVEL A REALLY DEMENTED KILLER, HELD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. ;D

A killer is targeting the criminal justice community. A former cop turned P.I. must mend fences with his former partner, the lead police investigator, to stop a killer both determined and diabolical.

This is a terrific read. Fast paced it held my interest. The lead cop's domestic issues were kind of a drag but otherwise a great plot well executed.

I read to Chapter Five on "Vengeance List" and then I went to the last chapter. The story was so slow-paced that I got bored reading it. The writing was excellent and the plot was good but the book could have been finished in about a quarter of the chapters written. I don't think I will be reading Gary Gregor's stories again.

I purchased this book because of the amazing reviews on Amazon and oh boy, they were all right. Such a good book
with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. I couldn't put this down until I ended. Can't wait for book two!

Great story. Murder most foul

This story had me sweating just from the description of tropical Darwin's climate ... As we moved through the story my heartbeat became greater than the temperature. Looking forward to the next book.

Killer out for revenge.

A killer, after serving time for murder, is out to kill all who were responsible for his prison time. After the third or even second murder I would have thought they would review all cases to find a link. But, it's a story.

A decent read

A pleasurable read, no more no less. A plot that’s been recycled endlessly in print and film, characters that you’ll recognize quickly that possess little depth, and a love interest to boot. Enough to keep my attention, but not much else.

3-1/2 stars. The basic plot has been done many times before. The characters are pretty strong. A lot of the writing is overdone. Making a point with too much description. The dialogue is okay, not great. Not enough cop humor.

Action induced

This murder mystery thriller had me at the edge of my seat wondering who could it be murdering these people. It was sad to read about Larry as he was so close to Rose and the police force. It was great at the end.

Great read!

Excellent police procedural with old time dialogue and romance thrown in for good measure. Suspenseful even when you think you are anticipating the overall ending.

I liked this book but not exactly a page turner. I was able to figure out quite easily what was going to happen next. Not as much mystery as I like.
