We have watched "Made in China" before reading the book. I know for a bookworm like us the ritual is book first then Adaption (movie/series). You may not believe that's the only reason we haven't watched Game of throne. The only exception is Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Coming. Back to MIC, here book was released after the movie so even if we wanted we had to wait for the book to release. So we went ahead. Before we move ahead I would like to congratulate Parinda Joshi for converting her book in the movie especially in India where movies are adapted from everywhere except books.

The book covers the story of Raghu who was of never die attitude. The entrepreneurship was flowing in his blood, even after multiple failed ideas, he dreamed of one successful click. He got his chance when he went to China, during that time he met a true inspirational angel investor. He came back to India with an idea, but his idea required an expert. That where Doctor Vardhi came into the story and rest is a funny journey to the last page. Read the book to know more.

What we saw lacking in the movie was covered in the book. My thirst to know more about Raghu was satisfied.

The writing style was simple. I found the flow of the story sluggish at places. The character of Raghu took a major platform then comes Vardhi & Radhu's wife. A combination of black humor and reality have created a good entertainment.

I will give 4/5 to "Made in China".

This book was something. It honestly has left me with so many confusing thoughts and contradicting views and I am going to try and lay all of them out in the simplest way possible. This book was good but it left me unsatisfied. Instead of focusing on the plot, the author focused more on the main character. The plot had so much scope, it was amazing and so many could have been done with it. But instead the author chose to focus on how the character was feeling which was a little boring but got down right tiring by the end. I would have wanted to know more about how the venture started, the difficulties that were faced; I definitely would have enjoyed the book more if the author had delved deeper into details of the plot. So many things could have been done! This book could have been hilarious. Now onto the characters, I really liked them in the start but Raghu got annoying and childish by the end. The author’s characterisation is very strong and very descriptive, I enjoyed it. The writing style is also pretty simple, anybody could pick the book up and enjoy the story. The narration I felt was a little weak but it kept the story entertaining. The first half of the book was great and kept me going, the second part however was not as strong. Despite the flaws, the enjoyed this book so much and finished it in two sittings. Recommended for readers who are looking for a light, funny and entertaining read.

Made in China by Parinda Joshi is a comical yet greatly captivating novel.

Raghu Mehta is a funny character with the mindset of a middle class man wanting to make it big in the society. He desperately tries his hands in several businesses to upgrade his living but in vain. He finds a ray of hope during his visit to China hunting business offers. However, he is caught off guard when he gets pulled into the bewitching black market trade found in the back streets of China. Will this be a jackpot to him and his family? Will he ditch his morals for minting money? Find out more in this hilarious book.

I liked the author's simple yet impactful narration paying heed to teeny details. The portrayal of Raghu and his family in the story is very much relatable making it an engaging read. Overall, this is a beautiful story of a husband, father and an entrepreneur trying to prove himself to the world and his dear ones. Recommended 👍

Book- Made in China
Author- Parinda Joshi @parindajoshi
Publisher- @harpercollinsin
Pages- 312

Parinda Joshi is a budding screenwriter, a lover of modern poetry, fitness enthusiast, an avid traveler and photographer and a humor junkie. She is the author of two novels, Live From London and Powerplay. Made in China is her third novel. It has been adapted for a motion picture.

First of all lets talk about the cover. The cover is great which gives you an idea of upcoming comedy in the book. And the title of the book is appropriate.
.
The plot of the story is a perfect blend of comedy and sometimes grief. Made in China is a journey of a struggling middle class man struggling to establish a business. The protagonist Raghu Mehta is a desperate businessman. His business of handicraft imports has suddenly collapsed. His close friend advices him to go to China and start a new business. Raghu hesitates beforehand and later agrees to move to China with a glimmer of hope. In China he faces various difficulties being new in other land. Raghu aslo gets sucked into black- market trade in the back alleys of Beijing.
Will he successful or get caught? Find out by reading the book. ✨
The places of China are so well explained that one can easily visualize while reading. And even the food items are explained so well. The book has raised few topics which are not talked about easily but in descent way. Language of the book is easy. Characters are well portrayed. I would definitely recommend reading the book before watching the movie. .
.
Happy Reading💙

About the book :

A gujju businessman from Surat travels all the way to China to achieve great success in business but little did he know that he would get stuck in the black market of China. Being a gujju, I was able to relate to the story. It is true that we gujjus are so business minded. 😛 The story revolves Around Raghu. Even after trying Everything that he can, his business was not running smoothly and when he got an oppertunity to visit China, he grabbed it because of the constant pressure from his family and to achieve great success. This visit was going to change his life. After going through every struggle, Raghu Now had the success formula. But will that formula work on his business? It wasn't easy for him, the struggle continues, how will Raghu implement his business strategies and will that work ?

Review :

I haven't watched this movie yet as I wanted to read the book first. It was an entertaining and light read. The characters were very well developed and the author has described every scene in detail. Recommending this book to everyone. ❤

An entrepreneurial journey of a completely devastated man who has the zeal to make it big. The book narrates how the protagonist, Raghu, overcomes from the collapsed handicraft business and goes to China in search of a new and better opportunity. But Raghu gets stuck in more of a black market trade in the back alleys of Beijing. The book shows how a God-fearing, middle class, vegetarian crosses the hurdles for a glimmer of hope.
The book is mostly based in Surat. The locations and circumstances are very well narrated in the book and enhances the reader's imagination while reading. Additionally, the elaborated characters and their back stories also adds to the clarity. The language used simple and makes a flow by giving Gujarati touch. The characters such as Dr Vardhi, Rukmani, Devraj, Tanmay adds to the humour. The book being darkly comical closely touches the reality as well. Although the concept being nice and new the story jumps at a few places which is a kind of flaw.
Otherwise the book is a true entertainer and is recommended to be read after a hectic or stressful day.

Made in China the title itself is very catchy and now it is movie too so for me it is necessary to read book first before going for movie.
What is best part of this book its story, plot and it's characterization, each tiny detail of characters are well elaborated so you can imagine like you are watching a movie.writing style of author is indeed commendable. The way she describes a Gujarati family and their business mindset is very intresting.
Raghu our main protagonist wants to become rich anyhow and wants to give his family a settled life. His journey to China gives him hope and an amazing idea which turned his life. So now you have to read this book to know more about it.
After 150 pages I felt like story is some dragging or repetitive something ,I can loose my interest many times and I had to push myself to finish this book so it could be much better.
Overall a nice entertaining read

I picked up this book as I wanted to read it before watching the movie. I found it had really good content and a message that one needs to be very careful and never be deceived by looks. A good story, well developed characters apt title that goes well with the story and a supporting cover.

What I liked?
The plus points are the unique storyline, well researched plot.
The fonts are big and makes the reading easy.
The one liners of comedy are good.

What I didn't like?
I felt the narration was slow paced and dragging at some places.
The climax was very obvious and predictable after the first few chapters.

My Verdict
Overall a good one time read.

Made in China has a plot which is funny enough to lighten up your mood and a message which is very important for middle class people. Dreams and aspirations could be bigger but it is really important to manage things in a profound way. This book has all taste in it. I enjoyed reading it although at some point it bores you but at the end you would be asking for more. I honestly did not liked the cover, the reason is I do not like when a novel gets the cover of the movie based on it. Condition of the book is great.

The plot of "Made in China" is amusing. Raghu Mehta a desperate businessman who wants a stable and flourishing business unexpectedly fails at his every attempt to a successful life. While his friends and family all seem to be flourishing in there respective businesses. He eventually looses trust and respect of his wife for his failed efforts. Meanwhile his close friend Dev takes him to China for a new consumer goods business offers, so that he could get some handful of good offers . But instead Raghu gets stuck in the black-market trade in back alleys of Beijing. Raghu a simple minded middle class soul ,horror striked him when met with these unexpected circumstances . But what will be Raghu's next step? Will he indulge himself in the black market to gain success or will he stick to his principles ? Money can make human morals weak, could Raghu preclude himself before something bad happens?

The whole plot of "Made In China" was very engaging and interesting. It had a bit of humour in every page of it . The author tried to highlight a lot a facts and problems through small small incidents in the book which was very amusing to read . Also Raghu Mehta's journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur was thrilling. "Don't strip the stripes from the scenery: Save the Tiger" . Though the whole book was not all about saving tigers but it was very well highlighted how tigers body parts are a prime commodity in the black markets. Killing tigers are ban in eyes of the law but underneath that eyes killing tigers are still going on . Sometimes in this process the criminal escapes and the innocents gets punished .
The writing style of the book was appealing . The messages conveyed through was deep . As a whole this book is worth a read .

I was just scrolling through the books on amazon and I came across this book and I realised that recent movie “Made in China” was made from this and as usual I wanted to read the book first. And I am glad that I got chance and picked this up first. I will briefly summarise the blurb as many of you are reading and watching movie. The protagonist of the story is Raghu Mehta. He is the business man and his handicraft business collapsed due to some reasons unexpectedly. His life changed during his trip to China. He got good business offers and new business skills over there but the point is is that a really good business or a black market trade? Does morale of Raghu will let him continue this? Read the book to unfold further plot.
First of all I loved this book as upto certain extent it is based in Surat city and it is my city definitely. The other thing is the protagonist is based on Gujarati character so I could relate so many things so it was fun to read about it. I loved the plot as it’s unique definitely. I have come across such different plot after a long time. I loved the narration style of the author. Author has done good use of vocabulary and language. I loved those little business incidents or lessons as being a gujarati, I can totally understand and relate many little facts. The book has been filled with lots of amazing twists and turns. Overall I really enjoyed reading it and going for the movie for sure. Recommended from my side.

📓🤷✌️
Why read this book?
If you want to enjoy a book that has middle-class family chaska(drama) full of dark comedy then you should go for this!! Made in China the title itself is very eye-catching and it's a movie too!
📓🙇😵
The story is about a Gujarati businessman, Raghu Mehta who comes from a business background yet his handicraft imports business has unexpectedly collapsed. His wife thinks he is a loser and so does the society. Meanwhile, his closest friends and family all seem to be living luxurious lives with flourishing business. Being under such circumstances, Raghu too wants to be rich and as many of the younger generation, dreams to give his family a settled life. So he flies from Surat down to China to opt for a new consumer goods business which inturn gives him a glimpse of hope as he finally gets to taste success. But tables turn and Raghu gets sucked into the black-market trade. Everything about this "New opportunity to Finally be Successful" goes against his god-fearing, vegetarian, middle-class mindset (taboos set by his cultured society) - can he go against his cultural ethics inorder to obtain success?
📓🙆👌
Darkly comical, Made in China is an emotional, thrilling entrepreneurial journey of a man willing to do anything he can to succeed after facing tons of failures. Every middle class dream, every man's aspirations, every woman's hope... All mixed into a tale that warms our heart and provides some comical relief too! The best thing about this book is the author's narration. Each tiny detail of characters, plots, minute business details all are elaborated well enough to make you experience the story as if it's a movie. I appreciate author's efforts in research towards enterprise and little detailing that provides a bit of business knowledge to the readers.
🤗🤗
The language was at a standard level. At rare times, the author's attempt to give a comic touch made it boring. But at the end this book is quite an entertainer as well as an emotional drama. No wonder it's being made into a motion picture! It enjoyed reading this amazing read...

Made in China by Parinda Joshi is a comical yet good gripping novel.

Raghu Mehta is an interesting character with the attitude of a white-collar class man needing to become famous in the general public. He urgently attempts his hands in a few organizations to overhaul his living yet futile. He finds a beam of expectation during his visit to China chasing business offers. Be that as it may, he is found napping when he gets manoeuvred into the beguiling bootleg market exchange found the back boulevards of China. Will, he gets the success at the end or just be like other 90% attempting people if you want to know read the book.

There were some places where I lost my interest because of the repetitive actions. After 150 pages I had to push myself to finish this book so it could be much better. Rather than concentrating on the plot, the author concentrated more on the principle character. The plot had so a lot of scops, it was astonishing thus many could have been finished with it. In any case, rather the creator decided to concentrate on how the character was feeling which was a bit of exhausting yet got downright tiring by the end. I would have needed to find out about how the endeavour began, the challenges that were confronted; I certainly would have appreciated the book more if the writer had dug further into subtleties of the plot. Such huge numbers of things could have been finished! This book could have been silly. Presently onto the characters, I truly loved them in the beginning yet Raghu got irritating and immature by the end.

The language used simple and makes a flow by giving Gujarati touch. So much like the character of Dr Vardhi with his sense of humour and actions. The book is darkly comical closely touches the reality as well.
Otherwise, the book is a true light read and is recommended to read after a hectic day.

Made In China by Parinda Joshi is about Raghu Mehta, who has hundreds of ideas in his head but is a failed businessman at the end. He comes from a middle-class family and eventually starts working at his father's shop but it's going downhill too and he has absolutely no idea how is he going to support his family until one day he gets a chance to visit China. And after that visit, his life took a different turn.

The story has a different plot and I really enjoyed reading it. Raghu's trip to China, his constant turmoil, his conversations with his wife/kids were hilarious, to be honest then the lies and the plotting and planning to make his business work out was really interesting to witness.

We don't generally come across books that discuss male problems and this book talked about Erectile Dysfunction and how people are still ashamed to talk about it and see a doctor. I think it was a great idea to introduce this into the story, not as a side plot but the main plot.

Now, I would have loved the book if the author had explored those subplots about his sons. The story was strongly single character-driven which made me unable to connect with other characters. Like the character of Dr. Vardhi was really strong and interesting but it wasn't explored much. Similarly, Tanmay was introduced but then nothing happened with his character too. His wife, Rukmani had no significant part apart from cribbing and shouting (mostly). And there were some loose ends/plot holes in the story too which left me with questions.

Nonetheless, It was a fun ride and I was eager to see what Raghu's next step would be, how and will he be successful. So if you are looking for something light and different, go for this book.

💥
Made in china is a hilarious take on a struggling Gujrati businessman’s journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
It delievers a comical, soul-stirring & rollercoaster entrepreneurial
journey of a simple but ambitious man Raghu and his darling wife Rukmani.
🌞
This is one story that appeals for its sheer relativity and writing style. Having been with many gujratis I could relate the mind set of the people in the western part of India, I can understand where Raghu comes from and indeed where he is going. Gujratis are pretty much wolves when it comes to business. Specially when the story is based out of Surat & Ahmedabad.
I saw the movie as well. It was good but not exact copy on the book. That's the reason why I keep saying that one should always read the book first. It helps more clearly to connect the dots.
The book is a roller coaster worth riding. Underneath is an emotional idea of "India ka jugaad".

Raghu Mehta's handicraft imports business comes to halt unexpectedly. He is left with no choice. His cash, all his savings dries out. Whereas, his wife thinks that he is a loser, all his family members and other people thinks he is nothing for good. Every business he starts he suffers loss. His friend takes him to China and then begins his real journey.

Dev, his friend takes him to China to tie Raghu in some business but Raghu's Destiny seems to be different this time. Raghu gets caught into black market trade.

How is Raghu's journey in China ? Then, how he ended up in black market trade and which black market trade ? All answers in Book!

.

The book is full of humour and There is no dull moment at any point which I loved the most.

Funny statements used in book will make you laugh.

Author had pointed about the middle class man who dreams to become big and complete his dreams, his struggle and his hardships are portrayed well in the book.

We all human beings always wants to achieve something big in life, author had pretty explained that mindset of human beings, which I found interesting.

Journey of a middle class man to an entrepreneur is narrated well.

Book makes you turn pages as you go on reading.

Entrepreneurial journey of Raghu is worth reading. Raghu and his struggle throughout the book is quite thrilling in nature.

Darkly comical, it will make you laugh, even will make you learn important lessons.

I always prefer book rather than movie, this book will give a real feel than movie

Title, cover all is apt.

Though it says Made in China, it's a hundred percent Made in India book.

MADE IN CHINA - one word to describe this book is "eye-opening"

The book is a satire on the society's way of looking at men's problem. The shyness attached with it, to express publicly or visit a doctor regarding the problem. If a couple doesn't have a child after few years of marriage, people starts questioning the masculinity of a man and sarcastically calls him impotent behind his back. The book is an eye-opening to look at the men's problem same way as any other. .

The book opens with Raghu Mehta, a local businessman from Surat dreaming about luxurious life completely different from his current financial situation. After a collapse in his family business, Raghu along with his friend visits China to attend the annual trade show. Raghu finds nothing important in China until his last day of trip when he met Hao Li accidentally.

Hao Li has introduced Raghu to a magic soup that cures men's problem. Raghu's entrepreneur mind enlightened. He, along with a doctor and other two associates starts selling it in Surat. In no time the soup business was a hit. The story takes a twist when the main ingredient of the soup is revealed in the newspaper.

The only thing which I didn't like about the plot of the book was the hidden secret which mess up life of the main character. The thing which happens in almost every bollywood movies and was predictable.

Parinda Joshi has written a mind blowing story with her imagination and creativity, addressing one of the biggest issue in a country where hardly anyone talks about it. The book is a complete entertainment reading an extraordinary journey of a Raghu Mehta.

‘A business that was my baby, a business that finally made me taste the sweet joy of success, has died a premature death, he wanted to shout. Am I not even to allowed to mourn?’

‘That thing you do when you’re after something? Your eyes are sharp as a hawk. Your mind focused. The nights go by without a crease on the bedsheet because you were somewhere else, slogging. Don’t be fooled by the new plastic in my wallet. Don’t be fooled by the new car or the restaurants I now frequent. Behind everything, there’s a plodding, struggle, sacrifice. And it still continues. I’m aware that it’s a miracle I’m here today. But don’t ever call it luck.’

Raghu Mehta is a desperate man. His handicraft imports business has unexpectedly collapsed and cash is drying out quickly, his wife thinks he is a loser. Society considers him irrelevant. Meanwhile, his closest friends, the family has all seen to be running a flourishing business as well as living luxurious lives in Surat. The Diamond capital of India.

A trip to China to scout for a new consumer goods business offers a glimmer of hope but Raghu instead gets sucked into the Black- Market trade in the back alleys of Beijing.

Everything about this new opportunity goes against his God – Fearing, vegetarian, middle- class mindset, can he quash his natural instincts to make a success of it?

The plot is funny but describing the deep hidden emotions and meaning of real life. I enjoyed reading this book. However, it can contradict the belief in the readers sometimes.

Book- Made in China
Author- Parinda Joshi @parindajoshi
Publisher- @harpercollinsin

Centrally, the book revolves around Raghu Mehta, the protagonist of the plot who is unexpectedly a witty businessman and yet aspires to overcome his burden of loss and failure while his other family members are living an affluent life in Surat. His handicraft import business is on the verge of collapsing making him lose everything in the eyes of his family and his immediate society considers him to be cynically irrelevant. But China acts as a ray of hope with the plethora of darkness in its consumption. The plot takes a significant turn through the Chinese domain, thereby adding attributes to the book specifically especially when Raghu is knaive in this aspect.

My Take: I found the book to be intriguing yet dark in its entirety as despite being witty and strong in entrepreneurship, the market is surprising enough for the ones who want to whole heartedly establish something in this cut throat competition. But China did act as a turning point in the life of Raghu which could only be explored intricately while going through the book.

Critique: The book is extraordinarily lucid and we'll edited but still it has minute tints of exaggeration at a few places. The book is recommended for the beginners as the plot is simple but the narration is exuberant.

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟.8/5

P S. This book is a major motion movie by Rajkumar Rao too! All in all, reading and then watching is not that bad :p

Made in China charted the rags to riches tale of Raghu Mehta, a handicraft businessman whose trade is on the verge of collapsing.A trip to China along with his self-appointed saviour friend Dev sets everything in motion.Instead of bagging a lucrative business deal, he ends up struck in the black market of Beijing. What follows thereafter is a Capricious adventure full of twists and turns, shocking revealations and unanticipated pitfalls which alters the life of Raghu, his family, Dr. Vardhi and many others.
🚴
The narration is engaging since the very start. The story moves at a fast pace without any interruptions. The plotline is character driven, moves around the central protagonist.Characters are well-developed and relatable. The nuances of plain folks life captured in the prose will surely strike the reader. The author deftly portrayed the trials and tribulations of a middle class man, the constant grind of demands and desires that constantly chase him throughout his life and many a times his dreams die a slow death. Only those with undying spirit and strong ambition survives the thunderstorms of life and stands out in the crowd. The author touched on the topics like depression, alienation, jealousy and betrayal. She subtly addressed the issue of male physical insecurities which a man mostly refuse to admit.
But there are many loose strings in the plot which bothered me.One could foresee the climax taking shape. It could have ended in a different, better way.
:
I would recommend the book to fiction lovers who has appetite for black humour.

Raghu Mehta is a desperate man. His handicraft imports business has unexpectedly collapsed and cash is drying out quickly, his wife thinks he is a loser and society considers him irrelevant. Meanwhile, his closest friends and family all seem to be running flourishing businesses and living luxurious lives in Surat, the diamond capital of India. A trip to China to scout for a new consumer goods business offers a glimmer of hope. But Raghu instead gets sucked into the black-market trade in the back alleys of Beijing. Everything about this new opportunity goes against his god-fearing, vegetarian, middle-class mindset - can he quash his natural instincts to make a success of it?

Handicrafts commonly refer to handmade crafts. Generally skilled people create different types of items with paper, wood, clay, shells, stones, metals, etc. And as the name refers handicrafts items are absolutely handmade items without the use of any type of machines.
Handicrafts is very important because it represents our culture and traditions. It promotes the heritage of a country through the usage of indigenous materials and it preserves traditional knowledge and talents.

Coming to the book "Made in China", Raghu Mehta who had engaged himself in Handicraft import business fails to see it's growth.
He notices his close friends and family nourishing in their respective business in Surat.
He is loser according to his wife and Society thinks him irrelevant but in reality he is desperate man.
He sense a hope from trip to China but he gets stuck in black Market trade.
Can he preserve his ideologies?
Can he prove himself?( if not for society but at least for his wife )
What fate awaits him?

The language is easy to understand.
When we have a look at the cover no doubt reader can understand that the book has been made into a movie.
Even though we have watched the movie, readers can enjoy this read.
There is a humor, drama, failure, struggle, middle-class life and much more.
Grab this book to experience Darkly comical, soul-stirring and thrilling Entrepreneurial journey of a man willing to do anything he can to make it to big.

So I have completed reading this book called Made in China by Parinda Joshi and I'm impressed. The book is about the protagonist Raghu who is a very comman man from Surat striving for an opportunity to prove himself and to rise the standards of his life. Raghu is someone who implies unique ideas into reality and keeps trying. He stumbles on a great opportunity to achieve what he wanted. Rukmani, his wife wanted them to live a luxurious life and is happy when Raghu starts a new business and there dreams come true. But is Raghu doing the business which everyone thinks he does? Or there is something dark bringing in the money? What if it was known only to Raghu what he does? This tale is super interesting and trust me it provides huge valuable cognisance. The book describes the random judgements thrown on someone for their choices, the betrayal of a friend due to envy, how people feel ashamed of speaking for self due to the mere accusation thrown at them by the society, how one's own people gets dejected on them by trusting a third person, how the picture of one portrayed by the public plays a major role in one's life, how incredibly vast the world is and much more. I really would appreciate the author in bringing out a subtle topic in a very impressive way. I felt myself involved in the plot and felt so much throughout the journey of Raghu. The characters made justice and I had this feeling of content when the last page was turned around. On the whole a worthy read it is.

This is the story about Raghu , a Gujarati Businessman who fails miserably in any new venture he starts. With his handicraft business failing, he is upset and his friend Dev, takes him on a trip to China to look out for new opportunities. What happens after that is that forms the rest of the story.
This book is a quick read where you can relate to people we see around, those wanting to succeed in their business and come up in the society. And then there are people who would do anything to attain a good social standing. Also there are people who are friends but can’t stand to see their friends getting richer / popular than they are and would go to any heights to bring them down!
Having been in China for a few years, I was able to visualize the feelings that Raghu had when he visited China and also the communication problems he faced.
Some of the characters could have been given more space in the storyline like Raghu’s kids , his wife, even Dev. Some of the situations did not add up like what the original ingredient of the ‘magic soup’ is and how Dr.Vardhi added the secret ingredients to it. Some of the places felt a bit dragged.
The cover is good and goes with the title of it turning into the movie. [Will I watch the movie? No, I always refer the book to the one on the screen.]
The language and narration is simple.
Overall, this is a good one time read and if you like dark humour, you might like this one.
