A missing Medici princess. A Scottish guard running from his past. A failed kidnapping attempt that will topple thrones.
The youngest daughter in Europe’s richest family, Caterina de’ Medici longs for the power wielded by her brothers. But when an attempt to prove her value goes horribly wrong, Caterina flees from Florence dressed as her maid. And when a Scottish guard saves Caterina’s life, she must decide whether to trust him.
The last thing Scottish guard James Stewart needs is a sharp-tongued, strong-willed Medici princess under his protection. He failed to protect a woman once before and the guilt still haunts him. In spite of his wounds, James knows it is his duty to protect Caterina—and return her to Florence.
Who sent the men that tried to kidnap Caterina and kill James? With enemies on their heels, James and Caterina must work together or lose everything. But can the sheltered patrician’s daughter and the Medici guard learn to trust each other?
Book One of the Stolen Crown Trilogy, a sweeping historical saga on the cost of power.
When I picked this book up I thought it probably wouldn't catch my attention. I love reading about the Medici family and the fight for the crowns of that era, however, this book blew me out of the water. It was a wonderful way to get a peek inside the life of rich families back then and the power they held. The story was truly believable and kept my attention through the entire book. The characters are wonderfully complex and the emotions evoked are natural. I am looking forward to reading the other two books!
Intriguing look at one of my favorite historical characters
This book was a fresh look at Catherine de Medici. She was a fascinating woman who defied the mores of her time and has been remembered through history as a result. But we don't often see much about her youth.
Loved the interplay between her and the hero and her character growth was awesome and believable.
The author takes you on a journey full of action and life lessons. There were times when I felt the dialogue lapsed into a very contemporary atmosphere which slightly deterred my enjoyment of the book. I felt jerked back into the present quite suddenly and had to work back into the past. The plot is solid and character development is fine; I personally think it just needs better editing.
This is a real person who just finished the book. I think u may ENJOY it as much as I did. Ending left me flat but I enjoyed the book very much. Struggling tho to believe a sheltered maiden would b so bold.
Though there are quite a few areas of melodramatic sequences and hard to believe sequences, on the whole, it was not a bad read. Not much distortion of history
