I went on a round of severe acne drugs when I was 19. They helped for a time, but when my skin started getting bad again a few years later I wanted a more natural and holistic approach. I went to see a naturopath and read this book at the same time. This book was common-sensical and insightful. I followed the eating plan and after a short time I didn't miss the foods I was avoiding as I really felt great. (I remember distinctly waking up feeling great without any caffeine while the girls I worked with struggled with mornings even with lots of coffee). It certainly helped my skin and I lost a little weight too though that was never my intention.
I scanned through the book in less than an hour, and picked out ideas that are new to me.
The skin you have today will be totally renewed within two months, because of metabolism.
To be healthy, lower acidity in body, some alkalizing fruits include tomatoes, bananas, avocados, lemon and lime.
Omega-3 keeps skin moist, they come from natural foods but we can also take supplements.
Take flaxseeds (also known as linseeds)
Antibiotics are routinely added to the feed of caged and free-range chickens. They are partly used to prevent infections spreading (as the chickens are often in small, cramped cages or barns) and also to speed up a chickens’s growth.
Eggs from caged hens are often inferior as they have softer shells and paler yolks. Their shells are weaker because indoor-housed chickens fail to get vitamin D from sunshine.. A paler yolk can indicate a poorer B-vitamin content.
A small Japanese village called Yuzurihara = “the village of long life"
The person with strong lungs has soft, lustrous skin and glossy hair. Skin that is dry, dull or rough is a sign of lung imbalance.
Healthy skin starts on the inside. You can't get the true glow of health from any bottle, no matter how expensive. In The 8-Week Healthy Skin Diet, nutritionist Karen Fischer shows you how to modify your diet for your particular skin type or skin affliction in order to eliminate flare-ups and increase your natural healthy glow. She pairs healthy eating with home remedies, fascinating science, exercise tips and lifestyle direction for long-lasting natural beauty.
Fischer seemed to have good advice for each skin disorder she covered, though some of the recipes she included were a bit far out for me. I'm not sure I would want to drink water with chlorophyll, for example, not that I would be able to find anything like that in middle-of-a-cornfield, Indiana. Still, I'm glad I purchased this one for our library's non-fiction collection.
Everything you ever wanted to know about your skin and how to take care of it, internally & externally. Plus 100 recipes for your skin. I'm reading here and everywhere how good dandelion tea is for you. Never tried it...now I will.
As we picked this up for a little under £3, I think the book was worth it. It's given me some tips on controlling my skin {zinc supplements} but the diet seems restrictive.
Has few good takeaways. This book was a little too technical and scientific for information pretty much everyone knows. Self-help books are a guilty pleasure I guess!
