The Rest of Forever

Rate this book
Eric hates going to his parents’ home. Specifically when his abusive father is there to make him feel unwanted. What he doesn’t expect when he walks into his father’s house is to find both his parents, his brother and his sister dead in what appears to be a home invasion. The sole survivor is his brother’s girlfriend.

The only person he can count on is his high school friend Kyron, who happens to be his former crush. Eric is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he might be next victim, and Kyron’s presence is more arousing than comforting.

Kyron is shocked to learn Eric’s family has been murdered. Even more concerning is that Eric could be the next target. As an FBI agent, it’s Kyron’s job to find the killer, but all Kyron is worried about is protecting Eric.

The unresolved sexual tension between them is still there. Kyron is ready to throw his job out the window so he can keep Eric alive—preferably at his side for longer than just this case.

Well, this was bad.

- Boners at inappropriate times (I can hardly imagine you’ll get turned on just after you walked in on your entire family murdered at the dinner table).
- A plot that didn’t make sense at all (really, that’s who did it, and that was the motive??)
- Absolute flimsy police work. And this was supposed to be the FBI? There was no investigating going on at all. Kyron just spend time with his murder witness Eric, that was it.
- Plothole in the form of Kyron telling his boss that the witness did not say a certain thing during the interview and that resulted in them solving the case, when in fact the witness has mentioned that particular thing (I looked it up).

I thought this was promising when it started, but then things just started to go completely off the rails.

I started to have a hard time believing in this story when it is mentioned that apparently the whole town knew Eric was beaten up by his father when he was growing up, but no one actually did anything about it. Eric regularly had broken bones, black eyes, and even ended up in the hospital once. Friends at school, teachers, doctors at the hospital, everyone knew.

And Eric said he stayed in touch with his father because otherwise he wouldn’t see his mother. Who everyone described as a sweet woman. But she did let her husband beat up her kid for years? I could have done without a mother like that. And Eric’s brother and sister still did whatever their father wanted, even though they were all adults? That didn’t make sense at all.

And can I say that this sentence puzzled me:

"She was a very pretty girl, jet-black hair that was too straight for it to be natural.

Hasn’t this author ever met people with straight hair? As if straight hair can’t be natural??

Conclusion: nothing made much sense in this book.

A well done, smooth, slick, murder mystery, that unites old friends with a sexy M/M romance.
Our men haven't seen each other since high school graduation.
Eric, 29, works in Tallahassee, Florida in the music industry.

He takes the two hour drive to his parents house for his beloved Mom's birthday dinner with the family. But when he arrives, there's lots of blood, and he sees his horrible father along with his sweet Mom, brother and sister, all dead in a disastrous scene. Then he slips and the world goes black.

His childhood friend, Kyron, former military, now FBI,

is on the case. They haven't talked in over a decade, but Kyron remembers Eric's father used to beat Eric, so his boss wants to pin it on Eric. Kyron knows the family history first hand, but knows Eric could never kill his Mom or siblings.

We get a terrific mystery, where some are innocent, some look guilty, but which ones are which?

Eric receives a creepy package, and much more. Eric and Kyron are still attracted, but try to keep that under wraps. Our guys do get some hot sexy times.
The ending is a big splash ! Wow !

Our men are wonderful, with sad back stories to help us understand them. Kyron and Eric deserve to have the life they both need. Very exciting.
ENJOY !

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Eric dreads the visit to childhood home. He loved his siblings and mother, his father not so much. The man was a bully that made Eric's life unbelievable but not going wasn't optional. Tuning up late to the house he noticed the door unlocked and music blasting to a scene of horror that unfolds before his eyes. Dead everyone was dead.
Kyron was one of the FBI agents get a call for a murder, one problem his knows the family from his childhood friendship with Eric. Agent Kyron has to put away his desires for Eric until the killers are caught, but can he keep him safe before that happens or he is taken off the case. This friends to lovers romance is filled with dangerous twists, bullying brought to light,  a killer on the loss.

This is a little different from this authors usual books. It has possible triggers in it of physical, verbal and emotional abuse. The story starts out with Eric facing the murders of his family. His father has been an abusive man but the other members of his family are precious to him. Kyron is a friend from childhood who had similar abusive relations with his parents. Leaving to go into the service, he now works for the FBI. He is assigned to Eric to keep him safe. Old feelings are coming to the fore again between the two men. A mystery of why all is family is killed, leads the agents to believe Eric could be in danger too. Who the murderer or murderers are is a total shock. A dark, violent and intense book. Definitely well worth reading.

The Rest of Forever is a gritty crime drama that kept me turning the page to find out whodunnit. Kyron is an FBI agent who is called to investigate the murder of Eric’s family. Both Eric and Kyron grew up together and it seems that hidden feelings and attractions begin to resurface as they attempt to find out who murdered Eric’s family. I am a sucker for thrillers and this story did not disappoint. It left me on the edge of my seat and my heart racing as the story catapulted to an ending I was not expecting. I love when Jerry branches out from the norm and doesn’t stick to the erotica that you read from most authors of the genre. It’s like a breath of fresh air. This is a great mystery story from Jerry Cole. A real whodunnit, that keeps you guessing to the end. The lead up to the reveal keeps you on the edge of your seat. A fast pace story that is packed with passion, murder and an attraction between Eric and Kyron that flows from the pages.

I highly recommend this book it captures the characters well and makes you want to keep reading. I really enjoyed this story and couldn’t put it down.

This book is incredible. It tells about Erics loss of family (parents and siblings) and what it feels like. How do you deal with something like that? Add to the mix an old highschool friend Kyros on whom he had a crush on then and who is now an FBI agent delegated to protect him. The attraction is still there. Do they act on it?
This is a crime story with an unexpected ending. Once you start you can't stop reading. Get the book and see for yourself.

Jerry Cole had written a lot of interesting adventures but usually he is very straightforward in the plot. Not this time! I don't want to spoil it for you, but the plot has a murder investigation with an unexpected twist. Of course, in the meantime Eric and Kyron fell for each other and found their HEA while solving some murders in between amazing hot scenes. Great book!

This book was okay. The story had a lot of potential. The characters, especially the FBI agent, seemed immature for their ages. They had one track minds (sexual) which did not fit at all against the seriousness of such gruesome crimes. The investigation seemed glossed over in favor of sex scenes, and wrapped up in kind of a cliche bow. Combining a good plot/story, strong characters, and romance/erotica can be done well, but this was a bit more of the on the surface fluff variety.

Cute!

It was a cute “who done it ” crime, friends to lovers, second chance romance. I enjoyed the crime aspect to this book, but I wish there was more to the investigating into the crime. I also think it need to be longing, the romance and the crime unfolding felt rushed.

I did find more than a few grammatical errors in the book and they were reported. But all and all this story was suspenceful, romance, sexy and had some funny one liners. I did enjoy and I'm looking forward to reading more from Jerry Cole.
