This is a thematic anthology of stories related to toilets, edited and compiled for teenage readers. Difficult terms are explained in Japanese and the editor has done a marvelous job of putting the stories into context.
Higashi is an anthologist, literary critic and the editor of the first Japanese magazine specializing in Kaidan(Strange supernatural stories.) named Yoo.
In 1982 he founded Japan's only magazine for research into strange and uncanny literature, the Fantastic Literature Magazine (Genso Bungaku) published by Atelier Octa. He served as editor for twenty-one years until the magazine folded in 2003.
This is really a perfect anthology for L2 Japanese readers who are looking for literary works on a particular theme. Many authors are very famous and while I could have read them without the furigana and notes, I really understood the stories much better thanks to the hard work of the editor.
