Emma banked everything she had on saving her family’s farm and after one accident too many she knows she needs a bodyguard. But the minute she meets gorgeous Mac she realises he could do more damage to her heart than strangers could do to her home!
Jan Hambright is a talented author. I enjoyed this book. This story was intense with action that made me hold my breath at times. Mac was hired as a body guard because of all the accident’s that had been happening on the farm. Emma was so close to winning with her colt Navigator. She couldn’t afford for the accidents to take away her dreams of winning the horse race. The accidents became more dangerous, and they had to work together to find out who was behind them. I have to say this was a plot I would have never guessed.
Sample from chapter 4 Pop! The spray of shattering glass riveted his attention on the bullet hole drilled into the siding of the house. The next shot splintered the wood a foot above Emma’s head. “Get down!” He lunged for her, kicking away from the ladder and forcing it in the opposite direction. It scraped down the side of the house and clanked onto the grass. Snagging her with his left arm, he pulled her to the ground in tangle of Christmas lights and cord. Covering her body with his own, he scanned the dense bank of trees and brush a hundred yards from the side of the house, spotting the shapes of someone buried deep in the protective foliage. He drew his weapon, but he didn’t have a clear shot.
This is 10th book in Bodyguard of the month series and I loved it which there haven't been many of these that have gotten a 5 star.
Mac is hired to protect Navagtor's Whim a racing horse and also the owner Emma before the books over. There was so much going on with threats, poisoning, murder amd arson. Mac had his job cut out for him that's for sure.
Emma and Mac discover that the ones renting her stud barn are not who they said they were. Mac and her both nearly get killed more than once with the terrorist attack looming that Mac found out about after the two of them meet a NSA agent after a not so accident happens.
I love action books and this had it for sure. Mac is former Secret Service agent but he can't hear in left ear anymore cause took bullet protecting someone months before this book happened which ties back to what's happening now.
This was mostly just boring. Other than it take place in December it’s not really Christmas themed. The title doesn’t fit either, like what was being counted down?!
I also wasn’t super fond of the stereotypical “terrorist cell”. That plot just didn’t seem to mesh with the rest of the story.
I didn’t dislike the hero or heroine nor did I connect with either of them. I also kept forgetting her father was alive and lived with her.
My biggest issue I think, as a horse person myself, was that they kept referring to the main horse as “the colt”. He’s a two year old race horse, I’ve never heard an owner constantly refer to their horse as “the colt” or “the filly” instead of by its name.
I probably wouldn’t read this author again but the writing wasn’t horrible just boring.
This book was overall a really good book. The biggest thing was, well there were two. One it felt like Emma kept wanting to only get in the bedroom - felt odd is all.
2nd -maybe I missed it, but where were they going to Bomb?
Also ending could of drawn out a touch more, but I might of been more in a hurry to finish - still good storyline
I’m curious about this author's career, I’ve read some of her books and they left a good memory. I think people who love horses will like this story. I was impressed by the way Jan Hambright built the romance between the couple in a smooth but very effective way – simple sentences, no exaggerated drama – but I would like it to be more developed. I also liked the realistic way the hero faced his impairment, accepting it gradually, although with some suffering.
Emma Clareborn has a horse farm and is training a horse named Navigator for the triple crown but someone is trying to keep him from racing so she hires a bodyguard names Mac Titus who was a former Secret Service agent before he got wounded on the job.
